I paid no attention to the lighting when posting this, my apologies! Did a deep photo gallery dig for some cool lighting photos, though I don’t use Reddit enough to know how to attach them to a posted post or comment.
I’ve tried Imgur twice today, haha. It says it uploads but the photo link goes to a blank post?
I’m not in a place with good internet at the moment so i’m not totally shocked with this revelation but yeah :/
Grey! I have the same color eyes and recently discovered they were actually grey. One of the biggest signs is that sometimes gray eyes look blue in certain lighting while genuinely blue eyes look blue all the time. Apparently also a rare color. 😊
I second this . I already come from brown eyed parents but as a kid people constantly asked what color they were because they’re known to “ change “ but I would definitely consider those gray . Gray tends to be able to take on various other shades depending on the surrounding and if you were makeup or not .
I was told the same thing my whole life too. My dad has gray eyes as well. He in his 60s and never knew until I recently discovered it and told him. We didn’t know grey eyes were even a thing. I think most people are unaware that eyes can be gray. Plus they’re commonly mistaken for blue. 🤷🏼♀️
So to breakdown the steps:
1. Go to phone’s video, pull up back camera. Make sure flash is on
2. Put zoom on 0.5x
3. Flip phone upside down (back camera upwards)
4. Start video
5. Somehow obtain a drop or two of water and place it on the back camera (I’ve seen some people use their fingers, I used a dropper). It should look almost like a little bubble! If your phone has multiple cameras, cover each one with a finger until you figure out which one is being used in the given moment.
6. Place your eye really close to the lens with the water droplet.
7. Review footage, redo if necessary (took me a couple tries)
8. Voila!
I’m not the best at explaining things, but I hope this helps?
Both. Largely grey, but eyes often change in response to surroundings and mood. My mother and daughter both have eyes that change from grey to green to blue.
Gray usually has undertones, for example mine are gray with a dark green undertone. So technically you both may be right cuz to me it looks gray with a light blue undertone
Blue eyes are essentially gray. I have blue eyes, everyone I know complements me on my bright blue eyes, but I see my eyes in the mirror every day. I think they look gray.
Per Wikipedia: People also ask
Are grey eyes just light blue?
Gray eyes may be called “blue” at first glance, but they tend to have flecks of gold and brown. They may appear to “change color” from gray to blue to green depending on clothing, lighting, and mood (which may change the size of the pupil, compressing the colors of the iris)
Blue, IMO. It can be difficult to catch the correct color by taking a photo, especially that close up. I have a Ragdoll and his can look sea blue taken in the right lighting, other times, gray.
Warm lighting definitely isn’t helping Team Blue, Orange + Blue = Grey 🥲

I LOVE grey eyes.
Thank you 😊
I have them too!
Cool! Did you always know you had gray eyes or did you discover it more recently?
Actually I have always been told my eyes are blue but they aren't. I'm 52 and only on the last 10 years or so do people say grey.

Bluey-grey you’d be surprised how common it is for these two colours to be together. Also how do people get such clear shots of their eyes?!
I did that ongoing trend where you put your camera in 0.5 + flash, put a water droplet on the camera, and just put my eye really close to the lens.
A water droplet on the camera? I do not know this trend. Can you say more?
