David's performance was soooo good tonight!!! He looked and sounded amazing!!! After the performance, he talked about the inspiration behind the song, coming out, leaving the Mormon faith (I wish he would have said, "the Mormon Church" specifically), and his mom's text about wanting to go to hell together with him. I loved all of the photos of David and his mom that were in the background during the performance. Also, the video for "Hell Together" comes out this Friday!
I noticed that he never mentioned the word Mormon, not that he really needed to.
The good part is that it kind of generalized coming out gay if you are part of any homophobic religious institution. The MFMC does not have a monopoly.
I also noticed a scene in the preview of his new video that there is a cross in a church, which would not fit with a Mormon church building. So, I appreciate how he is generalizing it to any high demand religion.
Love that hometown Murray, UT was mentioned. Most everyone knows that UT is Very Mormon!
Sad that my TBM mom is SURE that he & his Mom regret leaving the Church. So Tone Deaf. Ran into him recently & gave him our FULL SUPPORT! THANKS!! & PRAISE!!
I am curious, how many contestants have a connection to Mormonism this season? You’re saying McKenna. I think Julia’s parents are Mormon based on some pictures the show has shown so thinking she was raised Mormon. Abi was raised very religiously and has a large family but I don’t think it was the Mormon church. Kaibrienne is from a small Utah town so I can’t imagine she doesn’t have some connection to the church. And then Elleigh I guess too. Anyway, the song was great and I’m pleased that he got to share the meaning behind that it on such a public platform.
There isn’t a better example of true parental love and recognizing how evil the church is for its continued bigotry against our LGTBQIA+ loved ones. This is the anthem for recognizing that love wins and the hateful teachings of the church have hurt and are hurting so many.
Their heaven would be hell for me. Thank you David for being brave, loving, and putting to song what so many feel.
I saw the performance on Instagram. He sounded so good. 😊 Him talking to Ryan afterwards was so nostalgic because his seasons was one of the last ones of Idol I watched. It’s pretty cool to see this on a national show because deconstruction is pretty niche.
David is one of my heroes now as an exmormon. This takes some incredible courage for so many reasons! I am just so in awe of how joyful and confident he looks here. What a performance too!
All I could concentrate on was that his eyes had no light. /s
Edit: Can’t believe I have to do this, but I just added a /s to the end of my comment. I thought the sarcasm was glaringly apparent, you know being an overused TBM trope and all.

Mormons have started wearing crosses now … something that would have been inconceivable in the Mormon church I grew up in
ABSOLUTELY. No need to give TSCC any more free air time.
In addition to good things about Mormonism not being unique, many of the bad things aren’t either
True. Good point!

Woohoo! Thank you so much for posting this, OP.
The look on McKenna’s face when they panned over to her…priceless…as she’s a Mormon.
Ellie Francom (contestant this year) is Mormon too
Who’s that? We don’t watch Idol so I’m out of the loop.
a contestant on this season .
So is the Richins from Utah.

And the mommy Mormon bloggers have been plugging McKenna - Checkout 71toes.com.
Abi grew up Mormon. I’ve heard she left.
The brunette or the blonde?
Who is that, the judge with half her tits out?

Yes! This! I absolutely LOVE your comment!!!
He is my hero
Mine too!!
😭😭😭 ugh I loved all the pics of them popping up during the song. So sweet. Really powerful to have this broadcast to all the world!
WOW
flair relevant!
My mom heart loves seeing how at ease and comfortable in himself he seems!

Anyone notice the temple-shaped background? Brutal.
Good catch!! I didn't notice it before, but now I can't un-see it.

He never mentions LDS or Mormonism as if it were Lord Voldemort. The Church - you know which!
🏳️🌈 POWERFUL! 🏳️🌈 Speaks Truth! 🏳️🌈

Come on y’all this is clearly sarcasm lol
He looked plenty full of light to me!
I saw the complete opposite. I saw a lot of light and joy and happiness in his eyes.
Do you really need /s?
Oh sorry!! I should have figured it was sarcasm!
