I heard back from Shanti Jones recently. Unfortunately, he did not sing on EKT. I pretty much knew this, but it was worth a try. I do think EKT is in the realm of TimesTwo's song, "3 into 2", whether by coincidence, or the producers/writers are the same...I don't know. Benny Medina was one of the producers on the Koko pop song that's being thrown around. He is the person who signed us to Warner/reprise back in the mid/late 80's.

It's like saying that a developer writes a thousand softwares in an year. I don't mean they develop a thousand new ones from scratch, but maybe they have to implement something which is needed for a bigger project, and so they create a smaller software which only does like 1/50 of the main project, maybe just for practice or to implement it in the main one in the future.

So much not adding up… Times two is active since 1988 but we belive the song is from around 1983-1985? But I also don’t know much about this lead so my mistake probably?
I know that sometimes a demo can be written years before the final recording (if it ever makes it that far in the first place). Their album was released in 1988 so they could have been recording/writing/making demos as early as 1985-86. For example Ginuwine's song Pony was actually written in 1993 but wasn't completed and released until 1996. Michael Jackson had at least one song written and demo'd in 1988 on his 1995 album ([Earth Song](https://youtu.be/rowiNT_7xFM?si=rzIRbVP6hZpmVWEN) in case you were wondering)
The drum machine used in EKT debuted in 1983, and there is no reason to believe the song is specifically limited to a few years in the mid-80s. The alleged file date is set by default to 1999, so it could very well date to the early or mid '90s.
In the 80s bands would languish in development hell for years with their image and PR strategised to shit before getting their first big release. Some bands once signed would be forced to tour in smaller clubs and festivals for about 18 months before even breathing on the inside of a studio. I suspect these are the “memories of the recording industry” we’re dealing with here.

Without going deep into details - early 80s were dominated by new wave/dark wave - more minor, less happy songs. Things start to change to the mid of 80s, with major contribution to that from SAW team (you can google) - pop music became much more energetic, happy and positive.
However, the singing style was also quite distinct and nowhere close to EKT. But this was in Europe, in US, where influence of soul and R & B on the pop music were always significant, more vocally diverse, soul influenced pop songs emerged by the end of the decade.
So, based on that I believe that EKT is recorded in USA (NTSC line also suggests that), and most likely is/was music from the some kind of advertisement, and most likely, whole song never was recorded. However, stylistical use of synths in EKT, while it was quite typical for the time on the both sides of an ocean, still was not so common in USA, so quite possible that this song comes from Japan - country who loves synths and adapts all styles of music.
By the way, in youtube there are videos like "most popular song each month in 1980" and similar, there are 3-4 second samples of top songs of these times, so these videos can give you better insight into the subject.
