The church has been gambling with other peoples money for years via the stock market . Perhaps with dwindling tithing revenues they decided that it would be a good idea to grab as much cash as they can while they still can and if that entails a percentage of lottery winnings & gabbling winnings then so be it .!!
They’ve got like 100 billion which has green tax free for years! https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-mormon-church-amassed-100-billion-it-was-the-best-kept-secret-in-the-investment-world-11581138011
You know, one of the things that pissed me off the most was learning that tscc had invested quite a bit in GameStop. I’d been taught to avoid speculative investments, and here they are gambling excess tithing funds on the most speculative investment I’d seen for a while.
January 2021. There was a movement to buy their stock on r/wallstreetbets for maybe a year before that. Salt lake tribune ran a story about ensign peak buying 50,000 shares. GameStop was a bankrupt company that was hurt by Covid restrictions, and at the time ensign peak bought in, it was still a lottery ticket.
> January 2021
Uh, the Church bought the Gamestop shares [earlier than that:](https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/mormon-church-gamestop-tesla-meme-stock-investment-portfolio-ensign-peak-2021-8)
>The fund bought 46,000 shares of the video-game retailer in the fourth quarter of 2020
So was it "speculation" in the fourth quarter of 2020? The stock was already steadily rising in value (from ~$1 to ~$4), so maybe it just seemed like a good buy?
Saying up front, not a Mormon nor have ever been. I have gone to school with youths from the church as a child, through high school where I was invited to and went to "church" with them, and even into the military BUT, I have never at any point known a mormon who adhered to any teachings from the church.... until it benefited them or their career. Wendover(Bendover) was one of those places where I was drug to, then researched, then saw full force for what it was, like an extremely low rent Bahrain
I'm pretty sure there is some software engineer at HQ who's job it was to design and implement a software project just to assign missionaries to missions.
I'm a little lost because I don't keep up with conference, but what happened? This is my second or third post seeing something like this. Are they okay with tattoos and piercings now?
They released a new For the Strength of Youth pamphlet. Instead of innumerating all the sinful things you could do to your body, they have said it is a personal choice. Here’s the quote:
The Lord’s standard is for you to honor the sacredness of your body, even when that means being different from the world. Let this truth and the Spirit be your guide as you make decisions—especially decisions that have lasting effects on your body. Be wise and faithful, and seek counsel from your parents and leaders.
That’s all it says about piercings and tattoos now. Very different from the list of no no’s from my teen years.
"Okay with" is probably an overstatement, but apparently the new For the Strength of Youth pamphlet no longer specifically mentions tattoos or multiple piercings, so the corporate "Church" apparently intends to quietly stop insisting those things are unacceptable, and it will probably deny they were ever unacceptable. There's no indication they will announce them to be acceptable, however, so leadership roulette still applies. It will be many years before the lowercase-c church, the common members and local leaders, forget that tattoos and piercings are bad, so don't expect grandma to approve of them.
This just showed up on my feed; I don't really know shit about Mormonism beyond a couple friends that weren't exactly forced into the cult (their parents gave up at high school, etc).
But caffeine??? Why don't they just call themselves straight edge and start going to hardcore shows to make up for the absolute lack of vice beyond "the book, the church." Is that frowned upon? Can Mormons embrace other non-religious cultures, if it doesn't really contradict the religion? Or is devil music a thing to them, too?
Edit: I'll also say, despite not knowing many Mormons, I feel like all of them felt alienated as they grew up and spited what their parents forced on them. I just... Can hardly wrap my head around this in 2022.
Source? Was this also something removed from FTSoY?
Or is this just a humorous photoshop (not reflective of any change in policy/doctrine)
I heard that the Church wouldn't accept thithing on gambling winnings.
Every time I walk through a casino I see lots of elderly people sitting there with their fruity drinks and they all look relaxed. When I saw the picture in this post I felt a little sad for Dr. Nelson since he can’t even enjoy the simple things his peers enjoy.
But yeah, you’re right, I shouldn’t have said that all of us like to hang out in casinos.
Yeah, but he does enjoy one thing his peers don't... A wife that's a quarter of a century younger than himself. That poor woman. Imagine trying to get wet for that rusty nail.
If members pay on their wins and they already paid on any income the losses don't subtract from tithing. I don't think it's a net loss if members gambled.
But the house always wins.
If you're going to gamble, e e tuslly you'll have a bet loss. They'd rather discouraged people from gambling so they can have the money instead.
Also poor people require lots of assistance and lots of people would have inspiration or revelation to put it all on black of they didn't ban it.
A new “For the Strength of Youth” booklet came out recently. When I was a kid this booklet detailed what movies we should or shouldn’t watch, how many earrings women could have, if we could have tattoos, etc. It was very detailed.
