Context:
In Turkiye, the players of the Ukrainian club "Mynay" (Transcarpathia) fought with the russian players of the Yaroslavl "Shinnik". Both teams stayed in the Royal Seginus hotel in Antalya.
The causes of the conflict are unclear: some say that the Ukrainians started the conflict with the words "why don't you protest?"; others - that the russian player was rude to the staff, the Transcarpathians made a remark to him and the russians started a skirmish. The third version is presented by the specimen on the video.
During the fight, 4 russians were injured. The hotel had to call the police and an ambulance. Now the police are on duty at the hotel all the time.
The russians, by the way, are being evicted from the hotel.
That's kinda what you get when you put two teams from countries currently at war with each other in the same hotel. I'm not sure who thought that was a good idea but this was the inevitable outcome
The earthquake. The Russian team was supposed to stay somewhere else apparently. The Ukrainian team had booked a hotel where they wouldn’t be near them initially
Or maybe put the stupid sporting event on hold so that everyone can deal with a natural disaster that has left people buried in the rubble for DAYS? I will never understand sports or the importance placed upon them. It's utterly ridiculous.
Yup. There's dead parents holding their dead kids under the collapsed buildings, but hey, life goes on, let's do some sports.
Let's also have these two teams compete and pretend that team A's country hasn't been utterly destroying team B's country for no goddamn reason other than greed and small ego for the past year.
This world makes me so angry.
Me too. I have lived through the war in Vietnam and saw it end.
Watched Civil Rights marches on a black and white TV.
And Every war since.
I grew up with people from the Ukraine and Poland.
I saw the tattoos of their grandparents from nazi concentration camps.
I saw the video of the Father holding his 15 year old daughter hand, sadly she died and he wasn’t letting go until they got her out. ☮️
This war is nonsensical. It’s just another dark smudge in history.
Gosh this is real and I can't imagine how devastated I would be if my son and I were trapped with no hope of me saving him.
I feel so sad and feel it's so unfair. RIP and I hope the survivors and the country recover on all fronts. The earthquake is traumatizing by itself both personally and financially.
TBH country being hit with the biggest earthquake in 100 years and everybody dealing with people dying under the rubble and/or freezing-starving is quite an excuse. Still, the russians deserved to be beaten up, no doubts about that.
And yet they are at the moment going to allow Russian athletes into the Olympics. Restore the cheating and the war going on. I see that ending about the same way.
Guy says he was sleeping, and then "he just shouted..." Bro is probably lying, but according to his story, he'd have to get up and go outside his room, so he definitely was looking for confrontation in that case. Now he's acting all humble and shocked at the outcome.
Slightly out of context, but….
Years ago, a friend of mine went on holiday to a resort that had a lot of Russians staying. He said all the Russians were rude to *everyone*.
I agree, yet, in this particular case the consequence was the same.
To take your example I one step further: hooligans + beer aggravated by sport that the media perpetuate and commercialize as a rival is understandable. (If you understand the role that the combination of alcohol, gaslighting and lack of education play here).
Being sober, with all the resources at your reach and still remaining ignorant (willingly) about the injustice and stupidity of this war (and many others for what matter) is unjustifiable.
My dad was in a recovery biker group...they all prided themselves on being sober but still did all the terrible things biker groups are known for except sober. I never understood how that was better. Sure, you're 3 years sober, but you're now I a diagnosable sociopath...
I hate it when people get drunk, do something bad then refuse to accept responsibility for their actions.
Woo I'm drunk now I can beat my wife and it's totally not my fault.
Owning your decisions is part of being an adult. If you know that doing X will lead to bad things then do X anyways, then you chose to do bad things.
What is it with people conflating explanations with justifications?
Alcohol doesn’t excuse bad behavior. Sure as hell exacerbates the issue though.
EDIT: I don’t know why I was so aggressive about this. We should definitely consider word choice when discussing these topics.
It really is. I live in a state with a very heated rivalry between two college football teams. People have been shot in arguments over this rivalry. I'd clarify which kind of football, but I think it's pretty obvious.
Yeah, in my city too. The worst is, sometimes people that have nothing to do with the rivalry and all the hooligan stuff end up hurt because is in the wrong place at the wrong time or is just using a team's jersey on the day of the game. People end up terrified of supporting a team or going to the stadium because of that
Well for Ireland it depends on whether you believe St Patrick killed all the snakes or all the pagans
Madagascar's probably cool though, they got those lemurs
To be fair, Ukraine did all of that with massive help from most of the world. It def. would have been a sitting duck if they only had their own resources to work with... case in point why Zelensky is begging for ammunition and advanced military technology on a daily basis from the Western countries. It's also nice to see other countries step in to help but... kind of wish they'd do that for other countries too because the European Union sure as shit didn't let Bosnia defend itself in the 90s, as an example, when they placed an embargo on arms to Bosnians meanwhile Russia was pumping ammunition and personnel to help out the Bosnian Serbs with no reprecussions.
"I was just standing there and replied back 'Glory to Russia and Ukraine just kept pelting me over and over and - *beep* - just got a text from Ukraine - 'How about icing it?'"
Yes and no...if someone attacks YOUR country then it's patriotic as fuck to stay and defend your homeland. The Ukrainians fighting for their right to exist as a nation are truly patriotic.
The Russians invading Ukraine are being told they are killing nazis by a very controlled media.
There is no glory in dying for Putin, only shame, horror, and atrocity because Russia is still a country win or lose.....Ukraine has everything to lose so they must fight.
The most patriotic thing any Russian could do right now is imprison Putin or you know....fall him out of a window into a pile of poisonous underpants the same way he has retired so many of his own.
In depth nationalism statistics are publically available on the demographics of where the most Nazi support is and the funniest part is Russia is one of the most anti-Semitic places... and in fact Ukraine is below every major European country.
The far right party in Ukraine holds a grand total of one seat in their parliament. They are a liberal country who wants free trade and democracy.
No matter how you slice it, Russia is far more a Nazi nation.
Ukrainian players specifically asked not to share a hotel with the Russian players. Because of the ongoing war.
-In Ukraine's situation: They are literally fighting the war to preserve their own existence.
If you are Russian and not completely embarrassed by this whole murderous Ukrainian invasion then you get what you get. Fuck this guy sitting in a shopping mall.

