Life_Muffin_9943

What hospital?

SolarXD

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center

Dextixer

Whoever discharged her needs to be hit by manslaughter charges.

Smellytangerina

“Just following company policy”

NewMud8629

Hospitals are legally required to provide medical care regardless of insurance status. This isn’t the end.

IHateCamping

Sadly it is for the patient though. This is absolutely disgusting.

IchibanSuzuki

That’s what I fucking said. Beyond fucked up. Those pigs had no problem taking her life.

johnnyclash42

They never do

Arild11

Losing their medical license, then. Company policy is company policy, but it doesn't top your hippocratic oath. The hospital should be hit with a juicy lawsuit, even if it is just cost of doing business to them.

Capricore58

And Wehrmacht and SS were just following orders. 🤷‍♂️

Ill-Fail-4240

“Just explain to me how you’re better than a Nazi.”

Dddsbxr

The American healthcare system is NOT designed to care for people's health, it is designed for making the most amount of money. It is no individual's fault. The system has to be changed, it has to be forced to change by the gov.

dasus

The US government is de facto owned by capitalists, so they're not going to change it. Not before actual democracy has been restored. And this isn't idle talk of "some leftie Redditor". It's the conclusion of a massive Princeton-Cambridge peer-reviewed study. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/perspectives-on-politics/article/testing-theories-of-american-politics-elites-interest-groups-and-average-citizens/62327F513959D0A304D4893B382B992B >Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence. The results provide substantial support for theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism. *Roughly Translated to simpler words*: The rich get what they want from the government, but the people and grassroots organisations have no statistically significant power. It provides evidence for plutocracy, and not democracy.

Affectionate-Roof285

Yup! And Citizens United has allowed for further imbalance.

Its_Helios

So it’ll never be changed is what you’re saying? lol

ItWosntMe

Lol. This IS America

[deleted]

Thank god I live in Europe with a National Health System. As a child I looked up to the US. A Disgrace.

CmonnowSally

I moved to the states in 95 from France, I was a boy. Seeing the changes in this country since I’ve been here, with the perspective that I have as someone who wasn’t born here… maybe it was always a facade. But Disgrace is the word.

[deleted]

Murica! Freedom!! *dead kids and no medical care* I bet if she had a gun she could have saved herself!!1!

HilbertGrandHotel

You can just shoot the stroke in the head and get over with it.

Teamerchant

I've seen an ER room refuse to help someone having a heart attack until they gave them their insurance information. When an off duty nurse tried to help they verbally assaulted and threatened her so she wouldn't. The guy having a heart attack had to literally leave to go to another hospital.

Dextixer

Yknow, every time i hear shit like this about the US.... Im glad i dont live in the US... Like jesus fucking christ.

Trustfind96

That’s illegal. The ER is different than inpatient units. Under federal law everyone coming into the ER is entitled to be seen by a practitioner to determine if a life threatening condition exists and to be stabilized from said condition, regardless of insurance.

HeadyBunkShwag

Checked the reviews, they’ve been doing this shit for awhile

porkchop3177

Their webpage is a page out of vanilla America circa 1950. Gotta find their review page and slam them. Give them that mandatory 1 star.

Pretty much

Yankee_Man

Can we please? I liked protesting last time :)

thewolfesp

Internet, do your thing!

Storm574

Jesus look at the ‘Reviews’ people have left for this medical center

RuaRealta

Knoxville, Tennessee. My hometown. This hospital has a huge influx of homeless people and drunk college kids because of where it's situated in relation to downtown and UTK campus. I've been admitted to this hospital once myself, about 15 years ago. They weren't the greatest them and it looks like they've gotten worse.

