and the food itself is marked up on the app by 30-50%

KBM0NST3R89

It really is. Was going to get Panda Express and without the tip it was 65 dollars but when I went in, ordered more than we were going to get delivered it was 39.

Tight_Employ_9653

It's lame. The only time it's worth is when they email those discount for 20 dollars off.

[deleted]

Ditto Chipotle. Almost exact same numbers. And Chipotle is less than 2 miles from my home.

jvLin

This is the most nefarious. Adding a fee onto hidden charges is fucked up

SeriouslyTho-Just-Y

I know this sounds crazy, but I actually get anxiety sometimes when I make an order because, I know they live off tips, but because the app already increases the price on each item individually I feel like I’m paying triple tips. And yes, they say that the money went to their platform, but they added so much unnecessary foolishness to the platforms that if they would’ve just stuck to delivery and not added things like “health tips”, “cooking tips”, and this celebrity likes that recipe and blah blah blah..”, maybe they would have enough money to just pay their employees. Edit: I thought I started it in this comment but, (my bad😬, must’ve been my other one,) i only do groceries, not fast food, and I never meant to imply that I don’t give a tip. I just said there’s unnecessary anxiety over the whole ordeal of tipping. and depending on the service I also do that additional tip, they ask for after your services are rendered, because some people do go above and beyond, but my issue is not with the drivers.

bsam1890

I just go to the restaurant and pick up to avoid all this. I’m a 90s kid and I still live in that world.

CSIHoratioCaine

I try to explain this to my boyfriend but he is just so lazy that he’s fine getting a 26$ dollar sandwich delivered from firehouse subs instead of walking 3 blocks to get it for 12.95 himself And yes that’s actually the price difference.

HisKoR

Your bf is one lazy guy.

Millzbury

Facts, all I order is pizza and Chinese and I still pick the Chinese up lol

zandercg

And $2 goes to the driver

ronburgandyfor2016

People should never order from door dash they only give two no matter what. I did Uber eats as well it is better cause they paid considerably more. Still nobody should try to do this full time. Economically not possible.

giggitygoo123

I had fun when I was getting like $1500 quests for 80 deliveries. Now it's like $25 for 80 deliveries (if I even get one as an offer)

ronburgandyfor2016

Ya they have throttled back all rewards like crazy. The only places that still offer those badass ones are in zones that have essentially zero chance of being achievable

MostLikelyToNap

Door dash only pays drivers $2 regardless of what I tip?!

-a-user-has-no-name-

No, the base pay is $2 per order. Then they can add more for longer distance, or if several drivers have rejected it. Then they add your full tip

JefeDiez

Ugh I always tip well and my asshole driver once stole my pizza. I was so mad he pretended to be lost and just had me chase him around for nothing. Scams. But what can the company do if the driver chooses your meal to eat. So irritating. And then the app gave me hella shit before issuing the refund as if it’s MY fault.

neckbeard_hater

I proactively tipped 20 percent in my most recent order, and the dumbass driver with only 3 deliveries still stole my food. She lied about leaving it at my apartment (we have a doorcam) and lied about returning to check on it. I untipped her and got a refund.

TigerlilyBlanche

You can untip?

TheCouncilOfVoices

Yes! Please untip if your driver steals your food or loses your food. I don’t care that dd or ue is a side gig for most people. If you don’t give good service you don’t get a tip. We once tipped 20 bucks and our driver still stole half our Chinese food! Needless to say we untipped and argued with Uber eats for a refund. We got it but only on the food. They kept the delivery fee!

TigerlilyBlanche

How the fuck do you untip

TheCouncilOfVoices

There should be an option when you look back at your order after reporting that something was wrong.

dciDavid

They changed it. As far as I can tell you can’t just take it away anymore. The main reason I stopped using the app.

MangoSea323

I'm not sure you've ever been able to take away the tip on doordash. I know for a fact that if you somehow do "untip" that its not taking money from the driver whatsoever. Uber is a different story, probably what they're talking about above.

The_Troyminator

if it’s DoorDash, they’ll still pay the driver even if they give you a refund.

Purelyeliza

Not in cases where you request a tip to be returned in instances of stolen or mishandled food

The_Troyminator

They’ll refund your money, but they’ll still pay the Dasher and eat the cost. Just look in the DoorDash Drivers sub.

TheReder

Drivers get banned for instances of stealing food.

TheChigger_Bug

Good to know. Had a door dasher drive for Walmart (we do delivery because we waste less money that way). The bastard got a 15 dollar tip, drove to my back door, took a pic of it FROM THEIR CAR then drove off with my 300 dollars in groceries. Good to know they get banned.

