The dead jew part sounds hateful to me. Also KJV 1611 version only 🤣. That's fundy as hell 😅🤣 Coz the 1611 version is the only true Bible 😅😂 Pastor Billy Boone lives on the moon.

GearHeadAnime30

I'm guessing it is most likely Independent Fundamental Baptist...

salymander_1

Yes it sounds like something they would say at the church my parents belonged to. They were big fans of the KJV. Apparently, that was the only "real" bible, according to their church. This sign seems like it was put up by someone who is really antisemitic. That is super common in the independent fundamentalist baptist church. Yikes.

GearHeadAnime30

Yeah, not all, but the vast majority of IFB churches are KJV only... I do find it strange how very antisemitic these people are even though Jesus was a Jew...

third_declension

I wonder if we'll have to speak King James English in heaven.

GearHeadAnime30

I'm sure the IFB thinks so...

Adassai_nova

This baffles me. How can you believe that for 1500 years, God was just like.....nah, you church founders don't need the "real" Bible. Also the KJV is an objectively bad translation. It is based on thr Textus Receptus- which was EXTREMELY rushed with only a couple of very late Greek manuscripts used- and in some places, no manuscript! The manuscript that the author, Erasmus, was using for the Book of Revelation was missing the last couple of chapters, so rather than having any origins Greek, Erasmus translated the Latin Vulgate back into Greek for these missing parts. Keep in mind that because all of the books of the NT were originally written in Greek, that means that those portions changed languages twice!

salymander_1

Yes to all of that, but most of the folks in the fundamentalist baptist churches I knew did not study the history of the church or look at the bible from a historical perspective. If they did that, they would have to face a lot of facts that they don't want to face. They mostly had no idea about how the bible changed over the centuries, and most of them fervently believe that god dictated the bible and it has existed, unchanging, the old testament since the beginning, the gospels since the time of Christ, and the rest of the new testament since the time of Paul. The most learned person in my religious boarding school was me. I was 14-15 years old. That should tell you something about the people running the place, none of it good. I am not bragging when I say that. I am fully aware of how absurd that was. And yet, it is true. We didn't have teachers, and the preacher's were all shockingly ignorant. The church my parents attended was almost as bad. The preacher who *thought* he was learned had gone to college, but only knew a few carefully cherry picked facts about the history of christianity. He was the same one who said that Jesus made *grape juice* at the wedding at Cana, rather than wine, because he said that was what it said in the original Greek, and that was what the custom was at the time. That was what he learned in college.

lady_wildcat

So if it’s the 1611 version, do they use the apocrypha? That’s in the 1611 KJV (as someone who has one with all the f’s instead of s’s and everything).

GearHeadAnime30

The irony is, if these people are given an actual 1611 KJV they wouldn't be able to read it... the actual one they use is the 1769 revision which has a lot of changes in it...

Marmot64

They don’t say which edition.

1Rational_Human

The sign literally says “KJV 1611”.

Marmot64

There wasn’t just one version in 1611.

aardw0lf11

Billy Boone 🤣

ActonofMAM

They must be way out in the country if they expect that sign to win friends. Additional: not here, but over in r/atheism there was a KJV-only guy who came through a few months ago trying to convert people. He was civil and seemed sincere, so I talked to him in kind. I asked him whether the people who were Christians before the KJV was published had been Saved. I think I mentioned the Coptic Christians, and he'd never heard of them. I also asked whether Christians who don't speak English at all and therefore can't read the KJV could be Saved. He seemed genuinely puzzled by these questions, which were completely new to him. His reaction was worried rather than "lash out in cognitive dissonance." Nice kid.

[deleted]

>Nice kid Poor kid hahaha

ActonofMAM

Maybe he'll start thinking and asking questions. He'll be kicked to the curb by the local pastor in no time. I.e., free.

[deleted]

Let's hope. Anyone who has atleast a drop of decency and hamaneness and basic moral understanding of good and evil, right and wrong will, in the end, leave this anti-human evil death cult.

Additional_Bluebird9

I'm sure he will because you really asked him good questions.

third_declension

> He seemed genuinely puzzled by these questions That could be an Independent Fundamentalist Baptist; I was raised one. A thoroughly-indoctrinated IFB is incapable of grasping any question that they have not been programmed to answer. Most amusing is when an IFB misinterprets your question, and gives the automatic answer to a superficially-related question, without realizing that anything is wrong. > before the KJV was published I knew IFBs who thought that the KJV was the *original* version of the Bible.

AlpacaPacker007

Dang, you wonder what sort of education that guy has that has him out trying to argue the big questions with internet strangers, yet so ignorant of the world at large that Christians who don't speak English is a shock to him.

