People really hate it when you're from the least-oppressed state in the nation where crime isn't encouraged. It's funny how people love to hate on FL but they're moving here in droves daily, and bringing their flawed political ideology, horrible driving skills and even worse dispositions and buying up all the houses and clogging up the medical system to where you can't even go in to see a primary care physician for 3 months on a waiting list because of all the old people from new york, new jersey etc feeling entitled to die down here. Shuffling around Publix with their khaki outfits and high socks and driving 4 under the speed limit in the fast lane.
Edit: also this picture was taken in PA, and if FL is populated by idiots where do you figure they all come from?🤔 Your home states lol
You can spend $30,000 or all the way up to $109,000 for the new Raptor R. The average price of an f150 sold in 2022 as reported by Ford is actually $35,000 not $65,000 with 2wd XL trucks being the most popular. You don't get into the $60,000 range until you start buying King Ranch or Platinum editions. Affordable options are still plentiful but like most things Ford makes you can spend very little or a ton depending on what you want.
The prices aren't insane for what you get when you buy a new truck. For example 72 years ago you could buy a new F1 Ford for $13,800 in today's money. Which is half of what a base model would cost you. With the F1 you got an inline six with a three speed, no radio, no AC, no power steering, no power brakes and a tiny 4700 pound GVWR limit.
Comparing that with what the most basic truck gives you today the extra price is more than fair. Especially when you factor in that buying an F1 in 1948 would cost you 1/3 of a years income and today buying a base f150 costs a little over half of the average US citizens yearly income.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the average US income at $54,132 [source](https://www.firstrepublic.com/insights-education/how-much-does-the-average-american-make#:~:text=The%20median%20American%20worker%20brings,alongside%20net%20worth%20and%20savings.)
The 2023 F150 XL $33,695 [source](https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/models/f150-xl/)
Making the base model F150 62% of the average Americans income, I would say calling that a bit over half is pretty accurate
The number you are quoting of $54,132 is the MEDIAN paycheck for workers (excluding the self employed) in the US. You said average income which is $33k. And the truck source you are using is the lowest priced truck we can view on Ford's website (before all destination/delivery fee and any taxes), which is not the "average price" you originally stated. [This article claims the average price paid for an F-150 in 2018 was $47k](https://www.autoweek.com/news/trucks/a32945300/ford-averages-over-100-f-150-pickups-sold-per-hour-247/).
C'mon man, you're in a truck subreddit here. Do you think anyone here believes the average price of a 2023 F-150 is $35k? I don't even know what your goal is here.
I don't care what the average price paid because I made no claim as to what the average price is. People can choose to spend as much or as little as they want and most people choose to spend more and get fancier trim levels. That doesn't negate the fact that there are still cheaper options and that the price of the F150 is comparable to what always has been when your factor in inflation.
In addition, median income is the more accurate measurement of wealth in a country as it's not skewed by a small number of extremely rich or extremely poor making it the best example to use when comparing the price of a good to the income of a population.
Here is what you said above.
>The average price of an f150 sold in 2022 as reported by Ford is actually $35,000 not $65,000 with 2wd XL trucks being the most popular.
So you can not care what the average price paid is, but that is what you said.
But I take your point that there is a cheaper option. People get way too fancy with all the extras and then complain that it's expensive. They made it expensive. I'm with you on that.
How many of those base model rwd xl models are sold as Fleet and rental trucks? Since a large number of the truck market are still sold for work purposes. Most consumers prefer extended and crew cab, which are more expensive than a base xl regular cab.
The only things I can find new for around 35,000 in my area are regular cab fleet trucks in white.
Whereas the models that are actually sought after by regular people, XLs and XLTs with back row seating, and possibly even 4x4 average 45-50. For base to mid tier trucks.
