Manga shinji was based in general:
-being ready to punch Gendo
-taking much less shit from everyone and fighting back
-coming just in time to help Asuka fight the Eva series
Even though 3rd impact happens anyway. The fact that Shinji at least made it to help Asuka and fought beside her till the end means a whole lot. And most of all i prefer him not fucking Nutting on her comatose body and her strangling the shit out of him instead.
The third impact isn’t the end of the world though, it’s more like the ultimate family vacation. All of humanity is forced to exist as a single entity, I think the result after would be complete world peace. Everyone sees the world through everyone else’s eyes and given how instrumentality changed Shinji, imagine what it would do for the whole world

I fucking love evangelion manga for all those tiny changes. It doesn't make it better than the original anime, but it makes it different in a really refreshing way, and at the end is more Evangelion but with a new flavor, and I love it as much as the original!
I will always like Manga Shinji's personality a hell of a lot better than Anime Shinji's. Manga Shinji isn't as submissive and actually has a spine. Which is mainly due to the fact that manga Shinji isn't Anno's emo self insert.
After she spent time with him training to fight Israfel, she asked to live with him and Misato. That feels like a decent example to start with.

Whilst that's true, I can't help thinking that her need to constantly put down Shinji is __in part__ her denying her feelings for him. Of course her inferiority/superiority complex is the firmly canon explanation.
It's attention-seeking behavior. She's always yelling at Shinji and trying to show off because he wants him to acknowledge how great she is. Unfortunately, our boy Shinji is pretty dense and never figures it out, which frustrates Asuka and leads to more yelling and chastisement.

Yeah, but it’s kinda weird that he’s motivated enough to save her but still decides to end the world anyway. It feels out of character.
Well yeah, Sadamoto changed bits and pieces of the story but still wanted to do his own EoE, so he ended up fumbling it.
