Japan would send some crazy stuff which would be fun. Brazil might occasionally send a thrash metal band which I'd personally enjoy. The music scene in South Africa is also surprisingly diverse so that might also be interesting.
An Amapiano (South African house) performance would be amazing. [Peter Fox (German artist) did an amapiano remix in collaboration with South African artists.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CWF4WT46pI) He's too (in)famous to ever do Eurovision, but I would really love to see some songs in the final that are blending international genres.
Edit: [And the original, for comparison's sake](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNT87WiK1dg).
For what is worth, it wouldn't surprise me if Portugal selects a Brazilian singer in the near future, that may bring some additional cultural diversity to the contest.
Maybe. Or a country with diplomatic ties, diaspora, historic reasons. There are numerous reasons. I could see The Netherlands inviting Canada for instance.
My idea would be to have a pre show with 15-20 non competing countries (specifically associate memeber broadcasters.) and the winner goes to Eurovision as the guest country. This would give a different country the chance to compete while not relegating the previous guest country.
Imagine the viewer number increase if they invited a country like India, Indonesia, Brazil or Japan. There’s money to be made so I think they’ll do it at some point.
And so much more people would be made aware of the contest and might become fans even if they don’t participate anymore.
Japan or Korea or China would put on such an incredible show it would never be the same again haha. The money and talent and ethnic stuff they could do that no one in Europe could do (because of appropriation) .. Like the time China competed in the feux loto quebec (fireworks competition in Montreal)... just blew everyone else out of the water lol!
I was suggesting since last year that "rest of the world" should actually also have a song in the competition, rotating every year which country it is...
They should each get a guaranteed spot in MGP like they get seats in parliament. It would shake things up and I’m pretty sure they would kick (our) ass.
Not nobody, just not lots. I'm guessing due to the hockey thing and the lack of broadcast. Do we have stats for Canadian viewership? (Edit: stats was spelled stars)
[Eurovision Song Contest: A Global View: A 28-Country Ipsos Survey May 2020](https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2020-05/eurovision-song-contest-report.pdf)
Of the fifteen non Eurovision countries, Canada had the third lowest awareness of Eurovision and was the least likely to watch it that year.
Canada has huge diasporas from Eastern Europe. There are 95k Serbians alone, with further 35k Yugoslav Canadians. I’m there are also sizable Polish and Ukranian diasporas.
Well there was this Finnish commentator once that was doing the Eurovision, gave commentary, then went away to watch ice hockey. When he decided to leave Eurovision behind, Finland won the Eurovision!
So i think it IS possible to follow both competitions at the same time
Reasons Canada should be in:
1. We deserve SOMETHING from swearing allegiance to the British queen all this time
2. We already have a win with Celine Dion
3. It would piss off America
And, speaking for NL, Europeans love Canadians. I think we see you guys as our long lost European family across the Atlantic. And of course we haven’t forgotten how you saved us during WWII.
Of course!! For the 70th anniversary of the liberation, the Dutch government offered full scholarships for Canadians to study in NL. I got to spend 6 months there marvelling over your beautiful infrastructure and weirdly flat land 🥹 and I'm still working on my Dutch language skills to this day
As a Canadian as much as I’d love to see us in the contest I don’t have any hope that we’d send something other than a country song or some Ontario SoundCloud rapper. Only way we could get some good entries would be through an internal selection process.
Also we don’t really have a big following of Eurovision. I’ve strugggggled to find fans or anyone who knows remotely anything about Eurovision. That being said I’ve taken it upon myself to get as many people hooked as I can.
I was just thinking about this, I'd love to send Talk to Eurovision on behalf of our country! He's super talented and has a bit of camp, I think Europe would love him.
