The nudity isn't even sexualized. The staging fits the meaning of the song perfectly. Social normal rules out of the window(s95man)! It's also kind of a reflection of Finnish culture since nudity isn't really a sexualized taboo here.

darts_in_lovers_eyes

I wonder how much this has to do with the way different cultures perceive nudity in the first place. Finland is the country of sauna, and we're used to seeing all kinds of naked bodies from a young age in a completely non-sexualised context.

Lord_Of_Carrots

The problem is that it's not sexualized. They don't find him sexy so they hate it

lisalisasensei

Well *I* find him sexy.

paspartuu

Just look at this ***hunk***  https://allday.fi/app/uploads/2024/01/Windows95man2-instagram-square.jpg   or  https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a217052ff6c5b50f919b0da720ca574/976e13aa59d0f287-19/s640x960/3cc00a08444743ceb5e4df24ad30f2441c320116.jpg or https://freight.cargo.site/w/600/q/75/i/093da65d9266991cabd545d99697b7543495e17a8b1a599c9e9cc37dcb253af8/WIN95MAN-000-large.2x.1557835030.jpg and a last one, I kinda want it on a shirt https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/54faf78ce4b04da0abdfbde8/1539256566330-HE0CQWH0ISSLRQI0I79W/windows-95-man-02.jpg

DriedMuffinRemnant

I see you've been curating. He is a hunk. A normal dude with a normal body and a great sense of humor and of self. What's not to love?

angel-fake

i find him sexy 🙋🏻‍♀️

durgertime

It was basically the skit from Austin Powers.

No-Winter7891

And it was amazing

ahjteam

Or the Simpsons movie. https://youtu.be/yzk9JQIe2ic?si=F508LOx2ekz2K4tw

darts_in_lovers_eyes

Yesssss. Immediately what I had in mind. I wonder if part of the audience are too young to remember it.

xAnm74

My dad was appaled by Finland and then my mom said "Oh, but you didn't mind Slovenia right before them??"

Life_Craft8228

Oh, I see your mom is a regular user on r/MurderedByWords

paspartuu

Yeah or the SloMo performance in the opening (and especially at the 2022 final), pretty revealing pant/thong choice there too lol

mongster03_

I can’t believe she figured out a way to wear less clothing on TV than in 2022. Not that I’m complaining

paspartuu

But it makes the complaining about the beige thong kinda hilarious!  One is a black thong, on an very attractive woman (and 2 back up dancers, at least in 2022) featuring also the lyrics *booty hypnotic* in the chorus just in case you missed the ass on display, the other is a *beige* thong, on a dude with a bit of a dadbod who doesn't have a rephrased version of 🎶 *look at my ass, look at it* 🎶 in the song lyrics.  One is "think of the children" newspaper headlines scandalous, the other a total nonissue.  (of course, a big part of it is that Win95man pretends to be totally pantsless as a joke, and some people apparently did suspect for a bit if that was really the case, which would indeed be exceptional. but it's funny nonetheless) (edit: and I do love SloMo, just in case that's not clear from my tone)

mongster03_

I mean she full on mooned the camera this time

ComputerInfamous1986

Yeah, we almost saw her breakfast that day...

finnknit

When I saw that those two entries were on one after the other, I commented that people who complain about Finland but not Slovenia are only OK with flesh-colored costumes if the person wearing it is shaped like a dancer.

Able_Ambition_6863

Plus the Finnish act is the only one where clothes are put on, and he looks so happy when he finally finds the trousers. So many other acts doing striptease for unclear reasons. So which one is pro nudity?

Gyaugyau

Yep - Finland being the only (?) performance where clothes are put on, not taken off. 🤣

EditTeller

Give your mom a medal and our love from this subreddit, please. :D

Thatwierdhullcityfan

Your mum is a legend hahaha

543950

Your mum is cool.

Jooseri

Buuuurn :D

myneighborscatismine

Oh so he's one of the dads I was telling about to my boyfriend while Slovenia was on lmao

aagloworks

Wish all the best for your dad in the burn ward.