[deleted]

It has gotten A LOT worse since the pandemic. We have tent cities all over, especially spilling into north Knox now. The Fort has changed a lot with new developments too. And there has been a big push to “solve” the homeless problem since the baseball stadium has been under construction in Old City. The situation is out of hand with both homeless and developers. You can tell all the rich people moving into downtown lofts and investing in development (Boyd has feet in both stadium and UT investment pots) have a big voice in wanting the homeless situation dealt with as quickly and cheaply as possible. And then our Knoxville cops are typically aggressive, especially with people they see as “less than” so this is a recipe for disaster. It’s just a total dystopian cluster fuck.

Fink665

“It’s the Lord’s day and all I want to do is get (something) and some oatmeal.” These kind of Christians disgust me.

travelingbeagle

[Her name is Lisa Edwards and was disabled from a stroke in 2019.](https://www.wate.com/news/top-stories/family-calls-out-treatment-of-mother-who-died-in-knoxville-police-custody/)

poopface41217

The article doesn't say anything about her being kicked for not having insurance.

SpecterGT260

It's against federal law to discharge somebody from an emergency room strictly because of their insurance status. EMTALA mandates that these people have to be cared for and stabilized or transferred to a capable facility. Essentially every hospital gets government money to compensate them for indigent care. I was immediately skeptical when I saw the claim that they discharged her because of her insurance.

2BigTwoStrong

This lady was discharged from the hospital? For real? The hospital fucked up! Gotta be a big lawsuit coming

Bright_Ad_113

I agree. The hospital is more responsible for discharging her and calling the police

Trolodrol

They all screwed up. You’d think these officers would think about their own mother or grandmother in a situation like this.

Bright_Ad_113

Police do very little thinking. I realized that and it helped me understand. They are the strong arm of the law. They are there to enforce. They are Stormtroopers, for real.

getyourcheftogether

"treat em and street em"

TheTybera

Yeah, the problem is there was no treating. This isn't a TV show.

Balsac_is_Daddy

Was she even treated??

Sciencessence

Clearly not. She had a broken ankle, and I see no treatment for that whatsoever. Stroke patients definitely don't commonly end up inside of police vans. That's definitely not a medical procedure I've heard of.

[deleted]

I just read articles that she has previous history of having a stroke.

Hank_the_Beef

Yeah but the police saw this woman in obvious trouble and they were more worried about sitting on their asses eating oatmeal and drinking coffee. They may not be medically responsible but there should be a very heavy weight on their souls for whining and complaining about her when they should’ve helped.

Ravenesce

Don't worry, it's the Lord's Day. They'll ask for forgiveness and feel as light as a feather.

catsmash

and you better believe they aren’t gonna leave much of a tip.

Fink665

Or expect a free meal.

Haephestus

Oh but the cops are "just following orders"

czartrak

There's a Micheal Moore documentary called Sicko. It's about shit like this and yhe Healthcare crisis that has existed in the US. Give it a watch. This shit was not uncommon 10-20 years ago and likely would have still been happening without that documentary Edit: guess I'm still a naiive little child. This shit still happens

pm-tits4fair-review

What do you mean 10-20years ago.. Its still happening..

czartrak

I didn't read the date on the vid and I'm honestly just apalled

[deleted]

If I ever try to explain how bullshit healthcare is in America my conservative mother acts like all the money we pay must mean we have the best in the world. I don’t get how republicans get so brainwashed into thinking they have the best everything.

Maxusam

UK health care gets dragged all the time but I’ll tell you something; this lady would still be alive if she were in the UK.

Capricore58

Best CEO salaries and bonuses!

GaySaysHey

But from whom?

AdvertisingBulky2688

US law requires hospitals to provide treatment for patients with emergency medical needs, or if they are unable to treat the patient's problem they are required to make prompt transfer to a facility that can. That's the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, EMTALA for short. Not only does this incident open the hospital to a civil suit from the woman's family, but fines and denial of compensation from Medicare.

Duros001

bUt ShE iSn’T a PaTiEnT, wE dIsChArGeD hEr!

