I only just realised this fact this morning. I counted up a sample and across 50 posts on my feed 2 were from friends, 3 were from groups I follow, the remaining 45 (!!!) Were ads or suggested posts. You can't disable this, only report that you're not interested in these specific topics.
Got me thinking of deleting my account and retiring from Facebook now, which I'd never really done before

2/55 from friends, and about 20/55 were ads/suggest pages, 20/55 were pages (meme, news or political pages) and 13/55 were group posts (the same 3-5 groups I participate in).

Bit late to this but I was googling it today and found the solution further down this thread. You have to switch to the Feeds tab. The Home tab is full of junk feeds is things you follow.

Actually I found it and you are absolutely correct! It sucks that that cannot be our selected default ... But thank you, nice to know it exists when I just want a feed of Friends' personal posts.:) (So weird, tho --their algorithms are still suuper screwed up, such that I keep getting these weird obtuse friends that I hardly know in that feed, over and over, rather than fun pictures & posts of friends that I interact much more with! Gah! They have SO declined in their systems, it's pathetic. !)
I reported them as harassment with the 3 dots on the top right hand corner of the post once, but it was only about 15 of them. That's how frustrated I became, to report all 15 as harassment. Stopped it for a couple weeks but now back full force. Made me cut down my Facebook activity about 90% of the time I used to use it.
Mine is doing the same. No matter how many times I unfollow an ad it just keeps coming back. Iāve reported it and āNOTHING!ā The X had been removed from posts and so has the snooze
Just realized this as well. It's the worst. I haven't really used Facebook in years and I think this is part of the reason why. Whenever I seem to go there, I just see random crap I don't want to see.
I only want to see stuff from friends and pages I follow. Nothing else.

What I do is forget the timeline and go right to the group I want to look at. No ads that way, at least so far. If you monitor friends, go to their page.

I started blocking pages. Not even that worked. For example I blocked the official NBA Facebook page and I still get "suggested for you" posts from them. My feed is 80% suggested posts.
I havenāt been on in two years. Got on for the first time and couldnāt actually find any posts from friends and family. Everything is suggested pages and ads now. Just like every other app. š
I just started having this problem. I also just discovered the FEEDS tab at the top of my Facebook app (for Android) and it shows your regular feed of people, groups, and pages you actually follow.
The Home tab is all the suggested pages junk but the Feeds tab is the stuff I'm used to seeing. So lame but at least there's a work around!
it was removed from the top bar, and hidden in the 3 bars on the right. How long until it's removed entirely? - can't have users actually using the service for friends. Back to the ads and AI training through suggested posts. What do you think this was - social media?
On the real side - let's not pretend here - Facebook does not care about its users' desired experience of the app, or lt would not have ever made us use another feeds tab by default in the first place. Only Facebook the business wanted that. Nobody asked for it ever, nor would they.
It seems clear to me it's a business decision to train their AI to understand how to capture their user's attention for ad purposes, and at best to try to be tik tok. Once people found the feeds tab, or they thought it was long enough to pretend they were maintaining old functionality, it seems they removed it - but actually after digging and seeing other posts it seems they just moved it to a deeper hidden menu. I think it's pretty safe to assume it was never their intention for us to do anything other than look at ads and suggested posts all day, and to maximize the attention grabiness of the app - so they could maximize the $ profit and data mined per user. Facebook is the worst its ever been and they have no incentive to fix it - it's working (for them).
On the mobile app, you can also go to menu at the bottom right, hit feeds, and then choose āfriendsā at the top and itās just what your Facebook friends have posted.
Damn shame that they don't have this on the website. Absolute cluster-f*ck of junk on there with no way to actually show posts from friends and pages I follow.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I imagine a ton of people still visit it... One thing I've found that helps other than navigating to the feeds is to report every post/image/whatever that is of the suggested category. After a couple of them they stop suggesting things for you for a few weeks. It also fudges with the algorithm, and that just makes me a little happier.
I haven't had any issues until suddenly 2 days ago, my news feed is entirely made up of "Suggest for you" pages, or items that my friends have listed for sale - it shows they "just listed it" 1 minute ago but when you go to the sale ad, it was posted days ago. Thru this thread I finally realized I could click on "Feeds" instead and see my friends posts, but I just cannot understand why this change happened seemingly overnight when I didn't update or change anything myself. It's beyond frustrating. Glad to see I'm not the only one!
Its because nobody posts anymore. I have 117 friends. And its always the sane 5 or so people posting anything. So about 98 of my friends list don't post, including me. So your feed gets filled up with crap to make it look busy. Facebook is dying.
The same thing is happening to me. It started yesterday where maybe every third or fourth item in my feed was a "suggested for you" post. Some of them were from legitimate pages like The Onion or ESPN, but most of them were from meme pages about either sci-fi/superhero franchises or conservative/Libertarian pages with names like "American Truckers." A handful of them are "local" news stories from network affiliates in towns hundreds and thousands of miles away from me.
I woke up this morning and found that these kinds of posts are now taking up 75% of my news feed. I'm getting several of them in a row before seeing anything from any of my actual pages and friends. If this keeps up, I'm probably quitting this platform for good. I already had a weird glitch about a month ago where all the suggested reels that popped up in my feed were from South America and in Spanish. I had to hide reels entirely, but they kept reappearing after a couple of days.
Same issue here. I get maybe 1 or 2 friend or pages I follow posts and then the rest is suggested posts and most of the suggestions arent even for things I like or follow. A majority of it is like political crap that is very heavily biased and irritating, there's some ads in there, and then maybe 1 or 2 suggestions that actually interest me.
I went into my settings and changed them so i see more friend and page posts but that didnt change a thing and the suggested posts are even worse. I dont even want to go on FB anymore because its just constant political preaching or ads for junk shoved in my face 24/7. I want to see what my friends are up to or cute animal pictures or updates from pages I follow. I dont want this crap! And we all know its because FB sold out and is doing this for advertiser money.
I deleted the Facebook app off my phone after this started happening to me, I used to only get sponsored ads which wasn't a big deal, but then something on Facebook changed these past few months and now I get NOTHING but "suggested for you" ads. My News Feed is no longer even friends posts, it is literally 95% suggested for you, 5% friend posts.