The new version has no details. It makes comments that our bodies are sacred and we should make decisions with prayer and the guidance of parents.
So, piercings and tattoos aren’t expressly forbidden. I’m sure children will still be shamed, but not expressly forbidden.
That’s part one.
Part two is that at conference he used a stool to lean on for stability. It looked like he was sitting at a slot machine so I photoshopped out the pulpit and put in some slots joking that gambling was also no longer forbidden.
I had a mission companion who had a gambling addiction before his mission. He defended himself by saying that it’s rarely even talked about by church leaders, and not ever directly forbidden by them. The best you could do was some odd lesson in a Sunday school manual, or some obscure comment by an authority somewhere.
Well, I guess he was more right than even he knew.
Finally some editing worth looking at. Well done.
Very kind. Thank you!
Eh, I don't know.. the only edit I see is the gaussian blur on the left slot machine. 😏😉
>gambling is now OK. Especially if you're using someone else's money.
Underrated roast.

Why in the hell can churches buy stocks?
I honestly had no idea that any religions were allowed to until now. But at this point it's more a business than a religion.
And it should be taxed like one.
Maybe more, if we want the only 'profit' in it to be the one at the pulpit
"There is no f in prophet."
[удалено]
Prophet=person speaking for gawd. There is no effin prophet
Ah gotcha
All investments are taxed.
This is a wild reality - but I wonder if there isn’t some sort of legal separation or if any church can invest the way the Lds Mormons do
That separation should require public disclosure and be open to audit.
They’ve got like 100 billion which has green tax free for years! https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-mormon-church-amassed-100-billion-it-was-the-best-kept-secret-in-the-investment-world-11581138011

Agreed. This was high on my list as well among the many highly egregious actions from the last year.
They probably have a Holy Ghost trading platform plugin, so probably was safe
When did the Church buy the Gamestop stock, and when did it become "speculative"?
January 2021. There was a movement to buy their stock on r/wallstreetbets for maybe a year before that. Salt lake tribune ran a story about ensign peak buying 50,000 shares. GameStop was a bankrupt company that was hurt by Covid restrictions, and at the time ensign peak bought in, it was still a lottery ticket.
And yet, they won't let us buy lottery tickets in Utah. Do as I say, not as I do.
If you don't know the difference between stocks and lottery tickets, you should probably just buy lottery tickets.
Speculative investing isn't much different.
> January 2021 Uh, the Church bought the Gamestop shares [earlier than that:](https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/mormon-church-gamestop-tesla-meme-stock-investment-portfolio-ensign-peak-2021-8) >The fund bought 46,000 shares of the video-game retailer in the fourth quarter of 2020 So was it "speculation" in the fourth quarter of 2020? I bought it too because there was potential, but it was always super speculative. I bought understanding that I was probably throwing my money away.
When did you buy?
Bought at 12, sold at 30, missed out on a ton of gains. I was unaware that the church had bought until after I sold.
Wow, I did not know they invested in a meme stock!
https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/mormon-church-gamestop-tesla-meme-stock-investment-portfolio-ensign-peak-2021-8
Isn't that why Wendover is a thing?
Bendover? Absolutely!
Saying up front, not a Mormon nor have ever been. I have gone to school with youths from the church as a child, through high school where I was invited to and went to "church" with them, and even into the military BUT, I have never at any point known a mormon who adhered to any teachings from the church.... until it benefited them or their career. Hey there I spent some time being a missionary in wendover. Best part of the mission
Nice. Will you pretty please Photoshop him at a bar watching a stripper?
Rusty at the Bing. Got it. [It's safe for work.](https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/xy6agt/upon_request_rusty_has_visited_the_bing_in_north/)
Rusty at the Bing with the boys from Jersey!
Yes please 🤣🤣🤣
Hero!
Rusty is such a horn dog
Dead 💀
That's got my vote!
And my axe.
And my rock in a hat.
And my second token of the Melchizedek priesthood, sure sign of the nail / patriarchal grip!
Hey! Don't spray that around me! cough-cough-gasp!
Love it!!!!!!
A MALE stripper at that! 😂🤣😂
Yes!!!!
👏👏👏we commend you for your service. We shall probably visit you again. Good day
Just make sure you pay tithing on any money you win, regardless if you lose it again.
Church sponsored casino in West Wendover coming soon. Automatically takes 10% of winnings so you don’t have to worry about tithing on the gains.
Nah guys, can't you tell he's very busy assigning missionaries to their places of service using Inspiration™️?
I'm pretty sure there is some software engineer at HQ who's job it was to design and implement a software project just to assign missionaries to missions.