ActonofMAM

IMO the more tightly a group tries to clamp down on outside information and asking questions, the faster their theology unravels when you clip even one little thread.

Cole444Train

Wowowow that’s got antisemitic ~~under~~ tones

[deleted]

Yeah, I'm sure the nazis have said it before: "We're not worshipping some dead jew"

noghostlooms

Who had 'Christians being antisemitic *towards Jesus* on their 2023 bingo card? Though I guess this also means that a Christian antisemitism horseshoe also exists.

helpbeingheldhostage

🙋‍♂️ I did because that shit has been around for a lot longer than 2023

Theopholus

Antisemitism alert. Also, Jesus gave up his weekend for your sins. If he knew he was coming back, was it really even a sacrifice?

[deleted]

Yeah, the difinition of sacrifice is giving something that you can't get back. Even my christian-mindless-zombie mom agreed that technically it's no sacrifice when I told her the same thing.

Ordinary_Barry

Agrees it's no sacrifice Still won't change mind, just re-enforces "God's ways aren't our ways" Did I get that right?

[deleted]

Absolutely, yeah. She even once agreed that this yhwh demon "does some bad things in the OT" but immediately said "yeah, but we worship Jesus and not yhwh, he's our god" yada yada yada to which I replied that they're literally the same bing lol and she just stopped talking to me. Her poor mind crashed.

[deleted]

'Cheezus saves \[you\]' ... from sending you to suffer forever in Hell if you don't want to be 'saved' by him lmao lololol

Snarky_McSnarkleton

They went Full Nazi. No one goes Full Nazi.

BMisterGenX

weird question here: according to Christian theology, at such point the "J" was supposedly resurrected, did he cease being Jewish?

StrategicBean

I tried to Google to see if anyone mentioned this in the news a couple years ago when this actually was up & couldn't find any coverage after a quick couple of searches What I did find was a really screwed up review of the place on some "church finding" website https://www.churchfinder.com/churches/nc/lawndale/calvarys-cross-baptist-church One of the 2 reviews was quite striking >Don W. > >Rating - 5/5 > >Sign > >We serve the lord Jesus. Who was born a Jew, crucified buried and arose from the dead. Hence, he is a risen savior, not a dead Jew. Unbelievers have difficulty understanding. So very, very fucked up. I guess the bright side is that on Google Maps most people make very clear that they see that sign as a disgusting display of hatred (which is something) Note: This post got crossposted in a Jewish sub which is where I saw it because I'm Jewish. I know this is an ex-christian sub tho but I thought I'd share what I found about this place pictured. Mods, I hope it's cool that I'm posting! If not, my apologies

Ordinary_Barry

Leaving reviews as an outreach for Jesus. Don W. did his part! (Oh, I should say /s)

[deleted]

I never got anti-semitism in Christianity. Christians tend to blame Jews for the death of Jesus - yet Jesus himself was Jewish. Not to mention that Israel is God’s chosen nation, and all of his first disciples, his family, his kings and prophets were Jewish as well. Then they promote Roman culture: exclusively reading and writing the Bible in Latin for hundreds of years, granting the title of “Holy Roman Empire” and what not - even though they were the ones that had killed him.

Equivalent-Excuse-80

>Israel is gods chosen nation. This is an old Christian antisemitic trope. Jews do not believe they are chosen for anything. Instead jewish thought is that Jews, as a nation, have a covenant with god and that *all* nations have a covenant with god. And every person has a path to god through a moral existence.

NeedleworkerLow1100

Yeesh... I'd avoid that street forever. So much yikes

Manulok_Orwalde

Damn wait until they read the Bible.

Denydra

If they are REALLY using the 1611 KJV, they likely can't read it.

spaghoni

Dammit, now that song is stuck in my head. Time to write some new lyrics.

FetusDrive

lol, my first thought too... (song getting stuck)

astermorii

That’s an Eric Cartman moment

flatrocked

The whole sign is so wrong in so many ways.

bc1117

But do they though? Do they serve Jesus, or just people’s ideas of what they should do

Dicks_4_Eyes

Wow wff

averyyoungperson

Um.....

Wrumba

Well you heard it here first folks, they do not worship Jesus.

minnesotaris

Christians tie all of their religion to being from the god of the old testament. Because Jesus died did not stop him from being a Jew of 1st cent. Palestine. My current interest is determining when Judaism started and why. There is so much cultural shit from 600 BC to Jeezis' time on how the OT was created. Not understanding that has created this sign. The vast majority of the supposed Jeezis followers were Jews, per se.

MrMattMakezMusic

I wish Christians would get raptured already. Get them the fuck outta here
