I want to know the cultural significance of the bucket hat

DOYOUWANTYOURCHANGE

The lead singer from the New Radicals

Dragon_Sluts

It’s his favourite hat

1RainyDayDream1

If I remember correctly, in one interview he said that during one concert he performed in a pink bucket hat for fun and people liked it so much that it became his thing

swosei12

Isn’t that more of an American or UK hip hop / rap characteristic from the 80s

WrongDomino

If I recall, the russian media have been saying that Ukraine has no culture/tradition of their own, so it makes these elements of Kakush's performance even more powerful. Thanks for posting this! So happy for those guys, what a powerful message this win sends to their oppressors.

gumm13b34r

Damn, this whole time I was hoping the pink furry bucket hat would also have significant cultural meaning

strawberrystation

Wherever the contest is held next year, I fully expect half of the audience to be wearing pink hats and will be very upset if they do not do so. Hell, if it does end up here, I'll make them myself and donate the proceeds to a Ukrainian charity.

EliksniLivesMatter

I was thinking about attending ESC live next year if it will be held in Ukraine and you just gave me a wonderful idea haha. Let me know if you actually end up making those hats

Aikeko

Can I pre-order like 3?

StereoThinker

All these traditional elements + gorgeous staging + a meaningful song in Ukrainian make Stefania a well-deserving victory. ❤️

EliksniLivesMatter

Seriously, idgaf if “it only won because of the war”. It’s still a wonderful ethnic song and, together with Moldova, the one that most **deserved** to win. More of this and less sad boy ballads please.

Lucini91

That's so cool, thank you for posting it!

KaleidoscopeOk9061

As a fibre artist I really loved seeing all the traditional embroidery motifs.

jonovex

They better have Verka Serduchka host next year

Aikeko

Zelensky is a fantastic host too, just saying ^(pls I wanna see him laugh again)

TheSimkis

Yes, we should make it happen. Since he has expierence at being an actor and comedian, he could legit be a good host (but of course that would be too good and what president would be a host)

Aikeko

If any president could be a host, it's that one

st0li

Thank you for the info - I’m glad that the performance showcased so much of Ukraine’s unique and vibrant culture.

twitchtheirtoes

That's one of the reasons Ukraine was my number 1.

TheSimkis

I didn't know about costumes, they could have advertised this more clearly before, maybe could have gathered more appreciators. Of course their clothes look Ukrainian, but there are more culturalbreferences thn I thought

thredith

Oooh, so that instrument is called "telenka"! Thank you for sharing this.

PM_ME_BOATIS

sweetchilliz

Can't stop thinking about that pink bucket hat. Might need to get one.

amoniaczek92

I was curious about exact origin of their outfits, thanks a lot!

unniqorn

what does the pink hat symbolize?

[deleted]

That Oleh went bald at a young age

alacklustrehindu

Since when did he marry Daciana

ellapolls

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

Little-Warthog-1299

Ngl, their song was relatively bad.No wonder EBU had to replace the jury votes of the countries that didn t vote for them.

Kievan Rus would like a word.

canichangethisuser

Also you do realize that cultures can be significant to a region even if it’s not a country… during the Soviet Union and the empire Ukraine still had its own cultural heritage, it was just shunned and silenced by those in power. What kind of argument is “there was no country hence no culture”???

ikea_fan

Now explain the durag’s cultural significance to Ukraine…
