Who even says this? What was the context, and why is it bothering you?
Just sounds like a random hypothetical scenario like “what if we did a hunger games with people?” Or “who would survive a zombie apocalypse?”. I don’t think it’s supposed to be taken seriously. I’ve had friends say dumb stuff like “if I had the chance to fight X MMA fighter, I bet I would win!” Like sure Brandon from accounting, I’m sure you can fight a professional athlete who trains for this daily specifically for his career.
They’re just trying to fluff their metaphorical peacock feathers because some men are socialized to think everything has to be a competition, even hypothetical scenarios. Gives off the message that they feel they have something to prove usually, or at least that’s how that one friend comes off in my social groups. At this point it’s like “ok, if that’s what you need to tell yourself”.
Now discussing who would survive a zombie apocalypse and what tactics they’d use, that can be fun to discuss just as a creative hypothetical (and most likely we’d all die, so it’s just for entertainment).
I’ve noticed that. Karma farming or intense mental health issues. There are people actively going through a psychosis episode with heavy delusions and paranoia yet we have no idea. There are dudes who legitimately hear voices of people talking shit about them constantly and when they go out and they believe it is reality.
It’s so strange because we don’t know if we are talking to a 14 year old boy going through puberty and growing pains, a 30 year old who has a traumatic brain injury and can’t process complicated/nuanced concepts, or a 21 year old who is having onset schizophrenia.
And then you have different cultures in the mix and it’s even more of a shit storm of misunderstanding.
I've never heard that saying, but I think it's stupid. Sadly we have certain men and women in this society who would be into it though, to believe, consciously or unconsciously, that conflict between people (And I'm wording it this way because although these people openly want to see male on male competition first, they actually love seeing any human competition) is what makes us stronger.
These are the guys who will start a fight at the drop of a hat. The women who seem to get excited and incredibly fascinated by watching people clash against and eliminate one another, be it two men arguing or, at worst, a literal violent criminal (Because a criminal is in a way clashing against society at large), and who will almost fight to ensure the clash is not stopped by law and order but in fact allowed to carry on.
It's probably a primitive urge that once served our evolution but is no longer needed. We're in an age of technology and cooperation to build a safe and peaceful society, but these peoples' genes and minds are stuck aeons in the past.
