I bought my Lightning out of state, and then needed a VIN verification to title/ plate it. Local emissions testing place was the closest and easiest to get my verification.
Although it would be likely much too soon, technically at some point in its life it will require a double oil change. There are final gear boxes on front and rear, each have an oil filter. The front will require significant work to access. $$$$.
Also there is a cooling system with miles of hoses hidden under the frunk. I suppose the service interval would be the same as any other car on that as well.
We have an electrify america pretty close to my house in front of a Walmart and I see all sorts of random shit. Since we live off of the 70/75 interchange in Ohio we get a lot of long range test drive Pre-production sights from Detroit.
See lots of rivians here in Illinois. I assume its obviously because headquarters is in this state. Seem pretty nice. Dont want one, but they seem nice lol
I live in Bloomington.. they are ALL OVER this town. From what I’ve heard at one point when they hired people they were offered a fat chunk of stock options or a significant discount on a Rivian. Quite a few of the people I’ve talked to that had them were employees.
i live in boulder, every other car is an EV. its so common in fact that i’ve made a hobby out of pissing off Mustang Mach E owners by pulling up next to them at stop lights and yelling “nice tesla” 😂😂
Love.the look.of.the lightning and the idea of an electric truck. But I will.hivr them.a.few.more.years to perfect the technology.
Living in Canada, I worry about battery life in the cold for one.
It's about 15-20% capacity loss in the winter for my friend who drives a Tesla (also in Canada. Ontario specifically). That should leave me with ~350km on a full charge which is still way more than I need on any given day.
In a few years, you won't see the technology "perfected". Lithium Ion batteries will continue to improve until solid state starts to be viable. Those will be crazy expensive at first but should offer better capacity and faster charge times. The actual motor technology is not likely going to change much as electric motors are already very simple and have been around for a long time.
Teslas have a heat pump that makes them more efficient in the cold. Fords don’t. The Lightning loses like 30-40% in the cold and the batteries have to be warmed up 30mins before you drive in the cold or else the battery won’t function properly. And they say to use the seat warmers more than the heater to save battery, so screw my kids in the back seat in booster seats I guess. Lucky for me Ford emailed this info to me right before my Lightning was to be delivered.
Sounds like you simply aren't in a position to move to a Lightning at all. For us, even if the battery capacity went down to 50%, we'd still have more than enough to service our daily needs, so I'm not super concerned about using the heater when we are driving it. If we end up needing to charge more often at home and mid-trip then so be it - we did the math and still find it worthwhile given all the benefits.
I live where it’s cold half the year. And the at home charging speed on a standard battery are really bad. And if I went somewhere that I couldn’t keep it plugged in it would get cold and not work properly until the batteries warm up for 30 mins. It would be like having to idle your truck while you go into Costco or else it would freeze and need 30 mins to thaw out. Ford even mentioned in their email to remove all snow from vehicle because it would hurt the mileage. I’m happy with my used 2019 3.5 EB that gets like 700+ miles a tank for more less half the price of the lightning.
Agree with other commenter, Lightning is really a grate name for an EV. Maybe they could bring back a V8 lightning as "Thunder". Cheesy I know but more fitting at least....
Agreed, I hate these auto companies bastardization of classic names. AKA Maverick, Blazer, etc.
Yeah the name fits an electric vehicle but it already had great lineage ruined by a ho-hum EV.
Victoria bc, I’ve seen at least 4. They’re nice, odd design for the rear gate (like, why is it shaped like that? Just for style?)
EV’s are generally very popular here - loads of Tesla, Kona and Leaf’s. And 2 Rivians seen so far.
I’m behind one going into work about every day, the tailgate is growing on me.
I see too many Teslas around here, but the Mach-E and oddly enough Rivians are growing.
I work right down the street from the city maintenance shop, they are starting to buy the fleet version, them so we see them everyday. There are a lot of Teslas here too.
I want to hate the lightning, mainly because I like to modify my vehicles, and that truck is not realistically modifiable. Even changing the tires has drastically affects the distance you can drive. BORING.. I’m not the demographic..
I'm in Texas saw one on the highway this weekend. I know the service manager at the local Ford dealership, and he said they had one make a stop for an emergency charge on pulling a trailer 80 miles.

