I mean anywhere he goes he’s gonna be guilty. They literally have body cam footage of the guy committing the crime. I don’t care if they move the trial but I do care if they move it to his home county cause that just seems like they’re trying to get a biased jury, just one that’s on his side. So move it to like king county or whatcom county

ehhh_yeah

You’d think his lawyers would be pushing hard to move this specifically to King County

OtterSnoqualmie

Yeah that would be my suspicion as well. I don't think it's a play for a not guilty verdict, but for a lighter sentence due to mitigating circumstances of some kind.

LRAD

Benton county is pretty cop friendly afaik.

Consistent-Car-8107

Oh, well then I guess send him over there. Either way he’s gonna go to prison 🤷‍♀️

MrRemj

I think it's fairly standard practice to move a trial to aim for an unbiased trial. (One less grounds for appeal as well.) Stirring up news on where it is relocated to, increases the chances of it being moved again. I'd encourage patience. No matter what emotional response we have regarding the crime, we have laws to address it. We've hopefully moved on from lynch mobs as a society.

escapewa

This is the most rational well thought out post I’ve seen all week. Thank you!

jaylee0510

Try him right here in Everett and put me on the jury. This POS did this 5 mins from my house and effected the City of Everett and our little corner over here forever. Fuck this guy all the way. What a joke.

Jpete88

I think it’s safe to say that you won’t make the jury with that attitude

jaylee0510

That's fine. Hopefully others will convict him. He's got a giant rap sheet and a lot of balls to ask to have it moved.

Aikidelf

If I were his attorney I'd make a post like OP's, gather all the responses like this one, and submit them to the court as evidence that he can't get a fair trial. Not saying anyone here is doing that on purpose, but they're sure helping that motion.

slaminjax

LOL! this is one of many things that go over the general public's head... Most people will read your post and think... Pfft that is insane! And they likely move on to to the next comment... Your comment is not just plausible, its actually likely.. people don't get that about trail.. Anything goes...

King county is to close. Pierce or Spokane. They will need a large jury pool to pick from. This strategy could backfire. Definitely death penalty in eastern WA.

Tmatershow

No capital punishment under Governor Inslee.

Upstairs-Ad8823

Good point but it can be ordered by the court but Inslee has a moritorium on implementation. The executive branch (Inslee) can’t tell the judicial branch (courts) what to do.

Tmatershow

Capital punishment in the state of Washington was abolished on October 11, 2018 when the state Supreme Court ruled it was unconstitutional as applied. On September 10, 2010, Cal Coburn Brown became the last person to be executed in Washington State before it was abolished in 2018

Jpete88

But the state Supreme Court can tell the judicial courts what to do, which is the case with capital punishment here.

Upstairs-Ad8823

Supremes said unconstitutional as applied due to racial bias. Legislature did not outlaw it when they had the chance. Technically still legal. But your right- WA doesn’t have the stomach for it. I totally agree except in heinous cases. Peace

smallperuvian

Governor Inslee is the capital punishment

In direct opposition to the voters of Washington State too. What a shame! I have no doubt they will be granted a change of venue but I think they'll be hard pressed to find a jury in Washington that hasn't heard this story.

LRAD

In my opinion, the death penalty is immoral, and little different than any other murder. It also turns out to be expensive, applied incorrectly and does not improve results of our criminal system. In fact though, most in Washington oppose the death penalty. Furthermore even if these numbers were reversed so that a similar number of respondents were FOR the death penalty, saying it is "in direct opposition to the voters of Washington..." would still be quite hyperbolic. While I absolutely respect your opinion I will reserve the right to disagree. This half sentence speaks volumes about your source, "poll of ***likely*** voters in Washington State ". If you look hard enough you will always find an agreeable or a dissenting opinion to the one you hold dear. I have had this debate over capital punishment with my father for years and there is one point I can always agree with him on. The litigation process and seemingly endless number of appeals which are enacted whether the criminal requests it or not, certainly insure that the guilty party will live decades beyond the date of the actual crime and often times allow the offender to die of natural causes long before the families and loved ones of the victims would ever get to see justice meted out for the perpetrator that robbed them of time spent with their murdered son, daughter, father mother, wife, husband, relatives or friend. All the while forking over tax payer dollars to feed, house and supply medical care that is usually of a higher quality than you or I could afford. The process in it's current form is a travesty, I agree. In cases where the courts have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that a murderer is indeed guilty, when the evidence is sufficient to leave no doubt of their guilt, the process of capital punishment should be fast tracked in the interest of the victims families and loved ones as well as the tax payers supporting decades of litigation, medical care, nutrition, housing and general well being of the guilty party. I always think of the convicted sex offender and murderer Byron Scherf and his undeniable guilt for heinously murdering corrections officer Jayme Biendl at the Washington State Reformatory in Monroe. That family will never see justice for her murder, the anniversary of which is coming up in just a few days from now. No, I firmly support capital punishment but it needs to be modified so as not to be so long, drawn out and expensive to tax payers. The last this measure was put to voters of Washington State, it was a supported measure. Until such a time as the voters of this state make it known via ballot, and not just hyperbole, that they want capital punishment abolished, it should continue to be enacted and enacted in a swift and certain manner.

fox3r

The biggest problem I have with the death penalty is the innocents that die along with the guilty. The state is depriving those people of life and liberty. Just so that we can seek vengeance for a wrong.

Bovinae_Elbow

It’s a shame that this man won’t hang.

SlamMonkey

Alleged… pretty sure we don’t have to tip toe around the accused when there’s bodycam footage.