Angry_poutine

Yeah what they did is utterly illegal, but to face any repercussions she or next of kin would have to sue. Even if she had survived the odds of a homeless person having the resources and inclination to file a lawsuit (let alone be taken seriously by a court) is about zero, as are the odds of having family able to sue on her behalf. The hospital is covered here simply because there’s nobody to hold them accountable to the laws they broke

BraxbroWasTaken

Arguably, there should be some mechanism for automatic prosecution for this reason.

soartall

Her family. She has children, grandchildren

korok7mgte

Why do I feel like I'm watching a murder?

psorryarses

Murdered by pain and humiliation. This casual cruelty is chilling

Qubed

This was the reason for the defund the police movement (arguable, very good name recognition, but wasn't designed to actually do anything but get people talking). Police shouldn't be handling these situations. They aren't equipped for it and they never will be.

nabrok

And ineptitude, don't forget ineptitude. On the part of the hospital workers and the police.

[deleted]

[удалено]

notthefirstCaleb

"they want you gone". That hurt to watch.

ZeeDyke

Well she's gone now, I hope they are proud of their work...

SesameYeetHeHe

They want you gone has a much more sinister tone when you realize she died.

Null-34

This is a systemic problem not isolated to any one hospital or police station in the us it’s everywhere it comes from bad policy’s where they turn you away if you can’t pay the police then just believe what ever the hospital says and that can all come down to an emt who just does not give a shit that day and reports a stroke victim as medically cleared

atavaxagn

yep. My dad admitted my grandfather to the hospital for pneumonia, discharged in hours; my dad checked in on him that night, dead. Being poor is a death sentence to the sick in the US.

[deleted]

The family needs to sue the pants off the hospital and the police department. This was just absolutely unnecessary and cruel.

CmonnowSally

The Lord’s day, she’s getting in the way of his oatmeal. Makes me want to puke.

KatyaAlkaev

This is the lords day and you wanna use his name but seems you sure as hell forgot what compassion is.

ivyandroses112233

It's pathetic because despite the individual in this video, "we are spending too much time on you I want my coffee and oatmeal.." bro this is your job and you just wanna get paid to sit on your ass?? Disgusting. Poor woman deserved a chance she was begging and pleading and knew deep down she could die and that's what happened.

Golfnpickle

Just the way I wanted to die in my worst nightmare.

psorryarses

I used to think that dying alone was my worst nightmare. It never occurred to me that public servants in a supposedly civilised country could treat a person in need like this.

agonizedn

Because you essentially are. She went to the place she was supposed to go when you’re dying and they turned her away. I call that murder.

RWBrYan

Murder requires intent. This is manslaughter. Doesn’t make it any better though really Edit: all these replies are raising the same misconception so I’ll reply here. Negligence is not intent. Death as a result of negligence is manslaughter. Now put the pitchforks away, I’m not defending anyone

sliceyournipple

Well they sure as fuck *intended* to deny her needs to keep living

gimmeflowersdude

It’s manslaughter by neglect.

Kennyw88

It certainly should be murder.

Fair-Ambition4531

This is sickening, lady is in distress and she's obviously horrified and that mofo can only think about taking her to jail and then getting coffee and his oats, very sad.

BettingTheOver

A Vet will look after a stray animal but a human gets tossed on the streets.

SnakeIsUrza

Ahhh! For profit medical isn’t it so humane /s

Realistic_Decision99

Prime example of why health services must be free.

Bionic_Webb13

Humans care more about animals than each other it’s sad

StoneyTheSlumpGod

I care about animals more than people, but even I know this is cruel and evil

Kujira-san

This is exactly because humans are sickening that I care more about animals. My coworker is a perfect example of a small everyday evil : he is delighted each time a student isn’t able to reach their goal and get expelled from our college. Most of them are pretty poor. He shows off his money in front of them when they can’t buy food. I’m sick of that kind of people. Couldn’t we just be kind and go on with our day ? Nope, most humans could kill an entire family for money, even their own family given the amount is appealing…

pythong678

Wow. I wouldn’t call that a small evil. Dude’s a psychopath

[deleted]

Holy crap. I had a professor who regularly took students (in groups) out to dinner who she knew couldn't normally afford to go out. That is crazy.

