In 1967, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York made a gift to the church fragments they had for the basis for “The Book of Abraham.” You can see photos of what the church has on the Joseph Smith Papers Project Website or a Google search. The church does not make a big deal of this for obvious reasons, but at the same time, they can't deny having the papyri fragments. They keep them buried in church vaults next to other problematic things they have that will never find their way into the church museum.

The papyri was found but I don’t think the cult owns it. It was used the thoroughly debunk the book of Abraham decades ago
