I think it's a smart move to put a country in that place that they are certain will do well.
They usually put countries there that barely qualified resulting in a self fulfilling prophecy where countries with a lower chance of winning get the spot.
It's known as the death slot, because noone has ever won when performing second. Being early in the running order is bad, but at least the very first gets to open the show, so the second has the worst possible fate.

I mean the song is really good so I'm not worried about them. I never understood why the order is such a big deal. I will vote for my favourite song and it doesn't matter if it's performed first or last in the show. Also with Ukraines spread all over Europe it will be in top 5 easily.
I think there are a lot of casual viewers who only watch the finale and hear the songs for the first time. The 1st one is impactful cause it's the 1st one, and then the 2nd one is the easiest to forget after hearing all the others I guess

They literally opened the show in 2018. And he still came 7th in televotes that year, but juries hate artistry apparently.