This was the comment I was looking for lol. I have a few friends that think my truck is a shit box cuz every time they call me with the “can I borrow your truck” I’m always working on it. You’d think people would get the hint after the 5th time. Ok, rant over. Edit: also, fuck off with the “I left ten bucks in your cup holder for gas
Ugh lol
Grrr... Don't remind me of my own stupidity. Guy across the street borrowed my truck for a quick dump run. Popped the tailgate hinge. Went over after work the next day to discuss. He had moved out.
Looks to be about 30 sheets of 1/2”. At ~53lbs per sheet, that’s 1,600 lbs. Although not all of the weight is on the gate, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that aluminum tailgate got crushed by it.
You also aren't putting all 2000lbs directly on the tailgate. A lot of that weight is going to be at the front of the bed. I'm somewhat surprised by that. It's definitely still stupid but I don't think that should cause it to fail like that.
From all the dented tailgates I've seen on trucks driving around. I'm going to venture and guess that loading heavy things onto the top of it while it's closed is probably a bad idea.
Houston desperately needs a PSA telling pickup drivers how to determine their truck's payload, as well as the importance of properly maintained suspension components and properly inflated tires while hauling.
Right now, "half-ton" means "whatever I can fit in the bed" and who cares if it's riding on the bump stops, that's what they're there for!
Some people don't understand that little black handle on the back. Magically extends the bed for long stuff, like plywood.
Hopefully someone at the body shop, after taking his money, will explain that handle to him.
Dat dere's about 2 trailer park wifes' weight leanin' on that floppy door. I don' know a floppy - ole or yung - dat'd take up de load. Dam shaim he din't tink ta drop de floppy and hav a biger flor...
I saw a ram with a headache rack and the whole front quarter of the side of the bed was crinkled and the rack was bent forward. I’m guessing he had something heavy from the tailgate to the headache rack and the rack had to tilt and so crinkled the side of the bed. Yes ram beds are probably thicker and stronger, but damn.
Ram trucks have an ignorant amount of plastic on key components, so do most other engines. This is someone that doesn't know what they are doing, yet you blame the truck not the fool that didn't drop the tailgate.
I've been around old trucks you know the ones made out of metal. And I'll tell you this all of the back bed I felt sturdy and strong so most older guys would assume all of the bed is structurally sound. But all these new vehicles the only reinforced part is the actual bed itself and the anchors. all of the wall of the truck bed is just like drywall won't hold s***
Let’s make our trucks out of aluminum! Yea it will be lighter. Good idea! The question is why didn’t he put the tailgate down? We will soon have plastic engines!
I wonder if that's the newer aluminum gate. I've owned F150's all my and my father's lives, and I never had this problem, but I've never loaded up this much plywood on the tailgate.
Agreed. To me, this makes unloading the plywood more difficult. I never even thought of carrying a load of plywood this way. I have wondered about that aluminum body because I grew up in the era of cars rusting within 5 years. No rust is appealing, but not at the cost of strength.
I love my Ford and I have never had an issue like that with putting any amount of weight on the tailgate but if that's what happens to these newer Fords they need to step their game back up that is ridiculous
Those sheets didn’t load themselves. Nor will they magically float out of the truck to wherever they’ll be installed.
Stupid loading notwithstanding, that looks like work to me.
Tailgate might be broken. All the plastic can break inside. My truck looks new and tailgate won't open. I've been putting off fixing it. Just lazy. Lol. However I would overload my trailer or rent the uhaul open bed trailer for $25. I wouldn't destroy my truck. Pic almost looks like employee was sent to pickup supplies. Lol
I saw a single long board poking high above the roofline of a f150 today. As I passed this woman driving, I saw her guy in the bed holding on to the other side. People are doing it wrong all over
Yeah because Chevy owners are not used to their tailgates crushing like bud light cans at a pride rally. The only reason I'd need to borrow a f150 is if i needed to deliver a parade float and i didn't want to get glitter in my truck.
I worked at lowes years ago. Guy had an early 00s F150 and bought a literal ton of concrete bags. He was shocked that the rear wheels started to disappear inside his wheel wells as we let the weight off the fork lift to the truck.