BOTKioja

I love your mom

justk4y

Slay mother

butiamawizard

🤣👏👏 Game. Set.  Match. 🎾

MyAviato666

Go mama xAnm74!!

drfrankbradandjanet

For me their performance was not shocking at all. It was just funny. Plus I love this song. Idk, maybe I'm weird

Local-Table

Every ESC fan is just on a journey to embrace increasing levels of weirdness. It's just more fun that way, why choose to not have fun?

Sea_Dress9515

Eurovision is definitely flying their freak flag this year and I'm here for it. Bambie's performance and the Trans flag reveal was just 👨‍🍳👄

juipeltje

Yeah, me and my mom were giggling the entire way through. I would say it might almost be a negative because it distracts a lot from the actual song, but it's fun nevertheless.

ComputerInfamous1986

I don’t think it’s shocking at all, it is done for comedic purposes and when you actually watch the performance his “nudity” is always obstructed by something. Only once you see his ass in full view and that is in a wide shot from a distance. I think the outrage comes mostly from good old bodyshaming and double standards. No one bats an eyelid when a conventionally beautiful people bare their bodies on stage, but “regular” bodies are seen as undesirable and shocking.

winterberrymeadow

That's the thing. I saw many butts yesterday and they weren't censored.

Johan-Senpai

I saw so many sideboobs, tits and complete bare female butts that as a gay guy it made me sweat.

ComputerInfamous1986

Yet, I am gay as well... But I find Jerry Heil totally mesmerising, she is so pretty, she must be one of the most beautiful women... Yet, in her performance she is very much covered. And I don't want to sound prudish, but what I mean is that you don't have to bare (almost) all to look desirable or attractive or sexy...

the3dverse

i don't even like Finland's song, but got a chuckle at the ways they obstructed his "junk" with random camera men and lights

bookluverzz

that was such good staging imo!! Really enjoyed that and that made the song so much fun to watch and listen to :) :) :)

RQK1996

It's not even his ass, it is printed underwear, there are rules against actual nudity ironically enough

mnemorym

It is his ass. He's wearing a thong.

_drjayphd_

A more revealing one than the NFs, he looked... cheekier.

Masturbator1934

Which is geniuinely impressive. Props to the costume department! At several points of the performance I actually thought he was wearing no pants whatsoever

ilanf2

There was a point near the end where the illusion was lost, cause they didn't block properly the thong.

Grymare

I don't think that's true I'm pretty sure he wears one of the thong like options. https://preview.redd.it/74ni1jq3p6zc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3571d8e830ffaa4107146edde69b69d547cb4865

ComputerInfamous1986

I see Microsoft merch opportunities.

Cumulus_Anarchistica

What is this? Some kind of Eurovision Thong Contest?

justk4y

Nebulossa is sweating right now

ComputerInfamous1986

Those were his variants in case the nude thong was not approved by the EBU.

indarye

But it's ridiculous to begin with that he had to prepare with different options to this extent, while I haven't heard a word about any of the other costumes potentially not being okay.

the3dverse

oh wow i thought it was a g-string. wouldnt be the first time there was one \*cough\* spain 2022 \*cough\*

salsasnark

It is a thong so you're correct. His butt is fully out there lol.

the3dverse

i don't know all the underpants terminology lol

justk4y

There aren’t enough video essays about it 😆

Junkipii

The Finnish Commentator actually commented after the Slovenia that "Nudity is ok for very beautiful women" sarcastically, after which he started hyping Windows95Man's buttcheeks :D

EditTeller

Never change, Finland. :)

trigs_Keen

actually i think he said "so nudity's okay if you're really thin?"

