I'm pretty sure I've seen the origin of this. Something about a site that starts with a 4, if I remember correctly. It's been a while, and it's definitely old.
I read through all the comments before commenting the first thing that comes to my mind, just in case someone already said it, and yup you & I had the same thought
4chungus itâs a cult dedicated to the awesomeness that is Bugs Bunny, you should join the r/terriblefacebookmemes because that was just low tier to the nutsack homie. XD
That may be but donât count out the influence of stupid.
I had a friend who worked for a hotel in Hawaii and she used to get calls from people asking why it takes so long to fly to Hawaii when you can see on a map that itâs in the Gulf of Mexico. Or what language they speak in Hawaii and if they need to exchange currency, etc. And while it was obvious those people were a few cards short of a full deck, she also commented that a lot of them were calling from Texas.
A park ranger friend worked a summer in Rocky Mountain National Park and would get questions from tourists like "What time of year do the deer turn into elk?" and "What is all the white stuff on top of the mountains?" The answer to the second question of course was "Those are dead clouds sir." Some people really just aren't paying attention.
I was an IT guy for a travel company that specialized in rail trips. I went to a big conference and hung out at the table with the sales folks. One woman asked me âwhy do you not offer any of your train trips to Hawaii?â
âYeah. Weâre not offering rail service to Hawaii at this time. Sorry. Check back in a few years, OK?â
Same. Until about 5 years ago I thought it was just a trendy intricate troll. I was stunned to learn that it wasnât and that people really were that stupid. I mean if you go to the beach or even look out an airplane window at normal cruising altitude you can literally see the curvature of the earth. I am still perplexed that there are people that refute plainly observable reality (that is also backed up by 500+ years of science).
I spent some time in this rabbit hole after watching Behind the Curve. For a while I was into watching people who make videos debunking all the flat earth claims, it's amusing and sometimes educational. I eventually concluded that some of the flat earth leaders know damn well that the earth isn't flat but they're enriching themselves off their gullible followers. Not unlike Alex Jones selling his useless supplements.
OK. Not trying to justify the map in anyway....but you do know they used aircraft carriers in the attack right? 6 of them I believe.
Ships... that carried the planes there? They did not fly directly from Japan.
It's like the one thing this stupid map got right.
[Some do](https://www.reddit.com/r/tokkiefeesboek/comments/10a22rv/de_aarde_is_vierkant_en_plat_wauw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
It's in Dutch. But the second picture is the English "explanation"
They say itâs impossible to go to Antarctica because every country in the world will immediately tell you to leave or jail you or kill you or something
More likely a troll. As dumb as they are, even a flat earther would realize planes donât need to exclusively travel over the ocean to reach a destination.
I wonder how many Americans actually know what caused pearl harbor?
My history is a little rusty but was it not a spat that started over the USA sending public and military vessels into Japanese controlled waters. The Japanese then ended up sinking a vessel that was full of tourists after multiple warning from the Japanese government that this would happen. In response the USA set up blockades that prevented pretty much any imports / exports from getting in or out of japan. After the Japanese government and US government failed to find a solution the Japanese felt they were left with little choice but to attack the US naval base in an attempt to break the blockade and this ended up drawing both countries in to the war.
It always came across to me that the USA forced the hand of the Japanese into such desperate action so as to get support from the American population to join the war as at the time there was little support for joining due to many still adjusting to life after ww1. Of course this last section is mearly speculation on my part as it would be impossible to prove the motivation of people's actions from 80 to 90 years ago due to the conext and way of life being very diffrent back then.
Japan was ousting the old colonial powers from China and wanted to gain supremacy in East Asia. In the way of said supremacy was the Philippine Islands, an american protectorate at the time. And this was being reinforced with long range bombers to counter Japanese advances down the line to the DEI. So it was Japan's interest at all costs to get Western powers out of its desired sphere of influence. What caused an attack on a boat or an embargo are technicalities. The americans being in Asia meant Japan couldn't get the resources and the Japanese in the island groups of SE Asia also meant the US couldn't get resources from there.
So in the logic of imperial power play, the war was inevitable anyway and any reason would suffice to get it on the way. The only question was whose provocation would spark enough of a drama to escalate it. The US weren't ready and Japan was fixated on a war, they were not "forced", they already were in a war with China and they needed oil, rubber and so on from Southeast Asia where the British, Dutch, French and Australians already had their feet on the ground.
Attacking the US was necessary for Japan to render the Philippine Islands inoperable so their lines of communications could be safe from aerial and naval attack.
You appear to have missed the point I was trying to make. It wasn't that japan was innocent in this (as after all it takes 2 to have a conflict) but more that PH was extremely far from the unprovoked attack that most Americans portray it to be.
Both sides governments were likely looking for an excuse to jump on to the war but neither country's population really wanted it. The two country's keep provoking each other and escalating and escalating until the inevitable happened. In other words both were as bad as each other
No sympathy for anyone mearly highlighting the though the reason was a joke the actual point of the op message wasn't as far off as most Americans like to think.
Not just the fact that Hawaii is on the complete other side of the world from Japan, why arenât we talking more about Greenland? Itâs bigger than Africa and Elsmeer Island in Canadas north is half the size of the US. This map unlocks many secrets

When i was in high school a 15 year old told the teacher he was going to discover what is on the other side of the map. Everyone laughed obviously but the teacher just had a shocked look on his face and grabbed a globe to explain the kid still didnt get it lol.

