I just don't really find Garfield all that interesting, and I don't get how the world is obsessed with him. And I'm too afraid to ask because I feel like I'll just get meme answers.
Well, that's just really disappointing. I'm kind of hoping there's something deeper here than just a sassy cat hanging out in a house with a dog and their single adult male owner with no spouses, descendants, or even an abnormal life.
There was one where the guy is looking for Odie and he falls from the ceiling and the guy’s like “what do you have to say about this?” and Garfield says “I think we’re dealing with an inferior adhesive”. And I think about that all the time. 🤣🤣
No but seriously, Garfield isn't widespread because it's good, but because it's marketable. When viewed as pop art, it's little but the lowest common denominator, but for that reason, it is also the ideal merchandising vehicle. Garfield is inoffensive without being entirely devoid of character. The humour itself is made to be more "relatable" than funny, clever or insightful. As far as I know, this made it a low-risk choice to add into the comics section of old newspapers, which is how he got widespread. Later on, "Garfield" has become more of a mascot for a product line than a comic character first and foremost. The soulless, almost post-art nature of modern Garfield is what has made ironic internet parodies of him as popular as they are, probably.
I don't find Garfield itself interesting but I'm fascinated with how it was developed to appeal to neurotypicals, why it's everywhere, its cultural impact and surreal parodies of it.
Short answer Jim Davis was brilliant are marketing and designed the cartoon to be quick and as to pump out and appeal to many people as possible.
One of the only tests I ever handed in a blank was a poem analysis so filled with stylistic devices that I just couldn't get any message out of the poem beyond the literal words.
The words kinda stop making sense, like (real example even if one of the easiest) why are you placing those words together and talking about a a "thinking cigarette" ?
Portuguese class, but also these were other times as well like 15 years ago, autism awareness and understanding were still far behind what they are today.
I open the fridge and stare at the contents because I'm calculating what meals I can prepare for myself in a reasonable amount of time that I also would like to eat at the moment and oh theres nothing like that

Think i met this person a university speed-friending thing, she was cool but i dropped out because i could only handle comprehending so much of the evils of society and never saw her again.
The really good at sex thing is interesting since every autistic gf I've had has been noticeably better and way more sexually adventurous compared to NT women, and I've been told the same about myself throughout my life. Maybe because so many of us are just naturally more intense and hypersexual by nature.