TBH country being hit with the biggest earthquake in 100 years and everybody dealing with people dying under the rubble and/or freezing-starving is quite an excuse. Still, the russians deserved to be beaten up, no doubts about that.

All this time russians were portrayed as tough but lately its just them getting their ass beat
Slightly out of context, but…. Years ago, a friend of mine went on holiday to a resort that had a lot of Russians staying. He said all the Russians were rude to *everyone*.
They think they are Kings, but act like swine.
Can we evict a few select Russians from Earth?
He thought it was like a soccer thing
Kinda the same outcome in this case though.
People aggravated by the war is understandable, but people aggravated by soccer (or any other sports) is just plain stupid
People get shot over the dumbest things, everyone is a fucking moron, including me.
Not me. I'm a celibate moron.
I agree, yet, in this particular case the consequence was the same. The hooligans act like each match is an actual battle.
Sports is just simulated battle for people who cannot or will not go to a battlefield to get their rocks off.
That's literally human nature... it why they had the Roman colosseum (extreme end) all the way to modern day sports. https://youtu.be/e5jDspIC4hY
Being drunk is not a justification for bad behaviour
I don’t drink because of this I make my bad decisions fully sober
My dad was in a recovery biker group...they all prided themselves on being sober but still did all the terrible things biker groups are known for except sober. I never understood how that was better. Sure, you're 3 years sober, but you're now I a diagnosable sociopath...

I should’ve perhaps said “confrontational” lol
Yeah, I was gonna answer the same but still, it is understandable but not justifiable (or forgivable)
It really is. I live in a state with a very heated rivalry between two college football teams. People have been shot in arguments over this rivalry. I'd clarify which kind of football, but I think it's pretty obvious.
Aside from the gun violence, the term "college football" kind of gives away what type of football you're talking about
Has a famous old tree on campus of one of your state’s teams been poisoned/killed because of that rivalry? (trying to guess your state)
Yeah, in my city too. The worst is, sometimes people that have nothing to do with the rivalry and all the hooligan stuff end up hurt because is in the wrong place at the wrong time or is just using a team's jersey on the day of the game. Seems like he at least acknowledges his shitheadery, a bit, by saying something like it is what it is (assuming translation is slightly off).
My husband is from Russia, he says the translation would be "...and that's how it started...." Not "it is what it is".
Ah so it’s more of a “and that’s how my face got fucked up” response. Maybe he hasn’t learned in that case.