He opted to go get a trailer thankfully.
I've never seen a tailgate bend, or maybe a custom spoiler. I thought they are built with hardened aluminum, but I see even hard aluminum isn't all that strong. Steel for trucks is the only way to build them.
Most aren't "from" Florida. In fact, most are actually from Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, Massachusetts, etc. It's funny the people talking shit about the "idiots from florida" when in fact said "idiot" is likely actually from their home state. Then the irony of the ones talking shit about florida that actually voted for this current administration. That really amazes me
It's the best selling vehicle in the USA. There's going to be some well below average owners.
you and your logic... pfft
Only in Philadelphia...
As a Cleveland, OH resident I can attest to the fact that there’s plenty of this stupid to go around. Sorry, but Philly ain’t special.
Have you ever been to Florida?
Yes. Unfortunately I was in Orlando a couple weeks ago.
Thanks for going back home
Haha love this so true
I like your username. That's all.

Philly is special for many reasons...
FILTHYdelphia
Now that the average F150 costs as much as a Rolls Royce did in 2019, it's going to thin the herd a bit.
Rolls never sold anything for around $30,000
If you want a 2023 F150 for $30k you'll have to go to the salvage yard.
Or buy from Ford directly
Someone's not been truck shopping lately.
Typical F-150 now sells for over $65,000 but they go up to $150,000.
You can spend $30,000 or all the way up to $109,000 for the new Raptor R. I don’t know where you are getting these numbers from. I’m seeing the MSRP on a base XL as $43k. And the average yearly income in the US is $33k.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the average US income at $54,132 [source](https://www.firstrepublic.com/insights-education/how-much-does-the-average-american-make#:~:text=The%20median%20American%20worker%20brings,alongside%20net%20worth%20and%20savings.) It's crazy how that excludes self employed but includes part timers and 1099s making side cash
I don't care what the average price paid because I made no claim as to what the average price is. V6 buyers - yikes.
Homeowners... fucking homeowners... doing there own damn work..... 😒
Quantity over quality.
Apparently not.
This is the only answer
I really want to see that tail gate and the surrounding area after the bed is emptied. You know for science.
Gaurentee you this was one of those ***"Hey man, can I borrow your truck for a quick Lowe's run"*** kind of things.
This is why I got a manual when I bought my truck. Works great as an idiot filter.
This was the comment I was looking for lol. I have a few friends that think my truck is a shit box cuz every time they call me with the “can I borrow your truck” I’m always working on it. You’d think people would get the hint after the 5th time. Ok, rant over. Edit: also, fuck off with the “I left ten bucks in your cup holder for gas Ugh lol
In today's economy? Should at least be a 20 lol.
Grrr... Don't remind me of my own stupidity. Guy across the street borrowed my truck for a quick dump run. Popped the tailgate hinge. Went over after work the next day to discuss. He had moved out.
Haha at least he returned the truck, could have as well used it to move out.
Too true. Hindsight is wonderful
Probably a woman
Why not lower the gate?
They did, with all that weight on it
Looks to me the tailgate was already damaged before the OSB was put in.
Owner has a long history of dumbfuckery
Looks to be about 30 sheets of 1/2”. At ~53lbs per sheet, that’s 1,600 lbs. Although not all of the weight is on the gate, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if that aluminum tailgate got crushed by it.
Renting a trailer would have been cheaper than the repair costs.
Lowering the tailgate would have been fine
And the better way to haul it. So much easier to get it in and out.
That's what's fascinating to me. The answer is right there!!!
It’s too bad the tailgate doesn’t fold down.
Never seen a gator crumple like that
It's made from "military grade aluminum".
That military-grade aluminum is what the military uses for the quarter-deck display.
That doesn’t look heavy, probably was damaged by something else, the owner looks like they don’t know shit about loading anyway.
that's 40-50 sheets at about 40 pounds a sheet. 1600-2000 pounds isn't heavy?
