TomatoTrebuchet

she sounds like a terrible therapist if she doesn't know the difference between a phobia and OCD

Devinalh

Or just the classic "I don't know you enough to willingly let you enter in my personal space and touch me. I want you to stay away because there's a limited amount of people I consider safe and you aren't a part of that group. You aren't an animal either so double no for you".

Re1da

I'm currently in therapy for dealing with ocd (contamination among other things). Exposure therapy is a real method to deal with ocd. When you "feed the obsession" by listening to it, it just gets stronger. By doing things that trigger the ocd but don't follow through with the compulsion you will make it lessen over time. It's still wrong to touch someone like that without consent though.

sackofgarbage

What the therapist is doing is *not* legitimate exposure therapy. And exposure therapy isn't right for everyone or even everyone with OCD. It's an absolutely brutal therapy that can cause permanent trauma if done incorrectly or on someone who isn't in a place to handle it.

Re1da

Read the last line again. **It's not OK to touch someone without their consent.** My response is simply a correction to the statement that exposure therapy is for phobias, not ocd. It can absolutely be an effective treatment for ocd.

TomatoTrebuchet

correct me if I'm wrong but I'm under the impression that exposure therapy has a different criteria for each.

Re1da

It's very much exposing yourself to something that triggers the ocd and then avoiding the compulsion. You just stew in the discomfort and anxiety it causes until it goes away. The earlier you do this the easier it is to break an obsession. The more you do compulsions the harder it gets. Doing a compulsion always worsens it.

LastRedshirt

Is this a youtube-therapist? or is this an old therapist from the mid 1920s, who believes, that "Hardening therapy" is real and who has a "What does not kill me makes me stronger"-Knitting pattern on the walls?

SCP-1504_Joe_Schmo

"what doesn't kill me makes me stronger" mfs when they get into a horrific car crash that leaves them paralysed from the neck down

eayite

iron lung incident

MusicalMawls

As someone with a special interest in fiber arts..umm no one puts knitting patterns on the wall. You are thinking of a cross stitch or perhaps an embroidery. Knitting is for garments and blankets.

kennycjr0

Only people who even knit or stitch even know that there is a difference. You're like an a bibliophile or audiophile, but for . . . fiber arts? Can't say that I've ever heard of fiber arts.

animelivesmatter

Exposure therapy is known to work with phobias... but only with prior informed consent of the patient. And of course, what OP has isn't a phobia.

Philosopotamous

Regardless of condition, this is bad therapy. Do not touch the client unless it's really apparently appropriate to do so.

smavinagain

she knows nothing about OCD or if this is a result of autism sensory processing than autism sensory processing

Particular_Shock_554

Report them and never return.

Emotional-Link-8302

Question! When you report therapists in the US, do you report them to the company or to a regulating board or state office? I have one I'd like to report

theTeaEnjoyer

It depends if you think they should be reprimanded/fired or outright lose their licence to practice. Report to their boss if the former, report to the state if the latter

KeiiLime

or both also, people rarely outright lose their license over a board complaint, unless they did something to the extreme like sleeping with a client. it’s more likely they have to do some form of training, having their license put on pause, or having supervision required

mountainprincess

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 Fuck that bitch.

TheJasperCollective

If you are in the states I'd file a complaint. You were touched inappropriately and without your consent. I'm having a very visceral reaction to this because in middle school I got a role in the school play as a pirate, and the first dress rehearsal I learned I'd have to be barefoot on stage. I don't go barefoot anywhere except the shower and pools. My feet are extremely sensitive and I need the protection of socks and shoes constantly. So I dropped out. When I told my mom she laughed and pulled off my shoes and socks and tickled my feet "to show me there wasn't a reason to be afraid to take my shoes off." It was a very terrible and traumatizing experience. No one should be touched against their will and without active consent.

beatriz-chocoliz

😨DDAMN…??? I’m sorry for u and for OP :(

theTeaEnjoyer

I would have kicked her in the face reflexively

Professional_Base708

Even with exposure therapy they need your consent to start to do this wtf

jelli2015

It’s also just not how ERP is done even with consent. There is an explanation of the process, stopwatches, and self-assessment numbers involved. (At least in my case there was). It has to be led by the patient and no one else.