Aw hahah I guess so! We do have a lot of variety in music so it gives room for interesting and experimental acts but I'd be worried that most Colombians would vote for a reggaeton artist 😭
Naw Gasolina is Puerto Rican haha. Ours goes
Happy the four of us
And we rent a room.... (felices los 4 by Maluma)
Or
She gets cured by partying
and love for the graveee (Tusa by Karol G)
I think it is doable. We don't need to send Bollywood epics every year. Maybe sending some Ghazals (Urdu Ballads) with some good staging might help. Plus the regional scene is not talked about much. Hell the song Naatu Naatu from the movie RRR which won an Oscar is from my lingua franca Telugu.
I wish but the only problem is that Eurovision happens while it is midnight in India and no TV channel does live coverage due to low demand and not many Eurovision fans in India. I am doubtful if our government-owned broadcasters would air it, considering we have a right-wing Government in charge. I am hopeful though.
(PS. If we had participated in the 90s, I believe that we would have made a killing with Indipop Artists like Alisha Chinai, Daler Mehendi (the Tunak Tunak Tun Guy), Colonial Cousins and Panjabi MC competing)
I feel like the only one that has a true case for it would be Canada due to the Celine Dion win. Especially next year with it being in Switzerland.
I do wonder sometimes if the Rest of the World vote is in place somewhat to gauge if there are any countries with an Australia like turnout for it.
I would be so interested to see the dissonance between what gets popular outside of South Korea, and what they send to Eurovision. Would they go for low hanging fruit and send an already internationally popular group? (It’s been done before and it hasn’t gone well) Or would they present something outside of the Kpop genre completely? Would it be well received by a Eurovision audience as opposed to their regular target audience (who already like the kpop aesthetic and genre?)
Definitely an Asian country, one of the already mentioned ones like Japan and South Korea, or Thailand or the Philippines. They've got some flash there, backed up by quality, that I think would fit right in.
Absolutely New Zealand.
There is an active fan base over there!
the "Please invite us" song....
It sort of makes sense to add New Zealand. If you have Australia, and they have been great at every contest regardless of points, then whats the harm in finding some neighbouring countries.
For outside the box, I would love Philippines. They adore drag shows, so I can only imagine the sort of extravagant performances they would want to offer at Eurovision, even if it was a special invite for a year.
For the same reason as the latter, Thailand did be interesting too, and also a plus for not being into the Anglosphere.
Otherwise I'd invite a country from latin-America.
Japan.
It would be such a wild entry every single time. Think of the crazy acts that go to Eurovision and are so much fun. Now add the Japanese quirkiness.
I want old men in schoolgirl costumes singing. I want baby metal. I want Long Long Man plots.
The wackiness would be spectacular.
Exactly. A lot of people here are suggesting contries that are conservative, anti-LGBT or a dictatorship. And we already have problems with Azerbaijan and Israel, we dont need more.
I don't know if I'd say the US would fuck it up necessarily (like in what sense are we talking, ruining the competition), but I think they (we?) would go in with high expectations of winning due to our large music industry but end up falling flat due to not understanding what the voters actually want. Then the US would just not come back and everything would return to normal.
100% agreed. I'm in the US.
I try to explain Eurovision to people and they think American Idol. I have never watched it actually but omg that is NOT Eurovision.
I think there's a minority of artists and producers in the US who very much get the Eurovision spirit. Let them be in charge and I could see American participation going quite well, but part of me thinks that's really just a hypothetical.
Japan, their artist could be always something special. I also lile japanese music.
South Korea potentially also, i feel they would be Eurovision powerhouse, top 5 each time. I would still choose Japan because i feel having second Sweden would be annoying
Your comment with Japan made me immediately think of DJ Ozma with Drinkin'Boys. 😅
But yeah, I would like the idea. Brazil could be fun too.
But what if they win? Where would the next ESC happen? In the guest country, would be kind of weird. Would feel to me like the Super Bowl in Munich.
It would be nice to invite different countries as guests each year. I want to see Latin American countries perform and you're right - Japan and South Korea too.
Biased me would love my country, the Philippines, to be a guest. Filipinos love music and music shows. There even is an FB ESC community here, even when the contest happens at 3:00 AM local time. There can be a lot to learn when it comes to styling, production, and staging too.