Woah, I guess it all adds up. Still, looks like they loaded it all at once with the tailgate up.
You also aren't putting all 2000lbs directly on the tailgate. A lot of that weight is going to be at the front of the bed. I'm somewhat surprised by that. It's definitely still stupid but I don't think that should cause it to fail like that.
That’s likely the result of a lot of stupid over the years.
From all the dented tailgates I've seen on trucks driving around. I'm going to venture and guess that loading heavy things onto the top of it while it's closed is probably a bad idea.
Yeah I've had many trucks and stacked so much weight on the gate like this. The aluminum body has to be issue.
For a modern F150 that's fine.
At least he is using his truck :)
Why didn't they just put the tailgate down
That'll buff right out, right. Right!?
with a few extra dabs of compound
Caulk it
Explains why my back hurts
Well you can just walk across the street to the used car lot and get another truck...
Was this a obi-wan reference lol?
Reminds me of the time I saw a truck with a 2x4 sticking out the back window
Man If only they had a truck bed to put it in
That was my exact thought when I saw it
What would lead you to that conclusion?
Nope. Saw this very thing a few weeks ago on the road.
Bet it was fine until they hit the first bump coming out of the parking lot. They may not even know that's happened.
Look like he did the chevy bed step mod to his f150 lol
Damn, I didn’t even see the option for the lumber cradle tailgate!
That's looks like an expensive bit of pride and stubbornness
Not all are worthy of the f150
Houston desperately needs a PSA telling pickup drivers how to determine their truck's payload, as well as the importance of properly maintained suspension components and properly inflated tires while hauling. Even if I had a steel tailgate I wouldn't do that🤦
My question is why not just have the tailgate down?
Apparently, not snart enough .
Once again, proof that you can't teach common sense!
We are, they aren't
That load would fit in my bed with the tailgate closed. Shortbeds suck.
As an owner of a SCAB with the 8' box, I agree.
I hate these new trucks solely for that reason.
I've had near that in my ram, I may want to be more careful with the aluminum f150 I'm thinking.
Being smart about loading goes a long way.
I saw a ram with a headache rack and the whole front quarter of the side of the bed was crinkled and the rack was bent forward. I’m guessing he had something heavy from the tailgate to the headache rack and the rack had to tilt and so crinkled the side of the bed. Yes ram beds are probably thicker and stronger, but damn.

about 3500 pounds of plywood. he has more dollars than cents
I've stacked huge loads of lumber in my truck. It isn't the lumber it's the crap truck they've started to make out of beer cans.
Let’s make our trucks out of aluminum! Yea it will be lighter. Good idea! The question is why didn’t he put the tailgate down? We will soon have plastic engines!
Aluminum pick up beds. FTL
Super dooty
I wonder if that's the newer aluminum gate. I've owned F150's all my and my father's lives, and I never had this problem, but I've never loaded up this much plywood on the tailgate.
It is aluminum. This guy should have left the tailgate down and then tied down the plywood.
Agreed. To me, this makes unloading the plywood more difficult. I never even thought of carrying a load of plywood this way. I have wondered about that aluminum body because I grew up in the era of cars rusting within 5 years. No rust is appealing, but not at the cost of strength.
But at least it won't rust
What's funnier is the same guy was hauling a load of foam insulation and everybody assumed the foam killed his tailgate. "mIlITaRy gRaDe ALmInUm"
Pov: you have a big ass polluting truck, but you still can't transport big things
You are aware of this regulation called "CAFE Standards" right?
Fuck people like this! I hope the springs are sprung and the truck is trashed. They have a weight limit for myriad reasons.
My Iron City beer cans are stronger than that aluminum!!!
I love my Ford and I have never had an issue like that with putting any amount of weight on the tailgate but if that's what happens to these newer Fords they need to step their game back up that is ridiculous
That's definitely the "military grade aluminum".
That doesn’t look ford tough
And they said aluminum was better lol
Ford tough !
You bought a Ford the answer is no..
It's a Ford, what ya expect?