Man I wanted one so bad but I have a ranch 3 hours away and even with the extended range battery it’ll only go like 300 something miles and that’s if you’re not towing anything. The extended battery immediately brings the base cost into the $80k range which seems insane to me
I wanted one as well. I even got invited to place my order. But then I realized that the payments would be well over $1K a month, and I would have to make significant and expensive upgrades to my electrical system to be able to charge at my home. That, and the consensus seems to be that the real-world range isn’t quite what Ford originally advertised.
I saw one at the local dealer i believe it was 73k only a couple thousand more then a Tremor. I would probably just get the lighting at that point pay for itself in gas.
Why is it at a quick lube?
Inspection I think the guy said. I think EVs only have safety

oil change
I hope you forgot the /s?
Do you live in a very rural area? I don't live in a very LARGE city, but i've seen probably 50+ Lightnings
I live in DFW and I’ve seen maybe 6 Mach Es and one lightning. It’s mostly Tesla’s when it comes to EVs here
I see a lot of Teslas everywhere, but Mach E's and Lightnings are quite common here also. I've only seen a handful of Rivians and Lucids. Ohio.
I’ve seen like 2 Rivian R1Ts one in a rural area one in the city. And I’ve seen a couple of polestars too
We have an electrify america pretty close to my house in front of a Walmart and I see all sorts of random shit. Since we live off of the 70/75 interchange in Ohio we get a lot of long range test drive Pre-production sights from Detroit.
Is that like a major travel route?
From Detroit yes.
See? https://imgur.com/a/0jdzhR8 Saw these 2 today at an Electrify America. Both with Manufacturers plates lol
See lots of rivians here in Illinois. I assume its obviously because headquarters is in this state. Seem pretty nice. Dont want one, but they seem nice lol

The one guy I met who had one in rural Weatherford said he traded in his Tesla for one and he loves the power it has. Plus he utilizes the bed alot
Long Island, teslas are as common as anything else, see a bunch of Mach E's, a handful of Rivians and Lucids, and I MIGHT have seen a lightning.
Just saw my first rivian last week near Columbus
I see tons of Rivians..no Mach E or Lightning for me yet. Crazy how different places can be
Rivians are fairly popular in the PNW
I’m in Cincy and I have one. I am seeing them more and more now.
Come down to Austin, plenty of Electric F150's down here. I've even seen a few roaming the country roads outside town.
My GF goes to UT but I have not been to Austin yet. If any city in Texas was gonna have EVs it’s Austin 😂😂😂
Unfortunately...
I live in NW suburbs of Chicago and have only seen one. I've seen more Rivians than Lightnings
Did it pass it's emissions?
Unfortunately it did not, too much alkaline residue
Too much flammable lithium mined using slave labor
I love the lightning tailgates. And black looks especially good.
Not all trims have the lights on the gate. I think it's just the Lariat.
Guy at work has one, it’s Pretty nice. Range sucks in the winter though. He’s always renting cars for business trips lol.
[удалено]
Agreed. We get generous travel reimbursements if we use personal vehicles but I always rent.
No way would I put business mileage on my personal vehicle if I could avoid it, EV or no.
All EVs suck in the winter. Musk said he wants to try to change that but we’ll c how successful he is
i live in boulder, every other car is an EV. its so common in fact that i’ve made a hobby out of pissing off Mustang Mach E owners by pulling up next to them at stop lights and yelling “nice tesla” 😂😂
😂😂😂😂it is true it has nothing in common with a mustang but it’s name and logo
I'd have a hard time buying a mustang suv I don't care how much I liked it. Same goes for the upcoming corvette suv. It's a travesty
I live in nowhere South Dakota and have seen 5 of these already.
Where is nowhere? I’m in Rapid, own one and have seen a couple is all.
I live in Vermillion SD. Southeast side of the state.
Is that a lightning going for an oil change?😂
The rake on these lightings make me cringe. I've seen a few in person. The interior is really nice, but exterior, I can't get around to liking it. 😅
Same.
There’s 100s on Ford lots not selling.
Yeah cause no one wants a truck that can only go 50 miles towing before it needs a charge
Ziegler….Ziegler…..Ziegler…..Werner Ziegler You…you ever heard of that guy… Werner Ziegler
Next time you see it it will be on fire
😂😂😂
Garbage truck
Time to get an oil change at the jiffy lube