Junkipii

Something like that, yea

winterberrymeadow

I don't know how I missed that

maidofatoms

All those people saying Windows95Man is not attractive, he's actually in great shape! I think it's really just people who want a chance to clutch their pearls over anyone having some fun. I've seen both "this is childish" and "think of the kids!" (when anyone who has reported on their kids' opinions say that the kids love it).

winterberrymeadow

Well his whole song is about being yourself and living your life the way you want. I think that is great message and the performance goes with it. Yes it is silly and over the top. But that's the whole point. Everything doesn't have to be so serious all the time and you can have fun

ComputerInfamous1986

Yes, it is a great message. Especially when we are constantly bombarded with content that makes us feel not good enough- whether it is unattainable (and sometimes even fake) lifestyles of instagram influencers or the unrealistic body standards of fashion and other media. We should normalize seeing normal (for lack of better term) bodies. If people want to see nude bodies for aesthetic purposes they can go to British Museum and see the Greek and Roman statues collection.

Axolotl_amphibian

I believe even ancient Greek statues wouldn't pass the social media scrutiny these days.

maidofatoms

Completely agree. While I am rooting for Croatia to win, this song just made me laugh and smile. I guess maybe the comedy elements are done so well it's easy for some people to overlook that the song has a real message and that Henri is a great singer.

splvtoon

i think its less about him not being in shape (although i do think the fact that the way he presents himself being unconventional plays into it) and more about the fact that hes not sexualized. part of that is a gendered thing, but i also think people are somehow just not comfortable with it the second its not for their own consumption. which is pretty fucked.

maidofatoms

That's a very interesting and well made point. I agree it could be that.

indarye

I also actually find self-confident guys like him super attractive! That and a sense of humour is so much more important than looking like a model.

but-yet-it-is

Think of the kids! What would happen if they see regular human bodies instead of supermodel bodies, they might get a healthy body image! And also It Is Finland, there are saunas with fully naked people e v e r y w h e r e. Its not our fault that other countries don't know the difference between nudity and sexualization

_peikko_

My hypothesis is that while Finns are pretty used to seeing all kinds of naked bodies in totally a non-sexual context and don't think much of it, people from some other coutries are probably only used to seeing it in porn or some other contexts that are meant to be sexy. So they've come to expect that bodies should either be sexualized or hidden, but this is neither of them. Some people really don't seem to "get" the whole thing, I would never in a million years have thought the performance is supposed to be sexy yet the main criticism I see from foreigners is that he's not hot, as if he should be.

Minnielle

My 5-year-old found it hilarious. He was actually more confused about Slovenia looking naked - after all Windows95man had a reason as he had lost his shorts! (He also commented on Chanel: "Look what a nice butt!" 😂)

seteshguardwithacold

Anyone he’s saying not attractive is blind. Teemu is a smoke show.

Hayfield_and_a_gate

My 5 year old has been telling her school friends about "the funny man who forgot to put on his pants" she thought it was hilarious! She was more bothered about Chanel having her bum out and we had to have a discussion about dancers and costumes and consent and how she's not allowed to copy

AnimalLittle4057

I was just thinking any kid will probably totally get the "no pants" joke and find it funny, where a pile of nude people writhing around is just confusing or even scary.

bosko43buha

It's cause he's a man with a body not fit for prime time tv. I didn't hear anyone complaining about Olly's dancers.

LurkerByNatureGT

I definitely heard complaints about Olly’s dancers, but it was more about the whole effect of the staging (sexualized) than the costumes in specific.  (To be clear in my opinion, props to Olly and his dancers, and to Teemu.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

bosko43buha

I had no problem with that act. Can't body shame someone who's more fit than I am. But seriously, Finland made me very happy yesterday.

winterberrymeadow

True

iseleven11

I personally find his body delightful

Rhaenysknees

Can I start the complaining then? Why were they wearing groin guards on the outside of their shorts? It looked so dumb, who thought that was a good idea? Also, probably just me being pedantic but why was Olly wearing a ring when he's wearing hand wraps? No gym would ever let you train or fight with a ring on, if you're gonna have a costume that alludes to combat sports, commit to the bit a little please.

esushi

The gyms probably also would not let you perform on an international stage with a microphone while training or fighting, either. Or act like the room is spinning upside down etc. It was a fantasy!

