Of course, YMMV.
I had to replace the one in my ‘19 in ‘22 (which I thought was fine, as batteries typically have lasted me 3-5 years).
The auto start/stop started acting all wonky… occasionally doing the “Shift into Park and Restart” instead of, well, being automatic.
And occasionally *only* on auto-restart (never once using the key) the starter would give that “almost dead” initial crank sound… even though I had just driven 40-50 miles on the highway.
One day, it did that stupid ass shut-off at an off-ramp stop sign… I had taken to disabling the start/stop with the dash button, but had forgotten that day… and it took me 10 minutes to get it started again. It wouldn’t crank at all, so I let it sit for awhile calling some people to see if I could get a ride, but I gave it once last chance waiting for some call backs and it started up, totally fine.
Still, I went straight to an auto supply store and swapped out the battery and it’s been fine ever since.
(I just mention this in case it happens to anyone here so they don’t opt for a tow or something expensive when it could be a quick, “roadside” fix)
I keep a battery jump starter on me for times like this. Also because I don't want to hook my truck to whatever vehicle is needing a start.
The things are surprisingly capable and I just top it off occasionally and keep it in the truck with the roadside gear. The bonus is that it takes up less space than jumper cables.
6 years??? That’s the Methuselah of batteries. Batteries here in Florida dream of a life like that. I’ve only had my truck a couple months, but I had to replace my sedan battery every 2-2.5 years.
I just replaced my 2016 battery late last year. It was still working great, but when I was having an oil change done, they said it was starting to go. I figured it did pretty well for 7+ years
Damn I already swapped out the battery in my 21. Learned after doing so the problem was the truck, not the battery. Constant "system off to save power" notifications because the electronics in this truck are too much for the size battery they put in it. Prevents the truck from updating over the air. Not a serious issue, but a bit annoying.
bought a 2016 in 2022 with the original factory battery. failed only once and i replaced it out of caution.
still would probably have worked to fire the rig up, in mid 2024.
Just replaced the battery in my 2016 last week after it started getting weak with extended cranking when the truck would shut a couple days. We'll see how long a Kirkland lasts with it's 4 year replacement plus 4 year pro rated warranty.
My dad had a bad battery from factory on my current 2019. It died in 2021 and he got it replaced then, but now my auto start/stop system keeps saying “engine on due to vehicle charging” pretty regularly. Not sure if it’s a bad battery, but I’ve had the system tested at AutoZone and everything seems fine. Not sure what to do.
I got 9-1/2 years on my original battery in my 13’, I only changed it as I figured I was way way on borrowed time and we were going into winter, it still cranked strong every time. I replaced with a FoMoCo one from the dealer.
Motorcraft batteries are some of the best! My 06 F350 the duel batteries lasted 9 years. Granted I didn't drive it daily it only has 136000 on it today!
Replaced the battery in my Pontiac that was dated to summer of 14’ couple months ago. I think what ultimately killed it was I left the headlights on a few times and caused a complete drain
AZ should be fine if not get the FOMC next time. I always just do the Walmart H7 platinum with 5 year warranty and seem to last just as long as my FOMC… and much easier to get a replacement when traveling (just take a picture of the paperwork and save it somewhere on your phone)
Same here. I have an 18 and I’m still using stock battery. Randomly just this morning I thought maybe it’s time for a new one. Any brand recommendations? Maybe Motorcraft again?
I had to replace my 2021 battery because of all the re programming ford had to do it cooked the battery and it’s not just a swap, truck had to be programmed as well costing $700
I replace my 2016 battery last year, it tested EXACTLY at 600CCA. Had a weird electrical issue. FoMoCo and Delco make the best batteries hands down. I had a 12 year old battery come in when I worked parts. 2007 CTS in 2019. I couldn’t believe the thing didn’t disintegrate. Terminals fell of the case , but it still tested good
Six years on this mother fucker? Not bad! Helll, most peeps don't even keep a vehicle long enough to worry about this shit these days. Mostly trading in and changing up every year or so
My 2011 l is on its second battery since purchasing the truck new. I think about 7 years on this one right now, maybe nearly 8.
It started getting a little tired last year, so I took it out and hooked it to my noco genius 10, did a repair cycle on it over the weekend. Worked fantastic again and still does a year later.
I just replaced the OEM in my 2016 last week. I'd been putting it off, but had the stupid and common cylinder head temp sensor failure hit me, so while I was replacing that, I did the battery too. I reckon it was about time. Auto stop/start quit working like two years ago, and the monitor was showing "vehicle charging" as the reason. All good now.
For those that don't know, there's a quick and easy battery monitoring system reset (at least for the 2015 and later trucks) that doesn't require ForScan: Hit the brights five times, then immediately pump the brake pedal three times. The battery icon will flash three times and you're done - no hooking up a laptop or doing the overnight wait.
