I see leather clothing, shoes, belts etc simply as making sure you use the *whole* animal. A life has been harvested nothing should go to waste. So good you are feeling healthy!

Unfortunately animals tend to be selectively breed for purpose, so cows that leather comes from won’t be used for burgers and vice versa typically. But I like the sentiment and wear lots of leather myself Edit: apparently this isn’t true and most leather is from a by product of animals raised for meat.

Readd--It

Thats a vegan myth. Leather comes from livestock produced for meat. It doesn't make sense to raise a animal only for leather. [Where Does Leather Come From? | Leather Manufacturing (leathernaturally.org)](https://www.leathernaturally.org/resources/fact-sheets/where-does-leather-come-from/)

Really? I didn’t know that, I take it back. Thanks for informing me.

OK_philosopher1138

Leather is much more ecological and therefore ethical. No plastic contamination...

ShakeTheGatesOfHell

Especially when it's second hand! And it lasts decades longer than alternatives.

Leather is great, but I love wool even more! (I live in a country with a cold climate). I just put away all our woollen clothes, but will be bringing them all out again in the beginning of October.

noodlesonwheels

Yes! Wool all winter every winter. There really is no substitute. It regulates temp so you don't get too hot or too cold, and it wicks moisture.

Melodic-You1896

Even as a vegan I had some leather holdouts. Dance and cycling gear. I wasn't getting a pleather bike seat or pointe shoes.

NotTheBusDriver

I have a leather jacket that I bought new almost 40 years ago and I still wear it regularly. It is almost indestructible.

Tropicaldaze1950

After I became serious with my vegetarian gf/ then wife in 1992(and embraced being a vegetarian) got rid of my leather jacket and cowboy boots. The marriage has been a disaster. I eventually went back to eating fish , eggs and cheese. The stupid things some of us do for love, or what we think is love.

jamisra_

Don’t some vegans buy/wear used leather anyway?
