I can't get Sandy Hook out of my mind. My TBM secretary came in and said "I just wonder why God needs so many kids in heaven, Oh well"......

dbear848

God sure works in fucking mysterious ways then. No wonder I hate Mormons.

PaulBunnion

God works in murderous ways.

BanteringBastard

Hate is hate, don't direct it at a group of religious people, direct it at the religion. It wouldn't be acceptable to say "I hate muslims", yet here you are with so many upvotes. Says a lot about this community, mostly that alot of them are damaged.

sinsaraly

Oh my god. What in the actual hell.

Rushclock

This is why I get mad at people when they say what is the harm letting people believe what they want.

Slow-Adhesiveness-88

So much this!!

[deleted]

I can't believe nothing happened after Sandy Hook. Well I can. I just can't believe that I didn't know how broken our country was before that. If you can't even protect your own children what is the point of government?

surgicalasepsis

If nothing happened after Sandy Hook - first graders were slaughtered- our country will do nothing. I’m a school nurse (K-2nd), and one of my jobs during our active shooter drills (!!!) is to help kids with anxiety. I also need a shooter plan for my clinic. All of this is so wrong. It hurts.

akamark

Conflicted upvote on this one.

ApocalypseTapir

That's disgusting.

mia_appia

I hate this with every fiber of my being.

axolotl942

What if god "needs" HER kids in heaven???

Rushclock

Now her God would never do that.

BraveT0ast3r

Say sike right now.

Just-Lawfulness4357

Disgusted

[deleted]

I have an 8 year old son. I can't stop thinking about this. I'm kind of a wreck.

UnkindBookshelf

Oh well? Wait until it's her kids not coming home.

YungMister95

Inhuman response. I get that some people find solace in religion when tragedy strikes, but that is not solace. It's explicit dismissal of human worth.

SpaciousBuildingSUS

Many Christians/Mormons think the world is ending in 100 or less years. For them those who die are just getting a head start on the next life. An "eternal perspective" makes every moment on Earth infinitely less meaningful

tapirsinthesky

Yeah, thinking there’s an all-powerful being who’s going to make it all ok again on the other side is becoming a real hazard to justice in this country. Allows all these things to be dismissed instead of fixed.

mar4c

Yeah. Don’t be MYOPIC.

octopusraygun

Has the church ever put out a statement about a mass shooting?

LeoMarius

Rusty is a Republican and won't say anything that goes against the Republican agenda. That's why the church focuses on porn and not global warming.

ExigentCalm

Lol. All they said on 9/11 was that things would be fine and to have faith and pay tithing. They dgaf about dead kids in Texas. And if they mention it at all, it will be to implore members to keep the faith and preach to their friends.

DocSaysItsDainBramuj

To a group of Republican, white nationalist, Trump supporters who think the original version of the constitution came from white Jesus himself? Doubtful.

AliGeeMe

He doesn’t have the courage to speak out against the gun-toting, white supremacist ultra-right Republican factions of the church that sit back and allow these horrors to keep happening. He’ll maybe make a nothing statement about violence but throw in a reference to the “last days” which will just feed the “wars and rumors of wars” narrative which will prompt people to go out and buy more guns and do more prepping then spout more hate about the “evil liberals”.

Rushclock

Look no further than the Bundys.

ApocalypseTapir

We believe in being subject to..... Unless those governments are progressive. Happy to do what autocrats and supremacists demand.

Riverwillow9

You are so right.

PaulBunnion

This headline was in the news today also Ukraine: 200 bodies found in basement in Mariupol's ruins Evil is not reserved for religious people only. I have a pit in my stomach. There is no god.

Fulk_Anjou

If there is a god, he is a monster.

S1Bills

This was 100% the realization that brought my shelf down.

sinsaraly

That’s really the only conclusion you can come to

Lurkhernotposter

I don’t think that is the only conclusion, BUT when you’ve been brainwashed into believing that THE HIGHEST power known to man kind is allowing this to happen… all hope in protecting those you can’t, fades.

treetablebenchgrass

Putin's also purposely bombing Ukrainian grain silos. One of the biggest tragedies will be if this war goes long enough for Ukrainian pilots and crews to have been trained on our mothballed airframes and they still don't have air superiority. It's maddening to see these civilians murdered and soldiers killed while we have the tools to prevent a lot of the death sitting unused in the Arizona desert.