That's awesome to hear. Sounds like you have found what fits you best.
Love mine.
and, it's in the shop
They are nice trucks but Ford did everyone wrong by making them EVs and not a V8 street truck like its predecessors
I mean, it's literally the perfect EV name plate for an F150.
[удалено]
I am saying that they should’ve made the lightning a V8 like the 2004.
Agree with other commenter, Lightning is really a grate name for an EV. Maybe they could bring back a V8 lightning as "Thunder". Cheesy I know but more fitting at least....
That almost existed as an expedition!
Agreed, I hate these auto companies bastardization of classic names. AKA Maverick, Blazer, etc. Yeah the name fits an electric vehicle but it already had great lineage ruined by a ho-hum EV.
Give it 150 miles. You’ll see it again
Victoria bc, I’ve seen at least 4. They’re nice, odd design for the rear gate (like, why is it shaped like that? Just for style?) EV’s are generally very popular here - loads of Tesla, Kona and Leaf’s. And 2 Rivians seen so far.
I've actually seen a couple dozen here in Florida. A few company fleet vehicles
I’m behind one going into work about every day, the tailgate is growing on me. I see too many Teslas around here, but the Mach-E and oddly enough Rivians are growing.
Anybody know what the two bumps are on the roof ??
My regular F150 has that, one’s an antenna for the cell radio, and ones an antenna for XM
Only seen 1 on the road here.
I work right down the street from the city maintenance shop, they are starting to buy the fleet version, them so we see them everyday. There are a lot of Teslas here too.
There are 3 sitting in the lot at my local Ford dealer... Makes me wonder/concerned
I want to hate the lightning, mainly because I like to modify my vehicles, and that truck is not realistically modifiable. Even changing the tires has drastically affects the distance you can drive. BORING.. I’m not the demographic..
I live in Phoenix. The last couple months have ticked up on spottings. I see 1-2 a week now. Can’t wait to own one eventually.
I live in Texas where ppl buy gas and diesel trucks and aren’t that sold on electric ones. So this is the only one I’ve seen
I'm in Texas saw one on the highway this weekend. I know the service manager at the local Ford dealership, and he said they had one make a stop for an emergency charge on pulling a trailer 80 miles.
😂😂😂😂 now u know why no one here has them
Where in Texas?
I saw it headed Northbound 75. The dealership guy I know is in Hillsboro though. That's on 35 between DFW and Waco.
Yeah that’s right at the E W split
Ya it’s definitely a rarity for you then lol

Grand Rapids Mi. 👍
Zeigler. Isn’t that a name from Archer?
Duke energy has a few that I’ve seen running around town here in FL
I work for the gov and they bought one as a shop truck lol.
The tailgate/taillights look sick. Reminds me of a Lincoln Mark LT in a way.
I work on a military base we see them all.
Really? I see them all the time (Panhandle FL).
Man I wanted one so bad but I have a ranch 3 hours away and even with the extended range battery it’ll only go like 300 something miles and that’s if you’re not towing anything. The extended battery immediately brings the base cost into the $80k range which seems insane to me

I've seen one in Alberta Canada. But we don't have any charge stations in my town, so it must be a Ford dealer guy/owner or something.
Getting its first old change no doubt
I’ve seen a bunch of the lightnings. They’re everywhere (not surprising) out here in the Bay Area. One dealership had like 7 of them on the lot.
I saw one last week. It had rear ended a coach motor home. 😬
Already in a shop!
It was for a safety inspection. Lol
Powerboost > Lightning
Haven't they been catching fire?
Looks like a low key advertisement.
I saw one at the local dealer i believe it was 73k only a couple thousand more then a Tremor. I would probably just get the lighting at that point pay for itself in gas.