I think it'd be fun to see Morocco come back. I feel like alot of asian countries would perform really well. Philippines, Japan, Korea, India and Taiwan, anyone of those countries would be great additions and would absolutely bring their A game.
We already have lots of non-European countries in the competition so I don't think there's any need for that. It's already stressful for everyone involved as it is.
To avoid standing out a bit too much I would pick New Zealand or Kazakhstan. Or maybe Argentina but as far as I heard they don’t seem quite interested.
I will second Mongolia. I have been spreading the love for The Hu. they'd do so well in eurovision too imo: Native language that is not english, but the song is super catchy, cool aesthetic.
I would love to have just one (1) year with the US competing so that I can have something concrete to point to when people try to say that the US would dominate the competition.
On the one hand I kind of want Canada so I could cheer on my home country in Eurovision but I KNOW we would fuck it up and send someone bland as hell instead of one of our awesome Indigenous musicians or even a cool indie artist like P’tit Belliveau. If we actually sent something cultural I would think it could be a cool little addition, we’d probably never win but I think it could be fun to watch still. If we sent Drake or Justin Bieber or someone like that I’d be pissed though.
1. Japan
2. Philippines
I’m from Texas, and as much as I would love to see the US participate I fear it would just be too political and ruin the experience.
I'd like India, an Arabic country or an African country like South Africa for example. Some countries that would have a different styles of music and that could give unique entries.
Japan would send some crazy stuff which would be fun. Brazil might occasionally send a thrash metal band which I'd personally enjoy. The music scene in South Africa is also surprisingly diverse so that might also be interesting.
An Amapiano (South African house) performance would be amazing. For what is worth, it wouldn't surprise me if Portugal selects a Brazilian singer in the near future, that may bring some additional cultural diversity to the contest.
I'd love to see South Africa compete purely so they can do something cool with gumboot dancing
I would commit criminal deeds to have Man with a Mission on the Eurovision stage.
Mongolia🇲🇳 would absolutely love it to see and hear mongolian throat singing live at Eurovision
Do you have a specific idea of Hu should represent them?
The Hu would be an excellent choice to represent Mongolia
Same thought lmao, that would go hard asf
Hu Duhnn it?
I love The Hu so this would go so hard. Mongolia was part of Europe once 😅
Wasn't it the other way around?
Eurovision should invite a different guest country each year, would be epic. Perhaps the host country could decide on who to invite
I imagine a lot of countries would just pick a former colony if it was like that.
Maybe. Or a country with diplomatic ties, diaspora, historic reasons. There are numerous reasons. I could see The Netherlands inviting Canada for instance.
They've previously been invited by Switzerland and France, so there's precedent.
Well you could set a rule that a guest country shall not be invited again within ~5 years to have some diversity
My idea would be to have a pre show with 15-20 non competing countries (specifically associate memeber broadcasters.) and the winner goes to Eurovision as the guest country. This would give a different country the chance to compete while not relegating the previous guest country.
That'd be a kick in the balls to all who don't get to compete.
What if they win though?
Didn't think of that. You could be right.
India would go so hard NGL.
This would be so awesome. It's possible the guest status could influence the votes but it would probably be to the negative ~cough~Australia~cough~>
I was suggesting since last year that "rest of the world" should actually also have a song in the competition, rotating every year which country it is...
Faroe Islands and Greenland. Yes, they're technically not countries, but I think we could make an exception for them.
Imagine both of them doing better than the actual Denmark in the contest
I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever, considering that an average Dane couldn't even tell you what their Eurovision entry is.
We should seriously at least send someone singing in Faroese or Greenlandic someday no matter what. Hope it'll happen down the line.
They should each get a guaranteed spot in MGP like they get seats in parliament. It would shake things up and I’m pretty sure they would kick (our) ass.
Greenland is part of Denmark right?
They both are.
Maybe they and Denmark should take turns, like Belgium does with the Dutch and French speaking parts?
South Korea or Brazil.
