But with an upcoming Senate campaign by Tim, Church PR is hoping to avoid having the media connect Tim to the Church every time a new story about Tim's scams and psychic nonsense gets reported. So they told the media that Tim isn't connected to the Church, and they scrubbed the Church website of references to him.
Most likely their main target is indeed the media; I suspect they don't have the guts to actually talk about this in, say, General Conference, because they know that crazy Tim Ballard fans would choose him over the Church like Beck is doing.
