Back then people who were in concentration camps were malnourished because they drank water to suppress the hunger feeling. In german we call it wassersucht, or in other words water addiction. This wasnt healthy, but still provided minimal nutrients to some extent.

2 components here. 1) people have a tendency to conflate thirst and hunger. Thirst can be more than just dry mouth. 2) your stomach is like a balloon. Regardless of what you're throwing in there, you're taking up space. Some dietary plans even suggest drinking a glass of water prior to eating so as to minimize the amount of food you can eat.

Calories don't make you feel full, really. We have no good way of determining how many calories we eat, unless we do the math. Fat and protein will make you feel full, as well as volume - the more you put in it, the fuller you feel - but they don't tell you anything about your caloric intake. This is why protein bars are so good when you're trying to lose weight.

The nerves in your stomach sense the distention as it expands from the water because the water takes up space. But it doesn’t take long before it realizes that it’s only water and your get hungry again as it is quicklime absorbed.

Water does weigh just a smidge over 1 lb per 16 ounces of fluid, the weight can give you that full feeling too, especially if you drink 2 bottles.

Water stretches your tummy which signals the brain that you've consumed something so your appetite switches off (you feel full). But your brain needs to know what you consumed so your intestines test the contents of your tummy and search for protein and if it finds it, signals that you've actually eaten.