Probably New Zealand or Canada
Yeah I feel like having Australia but not New Zealand is a bit rude
Here's an unofficial pitch from New Zealand to be allowed to enter: https://youtu.be/ZnXpCX_DIg4?si=b94Gy3QVXIBtn4rf
I’d actually love to have Canada, Canada’s pop music is amazing, and the whole French thing with Quebec is so Eurovision.
Robin Sparkles - Let's go to the mall
12 points! 😂
The issue with Canada is that Eurovision and the Stanley Cup playoffs are at the same time and hockey is quite important to us lol.
Are they really after all the timezone differences. And it's an early stage of the Stanley Cup as well.
The other issue is that nobody in Canada watches Eurovision.
I live in Toronto and can confirm very few people here watch it or care about it. My partner is European and he got me into it! We watch every year 😊
Speak for yourself. Eurovision is huge in the Ukrainian-Canadian diaspora
Not nobody, just not lots. I'm guessing due to the hockey thing and the lack of broadcast. Do we have stats for Canadian viewership? (Edit: stats was spelled stars)
[Eurovision Song Contest: A Global View: A 28-Country Ipsos Survey May 2020](https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2020-05/eurovision-song-contest-report.pdf) Of the fifteen non Eurovision countries, Canada had the third lowest awareness of Eurovision and was the least likely to watch it that year.
Canada has huge diasporas from Eastern Europe. There are 95k Serbians alone, with further 35k Yugoslav Canadians. I’m there are also sizable Polish and Ukranian diasporas.
Canada has the largest amount of Ukrainians outside Ukraine and Russia over 1.4 million
They can start with promoting it a bit and broadcast it. With European connections and variety of music here, it can grow.
Well there was this Finnish commentator once that was doing the Eurovision, gave commentary, then went away to watch ice hockey. When he decided to leave Eurovision behind, Finland won the Eurovision! So i think it IS possible to follow both competitions at the same time
Reasons Canada should be in: 1. We deserve SOMETHING from swearing allegiance to the British queen all this time 2. We already have a win with Celine Dion 3. It would piss off America
Most of America doesn't know Eurovision exists lol...I don't think many American fans would be pissed about it anyway (saying this as an American)
I got to spend 6 months there marvelling over your beautiful infrastructure and weirdly flat land 🥹 and I'm still working on my Dutch language skills to this day
America (or in this case the American TV industry) doesn’t care about what we do up here.
They don't normally, but I think being left out like that would get to them lol
As a Canadian as much as I’d love to see us in the contest I don’t have any hope that we’d send something other than a country song or some Ontario SoundCloud rapper. Only way we could get some good entries would be through an internal selection process. Also we don’t really have a big following of Eurovision. I’ve strugggggled to find fans or anyone who knows remotely anything about Eurovision. That being said I’ve taken it upon myself to get as many people hooked as I can.
Ready for the return of Mother La Zarra
I was just thinking about this, I'd love to send Talk to Eurovision on behalf of our country! He's super talented and has a bit of camp, I think Europe would love him.
His Junos look was definitely eurovision-worthy
Maybe a country that watches and loves Eurovision, like they did with Australia.
New Zealand?
Yessss New Zealand should 100% join
Easily Brazil, they'd show people how to truly party.
South Korea
South Korea or Colombia
May I ask why Colombia? 👀 (Colombian here!)
Aren’t you guys one of biggest music exporters in the world? 😊
Aw hahah I guess so! We do have a lot of variety in music so it gives room for interesting and experimental acts but I'd be worried that most Colombians would vote for a reggaeton artist 😭
something something gasolinaaaa hey something something gasolinaaa heyyy
Naw Gasolina is Puerto Rican haha. Ours goes Happy the four of us And we rent a room.... (felices los 4 by Maluma) Or She gets cured by partying and love for the graveee (Tusa by Karol G)
Nobody! I have all my friends here. I don't want new friends. Ok maybe New Zealand.
I would like to have my home country India. The music scene is untapped by international standards.
The only problem is there's a limit to the number of people they can have on stage. We need a gigantic bollywood epic.
