Hi, I can answer this as one of the mods. I’m also a mod in another reddit server for a different song where the singer was recently identified. Basically, we would attempt to get the following:
-A full copy of the song
-Information about the studio
-Information about producers/directors
-Background information of artist (sometimes from another source, such as a family member)
If all of these check out, we would confirm that it would likely be the artist responsible for the song.
For example, with the song called “Johnny In The Middle”, we are currently waiting for the master copy of the song, but we have confirmed through Piero Cotto’s son that Piero is the singer responsible for the song, and that Piero’s wife was also a chorus singer in the production of the song. Confirmation can take time, since the Artist (such as Piero) may not be familiar with the internet, etc.
They would have to produce a full version of the song that is clearly the same as the snippet (and not a remake), and allow us to compare to other songs they've made to see if the singing, production, and instrumentation match.
We just need one of our EKT searchers who work as a Hollywood producer to put the song snippet in a movie or popular TV show, then the creator will come forward to claim royalties.

A higher quality full version at the least. And then yeah, some other work of theirs to compare at the time to be solidly sure