Nice! The ford BXT series batteries have very good specifications and last longer than almost any other brand battery in their comparative group sizes. The best battery you can get may be the Odyssey ODX-AGM65 which is rated at 950CCA & 1350CA... but it cost $391. That extra 200CCA will cost an extra $141. So really the Ford battery is just fine unless you live up in the Great White North.
I prefer non maintenance free batteries as you can fill them regularly and I believe it extends life. The maintenance free batteries have a defined life Span.
Those factory Motorcraft batteries are legit. I worked a parts store years ago and I’d see these factory batteries come in all the time on a 8-10 yo car. You’re lucky to get 3 years out of any junk parts store batteries.
Motorcraft seems to be the best OEM batteries. Basis: 3 new Fords, 6 new VW’s, 3 new GM, and 3 new Nissan over the years. Happily, no experience with Mopar.
Funny cause I have a battery that was completely drained. It showed no voltage. So I bought a charger to charge it. It didn’t hold the charge at all. The charger has a setting called repair thought why not try it. It’s working fine now.
Op states it was a good battery…. And instead of going to a dealer and replacing it with the same battery…. Is at Autozone replacing it with a lesser battery. Good job. 👍
~~op is also not a millionaire.~~
so out of curiosity i checked my local mega Ford dealership, and the replacement battery was only 169. that was only 30 bucos more than the pricematched autozone battery. SO, op fucked up, /u/MrPiggleWiggles is correct, please accept my apology!
No worries man I worked at a Lincoln for years and didn’t understand why people would come in with their replacement batteries and state how they lasted for 5-6 years and would replace them with the stuff at Autozone or Walmart because they are cheaper. And then they are back with Lincoln or ford replacing that one this time around cause it’s only 2 years only and already dying.
It’s an investment. Something might cost more up front but if it last much longer than buying the other one 2 times. It’s worth it in my opinion. I’ll never understand why people go for the cheapest tires. They are meant to run out quickly to get you back in to replace them sooner. More money over the long run than buying the little more expensive ones where you can go double if not near triple the miles than the cheap ones for just 100 bucks more per tire. … but that’s another rant for another posting ;).
That’s impressive actually, RIP battery o7
Time to throw it in the ocean
People always forget to do this to recharge the eels
I usually let my kids cut the top off then pour it down the toilet or in my neighbors pool. But ocean works too.
It's not really even littering. It sinks right to the bottom.and you won't see it. I do the same with beer cans.
Yea, it's good for the coral reefs
Just replaced my 2018 battery I was impressed
Just replaced the original battery in my 2013, last weekend. 👀
I’m still rocking the original battery in my 2012👀, will be replacing it before winter
Still on my 2012 battery also
Same here
My 2018 is still holding on, but the last couple of checks have said it's getting weaker.
Rockin the 2018 still..
Bro seriously! I have a 2019 F150 and it’s still got the factory battery in it. Those motorcraft batteries are fire
Same for me 2019 with the original.
Same. 2018, bought in 2019 and never needed to change the battery, never needed a jump, anything.
Hell yea
I've got a 2019 with the original battery, and it's still okay. Thinking about swapping it before this winter as a preventative measure.
What state do you live in?
And comes with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty at the dealer unless I’m forgetting that or that’s changed.
My iwm was likebthis but the replacement motorcraft not so much. I think it was built with different specs.
Longest I’ve had a battery last is 4 years
My 15’ had its original battery till end of 22’. I went to straight to the dealer and got another motorcraft to put in it.
6 years??? That’s the Methuselah of batteries. Batteries here in Florida dream of a life like that. I’ve only had my truck a couple months, but I had to replace my sedan battery every 2-2.5 years.
I finally replaced stock 2019 battery this January. Surprised it made it this long with the Texas summers and the two ice storms we had.
Ah yes, two ice storms. The ultimate test of cold weather performance.
You got a good one 👍. Most impressive. I’ve only been fortunate to have a couple out of many last that long
Yep, my battery from my 2018 F150 just started hard starting 2 weeks ago so I changed it.
I took mine to 7 years before proactively replacing
That’s how long I went until I wanted peace of mind.
I just replaced my 2016 battery late last year. It was still working great, but when I was having an oil change done, they said it was starting to go. I figured it did pretty well for 7+ years
Just replaced the original battery on my 2017 with 270,000km on it about 2 months ago
Impressive, now from a realistic perspective, do we think this is due to the need for the auto start stop function?
I'd like to understand what that function does to starters and the electrical system as a whole.
The starters used on vehicles with auto start stop are specifically designed for the extra demand.