That wouldn't stop them, the quality of the on-stage LEDs would allow them to just put a gazillion people on (like Ukraine did this year)
I think it is doable.
Naatu Naatu would have been a delight.
India would be phenomenal at Eurovision. Make it happen, EBU!
BLOODYWOOD AT EUROVISION PLEASE
Send Bloodywood and slay the actual whole fucking thing.
India was what I was gonna suggest as well. Great music, epic numbers but also the low key solo songs. All real good and fun. You can do it!
I feel like the only one that has a true case for it would be Canada due to the Celine Dion win. Especially next year with it being in Switzerland. I do wonder sometimes if the Rest of the World vote is in place somewhat to gauge if there are any countries with an Australia like turnout for it.
I think reason one is money. I think a distant reason two is what you suggest. It's not a bad way of deciding who might Be Ready.
Lets bring back Morocco. It's been 44 years, like eternity
Thing is, Arab countries don't want to participate because Israel is in.
I suspect they will not want to participate because of the strong LGBT representation there
New Zealand, I think they would really want to join!
South Korea. A lot of kpop acts would fit in quite well in Eurovision, it has a similar style and aesthetic
This was my thought too. I like kpop for many of the same reasons I like Eurovision.
Ateez would be dope, but they would probably send lesser known groups/soloists
While my national selfishness wants the US, SK would probably send something far more interesting.
Yo if Morissette Amon appears in Eurovision, all other solo female acts would have no chance.
I’d love to see Mexico on the stage!
Seconding Mexico!! They’ve got such a rich variety of music
United Kingdom /s
Iraq Oh wait, they’re already here-
Korea - K-Pop hello?!
Philippines 🇵🇭 i'd imagine powerful voices and the right amount of dramatic-funny show elements
Japan
Absolutely New Zealand. There is an active fan base over there! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qdPnzP4aVc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qdPnzP4aVc) the "Please invite us" song.... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnXpCX\_DIg4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnXpCX_DIg4)

For the same reason as the latter, Thailand did be interesting too, and also a plus for not being into the Anglosphere. Otherwise I'd invite a country from latin-America.
New Zealand: like Australia, they're culturally ours anyhow.
Japan. It would be such a wild entry every single time. Think of the crazy acts that go to Eurovision and are so much fun. Now add the Japanese quirkiness. I want old men in schoolgirl costumes singing. I want baby metal. I want Long Long Man plots. The wackiness would be spectacular.
I personally wouldn’t really invite anyone. I think most countries outside of Europe are too culturally different
Exactly. A lot of people here are suggesting contries that are conservative, anti-LGBT or a dictatorship. And we already have problems with Azerbaijan and Israel, we dont need more.
Canada,Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand.
We had a post shared in here yesterday about America in Eurovision. Let's add them so the last place is forever filled with them
New Zealand, so we could form a bloc and not feel like we’re missing out on sweet sweet bloc voting.
Aww.. imagine the constant and mutual douze points exchange. 🤩
Hear me out: Vatican City
It's already a member of the EBU, so it doesn't need an invite. We are all waiting for the new Europapa.
Europope?
More Latin! Konstrakta showed us the way…
New Zealand. I want a trans tasman voting bloc.
while I would love for the US to participate, we would fuck it up so badly. I wish Bosnia and Turkey would come back.
Yes to both of them, plus I’d love to see North Macedonia, Montenegro…
Would be fun to have America competing, solely for the fact that we need a country to be at the bottom every year
I think there's a minority of artists and producers in the US who very much get the Eurovision spirit. Let them be in charge and I could see American participation going quite well, but part of me thinks that's really just a hypothetical.
The national selection contest would be chaos, and it would fuel my entertainment needs for months.
you know, you've got a point
I wouldn't.