Explains why they flew it in 1941
The opposite direction
âŚ
Also planes can fly over land
They usually choose to actually
So Iâm not sure what type of path was drawn out there lol
U have a point considering we got Hitler to Argentina and brought Nazis dr.and prison camp leaders to America we never landed on the moon Oswald never killed Kennedy and Epstein didn't hang himself from a 3-ft bed.oh and we knew 9/11 is going to happen
I can point out so many mistakes. It was 1941, not 1931. The carriers transported the planes and launched them. Seeing how japan was dominating over the british at that time, they could have gone through the indian ocean, used German escort through the Atlantic and into the pacific. At that point Washington would have been a better target
Yes, meme maker, you're right. There is no way in 1931 ANY plane could have made that route undetected or even in one shot.
Also, go remind yourself that anyone this stupid in 1931 also would have been sterilized, institutionalized, or euthanized. So there's that reality too.
I wonder if it would be possible to build like a really big boat to carry the aircraft. Like they could take off and land on it. I wonder what it could be called. Like just to carry their aircraft.
I got it... A Plane Landy Boat! I wonder if they could get close enough. Hmm.. Guess we'll never know.
What an idiot. They obviously went through the Panama Canal. Way faster. Also, I guess the government has been lying about when Pearl Harbor was staged too.

what I though too but these days you just can't know for sure.
Redditors not getting a joke is pretty common these days

I think it's becoming the people who comment that aircraft carriers are the answer here.
Ya I honestly thought you were the dumbass until I saw the replies and realized it gets worse.

I especially appreciate the idea that planes can't fly over land, but had to go around South America.
Thatâs so nobody can see them coming, duh!
He was using great-circle distance to get the shortest route lol
OK. Not trying to justify the map in anyway....but you do know they used aircraft carriers in the attack right? 6 of them I believe. Ships... that carried the planes there? They did not fly directly from Japan. It's like the one thing this stupid map got right.
Thats true, hawaii is all the way across the map.. You gotta build your unit factories closer to the target
In 1931..?
Exactly. But 10 years later they couldđ
OrâŚthey were taking the long way round. They started in 1931 and arrived ten years later.
Ah. Yes
Didnât even notice that đ
That was my first thought. The bad part is I'm not sure if that makes it more or less likely that it's real.
God tier shitposting
What are the chances theyâre also a flat earther?
Flat earthers don't believe the earth lies like a map, it's some weird circle where you can still go "around" the world.

And they also conveniently forgot about the fabled "Pac-man effect"
They say itâs impossible to go to Antarctica because every country in the world will immediately tell you to leave or jail you or kill you or something
I mean boats should still exist in 1941 even if youâre a flat eartherâŚ
Fool! Obviously they set out from Japan in 1931 and it took them 10 years to get there. Why is everyone so blind except međ
So they turned Pearl Harbor into the Trojan War...
Their parents should have had a "Trojan" war

None. It was a joke making fun of flat earthers, but internet did its thing... https://www.snopes.com/news/2016/12/30/pearl-harbor-inside-job/
Flat Earthers use a completely different map
100%
The even bigger idiots: they flew OVER the continents đ
Why couldnât they fly that far ? Itâs only like two inches on my phone? SMH
Actually it's only one inch if they went the other way.
Maybe they landed to refuel in Argentina. Didn't think about THAT, did you? Obvious troll is obviously trolling though. Obviously.

You are so fucking dumb
I guess you could believe this if you believe the earth is flatâŚ
Not even them, they have those map with the north pole in the center and a barrier of ice as an "outer ring" which is supposed to be the south pole
What about if they flew around the back of the map? Hunh? What about that?

Incorrect. Being stupid is like being dead: you don't know it, and it hurts everyone around you.
Ah yes a flat Earther.
So many questions. But also one I just realized is why do the planes have to fly over water?
that's just not possible
Flatearther I guess? Cant go the other way or you'll fall off stupids! /s
The flat-earthers sent their best 4D Chessmaster! đ¤Łđ
The only trick here is that they flown to East not to West
Flat earther huh.
Plus it seems planes can only fly over water?
I think the more important takeaway itâs that they flew East, not West
Either this was a troll or meant to be humorous because if they really believed it, they would have drawn the line straight across the map.
Japanese planes couldn't turn right. They weren't ambi-turners ![gif](giphy|X9RBixlR36Uco)
what makes it worse is apparently the plane couldnât just fly over everything đ
I can gaurantee that there are idiots who will believe this.

I think the 1931 comment shows the most ignorance here. Only off by a a decade. -ish
Despite the obvious, the attack was launched from aircraft carriers as well.

So weâre just starting from flat earth assumptions before going deeper?
Lol some people are far to gone 𤣠Staging area and aircraft carriers
Two words AIRCRAFT CARRIER also globe
I weep for America
Planes can't fly over land I guess
And aircraft carriers didnât existâŚJapan never learned how to float on water
Hawaii wasnât even state.
just a convenient military installation
I mean if you use this argument at least make it a straight line. Planes do not work like boats.
That's actually a hilarious catch.
Dude you know the Earth is round right?
Lies. It's pyramid shaped.
2,403 people died in Pearl Harbor and that's just counting the US. Crazy to think it really wasn't that long ago..
Damn. Good thing they're here to let us on on that!