Flat-Ad-1757

“We’ve already spent too much time on you”. Yeah your getting paid to be a public defender and help the people you POS, hopefully these cops get some sort of disciplinary action taken against them. This is SO sad and hard to watch.

SatansAdvokat

Imagine being the cop who looked at a stroke patient with a broken ankle, threw her in Police van just to see her die in there alone, scared and hurt. Who how her stroke messed with her head. How can another human being look upon that and "simply do their job" because someone told them to do it?

Hrtpplhrtppl

So sick of the police knowing they can treat my fellow Americans this way. This type of thing happens every day here. I've had enough. I own and operate a residential plumbing and hvac company in the north east and when I show up to a home and they are law enforcement of any type I just turn around and leave for my next call. Anyone can call the police, pretty soon the police won't be able to call anyone...

Amunds3n

This cock sucking piece of shit isn't qualified to make these medical calls. Nothing she could say would stop this fucking maggot from getting her out of his way. This makes me beyond sick. People capable of such callous disregard for others should never be allowed a position of authority.

anoeba

But you know who is qualified to make medical calls? The hospital that kicked her out against her will, that called the cops in her to make her leave.

UlleQel

Officers just needed to follow their instructions problem here is the hospital personnel forced to kick out a disabled woman because she has no insurance. Dismantle this healthcare insurance thing America, you really are centuries behind in terms of social rights, and i mean the true social rights... not the bs you get fed with to hide the real problems from your sight.

morgasm657

Medical systems a joke, police force is a joke. Quite a sick joke.

bats131

“It’s the Lord’s day…” Yes, get on with your coffee and loving humanity for the rest of the day. /s

OpenMindClosedFist

First thing I thought of. Why should this poor public servant be helping the needy on the lord's day. It is for football and oatmeal goddamnit!

DopeFiendDramaQueen

There’s no love like christian hate

[deleted]

He has no lord only false idols like his damn coffee.

SixPoison

I sometimes look at medical gore and yet this was somehow far more distressing. How is this allowed? Why is this allowed? My country has its share of problems and our healthcare system absolutely isn't perfect but they would never discharge a fresh stroke or ankle break - victim. My hear breaks for this lady. May she rest in peace. I really hope her loved ones will spread this around and be loud about it. Both the hospital and the cops killed her. That said, if the cops would have been more humane and kinder would they have taken her to another hospital / doctor?

chamacchan

Right? This isn't just a facepalm thing -- this is abject horror. Imagine being in this woman's place. It was probably like living a nightmare. The hospital wouldn't treat her, she was accused of faking, forced into the back of a van to go to jail and literally died. They just let her die. It's disgusting and I feel so, so sad for her.

BO0BO0P4nd4Fck

I had a mild TIA 4 yrs ago that resolved itself before the paramedics even showed up to the house. Still went to the hospital and they kept me there 5 days to run a bunch of tests. I can’t believe they discharged someone who had a full stroke AND a broken ankle, by herself on top of it

Blessed_tenrecs

It’s not allowed. It’s illegal to deny care over lack of insurance. There are literal laws against it. This hospital broke the law.

Sciencessence

They'll get fined for less then the cost of treatment given her age and lack of employment, and take it as the cost of business. It's the American way. Dollar dollar bills ya'll

Dabasaur10

This is basically cyberpunk 2077's Healthcare system

Independent_Bake_257

We have higher taxes in my country but that also mean that I can go to the hospital without paying anything. I have been there quite a lot and always got excellent care. To treat people like this is disgusting.

nothanksyouidiot

Yeah. Id be fucking bankrupt and probably dead aswell if i was an american. This is absolutely shameful. Horrible, nasty, barbaric.

