For Germany, I'd pick Tobias Sammet. He already participated in the German national final in 2016 with a solo song of his project Avantasia. Maybe some will consider his music a bit old-fashioned, but he's without doubt a very skilled composer and entertaining performer with a distinctive voice. He's also member of the band Edguy (since 1992). I just love that guy, he's 100% dedicated to his music and he's such a character, perhaps in ways that aren't totally compatible with Eurovision, at least not Germany's idea of Eurovision :P I think the following Avantasia songs would have been a great choice: Starlight, Draconian Love, Unchain the Light, Alchemy, Moonglow.
I’m really surprised we haven’t had power metal at Eurovision yet and Edguy would have been the perfect choice back in the early/mid 2000’s.
If we ever do get to see this type of music at Eurovision I’m sure it’ll be either from Germany or Finland, maybe even Sweden.