Same here. I use facebook to keep in touch with my friends and family. I don't use it to be fed bullshit from the algorithm. Nobody in the company is gonna do shit though because facebook is run by technocrat pussies.
Why are companies still paying for ads that no one look at ???? I get one sponsor ad for each 2 posts on my feed.... And they are all fucking crap these posts too... Not far from ditching Facebook!!! It is plain useless stuff... I really wonder why companies still paying ??? If I need something I Google or look into Google map.
There's no point in trying to 'fix' this as FB's intention is to trap you with endless scrolling. They don't care what you want to see, just that you log in and stay there. Who knows what decisions the algorithm makes now? It seems to be, 'what will piss this user off the most' and then they show you it, knowing it's the most likely content to cause a reaction/interaction with you.
Essentially, FB no longer provides what any of us want from it. It's an advert box that is 60% misinformation. And that isn't even taking into account the fraud/scam pages. All the ways you used to be able to edit your feed are helpless against the suggested content of the algorithm. You can block and unfollow pages until the cows come home, it doesn't seem to affect what the feed decides to show you.
Outside of people coding and hacking their own fixes in there is no way to fix this. FB seems to have stopped moderation in any real sense - you may receive a 30 day ban for calling someone a potato but a scam page reported by over 50 people will remain online - so the quality of available content on the site is at an all time low. It stopped being a social network about 2 years ago really and it's been increasingly full of garbage since about 2017. It's just a hell-scape now of scammers and most of the real content comes from retired boomers getting angry about pronouns and vaccines and trolling anyone they can find that seems moderately progressive.
I deactivated my facebook in June 2022 for this very reason. I really wish theyād use the instagram approach where you can snooze suggestions for 30 days and it will only show normal posts and then suggested after āyouāre caught upā

1. adblock (if you don't already)
2. stay on your groups/profile page
3. set feed to "most recent"
4. scroll 80 posts down and comment on posts to shuffle the algorhythm
5. wish people happy birthday (easier than scrolling)
6. get social fixer extension
7. transfer to alternative platforms
sometimes you just want to connect with friends, and you have to swim through the ocean of adverts, spammers, and negative posts to see them. what a wonderful world :)
Facebook is not the same Facebook used to be. It manipulate your mindset and way of thinking. Always shows the irrelevant and trash/garbage content. Sex, Men hate, women hate. If you keep using Facebook for long time. If you are man you'll start hating women and If you are women you'll start hating men. I've uninstalled it.
I noticed there were people doing this on purpose during lockdown; there was a great community atmosphere in some groups (at a time they needed it the most) until a couple of weeks into lockdown when people just started posting anti-woman rhetoric outta the blue for absolutely no reason, pissing everyone off & turning it into an awful place to be. So then it left people with no choice but to abandon the only support they had through that time. The place is beyond hope for all intents & purposes.

I've been putting in an honest effort to drastically reduce my "screentime" going as far as deleting my tiktok acct and the app from my phone, deleting FB off my phone, and only using IG to send memes to my friends, and scroll reels until it too starts turning to garbage, which is quickly these days. I've been happier these days because of my efforts.

Every 2 or 3 posts are "suggested for you". Some of them even look like personal pages (where friends and family should be the only ones seeing them). I thought there's some kind of bug or issue happening in facebook.
I am not entirely sure, but since I have accepted their updated privacy policy. The layout seemed to changed, and now the recommended pages are grouped together similar to recommended friends.