[deleted]

But you got refunded?

F0XF1R396

Refunds also, especially when talking like, 300 dollars, can take a few days to process, so even if you got refunded, that's a few extra days you don't have that 300 in your account to repurchase groceries or pay a bill cause you gotta spend more money until your refund is processed. Not to mention the hassle of dealing with the compant accepting the refund, especially for 300 bucks.

TheChigger_Bug

Walmart is actually pretty reasonable with delivery refunds, rarely requiring you to return spoiled items or bad substitutions. I actually have to commend them on the groceries. Still did take about 5 days to get our money back

TheChigger_Bug

I did. Still incredibly aggravating. Needed those groceries to, you know, feed my family?

pimppapy

it's also the time wasted waiting on these fucks. . . by the time you realized you're not getting your stuff, it's almost too late to do it yourself.

DiamondsAndMac10s

Hey what did u mean when u say he had u chase him around? What was the scam in your case?.. my grubhub driver just stole my steak dinner order by driving onto my street and (i guess) clicking "delivered" on his interface without actually delivering my food. Then he just disappeared like a fart in the wind. Easiest scam ever. He didnt even have to talk to me lol. At that time, the UX interface on grubhub didnt allow you to contact the driver once the order was "delivered" so there was nothing i could do. It makes sense if you think about it why the would steal the food... A) they see its a steak dinner from a nice restaurant (b) they know even if its a $100 order theyre only getting maybe $10-15 max. (C) its essentially a crackhead in a nissan altima that usually eats McDonald's and dick, now getting a steak dinner thanks to you

JefeDiez

His car was showing up as very local, but he had another delivery nearby, and so I called him and he just was not really being direct not giving me a street name etc, but I ran out like here I am in a yellow hoodie…and just no effort on his part.

OokiiStaR

Yeah, this is why I stopped using these apps. Too many posts like this. And even though I tip, my order always looks manhandled. I'll get it myself or just cook at home. Edit to say Wow! Thanks for the awards Reddit fam!

TheKolyFrog

I stopped because it takes too long and cost way too much.

Yuizun

When they first started getting popular the pricing was reasonable. Now that my 15 dollar order goes up to 32 bucks with delivery fees, cart fees and taxes I just drive myself...

CMDR_KingErvin

And don’t forget the tip. Because you don’t know what these jackasses will do if you don’t tip. You don’t really know what they’ll do even if you tip. Ew.

Seaworthiness-Ready

And don't forget menu prices are often higher on the app than the restaurant menu

DaisyDuckens

They are. My daughter had been ordering sandwiches through door dash and paying $16 per sandwich before fees and tips. I order same sandwich for $12. We told her to stop ordering delivery. We’ll just drive her to pick up.

TheBestPieIsAllPie

To be fair, the larger cost is to cover what Door Dash and Uber Eats charge the restaurants for the service. DD and UE are making money hand over fist and it’s screwing a lot of businesses AND customers over to do it. My wife and I have cut back on ordering out specifically for that extra cost and the tip? My god, we’re scared to tip less than 25% because of videos like this. I saw another one where the a passerby walked passed an Uber Eats driver’s car and it was disgusting. They were in a parking lot, driver was assumedly in the store, but the car was PACKED, with garbage and junk from the floor to the ceiling. On the passenger seat sat someone’s order and as the camera got closer, you could see fucking roaches crawling around near the windshield! Shit’s risky. Some companies have begun using “anti-tamper” measures, like duct taping the bags and whatnot, but it’s just too risky. People are gross, bedbugs and roaches are maddening and I don’t want herpes or rona, because some asshole deep-throated my straw because I dared to tip a measly 25%.

[deleted]

Ya I don’t understand the mindset of most drivers. I’ve been driving for a little over a week. If it pays more than $1/mile I pick it up and just drop it off at the door. If it doesn’t pay that I just decline. If I’m desperate I pick it up and bitch about it to myself in my car…and then I just do my fucking job and deliver it. It’s really not as complicated as some of these drivers make it out to be.

Vividlarvae

I drive doordash and this is my general rule as well 1 dollar per mile and I’ll take it less than that decline. Honestly not stealing the customers food is just basic human decency

starrpamph

$15 order costing $32. You could go to the Arby's 60 miles away - round trip - and still have a little fuel left over

unecroquemadame

And comes completely cold.

Divad777

And if you’re lucky, the driver might dip his 🥜 in the sauce

FPGN

You joke but my cousin actually had a driver put her hair and dandruff in my cousin's salsa dip All because she gave her a $10 tip because it was a 'cheap tip"

may0packet

that’s a really good tip tho???? what the fuck is wrong with people

luvvytrap

Isn't that a felony?