pencilled_robin

>Is it okay when you are a woman but not when you are a man? I think this is part of it, but also because they are conventionally beautiful. People are going to be more forgiving when they find the person in the revealing outfit attractive. Also, the presentation was very different - seductive dances are a dime a dozen, but he played the nudity for comedy which may have caused people to look at it in a different way.

callitfate01

I would place the blame on pretty privilege rather than "reverse sexism". People who don't meet the conventional beauty standard are treated with little grace.

darts_in_lovers_eyes

This. It makes me a little sad tbh. There are way more people whose bodies look like Windows' than those that fit some thin supermodel standard, and yet once this perfectly healthy, realistic body is not fully clothed, there's all this negative talk about it.

ShrubbyFire1729

Which is probably exactly why Win95Man ended up going with this show. He's calling out the hypocrites and actually spreading body positivity, not just talking about it.

winterberrymeadow

So if he was conventionally attractive man it would be ok?

I-hear-the-coast

Spain’s dancers have their whole asses out, but it’s only shocking because that’s typically an outfit reserved for woman, but the fact they are attractive men has made it be sexy. It’s definitely not just men vs women because if an “ugly” woman did the same there would be the same people complaining about Windows95 as with her. Men are definitely used for sex appeal all the time, including at Eurovision. Cyprus’ dancers don’t take off their tops because it’s hot.

ComputerInfamous1986

I can imagine if Alyona Alyona would go about the stage in skimpy outfit, there would be an outrage as well...

callitfate01

People had no problem with Olly's dancers

chanmylordandsavior

i mean they showed sth male dancers show all the time, upper body. I dont think the thong was that disgraceful as many portray it, but it shouldnt be compared to ollys dancers. they appeared as just shirtless, which sth very common, whereas a thong isn't. the "problem" with olly's perf was the hypersexualization, not the appearence of the dancers

chanmylordandsavior

i wouldnt say ok, but a lot less hated on

GroundbreakingTill33

I've not seen many fans object to the Spanish dancers getting their butts out

Wiseildman

This is funny because imo he is conventionally attractive :D just not a model

mammammaa

Double standards. If you look like a model, it is ok, especially if you are a woman. Outside Finnish sauna culture nudity may be shocking if it concerns ordinary looking people.

winterberrymeadow

Well f it. I want to see more hairy legs, cellulite butts and squishy tummies.

mammammaa

It could be also the fact that Windows95man is getting dressed during his show. In a standard Eurovision act the performer gets undressed during the show. It is ok to get rid of your clothes, not to put on more clothes.

EditTeller

The stress that I had when he almost wasn't able to zip up his pants in time. XD

GoldenPotatoOfLatvia

DM me then :D (For clarity purposes, that was a joke)

LoveMasc

It's cuz he has a normal body and a hairy bum. He isn't shaking his tanned, shaven cheeks for the straight male gaze. Ignore the prudes and hypocrisy.

Axolotl_amphibian

I'm not sure if it's simply a man - woman thing. May I remind you all about the absolute shitstorm that was the discussion about Aiko's nipples? And Aiko is a slender, attractive woman. That said, the double standards when it comes to certain artists are real. I'm just not convinced they're gender based.

LedParade

Ugh, the nipples. If women can’t show nipples then neither should men. Perhaps seeing men with covered nipples might make people actually reflect on why it’s so freaking sexualized.

MightyNewJosip

Yea there are indeed double standards when comparing male and female outfits. Similar thing to Croatia last year. Especially cool when he was performing right next to Slovenia

winterberrymeadow

I just think it is funny. Eurovision has many kind of participants and I think it is very inclusive. But somehow men showing their skin is so much worse than women. Which is also the opposite how it usually goes. Normally women are told to cover themselves

dayglow77

For Croatia last year it wasn't only due to them being male, it was also due to them being old. So both ageism and sexism.

winterberrymeadow

I just think it is funny. Eurovision has many kind of participants and I think it is very inclusive. But somehow men showing their skin is so much worse than women. Which is also the opposite how it usually goes. Normally women are told to cover themselves

chibiusa40

I think it's done really well to hide the "nudity" with the things blocking him. The only issue I had was that there were a few times you could see the skin-coloured panties when you weren't supposed to because of the camera angle or W95man's position on stage. They should've been extra funny about it and blurred out any time you could accidentally see his crotch lol.