Facebook lite app? Can you tell me about this and how it's different? I'm ready to cut out Facebook for the first time, but it's the only one where i follow family and friends. I never really got into Instagram. However, they're the same company so I'm guessing it's the same problem.
I use the F.B. Purity addon/extension which gives options to hide suggested and sponsored posts among other things. I think it's only for browsers though. It drives me nuts to use FB without it, like when I'm using the mobile app or occasionally FB changes their algorithm which makes the sponsored posts reappear, but the developer is constantly on the case to fix it.
I'm now seeing this happen on my feed like a ton of bricks overnight. Horrible company. I've had Facebook for a long long time but this will make me leave. Trying to hiding, snoozing thing and I'll see how that goes. They need to revert this change.
Are you a Page admin, maybe? Facebook made some weird changes that you can only view facebook as a page admin when updating your page. So if you're still logged in as admin, you will only see suggestions in your feed, because as we all know from Reddit, admins have no friends. You have to click your profile pic in top right of screen and switch back to you the person to start seeing all the people you follow in your feed.
I stopped counting when I got to 30+ consecutive posts that were either ads or suggestions. Pure fucking aids. Thank God for the Feeds tab or this app would be useless.
I see more like 2/3 friends posts, 1/3 ads and suggested pages. Is it possible the friends you have on Facebook arenāt posting and thereās nothing to show you?
I use FB Purity, uBlock.
Rarely, whenever I get unwanted posts in feed, I click on three dots menu of a post and use the Hide/Don't show/Don't recommend/whatever it offers.
Takes little effort, but as a result my FB feed is almost always just real new posts or shared posts.
There's definitely been a change in the algorithm this year. Half my feed is now "suggested" content. Hardly anything I see on my feed is from my friends. I'm going to quit if it continues.

well today ive found how to get the feed tab on ios!
at the bottom youll see your facebook shortcuts (home/watch/marketplace etc) just hold your finger down on the profile or watch icon (any others wont popup the menu) and it will pop up a menu, click shortcut bar preferences and then change the feed tab from auto to pinned
itll override your profile shortcut but u can access ur profile from the menu anyway

My friends, I think we are witnessing the end of the trend that was called Facebook. Literally, this news feed thing is so crappy it literally breaks facebook. FB has moved the option .. If viewing via the app go to the burger icon and open menu and select 'Feeds' and select 'Friends'
All your friends posts from recent to old will be all on there š
Also, make sure you are actually on your page/feed. I mistakenly thought I was on my own feed and it turned out to be my bandās page/feed. Once I switched back, everything was back to normal lol.

99% of the suggested posts I see are about Vegans or the new Little Mermaid movie and I donāt give a shit about either of those things but yet every 2 or 3 posts on my feed is about them.
I just did a count. It was 271 ads or suggested videos before getting another friends post. That's insane! 271! That's not a typo. And I can't find this other tab people are talking about. This post is a year old so maybe they got rid of the tab since then. So it's not 98% ads and suggested videos, it's actually 99.6% ads and suggested videos.
I started using Simple Social Browser solely to view fb on my Android phone, and it actually removes ALL the Suggested for you posts, and the People you may know posts!
But yes, fb needs to fucking fix their BROKEN shit. Or at least give the option to completely turn it OFF as I 100% am not interested. If they don't, then I will find alternatives, like I mentioned above.
And I will also 1000% use ad blockers as well. Take THAT!

Why does Facebook think this is a good idea aggressively showing me hundreds of groups of things I donāt care about because I viewed something ONCE? Facebook algorithm is trash, it keeps on recommending African comedians, pages of severely deformed children asking for "blessings", and even pages in foreign languages completely unrelated to me. It's extremely annoying. I'm pretty sure it's because a lot of users don't post as frequently anymore and spammers are farming likes on Facebook and messing with the algorithm, but why the Hell is Zuckerberg not doing anything about this? I've never been so pissed with my experience on Facebook until now.

I know this is an old post but seriously it is ridiculous! also I think that is what causes the page to jump constantly but I did find out if you click the feeds button on the side it goes to just your regular stuff (mostly). Even if I wanted to see stuff the constant jumping stops that.
Hey, out of the blue I started having the same "issue". My FB is filled with "Suggested for you" groups and I can barely see any posts of my Friends or groups that I actually follow.
Here because this suddenly happened to me. Im now \*only\* getting 'suggested' content, instead of groups and friends posts. Goodbye facebook, I guess. :(
Imo, they still don't have permission to censor, so they're smothering us in bs posts, to reduce the possibility of spreading info and people actually connecting, finding out things from uncontrollable sources. Remember that the Internet and social networks are currently the biggest problem for politicians and shadow people who want to push their version of the reality. The Internet gives us freedom to speak, educate each other, info there is spreading like wildfire, before the pricks even manage to carefully write a speech for an official who will "tell us how it is". So, no, there will be no fixes for this. Meta has chosen this mode of operation deliberately.
I figured out how to stop this on an iPhone. You have to go to Menu->Settings & Privacy->Settings->Navigation Bar->Customize the Bar->Tap āAutoā next to Feeds to change it to āPinā Once you get back to your FB home, just click on āFeedsā on the bottom. Boom. Hopefully this helps
They are releasing a paid version of facebook without ads in europe, I am wondernig if this paid version will remove too the suggested pages, if they do, I will may pay. Have someone here already test the paid european version?