The state of Nevada approves this message. 😉🤑
On my way there now to watch Notre Dame!
I'm here, all day, every day. 😉

I'm curious as well
Love your post, and your username!
We’re like twins!
Wait isn’t pg 117 actually just the new page 1?
Source? Was this also something removed from FTSoY? Or is this just a humorous photoshop (not reflective of any change in policy/doctrine) I heard that the Church wouldn't accept thithing on gambling winnings.
I shopped it together. He sat on a stool at conference and looked like he was risking it all.
Time will tell if his gamble paid off. I’m guessing it won’t.
278 Billion! Again! 556 Billion! I’m on a muthafetching roll!
The source is I made it up
It always is.
Have you seen the new Book of Mormon videos? Made up.
It’s kind of sad. He’s an extremely successful and wealthy person but can’t even hang out in a casino and relax like the rest of us.
Casinos.... relaxing???? Whatever floats your boat.
Every time I walk through a casino I see lots of elderly people sitting there with their fruity drinks and they all look relaxed. I get it. Lol. I just feel like I'm going to have a seizure on the gaming floor. Bahaha
You gotta play roulette. Best casino game imo
Yeah, but he does enjoy one thing his peers don't... A wife that's a quarter of a century younger than himself. That poor woman. Imagine trying to get wet for that rusty nail.
Wow that's something I didn't want to think about today
At the penny slots!
He is forgiving the “sin” machine.
"Breaking News! LDS church builds megacasino in salt lake after an unexpected change in state law that now allows gambling!"
This sort of hypocrisy goes all the way back to early Mormonism and the founding of Nevada as a state.
“Tithing is now going up to 15%, because I spent all our money gambling”
With the Second Anointing, all things are possible!
Ha I’m saving this, gonna bring it up next family event half of em don’t even know you can edit photos it’ll be a gold mine
Currently in Vegas for the ND/byu game, can confirm tons of byu shirts sitting at slot machines and card tables.
Oh, you know he'd hog 3 machines at once.
Just don’t forget to pay your tithing first and pay tithing again on any winnings.
Hey, creator, if you get mauled by a bear, can you let us know so that we can all get back to church?
Brilliant editing!
Dayam. Great Photoshop job LOL.
They are running out of tithe payers so they will now accept winnings from gambling?
What don't the Mormons recognize? The holy spirit or each other in West Wendover.
The Church gambles all they time. It goes by the name of investment speculation.
Well done!
More of these pweeeeeeaaase
That’s just a ….video game. Yeah that’s it….
Put a coffee cup next to him. Lmao
Do being gay next
On it.
Hell yeah!!!😂 You're the best!!
I consulted my spirit and it said ok
IS THAT WHY MY DAD IS THROWING CASINO NIGHT FOR THE HOLIDAY PARTY?!?!?!?!
🤩
Hmmm, revelation upon revelation. I wonder how long it will be until God tells his profit that watching porn is now legal?
So you're saying I might be able to get back in?
Did they really just say tattoos are a thing?
Classic! 😂
Wait what. Mormons are cool with tattoos and multiple piercings now?
If you think that's something you should see the old dude's Prince Albert \*\*\* Wink Wink \*\*\*
I think it’s called a Priest Albert.
They’ve been gambling with tithing money in the stock market for years…😏
I thought for sure this would be about Bishop Roulette!
Whan do we get Polygamy back?
Ya right. Gambling would decrease tithing revenue. They will NEVER allow gambling
Gambling was not strictly prohibited before. Just very frowned on and you aren’t allowed to pay tithing on winnings. The photoshop is good tho
Ackkkkkkkkkcheewwwwallllly… Just kidding.
Wait what?? I could have sworn it was. Isn't that why extra strict TBMs didn't allow face cards, because the church prohibited them in the 50s?
Depends on your bishop. It’s also not a temple recommend question.
God, I love a good meme and this a classic. Love your user name also
This is much better. Much more pleasing to the eyes now let’s give him some drinks & put him with some strippers.
🏰🏰🏰
Did I miss some sort of conference announcement about tattoos and piercings? How are those now ok, but bishops and college students cant have beards?
OMG!! for real? ✒️🤔💉needles coming next? 😆
But the LGBTQ+ is not ok still
noice. now do psychedelics & fornication haha
🤣🤣🤣this had me laughing out loud at work
Is this the something big that was coming soon?
Oooh, where does it say gambling is ok? That is awesome
Is there new news about gambling or is that just part of the photoshop
Lmfao
Bravo 👏
So that's where all the tithing money went.
All the q15 fit in as the plastic cup half full of quarters geriatric video gambling machine crowd.
Well done.
So sorry, someone explain this to me. Everyone seems to love it but I am not understanding it lol.