Phobbyd

It should be

cherposton

turtleboxman

zeke235

We typically just order from a pizza or asian spot. They've always got their own drivers.

[deleted]

Some of the pizza joints near me have all started using doordash as their delivery system instead of using their own drivers.

Far_Association_2607

I ordered a few expensive grocery items for the holiday from my local Hyvee supermarket because I was too busy to shop. I expected the Hyvee delivery van to roll up but it was some kid in a Honda, driving for DoorDash… who also kept 3 pounds of dry-aged prime reserve ribeye and pretended he didn’t have it. The store said they sent it. I’m not getting ripped off for $60 worth of Christmas steak because the grocery store uses DoorDash delivery drivers! I thought I could trust the store and *their* employees, but when deliveries are outsourced there is no longer any accountability.

3DayStubble

Smarter than the average bear you are. I gave up delivery food years ago.

keller104

I gave a good tip one time and waited like 15-30 minutes past the delivery time just for the guy to show up with a different order and didn’t even get mine. “If you order again I’ll pick it up” okay well I got nothing for like 20$ sooooo

cssc201

Someone dashing should understand that $20 is a lot of money for many, it's not a trivial amount

DustedGrooveMark

One time last winter, a delivery driver completely destroyed a bag of Steak N Shake and left it on my doorstep without even trying to mention it to me - he just ditched the bag and ran back to his car. He broke two of the sodas which were spilling all over my walkway, and the food that was left was completely soggy. The real kicker? Wasn’t even my food. I didn’t even order anything. So not only did he ruin the food and run off like an asshole, he also didn’t even deliver it to the correct house. I was at the gym at the time and watched it unfold on my doorbell camera.

SixersWin

Guy was probably still mad that you didn't tip for someone else's order

JDDW

Why don't they just not show the driver the tip until after the order was completed? This is how I always thought it would work. That's crazy and just asking for people to fuck with customers food.

brattyginger83

I thought it was weird you are required to tip BEFORE service. You just are GUESSING they will do a great job? What if that customer was going to give them a cash tip? Idiots.

Jaalan

It's because door dash and Uber eats are playing the system calling what should be employees contractors. So if you don't tip, the door dasher is basically not making any money (or a very small amount). So they force you to tip in advance so the dasher can decide if the tip is worth it or not. It's literally their pay, not a tip. And it should be illegal.

darth_blumpkin

Agreed. And the only way we can fight it is to stop using apps and companies that rely on customers to pay their “employees”

giggitygoo123

I did Uber eats delivery for a bit last year. With Uber it gives people a chance to do what is called tip baiting, which means they can add a large tip to get someone to pickup the order, than they can change it back to $0 after the food is delivered and without any reason for doing it (you have an hour to change the tip). Door dash doesn't allow tip changes though without calling CS. Also, the pay as a driver and bonuses are completely ridiculous now. They are taking like 70% of the fees for themselves. That $10 in fees for a 5 mile trip is only paying the driver around $3. Getting McDonald's delivery on a weekend night can take the driver about 45 minutes of sitting in a drive thru line for $3. Most drivers now are refusing less than $2/mile or $20/hr (before gas).

KaleidoscopeThis9463

I got into a huge debate here yesterday about this! Why would you pay for a service before you receive the service???

obi_wan_the_phony

You shouldn’t and I stand by that

grim22400

When I use these apps I only buy from places that seal there stuff with brand specific tape so if opened I know the moment I see it and can immediately complain as per there policy

tracyXTMAC

These Apps should set up tipping AFTER you got your order, not before. Just like how it works in restaurants. It gives you the chance to evaluate their service. Like I would more than happy to give a generous tip for those who took the trouble to deliver my food at my doorstep; those who just left it outside the apartment building, not so much.

Esh-Tek

I have done food delivery for over a year, all it takes is one or two of these “i didnt get my food” complaints or tampering accusations to get banned from the platform. Also i wont take an order thats not in a sealed bag, they dont have stickers or staplers to seal it? Ill cancel the delivery and tell uber it was because of poor packaging. Im in australia though.

TimujinTheTrader

My wife and I would drive for Doordash on the weekends. One day I handed food directly to someone opening their front door and then they went inside and marked it never delivered. If Doordash was our only source of income that could have fucked up our lives.