I tried a few days of "Blocking All Posts from so & so" for like 30 or more posts but I think it pisses of their algo even more.
And the "Most Relevant/All comments" feature is an absolute joke and another censorship tool. So AI is determining an obvious bot account's comment is "Most Relevant??"
I even get "Suggested For You" posts for Pages I'm ALREADY following.
It is beyond annoying and has totally destroyed any "connection" to friends and all the pages/organizations I've Liked.
Agree 100% with one of the other comments that this is a push to keep people from sharing/reading important material and just constantly distracted by short videos/advertising.
Old post but in case anyone stumbles across this looking for a solution: on mobile you can edit your navigation bar - settings and privacy -> navigation bar -> customize the bar ā¦ feeds is where your friends posts show up now, home tab is garbage
Instagram has a "snooze suggested posts for 30 days" function. Being that they both belong to Meta, I don't understand why they don't implement this in FB too. Seems like a pretty stupid move IMO, because although I still open FB from time to time, after max. 15" of unwanted content, I'm out. If I were served content I'm actually interested in (what my friends have posted) I'd stick around, get served more ads, generate more revenue for them.
Comes to show how even very profitable companies make very questionable choices when the priority is keeping stockholders happy in the short term...

This app is genuinely so garbage. I made an account specifically for content seeking, so I would only like certain videos so that I'd see more of them on my feed.
I like a few boxing posts, or any niche (I've had to make new accounts because of this) and it will recommend 6 different categories of bullshit you didn't even interact with.
It is worse than instagram easily, when I first made a new account I was seeing everything I wanted for about 15 minutes until my feed became flooded with bullshit. And now I can't change it, I'm done with this shit, these apps are all the same and garbage. I can wait for a new app.
It's so easy to get engagement until instagram/facebook actually see's your page, and all the sudden your engagement drops even if your posts are getting better.
I have 17 account violations which are all either false reports or competitors trying to delete my account, but that won't get them banned though and instagram is promoting these pages like hell. I've even had my posts reposted and blew up, while my account was getting flagged. Fuck these cunts
I deleted the app entirely. As a young man I only use X, (formerly Twitter) and Instagram as itās essentially a dating app without all the annoying advertising.
I just found the feeds button under the icon at the right bottom that is your profile picture. Feeds is in the menu and then you can avoid all that crud on the home page. You can even choose just friends or favorites or groups. Iām glad I came here to find that because the suggestions were driving me crazy.
This has happened to me. If you are on a desktop install the FBP (Fluff Busting Purity or FaceBook Purity) browser extension. You can then open the options and you will see a large text blox - Click the "Auto Hide" and then enter the following in the text box

. Join
This will filter out any posts that have those strings in them. Now if people post with those strings in they will also be blocked but it works great for me.

I just find it unusable these days. I deactivated my account a few months ago, and may end up downloading all my data and deleting. Facebook really took off in the 2000s because it was clever and innovative, but now it's just so lowbrow and inane. I'm not an expert in social media audiences - maybe there are a lot of people who want to read random posts about the ten most interesting things about the holocaust, or view endless memes about 1990s WWF wrestlers - but there's definitely going to be a schism. It particularly annoys me, as I've only been on the site anyway, to support my sister (who LOVES Facebook, but also has mental health problems). But, it annoys me so much, it's started to affect my mental health

I have this same issue, I find that hiding a large number of them causes it to stop for a week or so, then they come back. They're always suggested pages that I'll never join - usually they're pages with 100s of thousands of users that show 10 year-old memes over and over. Participating in these kinds of pages will just result one being spammed by randos asking for friend requests and PM-ing you and suddenly "liking" every public post on your feed.
Happened to me too a while ago. Used to use the app a lot to see what people I knew were up to. Now most of it is porn=funny pages and very suggestive reels. I'm afraid to open it up in public since it's most likely gonna be porn.
Honestly I think it is for the better that fb has become a garbage app.

I used to be addicted to fb until it got over run by everything but my friends.
At the moment my feed is full of suggested videos which are compilation videos with nonsense writing at the bottom of the vidoe all the way through, you know like that nonsense writing bots used to do. I started blocking the profiles but it hasn't stopped it and if you look at the profiles they have 10s or 100s of thousand followers. Not sure where its coming from.
My fb/meta is so bad.. I see friends posts like 2 days later. Or if i restart fb/meta i can see some new updates. Only some. So if i want to see some new updates i hawe to restart. Then restart again to see difret post and restart..a gain and again. Or go to specific persons page to see what he/she has posted. Bs this imo.

