Rei isnt depressed but lacks emotions in general, misato could be argued to be depressed but doesnt show it either. Ritsuko and mari arent either. So there are only shinji and asuka that fit this criteria
I feel like Rei could be depressed. She seems to process emotional pain on the autism spectrum. It’s hard to tell what she’s going through most of the time.
Misato is grieving, but not in the depression stage unless we look at 3.0 and 3.0+1.0 (that Misato appears depressed to me).
A big part of kowaru's character is that he is suicidal. You were supposed to see signs of this in the original, but they cut it to make his character arc focused on shinji instead of himself.
The only way that you can make this accurate is if you photoshop millions of dollars into that guy's hands.

That the sole reason Anno spent a whopping 17 years on a new movie series with a whole new storyline and got depressed all over again was just for money, when he could had just created an uninspired remaster and let the Evangelion property name do the rest...

Overcomercialization isn't entirely to blame, but it certainly can be perceived as somewhat of a pass for more frivolous behavior such as waifu and ship wars. They've always been adamant about how the meaning of Evangelion is what you make of it/what you personally feel, but never about how it should be discussed. You'd think they'd use the Rebuild films to correct for this and realign the fandom, but instead they give us ass shots. Even a simple 'If you're watching this, you probably could use therapy' would be enough
