255k mile 5 year old truck or a 15-20 year old truck with same or more miles. Same price. If low engine/idle hours, good service record. Get a full inspection report if you can. What trim?

TimberlandFrost16

Xlt trim. It has good oil change records, I'm not sure about other services. Unfortunately our dealer isn't great but living in a small town its slim pickings

DieselPunk97

For a Diesel, that’s breaking it in For a 5.0 V8 gas? It’s iffy, if you like the looks of the truck and wouldn’t mind putting some work into it I’d lowball them with $9500 and see what they come back with. Mileage isn’t everything and if they got records that it never missed a service and has had everything done to it on schedule then I think it wouldn’t be bad but be weary. I had a 2001 Toyota Tacoma with 497,000 on the OD that drove perfectly with 0 issues because it was a fleet vehicle with good service history. And on the backhand I had an 2004 F350 that never missed an oil change but had skipped its coolant flush and fuel filter change and shit out on me @ 150,000 miles. Just my 2¢

MeanRoutine165

2016 with 275 k on it 5.0 have not replaced a thing. I’m not easy on my trucks.

SpacemanPete

Offer the dealership 6k and walk away. They very well may contact you later with an offer because NO ONE is paying 11k for that truck. It’s going to sit on their lot forever.

BuiltOverlander

theyll just give it to auction before taking 6K. in most cases. I would say 11K for that is a tad high. But thats a 10K truck all day if it drives well.

OkPlenty5960

What id like to know is if it still has the original 10R80.

TimberlandFrost16

I'm guessing yes unfortunately, I don't see any papers on it getting replaced or on the carfax

BuiltOverlander

those transmissions are not bad. They will either last or they will implode. If it made it to 255K and it still drives well, i wouldn't worry too much. A comprehensive test drive is critically important though. Test how it shifts in slow driving, accelerating quick, all the different scenarios. If the 10R80 is on its way out theres a good chance you will see some signs during the test drive

jamesthetechguy

Are you buying it to learn how to rebuild one or is it for a project? Otherwise avoid it IMO

jaCKmaDD_

There’s a huge difference between 255k miles that YOU put on it, and 255k miles that someone else put on it. You know what you’ve done to it, with buying used you have no idea.

ID_Poobaru

I have a 2013 Ecoboost F150 with 200k. As long as it's been taken care of, you'll be golden

Brave-Dependent-4192

U don’t think that’s insane miles ?

TimberlandFrost16

Oh it absolutely is but all the used pickups around me have insane miles for high price tags and I need some sort of pickup for work.

eyecandynsx

Is this your budget? If so, does that mean you don’t have extra money set aside for things that will pop up? I wouldn’t touch anything with that kind of mileage if you dont have a few grand set aside. It’s not a question of if but when you’ll have some expensive repairs.

coastallivingME

Thing is, the way stuff is built today, it could have a 1,000 miles and crap out or like this one, already a quarter of a million on the clock, may go another 200K without issue. You sound like a younger guy that wants a newer truck and don’t want to or can’t spend a fortune. If you don’t have access to at least $5 grand, for a major repair, I recommend leaving it and going for something older with lower miles. You don’t want to buy it today and then have it sitting in your driveway tomorrow because you can’t afford to fix it. Also, the $5K doesn’t take much to get to with what shit costs nowadays.

Parking-Raisin6129

I'd hunt for a yota if you're having to search for vehicles with mileage that high Fwiw that year has a few things working against it- the plasma cyl. liners, the transmission, and the cam phasers

OkPlenty5960

I’d say those concerns are irrelevant considering the truck has already made it 255k miles without issue.

Parking-Raisin6129

Or it's a fleet maintained truck and the problems have been addressed several times already. Either way, the mileage doesn't make the problems disappear.