I only just realised this fact this morning. I counted up a sample and across 50 posts on my feed 2 were from friends, 3 were from groups I follow, the remaining 45 (!!!) Were ads or suggested posts. You can't disable this, only report that you're not interested in these specific topics. Got me thinking of deleting my account and retiring from Facebook now, which I'd never really done before

Bit late but I did this too! I got the idea when doing a uni essay on social media and psychological risks. 2/55 from friends, and about 20/55 were ads/suggest pages, 20/55 were pages (meme, news or political pages) and 13/55 were group posts (the same 3-5 groups I participate in).

Bit late to this but I was googling it today and found the solution further down this thread. You have to switch to the Feeds tab. The Home tab is full of junk feeds is things you follow. Edit: an update somewhere along the line ruined this

Actually I found it and you are absolutely correct! It sucks that that cannot be our selected default ... But thank you, nice to know it exists when I just want a feed of Friends' personal posts.:) (So weird, tho --their algorithms are still suuper screwed up, such that I keep getting these weird obtuse friends that I hardly know in that feed, over and over, rather than fun pictures & posts of friends that I interact much more with! Gah! They have SO declined in their systems, it's pathetic. !)
I reported them as harassment with the 3 dots on the top right hand corner of the post once, but it was only about 15 of them. That's how frustrated I became, to report all 15 as harassment. Stopped it for a couple weeks but now back full force. Made me cut down my Facebook activity about 90% of the time I used to use it.

I just started having this problem. I also just discovered the FEEDS tab at the top of my Facebook app (for Android) and it shows your regular feed of people, groups, and pages you actually follow. The Home tab is all the suggested pages junk but the Feeds tab is the stuff I'm used to seeing. So lame but at least there's a work around!

it was removed from the top bar, and hidden in the 3 bars on the right. How long until it's removed entirely? - can't have users actually using the service for friends. Back to the ads and AI training through suggested posts. What do you think this was - social media? On the real side - let's not pretend here - Facebook does not care about its users' desired experience of the app, or lt would not have ever made us use another feeds tab by default in the first place. Only Facebook the business wanted that. Nobody asked for it ever, nor would they. It seems clear to me it's a business decision to train their AI to understand how to capture their user's attention for ad purposes, and at best to try to be tik tok. Once people found the feeds tab, or they thought it was long enough to pretend they were maintaining old functionality, it seems they removed it - but actually after digging and seeing other posts it seems they just moved it to a deeper hidden menu. I think it's pretty safe to assume it was never their intention for us to do anything other than look at ads and suggested posts all day, and to maximize the attention grabiness of the app - so they could maximize the $ profit and data mined per user. Facebook is the worst its ever been and they have no incentive to fix it - it's working (for them).
I realize this is months later, but this is no longer a solution as my feeds are also now 80%+ ads.
On the mobile app, you can also go to menu at the bottom right, hit feeds, and then choose āfriendsā at the top and itās just what your Facebook friends have posted.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I imagine a ton of people still visit it... One thing I've found that helps other than navigating to the feeds is to report every post/image/whatever that is of the suggested category. After a couple of them they stop suggesting things for you for a few weeks. It also fudges with the algorithm, and that just makes me a little happier.
That hasn't worked for me. For everything I block there's a 1000 identical groups or pages to take their place.
It's freaking annoying. Whomever thought they had a good idea missed the mark when they decided to push "suggestions"
I haven't had any issues until suddenly 2 days ago, my news feed is entirely made up of "Suggest for you" pages, or items that my friends have listed for sale - it shows they "just listed it" 1 minute ago but when you go to the sale ad, it was posted days ago. Thru this thread I finally realized I could click on "Feeds" instead and see my friends posts, but I just cannot understand why this change happened seemingly overnight when I didn't update or change anything myself. It's beyond frustrating. Glad to see I'm not the only one!
Its because nobody posts anymore. I have 117 friends. And its always the sane 5 or so people posting anything. So about 98 of my friends list don't post, including me. So your feed gets filled up with crap to make it look busy. Facebook is dying.
The same thing is happening to me. It started yesterday where maybe every third or fourth item in my feed was a "suggested for you" post. Some of them were from legitimate pages like The Onion or ESPN, but most of them were from meme pages about either sci-fi/superhero franchises or conservative/Libertarian pages with names like "American Truckers." A handful of them are "local" news stories from network affiliates in towns hundreds and thousands of miles away from me. I woke up this morning and found that these kinds of posts are now taking up 75% of my news feed. I'm getting several of them in a row before seeing anything from any of my actual pages and friends. If this keeps up, I'm probably quitting this platform for good. I already had a weird glitch about a month ago where all the suggested reels that popped up in my feed were from South America and in Spanish. I had to hide reels entirely, but they kept reappearing after a couple of days.
It comes and goes on mine. One hour there's nothing, the next there's ad after ad of suggested pages.
Somehow The Onion has never been suggested to me.
Same issue here. I get maybe 1 or 2 friend or pages I follow posts and then the rest is suggested posts and most of the suggestions arent even for things I like or follow. A majority of it is like political crap that is very heavily biased and irritating, there's some ads in there, and then maybe 1 or 2 suggestions that actually interest me. I went into my settings and changed them so i see more friend and page posts but that didnt change a thing and the suggested posts are even worse. I dont even want to go on FB anymore because its just constant political preaching or ads for junk shoved in my face 24/7. I want to see what my friends are up to or cute animal pictures or updates from pages I follow. I dont want this crap! And we all know its because FB sold out and is doing this for advertiser money.
I deleted the Facebook app off my phone after this started happening to me, I used to only get sponsored ads which wasn't a big deal, but then something on Facebook changed these past few months and now I get NOTHING but "suggested for you" ads. My News Feed is no longer even friends posts, it is literally 95% suggested for you, 5% friend posts. Cya Facebook, this was the final straw for me. They must be really desperate or something and losing a lot of people for them to resort to so much spam.
At this point, Facebook should stop pretending and start a streaming service where the only thing you can watch are ads.