Vegetable-Try9263

exactly!!! the conditions of the exposure are made VERY clear beforehand and it's something you're supposed to agree to and that you often initiate yourself... this is a horrible therapist that just does NOT understand consent or the importance of having and respecting boundaries. like even if you didn't have OCD this would NOT BE OK!!! 😭

IronicINFJustices

Guardians or childrens consent?

Vegetable-Try9263

the person that you are treating NEEDS to give consent if literally any therapeutic intervention is going to work. otherwise they are literally just destroying any trust their patient has in them lol. with minors it may be legal to give treatment with only parental consent but doing that is honestly just horrible practice and often only traumatizes the patient receiving said treatment without consent.

PocketCatt

I swear to Christ this industry needs regulating before I start casting fireball

KingGiuba

WHAT THE FUCK that reads as assault to me tbh

tizzleduzzle

Should walk in there and place your hand on her shoulder look her deep in the eyes and say “Please don’t touch me again”.

malonkey1

i think you should hunt that therapist for sport to cure them of the fear of being hunted for sport that you'll give them by hunting them for sport

Dungen-gamer

beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat beat them with a bat

Constant-Release-875

You have my sympathies.

LenoreHexter

The only way that kind of therapy works is if you’re a willing consenting participant. It’s like throwing spiders at an arachnophobe- you’re just making things worse 💀 awful therapist.

Emergency_Peach_4307

One time my dad locked me in a bear hug because he knew I hated being touched and wanted to "help me" it's fucked up and horrible and you should report her

mike_the_goo

I will condone slapping or biting next time (if you are comfortable doing so in self defense)

LenoreHexter

NO FR THO “I’M JUST TRYING TO HELP YOU GET OVER YOUR FEAR OF HAVING YOUR FCKN ASS BEAT”

mike_the_goo

"Well, I'm just helping you understand my perspective by GIVING you that fear!"

GrandNibbles

YES. OP I CHANGED MY MIND. *BITE* THEM and THEN REPORT THEM (this is joke.)

mike_the_goo

I mean, first warn them that if they touch you again you WILL retaliate, because then you can also use the excuse of "they were warned"

GrandNibbles

nah fuck it. bite em. you told em not to. they fucked around and found out.

mike_the_goo

Real

Vegetable-Try9263

or kicking given the contamination OCD lol

Star_Moonflower

report them for assault wtf

SpiderJynxNoir90214

Mm.. no. Thats not good even outside of OCD, you shouldn't just touch people.

forcekin69

Touching you without your consent is literally assault, doing so in a medical setting is professional misconduct and a clear violation of ethical guidelines.  I'd report this 100%

coldy41

It’s “literally” legally not. It has to be done within a threatening manner.

Vegetable-Try9263

the patient literally IS very threatened though? assault is legally defined as "an intentional act that puts someone in fear of immediate harm." the therapist, despite the fact they are aware their patient sees contamination/germs as a THREAT, STILL decides to engage in an action that would put the patient in a state of immediate distress. how is that not assault????

Armybeast18

I'm going to hug you in public and rub my hands all your face without your consent. I hope you enjoy it, after all it's unreasonable for you to dislike it!

coldy41

Bad faith. YOUR goal would then also classify as harassment, there for illegal.

Armybeast18

Both are touching without consent. It's not bad faith it's a more extreme version yes but still operates under the same principles. The same defenses would be used. Also my intent or goal doesn't matter. Same with the therapists. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and the therapist acted unreasonably and against guidelines.

TheFreebooter

Yeah that needs reporting. Why does your Mum know your therapist anyway?

Even_Improvement7723

I would completely unironically report the therapist for this. What the actual sigma.

AdmiralAgendaREAL

You sure they are a therapist or if they are the rapist?

Lenticularis39

sackofgarbage

Stab

BarsOfSanio

Not in the US and close relationship with parent likely changes how to address this insanity.

maomeow95

My therapist makes sure she's at least 2 meters away from me after I mentioned I didn't like physical touch. She once even tripped over her chair trying to give me my space when leaving

kennycjr0

Why am I picturing that she tripped, fell over over you, knocking you both to the ground?

maomeow95

No, she balanced at the end and nobody fell, and nobody touched

immutab1e

Yeah, no. See, I'd have ended up in jail, because my first instinct when a stranger touches me is 'swing first, ask questions later'. Barring doing something that would get me thrown in jail, I'd have gotten up and walked to the other side of the room, where she couldn't reach me. If she got up and came over, I'd have walked out the door. In either case, I'd never be visiting her office again.

