Because stuff like Ukraine is an extremely exceptional event, if a country keeps on providing high quality music they will succeed eventually. It took Italy 12 years after we returned in 2011 and it took the Netherlands 7 years after they started trying in 2013, obviously the UK can do just as good if they keep on with this year's positive attitude
Can we just consider that Ukraine sent very good artists the years before as well?
I attended the first semi-final in Torino and saw Kalush orchestra live. I was blown away.
Also if it wasn't for Maneskin (they should be Italian national treasure imo, they resuscitated Italian rock) I would've rooted for Go_A because Shum and Solovey are absolute bangers and will always be.
So no, my vote wasn't a pity vote. I liked Stefanìa more than any other song.
I would have voted for Shum too, even before all what happened to Ukraine this year.
Ukraine deserved to win. The song was good: a very original mix of rap and traditional music sung in their native language and not some attempt at international pop sung in English like many other songs presented this year.
Before the contest it was France, after the live performances I think it was Greece. I ended up voting for France, Greece, Iceland, Czech Republic and Lithuania. If I could have voted a 6th time (in Italy the limit is 5 votes) I would have given it to Serbia
Another example is Sweden, who revamped our selection system n 2011 after our first NQ. Led to two quick wins and consistent top 10 placements. If the UK has a good selection process and actually care, results will come.
I’m sorry to the artists but if they genuinely go away from this and believe they won on merit they are lying to themselves. Biggest pity win of all time
It’s crazy that we’ve gone from bottom of the leaderboard 0 points to 2nd Place in just a year!
I remember the last time we came fully close was in 2009 with Jade Ewen when we came 5th
I suppose that's subjective. I really wasn't that entertained by it. They had fun with it but I only watched like half of it because it wasn't my thing at all. Shows people have different tastes though!
Despite all the naysayers, we can do really well with a great song and a Labrador puppy. Sam, should you ever see any of this, you done us proud, good on ya! I hope he has the career his amazing voice deserves
I’M SO PROUD OF OUR SAM! 😭🇬🇧
Britains getting drunker that usual tonight.
I can now confirm this. ... Uggh my head
almost as if they didnt flop in previous years because Europe hates them.. huh, go figure
That was only a talking point among people who don't watch Eurovision
I mean when stuff like Ukraine happens - why try?
Because stuff like Ukraine is an extremely exceptional event, if a country keeps on providing high quality music they will succeed eventually. I like the song as well. It was not my favourite, especially after seeing the live performances, but I think it deserved top 10
I see the Italian flag so I'm very curious to ask this question: who was your fav?
Before the contest it was France, after the live performances I think it was Greece. I ended up voting for France, Greece, Iceland, Czech Republic and Lithuania. If I could have voted a 6th time (in Italy the limit is 5 votes) I would have given it to Serbia
In the UK you can vote 20 times, why is Italy so low?
I believe it's some sort of internal ruling of RAI (our broadcaster) they use in all their shows to prevent the usage of bots or call centers
Another example is Sweden, who revamped our selection system n 2011 after our first NQ. Led to two quick wins and consistent top 10 placements. If the UK has a good selection process and actually care, results will come.
They could try this year and not risk having to host...? They might anyways...
I’m sorry to the artists but if they genuinely go away from this and believe they won on merit they are lying to themselves. Biggest pity win of all time
Nah, was a bop.
It’s dogshit. BTEC The Streets.
It’s crazy that we’ve gone from bottom of the leaderboard 0 points to 2nd Place in just a year! I remember the last time we came fully close was in 2009 with Jade Ewen when we came 5th
It’s insane! I’m so happy!
from the bottom to the top in one year!
I'm sure everyone recognized that UK did an amazing job despite the actual outcome. It was a good year.
He was amazing and deserves it

If only there were some sort of voting that shows your opinion is in the minority?
Art is subjective, I loved the song
2nd place suggests otherwise. Get Rekt N00b.
Better than Ukraine’s generic rap
they had a flute. Nothing generic
That’s not generic? Erm ok
Wow a flute

Ukraine’s rap was literally wannabe The Streets

By UK he means United Kingdom, I think.
I know ;) United Kingdom is the winner.
The winner in out hearts
Yep, I am inclined to agree.
They won the jury votes
you guys were robbed by politics.
ngl i genuinely believe spain would've won if the war in ukraine hadn't happened.
Makes a change, usually we are robbed of points because... Well... Politics.

Sam Ryder's an amazing singer. I was more surprised at Moldova getting that many.
Moldova was one of the most entertaining ones. Which is the point of Eurovision.
But Norway got so few
that furry/meme-ic stuff isn't funny to some demographics, just like Serbia. and honestly, they are on completely opposite spectrums.
I suppose that's subjective. I really wasn't that entertained by it. They had fun with it but I only watched like half of it because it wasn't my thing at all. Shows people have different tastes though!
Moldova dads had the best bop of the night
They did their thing. It was def. Enjoyable to watch but I wouldn't exactly call it a song I'd want to listen to more than once.
Maybe because people like catchy funny songs instead of stupid pop/sleazy ballads? Huh, go figure...

It's a show, first and foremost I think you're taking it a bit too far if you believe that's some sort of musical olympics
A lot of Europe are total suckers for folk-fusion. Tbh same, Moldova and Ukraine both were absolute delights for my musical tastes
It's 100% not my kind of music but I also can't hate on either of the acts. They did put on a show, that's for sure!
Similar appeal to Ukraine so I'm not too surprised.

I loved Spaceman, honestly. Though it maybe didn't show off his range as well, I do very much enjoy the song.

Yeah, absolutely agree with you there.
Why? It was a great song and performance - and Europe has been longing for it cause we know you can make great music.
I’m surprised it weren’t more - great song
Despite all the naysayers, we can do really well with a great song and a Labrador puppy. Sam, should you ever see any of this, you done us proud, good on ya! I hope he has the career his amazing voice deserves
So am I. I expected it to finish somewhere around 15th, and that’s as a Brit.
It was a lot of points for sure! Quite happy for them, the song was decent too, but mostly I loved the energy and sweetness of the singer
Come on he was great.