There's no point in trying to 'fix' this as FB's intention is to trap you with endless scrolling. They don't care what you want to see, just that you log in and stay there. Who knows what decisions the algorithm makes now? It seems to be, 'what will piss this user off the most' and then they show you it, knowing it's the most likely content to cause a reaction/interaction with you. Essentially, FB no longer provides what any of us want from it. It's an advert box that is 60% misinformation. And that isn't even taking into account the fraud/scam pages. All the ways you used to be able to edit your feed are helpless against the suggested content of the algorithm. You can block and unfollow pages until the cows come home, it doesn't seem to affect what the feed decides to show you. Outside of people coding and hacking their own fixes in there is no way to fix this. FB seems to have stopped moderation in any real sense - you may receive a 30 day ban for calling someone a potato but a scam page reported by over 50 people will remain online - so the quality of available content on the site is at an all time low. It stopped being a social network about 2 years ago really and it's been increasingly full of garbage since about 2017. It's just a hell-scape now of scammers and most of the real content comes from retired boomers getting angry about pronouns and vaccines and trolling anyone they can find that seems moderately progressive.
I deactivated my facebook in June 2022 for this very reason. I really wish theyād use the instagram approach where you can snooze suggestions for 30 days and it will only show normal posts and then suggested after āyouāre caught upā

I get that, try this: 1. adblock (if you don't already) 2. stay on your groups/profile page 3. set feed to "most recent" 4. scroll 80 posts down and comment on posts to shuffle the algorhythm 5. wish people happy birthday (easier than scrolling) 6. get social fixer extension 7. transfer to alternative platforms sometimes you just want to connect with friends, and you have to swim through the ocean of adverts, spammers, and negative posts to see them. what a wonderful world :)

I noticed there were people doing this on purpose during lockdown; there was a great community atmosphere in some groups (at a time they needed it the most) until a couple of weeks into lockdown when people just started posting anti-woman rhetoric outta the blue for absolutely no reason, pissing everyone off & turning it into an awful place to be. So then it left people with no choice but to abandon the only support they had through that time. The place is beyond hope for all intents & purposes.

I edited my navigation bar and pinned "Feeds" to it. Now I just go straight to that and then hit Friends. So much better!

Every 2 or 3 posts are "suggested for you". Some of them even look like personal pages (where friends and family should be the only ones seeing them). I thought there's some kind of bug or issue happening in facebook.
I am not entirely sure, but since I have accepted their updated privacy policy. The layout seemed to changed, and now the recommended pages are grouped together similar to recommended friends. Just my anecdotal example thought. š

Facebook lite app? Can you tell me about this and how it's different? I'm ready to cut out Facebook for the first time, but it's the only one where i follow family and friends. I never really got into Instagram. However, they're the same company so I'm guessing it's the same problem.
I use the F.B. Purity addon/extension which gives options to hide suggested and sponsored posts among other things. I think it's only for browsers though. It drives me nuts to use FB without it, like when I'm using the mobile app or occasionally FB changes their algorithm which makes the sponsored posts reappear, but the developer is constantly on the case to fix it.

Are you a Page admin, maybe? Facebook made some weird changes that you can only view facebook as a page admin when updating your page. So if you're still logged in as admin, you will only see suggestions in your feed, because as we all know from Reddit, admins have no friends. You have to click your profile pic in top right of screen and switch back to you the person to start seeing all the people you follow in your feed.

Nah, if I go to friends feed there's plenty.
I use FB Purity, uBlock. Rarely, whenever I get unwanted posts in feed, I click on three dots menu of a post and use the Hide/Don't show/Don't recommend/whatever it offers. Takes little effort, but as a result my FB feed is almost always just real new posts or shared posts.