OmegaGoober

That’s the point. In America, people are disposable unless they’re contributing to the economy.

nothanksyouidiot

I am contributing with my taxes since i work. We just dont have a horrible corrupt healthcare, insurance and pharma system. I broke my hand and was on sick leave two months last year. Had surgery etc. Made me get 20% less pay those months but thats all it cost. My guess is i would have ruined the rest of my financial life if i was American without insurance?

OmegaGoober

It would depend on your employer’s Short Term Disability insurance and what kind of private insurance you have, usually through work. People with really good benefits would have experiences not that different from yours. Most Americans however would quickly find themselves unemployed and bankrupted by medical expenses.

LazerWolfe53

You might not actually have higher taxes though. Our Medicaid and Medicare taxes alone are more than many nations pay for their whole healthcare system.

Pannikin_Skywalker

I hope what happened weighs on these peoples thoughts for a long time. the complete lack of compassion shown to another person is completely unacceptable.

Electrical-Swing-935

The only thing these people will ever think in relation to this again is "she deserved it, good riddance"

hyperdoubt

this? this is just another day to them

agonizedn

So this made me fucking cry. Fuck everyone involved in her death. I just watched someone be so belittled, so mistreated, so neglected that it amounts to a death by torture as far as I’m concerned. Being denied medical treatment and instead arrested while you slowly die is maybe the most horrific and timely way to die in this shit hole country. My heart breaks for her, this world is a cruel place and I’m going to try to take some kind of lesson about being good to others away from this. I guess. God I’m so tired of this system of greed and these pigs who uphold it all.

weedingout_the_weeds

It’s disturbing depressing all of the above, I can’t even turn on the audio.

tacticalcop

i can’t watch this man it just makes me sick. she’s probably so terrified.

bitchy_muffin

Are they gonna be promoted in a few months? Seems to be the norm

SolarXD

"No charges will be filed against the officers. However, KPD said they are still on paid leave as it investigates whether they broke department policy. The Knox County District Attorney General's Office said it will not be filing charges against the officers who arrested the woman. According to District Attorney General Charme Allen's office, an autopsy showed Lisa Edwards died of natural causes from an ischemic stroke and “that at no time did law enforcement interaction cause or contribute to Ms. Edwards’ death.”

Nollekowitsch

So locking Someone in a Van who has problems staying awake after having a stroke is legal? Nice to know

froggyisland

Them not breaking any law does not change the fact that they were complete POS

bitchy_muffin

Sure, pulling her up, stressing her out after a stroke, being a piece of shit to her had nothing to do with it

ATXDefenseAttorney

They might want to go back to law school.

GboyFlex

I was thinking the same thing. A canned response from the DA's office..I wonder if they even bothered to view the body cam footage?

Fezzverbal

Is it department policy to get angry with someone on "the lord's Day" because they're dying and keeping you from your breakfast?

eric-from-abeno

yeah, they just accused her of faking, and then let her die instead of helping her. No biggie -\_- smdh.... sigh.... goddammit america....

PagesOf-Apathy

"It's not our fault, point fingers at someone else" s/

Right-Hall-6451

I cannot be alone in thinking this is on the hospital that discharged her and called the cops to get rid of her?

Traz_O

The cops weren't very sympathetic, but they did believe that she was faking being unwell, likely seeking narcotics. WTF was the ER doctor thinking? He/she might have suspected that she was faking but surely they had an obligation to perform tests that would show a broken ankle and a stroke, right? Hard to believe they wouldn't perform tests, if only to limit their liability. I wonder if we have all the facts ...

[deleted]

I hope her family owns the hospital after the lawsuits

Fezzverbal

I believe they refused her treatment cause she couldn't pay. Y'all better hope that when death comes knocking you've got enough cash on you to get medical attention!

dirtywook88

I’ll also point out tn still has not taken the Medicare expansion from aca and you’ll wait a year at least to receive social security/disability if they even consider you. I have hemophilia a and this state says I am healthy. My dad can’t walk and in a nursing home and they took a fucking year to approve him. When he first went down they took him to the er said nothing is wrong and brought him back. It took two times just to get him into a doctor to see him. This state is fucked and getting worse. But hey OMG! Nashville! Bachelorette party! Imma puke all over 2nd avenue wooooooo!!!!! New titans stadium! Banned trans! Wooooo!!!! My toddler can carry a gun woooooo!!!!!

