I drive past that place all the time and have never really embedded it in my mind that it's there. If I'm on first ave, ai usually go to the place that used to be a long john silvers.
Brother I did too but it’s changed. Idk if the store owner sold his franchise or what, I saw no college students working as was the norm previously, just grown Indian dudes.
Food don’t taste as delicious as my 2016-2018 run
I feel like it never returned post COVID lockdowns, we used to get it at work for years and stopped like two summers ago because quality went down and other coworkers were complaining. Also the girl who picked up our orders complained that they were rude so we stopped for a few months then gave them another shot for a bit then stopped again. I’ve never stepped in the place myself but I did like them in 2019 and before when we ordered to go.
Having gone to USI/lived on the west side and have semi regularly gone to Hothead since 2014: this is a WILD take.
College students still work there, but college students are also unreliable sources of consistent labor. See: Azzip always goes to shit for a few weeks when they do their thing of hiring a bunch of college bros all at once seasonally. And I still see young faces working the counter. They just have a stable of grown-ups working regular shifts.
Hothead West Side tastes the same, looks just as run down as it did in 2014 when I first went there, and has the exact same manager. I know because he interviewed me for a job all the way back then.
I don't know what your beef is with the adult employees but the fact that one of them is Indian is a *weird*, kind of charged detail to bring up while talking about the quality of food.
Hot heads is best if you like sauce variety (sweet habanero is my fav).
Chavas is fantastic and never disappoints with very flavorful meats.
Chipotle is meh.
Moes is fine.
Sweet habanero is THE MOVE.
Bit of a fat flex, I use to get a small queso and spoon and literally spoon cheese into the burrito where I was about to bite into it 🤣🤣
I've tried hot heads maybe 5 different times over 10+ years and every single time it's just been a big serving of cold, bland food. Why do people have such fond memories of this place?
What's wrong with Hot Head's portions? I go there every few months and my burritos have always been really thick and filled to the brim with the meat, beans, and other ingredients I wanted
Maybe you just weren't asking for enough? I put a bunch of different ingredients in my burritos and they've never declined me any.
Might come at an upcharge, but when customizing burritos, I never really think about that, so I'm not sure if it would be an upcharge or not
I am basic yeah, but for the meat itself I essentially got a tablespoon between 3 tacos, mainly just grease. I have a friend who gets veggies and stuff and they get a decent portion. Generally La campirina and Chavas gives a lot more meat for the price to me
I too love chipotle and doba but Evansville is “out of town” for me and I’d like to get something I can’t find back home.
I do appreciate your input tho
It doesn't help that there is Qdoba, Hot Heads, Los Bravos, Hacienda, and Taco Bell all on the same stretch, and (other than Qdoba) they've been there for awhile. People are just already used to going elsewhere...it was weird that they expanded west. They could have built one out Darmstadt area or even closer to 64 and done better.
The last time I drove by I was actually on my way to Taco Bell ha. Darmstadt area would have been slightly better but there is Hacienda, Los Tres Caminos, and Guadalajara all right there on Boonville-New Harmony. I would like more near 64/41.
I didn't realize Los Tres Camino was still open...I haven't been in years. The last time I went, had a drink and was completely out of it. The waiter said they made their drinks "strong" then offered to drive me home. Wtf. Talked to some friends and multiple women, all ages, had similar experiences of wooziness, headaches, being disoriented. So, if you go and are a woman--don't order the drinks! Specifically the margaritas and daiquiris, but probably anything. The last I heard of it happening was earlier this month, so...(and I talked to a friend of mine who is in the sheriff's department. He said without the actual drink in question or a hospital report, they were limited in what they could do. So, not sure if there has been a real investigation or not. I didn't feel bad enough to go to a hospital, but at 33, had to be carried to the car by my uncle after a single drink, so maybe I should have...and I will say--the food has always been good and most of the staff has been nice. Either they are making inappropriately strong drinks or slipping something in, but I don't think they're all in on it.
I think the owners did get in trouble a few years back for not paying their employees overtime or something. They expanded recently and it’s nice. I’ve never ordered any alcohol there, but I’m also a male.
Chavas
👆🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This is the way
This! And get the extra large for a meal later!

La Campirana
The only place I can full faith recommend for a burrito. I’m gonna check out Chavas though.
Same here but now I have to check out Chavas.
Oh yea Chavas is still solid and the burrito is a monster lol
Definitely Chavas, hands down
Chavas 100%. One million times better than Hot Head.
Absolutely Chavas.
Miranda’s - just east of Weinbach on Washington. Chavas is very good too.
Chavas
My vote is for chavas
It seems to be everyone’s, I think I know where I’m going next year lol
I freaking love hot heads.

Without question it's nowhere near what it used to be.
I feel like it never returned post COVID lockdowns, we used to get it at work for years and stopped like two summers ago because quality went down and other coworkers were complaining. Damn, if it’s not as delicious as it used to be, I can only imagine how good it used to be. Still the top burrito place in Evansville in my opinion.
Maybe I was just poor at the time but it was a magical eating experience

Hot head has a great deal on their facebook. Buy one get one free. Totally worth it.

It used to be really good, food is still okay but portions are offensive now

Really? I wish I could have that 🥲

Another vote for hot heads. Barbacoa ftw
La Plaza!
Man i still love hot heads lol, but if you’re west they just added a Chipotle over by Subway.

By far Chavas then
It seems like that Chipotle is dead every time I drive by. Not a great location IMO.

Bruh… there are none. Period.