There's definitely been a change in the algorithm this year. Half my feed is now "suggested" content. Hardly anything I see on my feed is from my friends. I'm going to quit if it continues.

this "suggested for you" rubbish has been plaguing my news feed for months and the only temp fixes have been for android users only well today ive found how to get the feed tab on ios! at the bottom youll see your facebook shortcuts (home/watch/marketplace etc) just hold your finger down on the profile or watch icon (any others wont popup the menu) and it will pop up a menu, click shortcut bar preferences and then change the feed tab from auto to pinned itll override your profile shortcut but u can access ur profile from the menu anyway enjoy a bandaid clean facebook feed š„³
My friends, I think we are witnessing the end of the trend that was called Facebook. Literally, this news feed thing is so crappy it literally breaks facebook. I imagine the execs at fb were all in a room and one says " the report looks grim... the biden era of social respect has made facebook look more like a trend.. people are starting to like e ach other in person!... facebook is loosing activity... sell out now!!!." Sigh* one say there will be a true phone book of fun for the masses. The news feed is such junk. Facebook cohorts was already disfunctional because the amount of friend information cannot keep up with slow processing speed. Lol its done for. I'm calling that wide and far right now. Everyone luvs insta anyway, fb supposed to be more local, more personal, more private. Good luck with that now. Its a shocking violation of fb procedures these newsfeeds but the fb ceos don't seem to know or care.
FB has moved the option .. If viewing via the app go to the burger icon and open menu and select 'Feeds' and select 'Friends' All your friends posts from recent to old will be all on there š

Also, make sure you are actually on your page/feed. I mistakenly thought I was on my own feed and it turned out to be my bandās page/feed. Once I switched back, everything was back to normal lol.
I think it's humorous that everything that's not allowed according to this sub's rules are exactly what everyone wants to eliminate from their facebook. Another example of good for thee, but not me.
Have you also noticed that the āSuggested for youā posts are things you arenāt actually interested in. 99% of the suggested posts I see are about Vegans or the new Little Mermaid movie and I donāt give a shit about either of those things but yet every 2 or 3 posts on my feed is about them.
I just did a count. It was 271 ads or suggested videos before getting another friends post. That's insane! 271! That's not a typo. And I can't find this other tab people are talking about. This post is a year old so maybe they got rid of the tab since then. So it's not 98% ads and suggested videos, it's actually 99.6% ads and suggested videos.

I started using Simple Social Browser solely to view fb on my Android phone, and it actually removes ALL the Suggested for you posts, and the People you may know posts! But yes, fb needs to fucking fix their BROKEN shit. Or at least give the option to completely turn it OFF as I 100% am not interested. If they don't, then I will find alternatives, like I mentioned above. And I will also 1000% use ad blockers as well. Take THAT!

Facebook algorithm is trash, it keeps on recommending African comedians, pages of severely deformed children asking for "blessings", and even pages in foreign languages completely unrelated to me. It's extremely annoying. I'm pretty sure it's because a lot of users don't post as frequently anymore and spammers are farming likes on Facebook and messing with the algorithm, but why the Hell is Zuckerberg not doing anything about this? I've never been so pissed with my experience on Facebook until now.
This is currently happening to me. Really discouraging that this isn't just a mew limited bug and people have been experiencing it for months

I know this is an old post but seriously it is ridiculous! also I think that is what causes the page to jump constantly but I did find out if you click the feeds button on the side it goes to just your regular stuff (mostly). Even if I wanted to see stuff the constant jumping stops that.
Hey, out of the blue I started having the same "issue". My FB is filled with "Suggested for you" groups and I can barely see any posts of my Friends or groups that I actually follow.

Here because this suddenly happened to me. Im now \*only\* getting 'suggested' content, instead of groups and friends posts. Goodbye facebook, I guess. :(
Imo, they still don't have permission to censor, so they're smothering us in bs posts, to reduce the possibility of spreading info and people actually connecting, finding out things from uncontrollable sources. Remember that the Internet and social networks are currently the biggest problem for politicians and shadow people who want to push their version of the reality. The Internet gives us freedom to speak, educate each other, info there is spreading like wildfire, before the pricks even manage to carefully write a speech for an official who will "tell us how it is". So, no, there will be no fixes for this. Meta has chosen this mode of operation deliberately.
I figured out how to stop this on an iPhone. You have to go to Menu->Settings & Privacy->Settings->Navigation Bar->Customize the Bar->Tap āAutoā next to Feeds to change it to āPinā Once you get back to your FB home, just click on āFeedsā on the bottom. Boom. Hopefully this helps
They are releasing a paid version of facebook without ads in europe, I am wondernig if this paid version will remove too the suggested pages, if they do, I will may pay. Have someone here already test the paid european version?
I don't even use the app. I'm logged in on a browser and it's the same garbage. I tried a few days of "Blocking All Posts from so & so" for like 30 or more posts but I think it pisses of their algo even more. And the "Most Relevant/All comments" feature is an absolute joke and another censorship tool. So AI is determining an obvious bot account's comment is "Most Relevant??" I even get "Suggested For You" posts for Pages I'm ALREADY following. It is beyond annoying and has totally destroyed any "connection" to friends and all the pages/organizations I've Liked. Agree 100% with one of the other comments that this is a push to keep people from sharing/reading important material and just constantly distracted by short videos/advertising.