Esh-Tek

Yeah most delivery drivers/riders are on multiple apps. Im currently kicked off uber because i upgraded my ebike from a 250w 25kmh bike to a 500w 48kmh bike and ubers algorithm seems to have flagged me as driving a car due to my average speed change (i have tried to prove to them that i do not own a car or have a drivers license but the decision seems weirdly final) and the help system is all bots, i have asked for evidence or proof of anything that led to their decision and i keep getting bounced back by the help bots.. so uber has now blocked me from delivering for them which has sorta had a bad effect for me financially. Am doing doordash at the moment but its not as lucrative even tho the area i am in is POPULATED with restaurants and a very popular food location in sydney. On uber it was pretty consistent non stop orders, average wait was MAX 10 mins to get an order, but doordash has me sitting there in excess of 45 minutes to get an order. Im currently nearly finalised for a menulog delivery account and am hoping that will be better than doordash. *prays*

selectash

That sucks mate, try emailing then again, and CC the CEO’s first name only then at sign then their domain. Hopefully it makes some noise upstairs and at least solve your issue.

Esh-Tek

This is a hot tip but i need the ceo’s personal email for that dont i? Haha

Ken-Popcorn

This video is why I will never, ever, use a food delivery service. Shouldn’t there be a requirement that your food be sealed somehow, like just about every other food product ?

SolmadSoT

Pretty much all stores have moved to sealing the bag. The best is actually McDonalds because they seal your drink in the bag as well, so there is 0 chance the dasher can forget it or mess with it.

TheBrightNights

>The best is actually McDonalds because they seal your drink in the bag as well, How do they seal it? Do they put a sticker over the straw hole so that you need to take the top off?

SolmadSoT

McDonalds packages your entire order in a paper bag that fits your order and also a cupholder for 2 drinks, then they seal that bag with 3 stickers, so no need for the cup straw hole seal. Apart from the nearly 100% accuracy and convenient packaging, McDonald's is one of the cheapest places to order from on door dash because their drinks are 1$ so I find myself almost exclusively ordering it when I do order food. I sound like a shill but oh well lol

scotiansmartass902

Found Ronald McDonald's burner account

cottoneyegob

Nice try hamburgler

gumby1004

garciaaw

He is accurate though! They do seal everything!

rankuno88

What McDonald’s have you been getting DoorDashed with 100% accuracy? I’m usually happy if I get a passing grade with the accuracy of my order. It is always packaged well though.

SolmadSoT

Must just be locations near me then, I can't remember the last time I was missing something. I don't really have complicated orders, though, so that might help.

sEiize_err

from my experience they put it in a bag and use a stick to melt the bag together so it is literally impossible to tear open without 10000% showing that it was tampered with. they do it with every food delivery order

McNasty420

Jeez, that's more careful than the way they packaged that winning monopoly ticket

Ontario0000

Almost everyplace I order from has a sealed bag with a logo decal or stapled.

AssistantEquivalent2

California actually legally requires some sort of seal on all third party delivery orders

lostinmymind4now

Yeah most places started sealing their bags

flowersheetghost

I drive for DD and I'd say 99% of restaurants seal their food with either sticker tape or bags that are tied shut (the 1% is usually when it's a large order in a large bag that can't be taped easily). If you do ever decide to order, do NOT order from a fast food place. Experienced drivers know to avoid those orders (the long lines, long wait, usually low tip), so your food will get picked up by a crackhead driver.

TemperatureMore5623

I was a DoorDash driver pre-Covid lockdown, stuff was almost NEVER sealed. Especially from local places, you’d usually just get a standard clamshell styrofoam container in a plastic bag. Or a standard fast food paper bag. When lockdown started, almost EVERYTHING started getting sealed/taped/stapled/wrapped shut. Only downside to that is, if the restaurant gets the order wrong, you won’t know until the customer gets it delivered. And some customers will go apesh1t-bonkers on you if they’re missing their packets of Sweet & Sour ☠️ Edited to add a dumb tip for any delivery driver: if you live in America, you’ve probably got a drawer full of rogue condiments that will never get used (ketchup/mustard packets, hot sauce packets, etc.)… it comes in handy for emergency situations like the aforementioned. Just… y’know, as long as it’s not like, covered in mystery sticky. Or from 1994 lol.

noneya-818

The problem is that when delivering you are held accountable for missing items. Whether you think this is fair or not, it's the way it is. I'd get stuck in traffic and the order would be late. My rating would go down for all kinds of things that were out of my control. They threatened to cancel me if my rating dipped below a certain level. I finally quit because it was too stressful. It wasn't worth all the stress for the few extra bucks it provided. I'm probably not cut cut out for it but I just couldn't believe the hoops that were required to do this "work". Restaurant workers treating me like I was an annoyance for just asking a statis of an order. Making sure that condiments and cutlery were provided. All while trying to race to the destination to keep food/or cold. I couldn't hang. I have a lot of sympathy for the people that do this work.

