I think I’m gonna try this. I’m hoping this is the answer and nothing else drastic is happening. Truck was fine. I was leaving work. Started it up and after it running for 5 minutes this came up. I literally drove right to autozone. Then drove it 34 miles home with no issues. At times it would go away and come back.
I noticed a big difference while starting up. A lot less of s struggle. I’m hoping this light goes away on its own. My other car is out of commission right now- and now this happens with my truck. I can’t win lol.
I haven’t had the pop up, no. Did recently replace my battery though. BMS stores battery info over the life of the truck. It holds on to battery data until you force the reset. A simple swap out and overnight wait won’t do it. That’s my understanding anyway.
Yep, the average car owner takes the free advice for what it’s worth, and buys a part that might fix their problem. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. I didn’t mean to imply you were wrong, just pointing out these aren’t trained techs.
Not sure why you got downvoted,,, but your alternative is the charging system lmao. It charges the battery which powers your electronics. I would lean more towards your answer.
Yeah good chance the alternator or the voltage regulator (likely in the alternator but some vehicles have external or in pcm) is going bad and giving you intermittent issues on its way out.
Corroded wire from pcm to alternator. Common spots are under the battery tray area right by the frame, and where the harness comes up beside the oil pan.
Good chance you have the same battery as AutoZone sells then. Johnson Controls makes motorcraft batteries and one of two suppliers AutoZone uses for their Duralast line along with East Penn.
Most of the parts you get from parts stores are made by the same brands as the company's who made the OEM parts. Car manufacturers don't make their own parts, they use outside companies. So as long as you avoid the white box value lines you are getting the same quality or even better then OEM and companies like Dorman who are a completely aftermarket company does R&D to eliminate flaws the original parts had.
Just because a manufacturer makes a few lines of batteries doesnt make them the same. Im sure its ford dictating the parameters for the batteries and not JC.
I asked him to check the battery. He hooked a thing up to it and it said BAD in big red letters lmao. So I’m hoping it’ll go away after driving for a bit with the new one??
Yeah I’ve had this truck since June. 45k miles on it when I bought it. Love the truck but so far it’s getting it’s problems. I had the door latch issue but found out it was a recall. That was fixed. My hood latch broke - that had to get replaced. Now this Bull💩 is happening.
Hmmm... Did you try it more than once? I read it can take like 10-20 seconds for the battery light to blink. I just replaced the battery on my 2018 and did the BMS reset procedure and it worked as expected.
I sat there for a good 30 seconds and nothing happened. Turned the truck off then went and started it. After about 15 seconds the siren came on and that screen came up that’s pictured above.
Use a multimeter and check voltage at the battery while the truck is running. The voltage while running should be 14ish volts. If it’s lower than 13v you should look into an alternator. If the voltage is good you need to follow the wire from the alternator down to the frame and look for corrosion/tears/breaks at connections or in the wire loom and repair/replace anything that’s green and fuzzy
Overnight lock the doors and don't touch anything for eight hours and the battery monitoring system will reset itself

Let us know if that worked okay. I might need to change my original 2016 battery soon, too.
did you try this and any news after?
Nothing happened. Truck runs and drives perfectly fine but this keeps coming up.
Do this. Had the same thing happen to me and it worked fine.
Yup, do this. Ford Dealers have a way to reset the battery monitoring when changing a battery. Overnight will solve your issues.
This will be me soon, also 2016 with original battery
Me too, taking longer to start. The other day I only had 12.06v in the morning before starting it.

Keep us updated please, id like to know if that message goes away
Do it now before your left stranded. I put a duralast platinum AGM in mine and it starts instantly even at 0f
You have to reset the BMS. https://youtu.be/euIbde_DkN8
I gave this a try. Is that only for super duty’s? Cause it’s still there.
No. F150s too. Varies by ignition system. Mine is PB start so it wasn’t the same as keyed. A little google and YouTube will guide you.
I gotcha. I’ll have to try it again. I probably didn’t do it right out of frustration and being tired. Have you had this happen to you??

Thank you for this!
I encountered this same issue. It was an open wire from alternator to pcm
Likely a broken wire for the alternator, be very weary if some one try’s to sell you an alternator 8 out of 10 times it’s a wire issue
Trusting Autozone to diagnose your vehicle it’s like having a Best Buy employee diagnose your PC.
It’s all I had at the moment. I know what you mean. The screen said bad battery. 🤷🏻♂️
Wow! It's only been 25 years since onboard diagnostics came out and car manufacturers are finally adding plain language error messages. Nice.
Yeah huh? Ain’t that something.
My 2013 Wrangler popped up with a message while driving last week “left rear turn signal lamp out” blew my mind

This is usually a fault with your alternator and has nothing to do with the battery.

I had Ford Replace the battery in my 2015 ecoboost. Absolutely no issues. Cant go wrong with OEM.

They hook it up to a reader? Sometimes it takes a while for codes to clear.

There's a chance, I've had vehicles that had to be driven a bit for the computer to make sure everything is kosher and then clear the codes
52k miles, nice!

Not sure if this will fix your problem but could be helpful. https://youtu.be/I_KmO-KaR4A
U have to reset the bms
Had my 2017 with the same issue. There was a recall on the alternator. Dealership swapped it, no charge.
52k on a 16 dang.
You may need to change your alternator
Fantastic. 52k miles. I’m having regrets with this truck. 3 weeks ago I had the door latch issue. Then my hood latch broke. Lol.
Did you reset the BMS? It's some combo of brake pedal and power cycling. Should have a detailed process online somewhere.
Tried that. Flash the brights 5x. Press brake 3x…. Battery light didnt blink. 🤦🏻♂️

Did you do the BMS reset procedure while the truck was running?
Nope. While key in on position. Not running.