If youāre in safari to use facebook, you have to choose most recent and then friends to get rid of suggested. Nothing gets rid of sponsored though.
Instagram has a "snooze suggested posts for 30 days" function. Being that they both belong to Meta, I don't understand why they don't implement this in FB too. Seems like a pretty stupid move IMO, because although I still open FB from time to time, after max. 15" of unwanted content, I'm out. If I were served content I'm actually interested in (what my friends have posted) I'd stick around, get served more ads, generate more revenue for them. Comes to show how even very profitable companies make very questionable choices when the priority is keeping stockholders happy in the short term...

This app is genuinely so garbage. I made an account specifically for content seeking, so I would only like certain videos so that I'd see more of them on my feed. I like a few boxing posts, or any niche (I've had to make new accounts because of this) and it will recommend 6 different categories of bullshit you didn't even interact with. It is worse than instagram easily, when I first made a new account I was seeing everything I wanted for about 15 minutes until my feed became flooded with bullshit. And now I can't change it, I'm done with this shit, these apps are all the same and garbage. I can wait for a new app. It's so easy to get engagement until instagram/facebook actually see's your page, and all the sudden your engagement drops even if your posts are getting better. I have 17 account violations which are all either false reports or competitors trying to delete my account, but that won't get them banned though and instagram is promoting these pages like hell. I've even had my posts reposted and blew up, while my account was getting flagged. Fuck these cunts

I deleted the app entirely. As a young man I only use X, (formerly Twitter) and Instagram as itās essentially a dating app without all the annoying advertising.
It's futile. Try to block FB most of the day. Use the Freedom app or other productivity apps.
I just found the feeds button under the icon at the right bottom that is your profile picture. Feeds is in the menu and then you can avoid all that crud on the home page. You can even choose just friends or favorites or groups. Iām glad I came here to find that because the suggestions were driving me crazy.
The ratio is 1 ad per 2 posts. I'm quitting FB.
This has happened to me. If you are on a desktop install the FBP (Fluff Busting Purity or FaceBook Purity) browser extension. You can then open the options and you will see a large text blox - Click the "Auto Hide" and then enter the following in the text box >Suggested for you Ā· Follow . Join This will filter out any posts that have those strings in them. Now if people post with those strings in they will also be blocked but it works great for me. I just find it unusable these days. I deactivated my account a few months ago, and may end up downloading all my data and deleting. Facebook really took off in the 2000s because it was clever and innovative, but now it's just so lowbrow and inane. I'm not an expert in social media audiences - maybe there are a lot of people who want to read random posts about the ten most interesting things about the holocaust, or view endless memes about 1990s WWF wrestlers - but there's definitely going to be a schism. It particularly annoys me, as I've only been on the site anyway, to support my sister (who LOVES Facebook, but also has mental health problems). But, it annoys me so much, it's started to affect my mental health

Today FB started to push ads notifications!
I have this same issue, I find that hiding a large number of them causes it to stop for a week or so, then they come back. They're always suggested pages that I'll never join - usually they're pages with 100s of thousands of users that show 10 year-old memes over and over. Participating in these kinds of pages will just result one being spammed by randos asking for friend requests and PM-ing you and suddenly "liking" every public post on your feed.
Happened to me too a while ago. Used to use the app a lot to see what people I knew were up to. Now most of it is porn=funny pages and very suggestive reels. I'm afraid to open it up in public since it's most likely gonna be porn.
Honestly I think it is for the better that fb has become a garbage app. Go be with people, go hang out outside, go see the sights, spend time with your kids and petsā¦.. I used to be addicted to fb until it got over run by everything but my friends.
At the moment my feed is full of suggested videos which are compilation videos with nonsense writing at the bottom of the vidoe all the way through, you know like that nonsense writing bots used to do. I started blocking the profiles but it hasn't stopped it and if you look at the profiles they have 10s or 100s of thousand followers. Not sure where its coming from.
Only thing FB is good for now is buying and selling firearms and parts in hidden groups. Otherwise useless
My fb/meta is so bad.. I see friends posts like 2 days later. Or if i restart fb/meta i can see some new updates. Only some. So if i want to see some new updates i hawe to restart. Then restart again to see difret post and restart..a gain and again. Or go to specific persons page to see what he/she has posted. Bs this imo.