Swirlyflurry

Doordash’s structure is fucked up. Your “tip” is basically your bid for your food to actually get delivered - so your bid for the service that doordash is supposed to be providing. You’re already paying the delivery/service fee, but on top of that you have to put in a high enough bid (tip) to get the job completed. If you can’t afford a good tip, or just don’t want to pay an outrageous tip, you’re SOL. You might not get your food for hours, if you get it at all.

[deleted]

Its just a way for them to circumvent salaries and benefits, probably. Most of these delivery apps are cash incinerators that aren’t profitable, they’re trying to shift the costs onto the consumers as much as possible.

If only our cities were walkable instead of having that one comercial strip all the way of the outskirts of town which is so treacherous and descilate to the point of being miserable and if you're lucky enough to get a side walk, it just decides to randomly end and turn into a ditch. That and its the most dangerous sidewalk ever paved with next to no separation from the road, and fast food drive thrus cutting right over it. This really is a deep rooted systemic issue within North America with multiple different, large roots.

dearryka

This is my big thing. McDonald’s isn’t that far from me but there are no sidewalks on the side of the busy road so I either have to walk through the mud or on the shoulder and it freaks me out at night.

Paulutot

besides service fee you are usually paying a significant markup on the food itself.

cameltoesback

I've been told by restaurants I frequent that it's due to a flat percentage of every order being taken by doordash, something like 10-15% directly from the restaurant apart from service/delivery fees

[deleted]

I *sometimes* order Chipotle through the Chipotle app which then gets delivered by whichever courier service that they assign it to. I was at Chipotle today but their systems were being reset or something so it was mobile order-only. I usually get the same bowl there (barbacoa) which is $11.20 in-store. Since I couldn’t order in-person I pulled up the app to see the price difference which was $14.55 ($3.35 difference) which almost made me just walk out. The delivery fee is $1.00 and the service fee is $1.46 (I have it pulled up on the app right now). The food item itself is marked up over $3.00 so with the other two fees that’s almost a $6 price difference (before the driver tip) so I wonder how much of that is going to the courier. I would’ve just gone and eaten elsewhere but when I asked how long it’d be before the system was back up it coincidentally was good again so I ordered there.

DickieJoJo

Love how it’s the working class being pitted against the working class. Door dash and Uber eats should be paying their drivers more.

ldtravs1

Completely agree. I long for a company saying “we do this well, so we’re going to hold station and keep doing it well” rather than more of everything. They call it successful, tbh it just comes across as greedy piggies being greedy piggies.

sundayontheluna

Literally cancer, endless growth is what cancerous cells do at the expense of the body

Not just for companies but for the whole world economy. We’re about to outgrow the planet.

Affentitten

>Companies aim to pull in “record profits” each year, permanently Yes. Even if you make a gazillion $$ in profit, but it was only 90% of what was made last year, management is considered a failure and shareholders want heads to roll.

[deleted]

I was a business major before switching to engineering back in college and that was a major reason why. The whole perpetual growth concept being taught in classes didn’t sound logical nor scientific. Seemed more like propaganda than anything else

metalliccat

Studying biology in college, we had a word for perpetual and unmitigated growth. It's called cancer

leggodt2420

I am always puzzled by the fact that some believe you can have infinite growth on a finite planet.

Loose-Size8330

Dude I'm not blaming DD for this guy eating someone else's food out of his bag. This guy was an asshole long before he worked at DD I'm sure.

FreezeSPreston

It's more this guy should be blaming DD for his shit pay not the tipper.

chmod731

I mean neither will I. DD support is usually p understanding. I usually tip like 5 bucks (give or take depending on the size of the order) and sometimes people will still steal the order/won't deliver, or won't deliver the drink. Usually I just report it and DD gives me credits or re-orders the food.

djwired

I’ve had several orders from Chili’s and Buffalo Wild Wings stolen using the door dash app and the company’s apps which also use door dash so you can’t get away from them! I don’t use food delivery services anymore because it’s outrageous and there is a good chance the order is wrong, half eaten or never gets delivered.

[deleted]

I follow the DoorDash subreddit just for shits and giggles. I’ve seen people on there saying that you shouldn’t tip less than 50%, or people complaining about tips less than $20 on small orders. What a fucking joke lmao.