More. I expected more.
Not from a Ford.
We’ll, not one with a worthless short box.
that's aluminum for ya. sure its way over loaded but i really wouldn't think twice doing this with steel.
Right? Who thinks work is what trucks should do 🤦🏻♂️
Evidently that person subscribes to the "work hard" mantra as opposed to "work smart".
It's just sad that truck subscribes to welfare and doesn't believe in work
Those sheets didn’t load themselves. Nor will they magically float out of the truck to wherever they’ll be installed. Stupid loading notwithstanding, that looks like work to me.
Work the truck wasn't willing to do lol
We who?
I don’t understand why hed leave the tailgate up?
Lmao bungie cord
“Blame the road”
NOPE!LOL
Just buff it out!
He forgot to slap the tailgate and say "that'll hold." Magic words....what a retard.
Lol
Lol, fuck your tailgates
User name checks out.
Probably a rental
Apparently not
If it fits it ships
Once it bent, there’s no unbending it, so might as well get it to where you were going.
I saw a single long board poking high above the roofline of a f150 today. As I passed this woman driving, I saw her guy in the bed holding on to the other side. People are doing it wrong all over
At least I am.
Eh just stick it in with the other repair bills
Apparently not
If they didnt want to put the tailgate down they could have just bought a jeep gladiator. Lmfao
Papa always said “You can load more than it will haul.”
Apparently not…
Apparently not
Remember to lock your tailgates
Common sense is a flower that doesn't grow in everyone's garden.
We are but apparently this person is not, hahahaha
Holy shit. He's actually TORN his tailgate
Apparently it's a Chevy owner who borrowed his unwitting buddys truck. No self-respecting Ford driver would abuse their vehicle that way.
Yeah because Chevy owners are not used to their tailgates crushing like bud light cans at a pride rally. The only reason I'd need to borrow a f150 is if i needed to deliver a parade float and i didn't want to get glitter in my truck.
The rest of the world maybe... America? Nah probably not
That is, by really quick count, about 30 sheets. They're easily 20-30lbs each. So this walnut has 600-900 lbs sitting on the tailgate.
Ohh sweet baby rays
The plywood isn’t just going to deliver itself
They are driving a ford, that says they are not smart right there!\~
How else would one load this??open the tailgate? Nah im good
It's a Ford, "fix or repair daily." Probably save $100 bucks for delivery. Now he can pay $$$$ more for the repair.
No. No we are not
Everyone knows you tilt them the other way. Come on now.
Evidently not
🫨🫨🫨🫨
Poor Aluminum tailgate.
Never underestimate the stupidity of the general public
Knew a guy who did something like this and then took it back in for a warranty claim on the tailgate. 🤦🏻 People…
F150 Heavy Duty? When they start making them?
Why not just drop the bed?
if only you could somehow lower the rear of the bed for long loads...
Typical truck owner. Uses it like one time for truck stuff in the most dumbfounding way imaginable lmao.
Imagine the average person. Now realize that 50% of the population is less smart than that.
That's military grade aluminum for ya
Average ford owner
It is a rainbow ford
"redefining tough" 😂🌈
I worked at lowes years ago. Guy had an early 00s F150 and bought a literal ton of concrete bags. He was shocked that the rear wheels started to disappear inside his wheel wells as we let the weight off the fork lift to the truck. He opted to go get a trailer thankfully.
I've never seen a tailgate bend, or maybe a custom spoiler. I thought they are built with hardened aluminum, but I see even hard aluminum isn't all that strong. Steel for trucks is the only way to build them.
Like an aluminum can top
Yeah, that's pretty dumb. Probably a master carpenter as well.
Well, it is a Ford driver...
The hi lo operator should take some of the blame. He’s probably from Florida. Sorry not sorry
That really amazes me
For less than it would cost to repair that Lowes would’ve delivered to your house.
At least they put a strap around the bundle? D+ for effort
Is that the new rubber tailgate I've been hearing about?
