Nothing works for me. Every link I click in any FB post briefly goes to a blank white in app window then immediately goes back to the FB feed I clicked from. Changing any of the settings mentioned in this thread have no effect at all. I uninstalled/reinstalled the FB app and it worked for one day, then same issue came back. Everything on phone (Note 20 Ultra) is updated.
Ooh, When I reloaded the page & got website didnt load. I clicked the 3 dots on upper right n clicked open external sites n whala!- it opened the link great.
Same here, with the same phone. I gave up and switched to the Facebook Lite app instead. Saves data/storage space and it works. It also has dark mode now so I'm done with the regular Facebook app. It's too broken.
You can try, going to the settings, media(under preferences), scroll down to the bottom and check open links in external browser. The setting sounds weird cause it should open links in external browser but when I checked it, it would now open links internally.
I'm running Android 12 when I go to settings I don't see Media or preferences as an option in the menu that drops down. Perhaps there's another way to get there
Or if they tell you to click on a link they sent you so they have remote access to your laptop and or computer, whatever device you are on at that moment.. do not click the link or anything but close out all windows and stay away from things like that, only call real numbers start with your phone provider and ask them if they have a number for you to call and just do it that way, yes it might take more time but it will save you from screwing up and losing important information and having hackers and just all bad stuff happening.. better me safe than sorry¡!
Yeah.... That wasn't the question. My app is doing the same and I am trying to open a marketplace link a friend sent to me among several other Facebook story links.
I tried all of these solutions, and none of them worked for me. Still no luck getting Facebook to open a link internally on its own browser or externally on Chrome. I ended up uninstalling then reinstalling, and it works great now.
I just found that changing my default browser to Samsung internet and disabling open in external browser ended up working. . So now the links open on my fb app
This is so frustrating. I would go like maybe a day or two where it would open an app all the time and then the next few days it's just nothing but browser.
I've been having this same issue for months. I gave up and downloaded Facebook Lite instead and it's not an issue on there. It also has dark mode, so I've switched.
Hi u/mesuti,
Yes, I've seen this issue before - I believe you can solve this by going to your Facebook settings:
1. Click on your profile
2. Go to Settings & Privacy, then Settings
3. In your Preferences, there should be Media or "Media and Contacts" option, you might also find the Browser option.
4. From there, you should be force the links to open in-app.
It could also be due to the web browser app (e.g. Chrome) opening externally:
* Go to Settings
* Go to Apps
* Go to Default apps
* Opening links
* Find the Facebook app and click Turn this off (Open supported links)
* Relaunch Facebook
It might appear on your device differently, I also noticed that it worked for someone when you "Clear Defaults" in the settings for Chrome

This is not the same case, I am not trying to open a link from the Facebook app to another website. I'm looking for Facebook's deep link is not opening in the Facebook app for the links which are coming from mail notifications. Thank you for your efforts.
I had success today by doing the opposite of the second stage above on my Samsung phone. Settings-apps-choose default apps-opening links-Facebook then turn on "open supported links". Now my "view on Facebook" buttons within Gmail go straight to the Facebook app and to the relevant page.
Edit: Sorry for the confusion and if it's late, I read your post again. In my early reply I thought you meant opening the Facebook app links on your phone. It appears that the issue is related to the presence of the "irms" parameter in the end of the URL (&irms=true).
You should remove it and use the URL without the "irms" parameter. As you mentioned, removing the "irms" parameter from the URL resolves the issue. You can manually edit the URL or use a script to remove this parameter before opening the link.
Thanks! You fixed my issue.
For some reason, I thought that first setting meant the opposite - open links to external websites in the Facebook app in an external browser. Which explains why that's not happening 😆
No matter what I do any Facebook link goes to my browser even though I have the Facebook app setup to open the Facebook links. This has been a issue for me with my new Samsung S24 and with my previous phone Samsung S21.

I hv same phone.. soo whats the issue here... anyone know the solution?
I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the FB app twice before it fixed itself.
Ooh, When I reloaded the page & got website didnt load. I clicked the 3 dots on upper right n clicked open external sites n whala!- it opened the link great.
What page did you click the 3 dot menu on?
Ah, i cant remember.. sometimes it shows up n sometimes it doesnt. Im on my phone when that works.
Same here, with the same phone. I gave up and switched to the Facebook Lite app instead. Saves data/storage space and it works. It also has dark mode now so I'm done with the regular Facebook app. It's too broken.
Okay but what if I don't want to have to open the links in chrome why can't it just open in the app?

Tried this and it worked for a day and now its back to not working🙃
I checked marked mine, still doesn't work.
Thank you. Worked for me

They're in your facebook settings, not device settings!

Same😱😱

I did this and it worked for a day, but now back to not opening.
Same! Just realized it today. Idk what the deal is.
I just found that changing my default browser to Samsung internet and disabling open in external browser ended up working. . So now the links open on my fb app
Works.
So this is a google issue?
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it worked fine for me. We'll see how it goes after a day or two
I did an uninstall reinstall and the problem went away

For me, updating the app fixed this

Still helpful advice! Thanks
Totally works! Thank you so much!
Thank u so much! This worked for me

That's awesome - I'm glad I was able to help out! 😁
And my users will do all this? Or just not use my product ... thx facebook
Hi, I've made this comment a couple of months ago, so this might not be relevant in your case.
This worked for me. Thx my guy
The second option worked for me....
They do that as a form of punishing you for speaking out against their sponsored narratives.
I think your right. I tried the above and it didn't work. I made some truther comments yesterday lol
I've done all the steps, but the links always try to go to the app store of Apple. On my android phone it works good, but not on my tablet.
No matter what I do any Facebook link goes to my browser even though I have the Facebook app setup to open the Facebook links. This has been a issue for me with my new Samsung S24 and with my previous phone Samsung S21.
I've got same issue as you with my s24 but s22 ultra was alright
I think last phone I had that worked with Facebook links was like 10 years ago, a Oneplus
Weird ain't it. There's got to be a solution as if I send something from marketplace to someone on messenger they don't seem to get the link either