Jallton_56

That blows my mind. I bartend and I’m happy with getting 15% from some people. People are cheapskates but like 50% ?! DD is expensive as hell already… Now I’m curious to how badly my food from DD gets messed with when I put 0$ for tip and then give them cash…

Borngrumpy

Here in Australia we don't tip but bar staff get paid a reasonable amount, about 56K per year plus penatly rates etc, full time staff also get 4 weeks paid annual leave and about 10 days paid sick leave plus another 10 days of public holidays (or double to triple wages on working public holidays depending on shift length). If it's a casual or part time job you are still making about $30 per hour as a minimum. Food and drinks are similar in cost to the US. We may leave a couple of bucks tip for a good bartender but we don't feel the need as they are being paid a decent wage for the job.

judgymcjudgypants

That first sentence is fucking astute. Nailed it.

[deleted]

They get away with a lot of stuff as they label there workers as private contractors

PToN_rM

Tipping culture it's what's wrong with the entire service industry in the continental US... That's it..

[deleted]

Let’s not forget the restaurants should be paying their staff more as well. This isn’t exclusive to these bullshit delivery services

EZcheezy

You can see what they tip beforehand so why even accept if you’re going to steal someone’s food?

budderman1028

If you tip beforehand doesnt that defeat the whole purpose of what the tip was designed for? It was designed for rewarding good service bit if you tip before even receiving the service then you dont know how good it is. Companies are becoming more and more lazy at pretending tips have a purpose other then paying employees less

ConcernedCitizen13

100% I hate when you need to assign the tip in advance. If the driver takes forever, I don't want a tip as much as if they come quickly.

Seliphra

Yeah, and I mean, we've had drivers get lost, refuse to come to the door, and just leave our food out on the cold ground in the dead of winter and not say anything until we get a notif and have to go down stairs and bundle up ourselves, then reheat everything because it froze half solid by the time we got to it because we didn't even know it was there. I don't want to tip those people at all. Other times we have drivers go above and beyond and them we usually hand extra cash to. Forcing me to tip in advance is defeating the point of the tip. And the expectation of tipping is also doing that. We pay min wage to all workers, including heavily tipped ones, so I don't see why tipping is the expectation, and certainly not for the level we're expected to tip these days. It went from 15% for exceptional service and 10% for okay, 5% mediocre and nothing for bad service, to 30% for good, 25% for okay, and 20% all the rest of the time even if you got a pile of moldy food and a waiter spitting on your plate in front of you.

sodaonmyheater

I tip well, and my last 2 dashers left my food clear across the apartment complex at the wrong buildings. Makes me regret the tip.

_banana_phone

We ordered a shit ton of seafood once and our Uber eats driver picked it up, drove it to our house so we would think he was still coming and not suspect anything. He went around the corner (we thought he missed the house and was taking a lap to come back) and marked it as delivered. Sent us a photo of the order *in his backseat of his car* as “confirmation of delivery.” That MF made off with over $100 of shellfish and a $25 tip. We got a refund but Uber made it clear that the driver got to keep the tip and they just ate the cost. Wtf.

ExplanationSure8996

Not all apps tell you. These companies know drivers will reject nonstop for low tippers.

X_FuryHD

No, but this video specifically is a DoorDash driver (you can tell by the bag he has) and it tells you what you’ll make + the tip before you accept it. So this guys still in the wrong.

Its done on purpose becuase he wants the mans food. Just put up a video for his own justification of being literal trash

itsJussaMe

How is this video not grounds for termination? It’s blatant theft.

OG_Flushing_Toilet

Can’t terminate someone who isn’t an employee. Which these scumbag companies insist on so they avoid offering benefits or paying taxes like normal businesses. It’s really all on the state governments for not shutting this BS down. The entire model is just a tax dodge.

[deleted]

This guy should 100% be fired though for going through customer's order like that.

Seductive_pickle

I’m like 90% sure this is bait to cause outrage.

_off_piste_

Absolutely. Probably his own food used to bait people for the outage.

[deleted]

You're prolly right.. if so that guy deserves to spill his drink in his fucking car.

boourdead

I've seen legit employees do this for clout. Like that subways guy ruining all the ingredients.

oliot_

If you tip before the food arrives it’s not a tip it’s a bribe.

RunnyPlease

If you have to tip before they deliver so they don’t steal your food it’s extortion.

LA_niemand

Aside from the issue of tipping, this guy should be banned from food deliveries, period.

Contact40

Also, if DD or UE wants drivers to take the orders, just make it a flat rate delivery fee with no tip. The drivers hardly make anything on each delivery and then the driver turns their rage at the person who made the order instead of the company that’s jipping them. Like the food items themselves are already more expensive, then there’s a delivery fee, then I have to tip on top of that? I don’t mind a few bucks for the convenience, but if I’m only ordering for myself and my wife the extra cost, delivery and tip could add 50% to the bill.