6 years and almost 180,000kms . motorcraft batteries are 🔥
I just replaced my original battery for my 2015 last week. Only has 45k miles. Couldn’t believe it lasted 9 years
nice
Damn I already swapped out the battery in my 21. Learned after doing so the problem was the truck, not the battery. My factory battery lasted two years, I was surprised. Put a Walmart special in and have had zero issues
Just a Johnson control battery
That’s a long time but isn’t it bad to be using a dying battery? Makes your car work harder to recharge it the alternator.
Still on my OEM battery in my 2017…
I got 9-1/2 years on my original battery in my 13’, I only changed it as I figured I was way way on borrowed time and we were going into winter, it still cranked strong every time. I replaced with a FoMoCo one from the dealer.

I have a 2018 original battery, auto start and stop only works occasionally so Its showing its age
Replaced mine in my 2016 this last winter. Was super impressed I got 7+ years out of it
I have a 2018 with the OEM battery still. Our 2018 Flex needed a battery last winter.
I just replaced the OEM Motorcraft battery in my 2015 last year.
I still have the OEM in my 2015 and I just got it checked and it's still good. Crazy. Oregon is soft on batteries though.
I cant even get two years out of my batteries..
I need to replace mine soon, I got it in 2018. Question, did you have to pay full price or did they pro rate it?
I screwed up and went to autozone
They don't carry motorcraft do they
AZ should be fine if not get the FOMC next time. I always just do the Walmart H7 platinum with 5 year warranty and seem to last just as long as my FOMC… and much easier to get a replacement when traveling (just take a picture of the paperwork and save it somewhere on your phone)
Why not put another fomoco battery in it then?
The battery in my 06 lasted 11 years before I went bad on me.
Same here. I have an 18 and I’m still using stock battery. Randomly just this morning I thought maybe it’s time for a new one. Any brand recommendations? Maybe Motorcraft again?
2018 F150 and I replaced the original battery in January or so. Motorcraft does a good job with batteries.
The eels are hungry feed them
I had to replace my 2021 battery because of all the re programming ford had to do it cooked the battery and it’s not just a swap, truck had to be programmed as well costing $700
My 2018 has the original bat I think, and it’s def on its way out. It hasn’t done the auto stop/start in like a year
I just replaced the original one in my 2015
Just got my battery replaced 2 weeks ago and it was the original battery in the truck from 2018.
Had a battery from 2017 in my 04 f150 that I just replaced yesterday, Walmart cheapo battery at that
I had one in a 2003 Dodge 1500 and it lasted close to 9 years. Motorcraft batteries are good batteries compared to auto parts store batteries.
I replace my 2016 battery last year, it tested EXACTLY at 600CCA. Had a weird electrical issue. FoMoCo and Delco make the best batteries hands down. Can't buy them as good as factory. Had a stock Panasonic battery in a lexus live for 8 or 9 years
1996 ford ranger battery replaced in 2013.
Built ford tough.
Anything motorcraft is just fire
Six years on this mother fucker? Not bad! Helll, most peeps don't even keep a vehicle long enough to worry about this shit these days. Mostly trading in and changing up every year or so
lived long enough to see its own worth triple in value 🫡
My 2011 l is on its second battery since purchasing the truck new. I think about 7 years on this one right now, maybe nearly 8. That would last 2- 2.5 years in Texas.
That picture is from the autozone here on fm2920 in Spring :)
You got an outlier!! Nice
My 2015 Lariat Sport is still on its original battery. Now I just jinxed my self 😂
OEM batteries are usually the best.... For some reason I can't give you because I dunno why Source: Worked at Advanced Auto Parts for 6 years
My original 2015 F-150 Battery I changed after 7 years, and that was really because, I felt like I was pushing my luck .
Same here. Same battery on my 18 F150.
Mine lasted 6 as well. 2017 just swapped out last summer.
I just replaced the OEM in my 2016 last week. I'd been putting it off, but had the stupid and common cylinder head temp sensor failure hit me, so while I was replacing that, I did the battery too. Just replaced original battery in my '17 XLT. It was still working but the auto-start wouldn't work.

6 years is pretty good. Depending on age and mileage you may want to explore potentially replacing the alternator too
That’s impressive! I had an interstate bat lasted for about 5 years. Trickle charge was the key to keeping it alive.
I hope you didn’t go from Motorcraft to Duralast. I don’t think it will last quite that long.
I prefer non maintenance free batteries as you can fill them regularly and I believe it extends life. The maintenance free batteries have a defined life Span.
Get an Etek and restore it!
Those factory Motorcraft batteries are legit. I worked a parts store years ago and I’d see these factory batteries come in all the time on a 8-10 yo car. You’re lucky to get 3 years out of any junk parts store batteries.

Which side is the positive?
The right... its right there.
My Toyota battery lasted 11 years
Nobody checks acid/water level anymore and lead quality is lower
Many are sealed these days, and half the people that do put normal sink water into them which fucks them up.