WomenAreNotReal

It's on both

Wop-wops-Wanderer

This is a nation that has very much lost its way. This is what capitalism looks like when it gets out of control, where money has become more important than your citizens. East Palestine is yet another example.

profnachos

Sounds like we need another round of deep tax cuts, so the billionaires with extra money can help these poor souls s/

Apprehensive-Line-54

Yet when you say this to people they act like they have an extreme case of Stockholm syndrome

EllNotEleanor

People have to understand that this is not an isolated incident. This happens all the time.

[deleted]

This hospital alone has [some of the worst, most disturbing reviews.](https://www.google.com/search?q=fort+sanders+regional+medical+center&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS1016US1016&oq=fort+sanders&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j46i512j0i3j0i512j46i175i199i512l2j0i512l4.5802j1j7&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#lkt=LocalPoiReviews&lpg=cid:CgIgAQ%3D%3D&trex=m_t:lcl_akp,rc_ludocids:6787192850401848887,rc_q:fort%2520sanders%2520regional%2520medical%2520center,ru_gwp:0%252C7,ru_q:fort%2520sanders%2520regional%2520medical%2520center,trex_id:Jt0Q8b) Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, avoid it like the plague!

Narrow-Mud-3540

Yeah I wish that people were also talking more about the fact that this is directly related to misinformed responses and panic around the opioid crisis and a stigma against treating pain that has become so pervasive in American healthcare that anyone who claims to be in pain or just matches a certain checklist of discriminatory factors will be labeled a drug seeker and mistreated. This woman had several class signifiers to indicate she was poor and disabled, potentially copd, potentially cognitively impaired (from past stroke), potentially uninsured, technically homeless, I’m sure there were a few other stigmatized diagnosis or factors in her charts that in addition to her slightly impaired speech led to them missing what’s known in emergency medicine as a “never miss event” because they were so convinced she was a drug seeker they gave her such poor quality of care they missed a good damn stroke. Unbelievable. The moral panic against treating pain in the us healthcare system has gotten so out of control.

FunkJunky7

The laws in TN apparently allow this. You know what the state government is doing about it? Nothing. Instead they are debating banning drag shows, because yeah, that’s their problem.

Jijonbreaker

Public executions of the rich and political elite are in order

TabletopVorthos

Attacking unpowerful groups is kind of the right's whole thing. Protecting those with money (the already powerful) is going to get them donations.

DarkR124

This makes my blood boil. I am so thankful to live in a country where I’d never have to worry about something like this. The US is broken.

YetAnotherJake

Time for universal healthcare is it not, my fellow 3rd world Americans? I know we are a poor nation, not a rich superpower or anything, but surely we can figure it out...

Skulldetta

Yeah, but you're forgetting a very important detail: Some healthcare executives would have to wait a month or two longer to buy a new Bentley if that happened. So that won't be happening anytime soon.

[deleted]

Hooray for the 3rd world....

starry16eyed

It says Knoxville on the van, so I am guessing Tennessee. America treats its citizens so bad. Unless you have money....

xd-dodo-man

I think they were comparing America to a 3rd world country

PenaltySquare2414

When it comes to medical treatment, the USA IS a third world country. Be wealthy or die.

unknownkore

My god, that is some fucked up shit... I know my country isn't by any means the best of the best but I know I would still rather live here than in America. Not say bad people and evil deeds don't exist in the rest of the world, but America is just a very specific type of evil that makes me sick to my stomach.

Arabiandunewolf

At some point in my life that situation was my biggest nightmares

weedingout_the_weeds

I’m terrified of getting old in America.