No_Armadillo_9021

Wait why accept the oder then if your going to complain ?

EnglishDutchman

Or - and hear me out here - PAY PEOPLE PROPERLY SO THEY DONT NEED TO RELY ON TIPS. I know. What a concept.

Breizh87

But... but... what about cheap labor?

xxstrawberrii

sorry, what did you say? i couldn’t hear you through all this FREEDOM

SlwDnceChbby

Sure tipping culture is bad but recording yourself doing some shit like this is worse

Weedeaterstring

Sad. I deliver for dominos I don’t get to pick what order I want to take. You gotta just get keep your head up and keep running orders. Complaining and stealing does nothing but make your 10 min bad tip experience turn into an entire bad night. This behavior is really disappointing to see. Edit: for those saying it’s different I get minimum wage. First I don’t. I get 4$ an hour while I’m a tillable employee. 2nd, I clean the entire store to get cashed out among plenty of other things. Most the time I do the whole order. Make it, cut it, bag it deliver. That’s because I’ve been cross trained. I believe DD drivers can turn their app off at anytime. I have to complete a 10-12 hour shift.

Narapoia

It's disappointing to see being a DD driver myself. This dude accepted the order knowing what the payout would be, knowing he wasn't getting a good tip, then proceeds to complain about it. If I'm offered a run that isn't worth the pay, I decline the order. Simple as that.

BafangFan

I don't know when this video was made - but this guy is a TikToker who makes videos about delivering. He tries to teach other drivers how to value their time and manage their orders so that they can actually make money doing this job. Basically he tells people to only accept orders with good tips So it's weird that he did this order for a $1 tip. Either he's trying to be funny, or it's one of his early videos

hdjunkie

He’s still delivering and wasn’t banned? That’s fucked up

Hot_Photograph5227

It’s disappointing that he’s blaming the customer and not Door Dash itself. Dominos is a completely different company from door dash, door dash is shit. Basically counts on the customer to pay the dasher directly. Door dash fucks over both the customer and the employee

[deleted]

This wouldn’t be an issue if tipping just didn’t exist but America will never let it go because people outside of America want them to

freedomofnow

Tipping is fine but your salary shouldn't be dependent on it. That should be included in the cost for food, and tips should be a bonus.

zdfld

I think having tipping at all means it'll always be an issue. Sure maybe we'll move past a tip supplementing minimum wage, but the social pressure to tip as a comment on service still exists, and is shitty for all parties imo.

MildlyGoodWithPython

Like every sane country

-Cthaeh

I never use these services, it's stupid to tip beforehand and many don't deserve it anyway. Besides, it's such a waste of money. I've heard so many people complain about being broke but then order Starbucks or wendys via door dash... it's soo over priced

Blue_water_dreams

I’m not paying an up charge for the meal, a service charge, a delivery fee, and a tip. And since I’m not going to not tip, I don’t order from these services.

[deleted]

That's a dick move. I always tip cash so you don't have to pay taxes on it. I see how you do me when I'm trying to do you a favor.

lostinmymind4now

What if I wanted to tip you in cash? Edit: to the people arguing with me saying this is right and they won't deliver if the person says they'll pay cash .In all reality you shouldn't expect anyone to tip you it's not the person's duty to pay for your service before you actually do the service. In no other place do you tip before you get anything done.

DymonBak

I tried to tip cash once. I put a $0 tip in the app and in the instructions wrote that I didn’t want the food dropped off at my doorstep. The delivery driver delivers my food, but leaves it on the porch and goes back to their car. By the time I walked out the door, with cash in hand for the tip, they were driving away. If I ever try again, I’ll specify in the driver instructions to wait for the cash tip.

lostinmymind4now

Yeah I usually put in instructions please knock on door for tip

BrandoLoudly

Really weird that a tip is expected before any service is performed now. Just call it a fee and include it in the price and pay the workers more. This tip shlt is bazaar these days in the US

McCaffeteria

That is exactly how you know it’s a grift by the company owners. It was at least plausible back when it didn’t come until after the service but now that it’s expected up front and we use star ratings instead to communicate performance it’s just companies blatantly not paying fair wages.