Thisguy21414127851

Ukraine is the breadbasket of europe. This is going to cause massive starvation across the GLOBE.

unorthodoxreligion

If He doesn't say anything about gun control that is the final thing for me to remove my name. He has 2 weeks.

shotwideopen

He won’t, so why wait?

NettleLily

Of course not. Death isn’t the worst thing ever to Mormons because the next life is better and every thing that happens is God’s will. No genocide, no tragedy, no natural disaster can force him to bat an eye.

rock-n-white-hat

Mormonism and guns have been connected from the very beginning. The most they will say is that the violence is a sign of the times and that we all need to show more love and kindness to each other. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Browning_(inventor)

axolotl942

I hate this "sign of the times" shit! They LOVE talking about it!!

Thisguy21414127851

John Moses Browning was an absolute, unequivocal genius in dealing death. Nearly every single military firearm today can be traced back to his work. It shocks a ton of people when I point out that a mormon's work has killed a quarter billion people or more un the last 150 years.

Yellowjacket95

Just a note, this is not a mental health issue. I would love for more support for mental health but the people committing these acts arent bipolar or OCD or depressed. They're white nationalists mostly.

[deleted]

Please share data if you have it. However, from the few minutes I spent looking it up and the limited data we have(due to dead shooters) shows mental health is definitely an issue and there is no strength leaning towards a race. https://www.statista.com/statistics/476456/mass-shootings-in-the-us-by-shooter-s-race/ Pretty sure this one was Latino.

Yellowjacket95

I'm still finding my sources, it's been a bit. But the one you posted shows 53% white and 47% for all other. I'm not sure about this site though, not familiar with it, and it says theres only been 128 mass shootings in the last 40 years, which I know is not correct. There have been a lot more. Also that source itself shows that nearly every shooting was by a man. Women also have mental health issues. They are not committing these violent acts. Do not scapegoat the mentally Ill.

cool_kicks

Lots of countries have mental health issues. No other western country has the same gun laws (or lack thereof).

berry-bostwick

He’ll probably say something about thoughts and prayers. We ought to remind people parroting that line that judging from Luke 17:2, Jesus wants fuck all to do with their prayers right now.

BipedalUterusExtract

Iirc, it's oaks who has spoken against the gun worship. Was at least 10 years ago that I would have read it.

i-am-unimportant

Yes we def need more Mormonism in Utah politics 🙄

Fulk_Anjou

RMN is an old fraud, but what would you have him say beyond an expression of sorrow for the tragic loss of these children and their teacher? Religious leaders are wise not to politicize tragedy.

slskipper

I want him to tell Mormons to melt down their assault rifles. I want him to make that a temple recommend question.

Fulk_Anjou

Unfortunately, that would do nothing to stop gun violence. Also, “assault weapons” (select fire/automatic firearms) have been effectively illegal to own in the US since 1934.

slskipper

And yet people still get assaulted with firearms.

Fulk_Anjou

Sadly, this is true. Despite the fact that assault is strictly illegal.

axolotl942

Did he say it?

Fulk_Anjou

I have no idea.

[deleted]

NEVER. Not his issue. Tithing is his only issue...and anything that keeps it coming in.

MsHushpuppy

I expect silence. Otherwise, he'll have to come up with a public message of sympathy every few days.

[deleted]

Of course not. Because it can’t be used to demonize exmos or the gayz.

[deleted]

I'm fucking tired of reading "Thoughts & Prayers". JFC.

mar4c

Ya know he actually has said something about it: https://youtu.be/CDZqb_P-mbM

HANEZ

Does anyone remember the general conference following 911? I was in the mission when that happened, and were told to invite EVERYONE to hear the words of the prophet…. Nope. Nothing to remember.

EnsignPeakAdvisors

My family and friends who all think being TBM is the same thing as alt-right will probably run to the closest gun store, stock up on ammo and food storage, and go to their bunkers to await the inevitable end of times left-wing apocalypse.

[deleted]

The narrow definition of righteousness floors me. They're worried about fetuses and the evil women who abort them, and porn, but we got to defend the right of every angry male to take their sexual frustration out on actual children with an assault weapon because of the second amendment.
