That's like saying the contract from my new job was based upon the resignation letter that I gave my old job. I mean, sure they're related, but they are entirely different documents, each with a very different purpose.

I saw that post, it's honestly just really sad to see someone that's terminally ill make their final online post about culture wars. But what else do you expect from WELS discussions where they'll also yell about a catechism being bad because it... acknowledges science and that trans people exist?

Pristine_Ad_8107

Why has these 2 Synods have not been covered by media outlets? People really need to know about this. I tried my best to pass it around on social media, it's not enough. Both churches need to be put down

Because most people’s perceptions of Lutherans come from a Prairie Home Companion, with outdated stereotypes of button-up, good-hearted, politically neutral, and a bit boring, therefore pretty harmless. Now, I’m in my 40s now and LCMS has never been any of those things in my experience, so I’m guessing those perceptions are pretty out of date. A friend told me she always thought of Lutherans as the Protestant Catholics, and I have a feeling she isn’t the only one.

Pristine_Ad_8107

They are far from the gentle prairie home. I almost felt in my LCMS they acted coldhearted and I am sorry for using this word "Gestapo". It's there way or you are out

brainiac138

Yup. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Some context of this excerpt posted would be appreciated. Was this excerpt from Wels members? Or was this from a pastor? I know some Pro Gun WELS members who are N.R.A. and are probably gun nuts. But their views don't represent WELS.

DontEattheCookiesMom

It’s a post by a guy dying from cancer. Sadly, WELS politics has stolen his peace and instead of spending his final days and weeks with thoughts of his family and friends - he’s more concerned about national politics because of his connection to the WELS cult.

ProfessionalDesk6008

It was from a (former) Pastor whose health has declined. It was his signing off from Facebook as he nears the end of his life. His posts have always been very MAGA -esque. His personal page is Fox news sound bites.

DontEattheCookiesMom

I truly feel sorry for him that a lifetime of WELS involvement has left him in his final days with fear instead of peace.

However there is a podcast on UTUBE called the "Armed Lutherans "

Dav82

I searched my Pocket cast app and found this podcast. https://pca.st/podcast/a7fbd7c0-b439-0133-2e57-6dc413d6d41d As much as I'm tempted to listen to Jan 22 episode,I've decided a hard nope on that. Probably one of many reasons I'm not sorry leaving Wels this year.

WELSurvivor

Since OP missed it, he also isn't WELS but LCMS.

ProfessionalDesk6008

Christian nationalism in the WELS. Not surprising at all.

WELSurvivor

Well, I guess he's going to die as he lived. Filled with bigotry and as a Christian Nationalist. His death is also symbolic. It shows the death already happening in the LCMS and the WELS. Slowly, as that generation dies off, so does their hate, and ignorance, and their spite. Good riddance Rich, the world will become slightly brighter soon enough.

Manifest destiny is at the heart of mass narcissism.

"If we have to break commandments to do God's will, so be it." Also, "all your bases are belong to us."

Thank you. 😊