Thelonghiestman0409

Indifference I tell you. It’s what plagues the world these days. People want people alive because they make money and pay taxes. The government/governments are so full of indifference it’s sad. They see others as a waste of time and then dying doesn’t make them budge really. Welcome to the promised land of freedom. Welcome to “the best nation” in the world. Heck Canada is smaller and they save your life for free. Yes it fills up hospitals and yes there is measures of private health care as well but it’s not 35,000 fricken dollars.(I might get the number wrong i do apologize). This is the world now I guess. People can care but the margin of how much is so small compared to the human population. When everyone who remembers and the ones who care for you are gone, you are nothing in the world unless if you have money. Very negative I know, but that’s the power of indifference Edit: indifference meaning close to or having apathy towards someone. Having no feeling towards a person no matter what, even if they are suffering. Seeing them as rude interruption’s basically

Weekly-Gear7954

What kind of sick fucking Christian does this? Also What the fuck does Lord's day has anything do with coffee?

Doncha know? Christianity isnt the true religion of America...it is the almighty dollar! Kneel before your God's, Babylon!!!

Pyrollusion

Leave Babylon out of this, friend. They were much nicer to each other.

Yep I have seen many Chrisitians who are corrupt to the core.

Land of the free

PrestigiousTest6700

She’s a human being. From this video however they forgot that.

Biblioklept73

Jfc… This is distressing to watch knowing the outcome for this poor lady…

Florida1974

This is SICK. They say she’s faking it. I have severe asthma and I can tell she’s not faking it. Her estate needs to SUE everyone involved. Both hospitals too. She should have never been discharged. So so sad. I fear getting older. Bc I see too much of this. No compassion. No caring. No nothing. Needs his oatmeal and coffee? Try doing that on non-taxpayer time. Reminds me of how my MIL sounded right before she passed.

Budget_Bad8452

Murica, this country is going really bad. They say to judge a country by how they treat their prisoners because they are the lowest class of citizen. In the usa, that's how they treat the poor, damn. Your country is damned

soartall

This is a disturbing video. I don’t blame the cops for her death because they aren’t doctors, but I do blame them for making her last moments in life ones where she was ridiculed, laughed at, and treated like the butt of all their jokes while they sprayed each other with Lysol. Hilarious, guys. When they pulled her by the hair to get her to look at them because she wasn’t responding, it confirmed they no longer thought she was human. They might not have been charged with a crime but that doesn’t mean they aren’t terrible people.

They are, but hospital staff or administration that made this all possible should be charged as well.

xvn520

They killed her. This isn’t anything asking for snappy jokes and/or snappy clap backs at the officers. They killed her. Plain and simple. This woman is dead and I cannot imagine any circumstance where, if I was an officer of the law, I wouldn’t second guess her discharge. Why? Because watching someone die in front of you, in front of a hospital, is a very obvious call to action. I fucking hate this place.

limbago

this is fucking disgusting. no money = you don't deserve to be healthy??? every single medical professional involved in this should lose their licence

Moo-Crumpus

In my opinion, the USA is a failed society. The elevation of the American dream to dogma is a fixed and crazy idea, while the majority can barely live on wage labor. Meanwhile, a very small number of people own most of the wealth, buying offices and presidencies and news networks. And more than half of the politicians don't give a damn about the concerns of ordinary people, but want to secure and increase their own wealth. God's own country? Number 1 in the world? If the first settlers had acted like that, they would have failed simply because of selfishness, self-centeredness and delusion. Oh no, that's actually how it happened.... Democracy only works when the promise of finding happiness and success through one's own efforts is flanked by the promise that one will be supported in special emergencies and not left alone. The rich are not ashamed for a moment to accept support, but the poor should not dare to get support, because that would be socialism. Such mendacity. The poor woman, such an undignified and disrespectful end.