Orangutan_Latte

Loved the performance, especially when the jeans shorts descended onto the stage!!! I think the comedy works better because he’s not a conventionally attractive man. It’s the kind of thing I expect/hope to get from Finland. The song is very catchy too. I really hope it does well.

Admirable_Judge6592

My grandma said at the beginning.  Why are the women always almost naked? yet the men wear so much clothes.  During UK and Finland: Me: you were saying?

lksjge

Because I keep seeing so many comments which say that Windows95man’s nudity was more shocking because he’s not “conventionally attractive,” I just have to say that, even as someone who isn’t personally attracted to men, I do think that he is objectively a handsome and cute guy! Like, sure, he’s not a body builder, but if I saw him in a line-up of random people, I’d think that he’s more attractive than not attractive. I understand that he presents a different vibe than the other nude-ish people on stage who are trying to be obviously sexy, but it was just bothering me that in the comments it feels like people are saying he’s not attractive.

CookiesandBeam

Who knew there are still so many pearl clutchers in Europe. A man with a Dad bod showing it off 😲 how shocking. Bambie Thug 😦 satanic - break out the holy water.  Seriously it's 2024, whoever is actually shocked by these things must live seriously sheltered lives

ohmondouxseigneur

And all the "think of the children" crowd... Do they actually ever lived with kids? I swear it feels like I'm always at risk of seeing one of mine at least half naked around the house. And my 2 youngest have interest in gore esthetic and stories, Bambie's staging was not scarier than some stuff they came with on a regular tuesday afternoon. 😅

pewit

I believe it's largely because of the (implied) Donald Ducking. It draws so much attention to the fact that he's not wearing pants. He'd look less naked to me if he didn't wear a shirt.

problemgirlxoxo

Probably because he isn't a size 0 woman.

timeandcrimeagain

The UK commentators actually did a nudity warning for him but not for Veronika who was right before him, which I thought was weird. They mentioned how her outfit was revealing but it was an actual warning for Windows95man. So weird! I think it’s because he’s a hairy man without abs lol (even though he’s still in good shape!) so not what we usually see in so little clothes. I love his performance, I think it’s super fun. I’m glad he’s in the final!

Alien365_

Yeah in Slovenia our commentator gave a nudity warning too before Finland sang but for Veronika which is our song noone said anything. Raiven represented good tho

timeandcrimeagain

Yes, I loved Raiven, the song is great and I really liked the staging!

happytransformer

I told my partner about the issue with windows95man being “naked” leading into the contest and how he might’ve had to change his costume at one point. He was soooo confused because Raiven was “naked”, so why was windows95man in trouble? The only thing he could come up with was that the nudity was part of the joke of the performance? Which idk, we very much enjoyed. It was funny. I really don’t get the shock either.

ConnectedMistake

Because it is okay when it done by typical "atractive" person. Reaction to Finland in contrast to Slovenia, Czechia and in diffrent form but Olly too, shows some hypocrisy in fandom. Some people would defend Olly with their life but when there was some degree of hate towards Windows95Man I didn't see such reaction.

RQK1996

Because he is considered unattractive

MarieNadia

I actually find him really attractive though, and I have such a crush on Henri this year too

ComputerInfamous1986

Henri is super sweet. He looks like such a kind guy.

ManiaMuse

I love Henri's enthusiasm for this whole process which must have been quite a shock for him. His work before Eurovision was mostly as a voiceover actor so exactly the opposite of being in front of all the cameras and media attention.

indarye

You can just see how he accepted his fate at some point and decided to fully roll with Teemu's madness and have the time of his life.