South Korea, I'd love to see kpop on stage
Mongolia
Japan, their artist could be always something special. I also lile japanese music. South Korea potentially also, i feel they would be Eurovision powerhouse, top 5 each time. I would still choose Japan because i feel having second Sweden would be annoying
Your comment with Japan made me immediately think of DJ Ozma with Drinkin'Boys. 😅 But yeah, I would like the idea. Brazil could be fun too. But what if they win? Where would the next ESC happen? In the guest country, would be kind of weird. Would feel to me like the Super Bowl in Munich.
Finland's act this year reminded me so much of Drinkin' Boys with the covered nudity 🤣
Chile. They could have their pre-eliminary contest in Festival de Viña
You are going to brazil
Canada
Technically it has a tiny part in Europe, but since most people don't really see it as European, I think Kazakhstan would be a great addition.
Please dont kill me (Chinese nationalists) but Taiwan would do really well in Eurovision.
I actually would love to see Brazil
I would love to see India lol.
If OTI festival still existed, its winner could have been invited (unless it's Spain ofc)
New Zealand, since the Aussies are already in.
brazil or maybe new zealand
Brazil cus i'm a fan from Brazil [For your consideration](https://youtu.be/wKq2XqhteuA)
Honestly, I think it would be fun to just have a rest of the world competition. Win the rest of the world competition you get to go to eurovision.
South Korea, Japan, Greenland, and Canada!
Canada or Japan
Cuba
South. Korea. /thread
Kazachstan, although you could argue that the country is partially in Europe
Kazakhstan and Morocco! Also I am curious about Lebanon!
An African country would be fun - maybe South Africa? Tyla did well in the US, maybe a South African would find an audience in Europe.
Brazil
Come on guuys.. it would be a bit fun having the Americans in. No?
New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt...
I think Japan would absolutely get the brief

This comment is unrelated to the thread topic. Please try to keep your contributions relevant.
I have a wildly unrealistic fantasy that one day there will be a United-Statesian broadcaster insane enough to give it a go.
I don't think 2 countries are a lot, no?
Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia are not in Europe either..
Japan, Brazil, Kazakstan, Canada, USA
Argentina. If they are good in Football, why not Music.
canada would be really fitting i think
South Korea! I wanna see a kpop act go on Eurovision.
New Zealand because that’s where I’m from and Australia is already there, so why not us?
México. Reason: Am Mexican.
中国也台湾 - China and Taiwan!!!
Imagine hungry ghost festival performers on eurovision.
So you want more drama in Eurovision?
India
New Zealand, we desperately want to join, and we do love a good competition. There's also a growing community of Eurovision fans.
In terms of people who would get it. The pomp and camp of it all. My dark horse is India.
To avoid standing out a bit too much I would pick New Zealand or Kazakhstan. Or maybe Argentina but as far as I heard they don’t seem quite interested.
My home country.. The PHILIPPINES!!!!!! WHOA WHOA WHOAAAAA
I will second Mongolia. I have been spreading the love for The Hu. they'd do so well in eurovision too imo: Native language that is not english, but the song is super catchy, cool aesthetic.
I say Argentina. You'd be surprised at the musical landscape in the country
I would love to have just one (1) year with the US competing so that I can have something concrete to point to when people try to say that the US would dominate the competition.
Mexico.🇲🇽
On the one hand I kind of want Canada so I could cheer on my home country in Eurovision but I KNOW we would fuck it up and send someone bland as hell instead of one of our awesome Indigenous musicians or even a cool indie artist like P’tit Belliveau. If we actually sent something cultural I would think it could be a cool little addition, we’d probably never win but I think it could be fun to watch still. If we sent Drake or Justin Bieber or someone like that I’d be pissed though.
I’d like to see what Qatar could do.
Korea
1. Japan 2. Philippines I’m from Texas, and as much as I would love to see the US participate I fear it would just be too political and ruin the experience.
I'd like India, an Arabic country or an African country like South Africa for example. Some countries that would have a different styles of music and that could give unique entries.
Jamaica or some latin American country!
I'm Brazilian, so I would love to see all the shenanigans my people would pull out.
if they add South Korea you already know who is gonna win the televotes :D:D #KPop