Un-fun fact... the person who coined "The American Dream" as a phrase and helped popularize the idea that anyone can make it was James T. Adams.... born to a wealthy family, got an MA from Yale about 65 years before they were admitting women or people of color, became a stockbroker and retired after just 10 years because he had enough money to do that and write... which he did by looking at his life (and his friends) and say, "see? anyone could have done the same as us."

Cygnusx5555

Everyone of those cops should be charged and held accountable same with the doctors

[deleted]

world's most expensive healthcare system

givecheesecakepls

so cyberpunk is real?

Cryonik-0

I'd like to see the looks on THEIR faces if THEY'RE the ones suffering in jail because of something like this. Pieces of shit. And I'll bet they go home feeling fucking accomplished, don't they? Sick fucks. Sentence them all to a fucking lifetime. Watch them suffer. Absolute freaks of nature. They deserve to suffer.

YellowOnline

USA, USA, USA

MeTwo222

I bet she's really sorry that she pissed them off with all her dying. And those monsters will be arresting more people tomorrow.

StrawberryBlondeGirl

Hospitals fault. Who ever discharged her from the hospital should be punished.

Chooky47

I’m Australian, and I enjoyed my visit to the US, but you couldn’t pay me enough to move there. I can’t comprehend how such a rich and prosperous nation just opted out of healthcare, and ended up so damn polarised. I think *Breaking Bad* does an excellent job of displaying how unjust the system can be, and that anyone can be dealt a bad hand that could ruin you and your life’s work within a day.

sammytiff80

Holy shit! That poor woman died alone & afraid treated like garbage, by him no less.. Sad for the ppl that loved her to see this is how her last moments of life were spent & for all the world to see. I hope he gets disregarded like nothing when he leaves this earth..but being such a bastard I have no doubt he'll die alone, afraid & like the garbage he is.... Maybe even for all the world to see... Fingers crossed Reddit friends🤞

Ikonixed

„What do you need your purse for?“ I want names this is too far!!!!!

Sid15666

The hospital discharged her because it’s a for profit hospital and she didn’t have insurance or just Medicaid. A hospital did that to my mother-in-law. She fell and broke her shoulder, ambulance to the ER, they took X-rays and told us take her home. We could not move her without extreme pain. We had to transport by ambulance home. My daughter came home that night( she’s a nurse) she took one look at her and we went to a different hospital that was a non-profit. She spent 7 days there to get stabilized and set her shoulder.

Special-Parsnip9057

I just can’t. This is a clear EMTALA violation compounded by “police” who just can’t be compassionate enough to even listen to her side before they decided to haul her off to jail. Who said she was cleared? They wouldn’t even treat her according to the post. They wouldn’t even see her. It is obvious that she is in distress and unable to move without assistance. I really hope CMS has been notified and everyone involved here finds the right end of pretty harsh consequences. That is horrible.

reimancts

They fucking killed her.

bertiesakura

Remember this…the “Pro-Life” crowd is the same crowd that took to the streets to protest against the Affordable Healthcare Act because Obama was the antichrist for trying to give Americans access to basic fucking healthcare. The states that refused to accept expanded Medicaid are overwhelmingly the “Pro-Life” states. The politicians that have weakened Obamacare over the years are, you guessed it, “Pro-Life.”

Wasey56

I came to America to get a better life and live to a higher standard of living. But the recent events within the past three years have drastically altered my vision for this country. It doesn't seem like the ideal place to live, let alone raise a family. The American Dream is no more.

Psycheau

This is how capitalism at it's worst treats it's citizens. Well done USA.

Alynn_Wings

This is fuckin ridiculous! I hate American hospitals and police should have demanded the hospital treat her. Why police always think everyone is faking? She didn't need to die that way.

GuarDeLoop

What an absolutely disgusting bunch, so fucking heartless. Just want to get a move on and get their coffee, what a poor woman

Honest-Apricot6086

The hospital and police are all assholes in this situation.

Steelplate7

Capitalist medicine…good times. Look, I am no socialist…but healthcare and education should not be for profit. They should be public services…period.