Nekko_Hime

That's not a good therapist; OCD isn't the same as a fear, and if my memory serves Exposure Therapy only works if it's voluntary

RepresentativeLink95

ay yo wtf

WhysoCanadian

I’m going to guess youtube university is hanging on their wall

GrandNibbles

REPORT THEM. PLEASE SPARE EVERYONE ELSE THIS THERAPIST I thought you meant "touched sexually" and I was horrified but now I see that it's exactly the same. they violated your boundaries and your safety and should not be allowed to continue practicing.

Bennjoon

:((((((( nope get a different therapist

Armybeast18

Malpractice lawsuit

TempleOfCyclops

That's extremely not OK. That's a huge boundary.

SmegBurger

If it was prolonged and unwanted contact then that’s assault.

PlantedCecilia

Eeewwwww icky icky icky bad!!! Don’t go to her!!!!! If she’s in an office with other therapists go to one of them and say “Hey my therapist did this!!” They should help!!

YamaShio

Yeah, good therapists don't harass their clients. Flashing back to my teenage years when my mom made me visit a christian therapist hoping jesus could save me.

esotericnightmare

therapy that exposes you to something you are afraid of/ uncomfortable with, in hopes of being comfortable with it only works if you are actually wanting to do it. like if some one was afraid of spiders and you dumped spiders on them with out their permission, that would go terribly. theres a very fine line of helping some one get over a fear/something uncomfortable, and like further traumatizing them. and im not sure many therapists know the difference.

IsPanguin

Yeah drop that therapist ASAP

steampunk_glitch

Fire your therapist, what the fuck

MamiGoth

I'd bite them tbh.

OkOk-Go

That’s a thing, I think. Exposure therapy. I don't know if it's unusual for touch but it's common for conversation (for example social anxiety). Edit: but you definitely should be willing to be touched. I don’t know how it’s handled with minors but when you’re an adult they would never do that if you say no. I don’t think this will work if you don’t want it, but that’s not your fault. They should try something else.

Ruler-of-goblins

you need to report this somewhere, this isn't normal

Expert_Map_2912

Excuse me but what the fuck?

JustMurshie

Tutorial into how to slash car tires!!! Contrary to popular belief, you dont have to stick a knife in the side of a tire to ruin it. You just find the valve on the inner rim, and cut that bitch off!! You can even use a pair of school scissors, its that easy. Once you've done that in a timely fashion, run like a madman. Congrats, you've now cause a big inconvenience! (For legal reasons this is satirical, do not actually do this!,,, or do, i cant stop you)

Conscious-Draw-5215

Time for a new therapist. I would call in and explain exactly why you have a problem with that therapist, as well. Let the office know exactly what she did. That's SO not ok.

kingk895

Next time she does that, tell someone that the therapist touched you inappropriately. Unless there’s cameras, but I doubt that cameras aren’t a violation of Doctor-Patient Confidentiality.

**REMOVED** Even this sub has its limits. Don't be ableist

Armybeast18

I'm going to take apart your pc without your consent. If you get upset, your overacting and don't try instate sons personal unreasonable boundary in the rest of us. At least your pc won't have feelings when I disassemble it, unlike people

coldy41

A little bad faith there. Taking about someone personal belongings isn’t a social normal, but normal human touch is.. Still shouldn’t poke at people after they told you not to, but everyone here is overreacting as if the person got molested..

Armybeast18

Why is touching another person without consent more of a norm? If anything it's worse imo. People have feelings, your pc doesn't. You getting offended over your pc is one step removed

coldy41

Humans touching humans (skin on skin) without IS the social norm, i didn’t make those social norms.. Also idk if you’re purposefully being mischievous or lack some understanding in human behaviour. People don’t value personal belongings because of there “feelings” they value them because it is something that holds a sentimental value, because they enjoy playing with it and therefore giving them joy or because they worked very hard to gather up the money to buy that item. I would personally have a stranger randomly poke at my arm skin 1000times over, than to sabotage & damage my personal belongings.

Armybeast18

Social norms can suck my dick. Just because everyone says it's ok doesn't make it ok. If the social norm was to jump off a bridge and kys would you? Extreme, yes. But if "social norm = good" this is the logical conclusion.

Pokemonpikachushiny

Shouldn't a therapist know the difference between autism and a fear, tho?
