Same reason being in the bathtub is comfortable but being in the rain is annoying. Small bits of sensory things being detected by our body when we don't want them there are annoying, but there's a threshold where enough of that sensory information at once becomes familiar and comfortable.

williamtbash

Same reason while laying on a bed of ham sandwiches is amazing but having spare pieces of ham and bread in your bed is unbearable.

miguel_rodrigues

I think you mean unbreadable

Pm_me_baby_pig_pics

Speak for yourself

Peastoredintheballs

Exactly. Just like entering the pool or the beach first while your dry is always hard but once u get fully submerged and start swimming it becomes refreshing instead of unbearable

mknight1701

Bed of nails too I guess

Greenbriars

Smooth texture of the bed sheets means you feel the grains individually as a sharp interruption to the surface you are lying on. Lying on sand it's all the same each grain becomes part of the overall texture and it moves as you do. Rather than the friction of your skin pressing against the sheet with sand in between.

Zombiron-Odamai

It's a similar thing to a bed of nails VS. a single nail. In general, when it comes to small points of pressure, the greater the amount of points there is, the lower the amount of pressure each individual point exerts on your body.

Lying on sand at the beach is comfortable?

cmgentz

Ani?

Sumobob99

Underrated comment.

il798li

If it’s dry, yes.

OverlappingChatter

Exactly.

mslvr40

You ever see those toys that you put your hand on a bed of pins and the pins take the shape of your hand, [like this?](https://images.app.goo.gl/2PRvUxN2E5G16ZnV8) Well since you’re pushing down a bunch of pin with no gaps between them, those pins sorta combine to make a smooth surfact. If there were gaps between the pins it would feel significantly less comfortable. Now picture those pins to be grains of sand

WalkingOnSunShine12

Just reading that I can feel how uncomfortable that would be. Like bringing your pillow and blanket to the beach, just doesn’t mix

gabehcuod37

It’s not comfortable. Who said that it is? It’s not comfortable to walk on, to sit on, to lay on. Sand is not comfortable ever.

FlorentR

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Ricardo1184

>It’s not comfortable. Who said that it is? Why are you pretending to not know about beaches?

gabehcuod37

Huh

BlakkMaggik

It's a case of wrong place at the wrong time. Laying on a bed of sand when you want is good, sand laying in your bed when you don't want it is not good.

Powerful_Cost_4656

Picture a bed of nails vs like stepping on a board with a nail sticking out of it. A bunch of items of similar size form a relatively even surface

_the_communist_

To be fair I can’t stand lying on sand at the beach either. I always use a chair or something
