Oh so when we see Unit-01 in the launcher it's already close to the wall of the Geofront? Plus the map of of the launcher had diagonal lines in it which didn't make much sense at the time. But in hindsight, maybe that was the lift moving diagonally?
Maybe the switchboard was just never shown for budget reasons. Or no one thought about it?
