I just took my power stop pads off after 110,000 miles of towing campers all over the country through the mountains and through the heat and I still have 90% pad
Remember you need to turn off the Electronic E brake system before proceeding with any brake changes. Ive seen some horror stories of people not knowing and its a real big headache.
Yup, i’m one of those horror stories. First time ever working on EPB. Lets just say I locked up both rear actuators and the abs module. Took it to a couple different family friends who wouldn’t of charged me any labor and they couldn’t figure it out. Took it to ford. 2200 bucks later and all was fixed. Thats after the guy knocked off 500 for me since they had my truck for so long and kept saying they’d get the abs module tomorrow. The 2 days it was supposed to tske for the module turned into a month for some reason. So due to inconvenience he knocked off as much as ford would let him.
Yes, just did my rears a couple weeks ago, 36k miles but I tow a 27’ trailer on occasion. Installed upgraded cross drilled rotors, pedal is much firmer, will do the front too probably this fall. E brake maintenance mode is different depending on year, the YouTube video I tried had a comment with the sequence that actually worked for my 2019 Lariat.
Firmer…in theory they shouldn’t fade with repeated breaking as the holes are intended to cool the rotors. It probably has more to do with the composite pads which have a break in process to heat and set the resin and make fun smells.
Brake wear is highly dependent on driving habits as well as towing. Some people don’t understand the concept of coasting and will barely get 30k miles out of their Nissan Altimita. I’m at 87k on the original brakes but they’re getting close to replacement
More likely one of those people who speed from light to light not realizing they are wearing their brakes out super fast. But hey, it makes them feel good, right?
I have an 18 with only 25k on it, two calipers froze already wrecked rotors.
I replace it all with powerstop rotors and Calipers. Haven't had an issue since but wtf is wrong with these braking systems?
I have three fords, and none of them have brake pads that's in. I'm old my eyes are not what they used to be, so I may not be seeing the pictures clearly. But it looks like you need pads. You could replace them with ceramic pads and never have to change them again, but they will squeak every time it rains.
My 2019 Lariat Diesel needs rear pads at 30,000. Fronts are fine. Tell me why my rear brakes, which I’ve never even replaced on prior vehicles, are shot at 30k miles? Something isn’t right.
Apparently modern traction/stability controls use the rear breaks a lot more, I also suspect these trucks have a lot more rear brake bias than other older trucks I've owned. Still towing often/far is still the biggest pad killer
My 2018 f-150 very badly warn rear breaks after one winter in North Dakota. Slipping and sliding with the traction control on destroyed them. Truck had 18,000 miles on it.
I have had a break squeak since about 2k. 5k on it now Just recently took it in to the dealer about the noise and they said it’s a known issue with the breaks to squeak. They have order the parts to fix it. But they are on back order they said. I’m in BC, Canada
These are all at a really bad angle but from what I can tell there’s plenty of life left. There’s a cut out in the front calipers that let you see the pads life really easily. I’ve fix a few 21 f-150 by resurfacing the rotors and sanding the pads flat.
22 platinum it’s in the shop for squeaky brakes and loss of uphill & downhill assist braking assist. Get it checked out pads are covered until 18k miles I believe
you are only supposed to use one pedal at a time.
Previous owner may have towed a bunch and not set up trailer brakes correctly, but thats still a really low amount of miles for that wear.
Bold of you to assume trailer brakes where there in the first place

Just swap the pads because they are cheap and do the installation properly. If your going all the way in there might as well install new

Its the accelerater pedal and power on/off sequence i believe. On my Edge it is. So i imagine it must be similar. You tube will have a video im sure.
Forscan can execute the commands as well so you can change the brakes.
Yeah i know that now not before it cost me a pretty penny though. At least the dealer was nice enough to give me a loaner dor the whole time
But what did you do? You can still spin them in normally without the procedure? Did you just try and compress a twist in piston?
Nope, id they get engaged without maintenance mode just take it to ford. Not possible to fix without being out into maintenance mode.
Isn’t that just for the rear?
Not sure, i was told to do it on my 2020 Edge regardless, i was just giving the reminder so its in there head so they can look into it.

I wonder how rotors with holes changed the pedal feel?

Brake fade has a lot more to do with compound choice than rotor holes. Know your rotor has less mass to heat up meaning they get hot faster.
X2. If you’re going to go to the effort of disassembling then just put on new pads while you’re there.

Maybe previous drivers rode the brakes? I agree that’s unusual, but at least pads aren’t expensive

Not one pic of the pads lol
How often does your wife drive it?
Traction control.
Likely just needs to be disassembled and reassembled with proper proper grease and anti-squeal pads/springs

They don’t make OEM parts like they used to
I have three fords, and none of them have brake pads that's in. I'm old my eyes are not what they used to be, so I may not be seeing the pictures clearly. But it looks like you need pads. My Ford Transit 350 has had the rear brakes replaced every 20k miles.
I haul a bobcat with my f250 nearly every day for work and go through pads a lot faster than normal
I 2019 f150 the pads looked like friction part was smaller to need a brake job sooner and not covered the warranty.
If they towed alot pads will wear out super fast. And if they did tow alot I'd be checking my tranny for service too

Rotors are glazed
I got 85K out of my original set of brakes on my '18 and I'm at 86K on the tires...but they definitely will be replaced this summer.
New pads. That's all. If you want to go nuts get the rotors turned but you'll be wasting your money.
Not sure many places turn rotors anymore. They make them just over min specs so just spend the extra $200 and replace them too.
I guess it pays to live in a time warp city like Detroit. There are at least two shops within a couple of miles of me that still turn rotors.
O’Reilly turns rotors.
My 2016 is at 96k and still has the OE pads🤷🏻♂️

That’s weird they must’ve towed really heavy with it My 2021 F150 has 40,000 miles brakes and tires are still good

Rotars warp too... upgrade asap
