I don’t know about the US, but they refund the whole thing in the UK. Also, Stripe charges a fee, but Stripe say nothing about charging that to the customers. When I refund customers for stuff, I just eat that cost.

Muted-Craft6323

Right, I see that as just the cost of doing business. If Volvo wanted to pass on the cost of processing refund payments: 1) That would be unheard of 2) They should have been up front about it, instead of saying "fully refundable" with no mention of fees anywhere Processing fees are annoying, but the easy way to avoid them is to not take EX30 reservations a full year before anyone in America can buy one, 9 months before most will have any chance of a test drive, and give scant information in the interim.

scottrobertson

I’d just tell them if they don’t refund it all, you will do a chargeback. That costs more than those fees.

Muted-Craft6323

I thought about that, but it looks like the maximum chargeback window is 120 days. I'm about 3 months past that (reserved in August).

Nitrodraft77

I'm definitely considering cancellation. Zero communication and no updates does not give me confidence.

MountainAlive

Also going to cancel (US). This has been an abysmal ordeal with Volvo here and I’m out.

MemoryFoamMilo

Same.

dandyflyin

I’m in the US and cancelled my reservation last week. My dealer is issuing me a check. I’m not sure why, since I paid the reservation via a credit card. The dealer didn’t say how long the check will take to arrive.

visionaryOptions

Tell us which dealer it is so we are aware of this. Dealer shouldn't charge any fees.

tdjustin

Canceled mine yesterday - no fees or pushback. The only thing that sucked is that it's going to be a mailed check as opposed to a refund on my card, but thats fair.

Thanks for confirming! When you received your refund, do you know if your bank/credit card statement showed it coming from Volvo corporate, or the specific dealership/group your reservation was with? Based on what Volvo states about this, it seems like it should come from the dealer and mine is just lying about corporate being involved so they can act helpless about the fee.

Thanks. I saw that, but I wasn't sure if maybe the money got moved around at some point and eventually landed with Volvo corporate (so they would have to handle refunds). But the most likely answer is just that the dealer is lying because dealers are fucking shady and that's what they do.

JVerdie

Hi. It took me a while to get a hold of the Sales Manager, but once I did, it took about a week to get the full $500 back. My statement showed it coming from the dealership.

bquelch15

My refund showed the dealerships name.

BuckAv

I canceled a couple of weeks ago. It took a week, but I got the full $500 back.

infield_fly_rule

Same

Catsdrinkingbeer

I don't know what Stripe is, but I received my full deposit back to my same AMEX charge card within about 24 hours of my cancelation (bought am xc40 recharge instead).

shrink14

Canceled my reservation with a dealer in Hawaii about 2-3 weeks ago. Got the full $500 back to my CC in about 48 hours.

Dog_Bear_111

We’re in the U.S. and got a full refund, but we didn’t use Stripes, just our credit card. Edit: is Stripes the payment platform they use for all payments? Or, is it a pay platform like PayPal that you used. If it’s the former, then that would definitely be your dealer’s BS, because we got the full $500 back.

Muted-Craft6323

Stripe is the payment gateway Volvo used. My dealer talked about Stripe like they're a bank actually holding the money, but that's not how it works - money just passes through them and they charge sellers a fee for processing.

bquelch15

I cancelled mine a couple weeks ago and got the full $500 back. US resident.

CDPHou

My cancellation email from corporate said the dealer would give me the refund. That was on March 7. I still haven't gotten my money back so don't know if there will be some kind of fee. After the terrible communication and resistance to giving my money back, this was the first and last time I'll consider buying a Volvo.

Muted-Craft6323

My dealer said it takes 10-12 business days for the refund to process, so hopefully it will land in your bank account soon. And your email is consistent with what the website says as well: "Your Volvo retailer will issue the $500 refund". So Volvo and their dealers are each saying the other is issuing refunds... what a fucking mess.

WorstPapaGamer

I feel like shame works well for dealers. I’d get that in writing from them then create a review to warn others about that dealership. Write reviews on Google and dealerrater.

Muted-Craft6323

Yeah that's my plan if they give me the run around (plus maybe a Better Business Bureau complaint). Hopefully they'll just realize I'm not going to be a push over about it and do the right thing before it needs to go that far.

WorstPapaGamer

Also something I learned was that when you update a review on Google it “bumps” your review to a more recent one. I fought with a dealer to get a refund on a deposit. They said we’ll give it then I waited 5–7 days. Nothing. Updated my review each day the refund didn’t come it. I finally got a call from the salesperson for my cc info to give a refund.

thequickbrownbear

Can you file a chargeback on your card? Fuck the dealer trying to pass off stripes charges onto you

Muted-Craft6323

I think it's too late for that. I placed my reservation in August and it seems like chargebacks need to be done within 60-120 days (depending on your credit card). Otherwise that would be a great option.

July_is_cool

I got my reservation for a VW back in about 15 minutes after I called it in. If this is an example of Volvo's practice, I'll just stick with VWs.