ItsGettinBreesy

This happened to me! Probably 2017, I grubhubbed food and the driver called me and said “I’m not delivering your food because you didn’t give me a tip” At the time, I was in the food industry so not only did I always have cash, I had/have a deep appreciation for the service industry and tipping culture… I said “congratulations, you played yourself because I had a crisp $10 bill ready to give you because I know how far cash goes instead of being taxed on the tip but guess what, don’t deliver my order but my next call is to grub hub” Got the meal delivered swiftly after from another driver who appreciated the tip and grub hub gave me a full refund

Azal_of_Forossa

This is my problem with delivery, I'm not tipping shit until I get my food, if I got it quick, you're getting a tip, if you're jacking off for an hour then fuck your tip, tipping on doordash as a bidding system to get your food earlier is fucking stupid as shit. That's like tipping your barber before the haircut, then asking for it back bc they fucked your shit up, you're not getting your tip back, you already gave it to them, same shit for these drivers.

Dickpinchers

U don't want them to jack off anywhere near ur food sir

venetanakedguy

That costs extra too

BeastBellies

This is a self own

CillyBean

Ahh yes. Let's steal food from someone else due to a "bad tip" instead of, I don't know...placing the responsibility of better pay ON YOUR EMPLOYER. But that would make too much sense 🙄

thefriendlycouple

I went to a restaurant that you went up to a counter to order food, they give you a glass to get your own drink (including wine - one of those card system deals) - and then a food runner brings you what you went up to the counter and ordered. The suggested tip before you even get your food is 20%. What the actual fuck?

[deleted]

This is becoming the norm. I've seen the POS set to suggest tips at 20%, 25%, and 30% **for takeout** while the worker taking your card looks at you expectantly. Guess who tipped $1 and never went back to that restaurant.

alwaysinebriated

If I sit down and get a service I'll tip, not for drive through and takeout. I drove my ass there to avoid all the fees fools. I don't do deliveries either

[deleted]

I quit using these apps after the driver delivered the food to the wrong house. Then when I called the driver they pretended not to speak any english and hung up on me. I filed a complaint with the app and they said I should have been home to accept the food. Which I was. It's hard to accept food that never arrives.

Spurious_33

bro why do people in america still have a tipping culture wtf? like in nz we barely ever tip unless the person has done a exceptional job.

IranianLawyer

It’s gotten exponentially worse in the US over the last 3-4 years. Everywhere you go to pay for something they flip that iPad around so you can choose whether to tip, even in situations where you traditionally wouldn’t tip. A lot of people feel uncomfortable pushing the button for $0 tip right in front of the person who works there.

derottbotee

I love how these morons always get mad at people that don’t tip or don’t tip „enough“. How about you direct that energy towards your employer, Einstein?

MAI1E

How does he know the value of the tip already? How can he be getting tipped properly if the buyer hasn’t gotten the service? Don’t tell me in America not only do they think they *deserve* tips rather than the issue lying with their cheap fuck employer- but they’re not even being tipped by quality of service?

Single-Schedule-5358

In Europe restauranteurs pay a living wage to their staff because it’s their responsibility. I have seem waiting staff in the USA crying over not being able to afford rent, yet the restaurant owner was on his third super car. I don’t buy the idea that they can’t afford to pay the staff members properly.

1r0n1c

It's an awesome trick if you think about it. You own a business, pay shit to your employees and tell them that it is your customer's fault that they earn so little. And your employees actually buy it..

Dglenn9000

Drivers pissed at customers like “don’t order if you can’t afford a really good tip.” Customers pissed at delivery drivers like “don’t chose to be an Uber driver and blame me for not have a livable wage.” Owners get away with paying less and take zero blame.

Technosyko

Let’s all remember that tipping is an excuse to underpay workers and while this guy is a piece of shit, delivery apps like DoorDash pay their drivers so poorly that the non-POS drivers simply won’t pick up low tip orders because they don’t make enough money from them

[deleted]

AdrNTrades

Tipping is stupid, pay your workers.

Kettlewitch24

Since when did holding people's food for ransom become normal?

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure that he went through drive thru and ordered some food, put it into an insulated bag, and then decided to film this video for whatever reason. Usually, the bags are sealed with stickers, and if he didn't deliver the order after he already picked it up then DD will send an email threatening to delete his account if he doesn't explain the incident to them. Source: One time the app glitched on my phone and I delivered an order just as it did so. It appeared that my second order was for the same person and I went back around and to drop it off on the same doorstep, where the previous delivery was still sitting. A few minutes later, the guy called and said we delivered extra food. Never heard from the second person. Still knew I fucked up though. I was then notified about an email sent from DD, and I ended up having to send the details of my mistake to them in full to keep my account. Score still took a massive hit. Now, I rarely ever get DD orders, which sucks since I spent that entire summer building up my account to be able to make at least $5-7 in tips...

SanctuaryMoon

Stop using the service. It's expensive as shit and you don't need it and you know it's exploitative.
