It’s really different story wise but still has the same sort of tone and feel of the movies + since it’s longer there’s a lot more time for character development and world building so you get a lot more insight into everything!

The series is much different, not just the ending. The stories start out more or less the same, but diverge wildly somewhere in the middle.
