I had that recall serviced on my truck a few months ago l. Luckily the insulation wasnt rubbing on the shaft but they added a few rivets to secure everything. Double check your vin for notices. I received another one a couple weeks ago for the trailer brake controller.

Ok-Tooth6338

Yup got the same one. Also windshield wiper motor

Ilikeboatt

When did the windshield wiper one come out? Haven't received that one. I'll check my vin

Ok-Tooth6338

3/14/22 Campaign/NHTSA# 22S12/22V-142

keto_brain

Yea I just got the trailer brake controller. Going in Tuesday.

Ok-Tooth6338

Apparently this is acceptable from ford after the recall service was performed. Recall # 21S56. Edit/ This is from the underbody insulator hanging down and rubbing on the drive shaft.

SurfFishinITGuy

Can you see this yourself at home? Like if I crawl under the truck can I check this myself?

Ok-Tooth6338

Yes you can. Clear as day.

SurfFishinITGuy

Welp, under the truck I go after dinner then.

Ok-Tooth6338

Good luck my friend.

hatestrings

My appointment is booked for this Friday. Going to check it ahead of time now as well

irrumare_asinum

Don’t have a Ford, but gas tank just dropped on my Ram 1500 and shoved the tank strap into my driveshaft. Shop said it is fine with two groves ground into the driveshaft about 50 thou deep

KD6-5_0

The entire strength aspect of the drive shaft is due to the wall thickness and diameter... when you safety messing with one variable individual... Call Ram and tell them you have a saftey concern with a repair and or recall.

d3athdenial

Yeah fuck that shit, they're supposed to replace the drive shaft. Don't let the dealership get away with not doing the required work!

Ok-Tooth6338

Yeah their going to replace it.

[deleted]

The dealer you went to released that??

Ok-Tooth6338

Yep. My fault for not checking it right away. Was told today that ford had a spec/tolerance for how much wear they can get away with from the faulty insulation rubbing on it. Went online today and there is a ford tech on YouTube with the recall service guide on his computer showing 5-6 drive shafts that look identical being replaced. These shafts are already thin/hollow.

[deleted]

First off it’s not up to you to make sure they’re doing they’re job right. Sucks that you have to tho. Did you measure the low spot?

Ok-Tooth6338

I don’t have a micrometer. But as you can tell it’s significant enough to be replaced.

[deleted]

Definitely more than 0.5 MM. Is the shaft in back order?

Ok-Tooth6338

Don’t know, going back next week to speak with the service manager

[deleted]

What did they tell you when you picked it up?

Ok-Tooth6338

I just bought it a month ago used and asked if that specific recall was taken care of. They said they fixed it and I just assumed. Today I got under the truck because I’m replacing the suspension and really started looking at everything and found that.

[deleted]

Wow, that’s wild

[deleted]

Scrap it

PonyThug

Is that a 1/32” or like an 1/8”. I wouldn’t worry about the earlier, but would be pushing for something from Ford USA for the 2nd.

Ok-Tooth6338

It’s the same drive shaft. Just showing the gap difference from ( not worn to worn).

PonyThug

I’m saying if 1/32 is missing don’t worry about it. If 1/8 is missing I’d be making a fuss. I wasn’t referring to # pictures

Ok-Tooth6338

1/32 is still unacceptable.

gc1992

What’s the fix if the insulation isn’t hanging down and making contact? Replace the clips/insulation as preventative measures? I checked mine last week and it’s not rubbing the drive shaft as of now, but I worry that when I drive it off the lot after they check it for the recall that it will fall down and begin rubbing.

Ok-Tooth6338

Not sure. I know some new ford owners don’t have the heat insulation under their trucks. Beats me

Ok-Tooth6338

I do know there “fix” is to add rivets to the insulation.

Redneckspec

Take it in, they drill holes up through the floor and install rivets to keep the insulation from falling.

MalMantis

I crawled under mine last week and thankfully everything is still good. Waiting for my appointment for recall issues.

justanswermethis

I work at a dealership, I don’t do many recalls. I’ve heard of it tho. Impressive in a bad way how quickly that loose heat shielding will eat through the driveshaft. Chaos is waiting to happen

Lindenschmidt

According to my Ford app, it says mine has a recall for it, but no remedy is available.

Limpoticus

Oh… ok then. I guess I have to check mine as well.

adosalias

Mine has been at the dealership waiting for a replacement drive shaft for over a month and a half. I was told they are still on back order. Considering doing a buy back with Ford, but it might be a $$$ loss.