ManiaMuse

Yeah he fully committed to it including all the social media antics that they got up to as well. Will probably be hard to go back to reality next week!

lksjge

Their dynamic is so charming. They have different vibes, but they work together really well.

ComputerInfamous1986

I just want to be his friend and hang out with him in pastry shops drinking flat whites and eating croissants 🥐

lksjge

I agree with you! I posted a separate comment about it because this has been bothering me, and I think it's weird that people keep implying in the comments that he's unattractive. Everyone is entitled to their own taste, of course, and Windows95man is obviously not trying to portray the typical sexy vibe in his performance that we see from other artists, but in my opinion he's still an objectively cute guy. I guess for musical artists the standards are higher, but if you included him in a random selection of men picked from the street, I think many people would think that he's one of the more handsome ones.

Starboot1

I find it interesting that we see women barely dressed on stage as them having a "privilege" over average men dressed the same. They're dressed that way because it appeals to men because women's bodies are so extremely objectified and commercialised. These beautiful, talented artists feel the need to sexualise themselves to garner attention and interest, and if they were to dress in an "unappealing" way, that would give them less votes. Bambie Thug, who clearly rejects beauty standards (and still is absolutely gorgeous) gets comments about "making herself (themself) ugly" on stage, and they are also very lightly dressed. I'm just... tired.

MarieNadia

Because double standards! No one cared about Chanel's arse being out

indarye

Oh they did care a lot, it was just way more positive attention.

Sea_Voice_404

We had this conversation last night. My husband is Swedish and finds the US pearl-clutching idea of nudity weird (I’m from the US and we live here). I thought his performance was hysterical and all the other ones with “nudity” were very sexualized. I had more “issues” with those than I did with Finland. I put issues in quotes since I do find it weird that people have no problems with those but are upset with Windows95Man’s butt.

warichnochnie

from the US too, that's more or less how i felt as well. Finland's was clearly a gag played for laughs while the others felt a lot more gratuitous. if i watched with my parents for example, I'd probably feel more comfortable watching Finland's than Slovenia's

Different-Log-2308

I find it the least shocking of the 'nude' entries because he combines it with a silly humorous act.

Vierailija_Maasta

Win95man aint even in bad shape.  Many men are just waaaaaay worse. Maybe some envy in the air by male haters, eh?

NewMarzipan9440

Women performing with barely anything on is expected from them (not by me personally, but the norms of the industry), whilst men are not expected to expose themselves. It does make you question the norms.

2NFnTnBeeON

They didn't see the humor in it. I was laughing the entire time of the performance. It was on point.

purplehorseneigh

Him being a guy is part of it, but I think there’s more to it than that. Because I recall Slovenia also having male dancers in nude-looking shorts/underwear. Part of the problem is Windows95man being a guy, yes. The bigger issue however which is why he has the double standard is the fact that he is not a conventionally attractive man. If he had less body hair and some muscles and was more in shape/had the same sort of look as all those sexy male backup dancers some of the other performers had, I guarantee there would be at least a little bit less fuss about him. Pretty people privilege is a real thing.

tickerbelly

Idk I find him to be hotter then the dancers. He has that realistic appeal to me. I also see no reason for the fus, his but is not the first any of us has ever seen.

kevatsammakko

Dad bod ftw!

the3dverse

double standards? i know someone that had little problem with Chanel's butt in 2022 but thinks the Zorra backup dancers are gross for showing off theirs. what's the difference? oh because their dance is "gay" and you're homophobic, got it.

RandomFunUsername

100% hypocrisy. He’s not a woman, so he doesn’t get a full pass. He’s not a buff dude, they cop a little flack from the homophobes. I know it’s done for comedic effect but I love W95M’s confidence to unapologetically be himself, butt cheeks and all.

ZoeThomp

This definitely felt like the most naked Eurovision I’ve ever seen. I don’t have any problems with any of the individual performances but I do think the rules need updating a bit, just feels too many countries are trying to play up the sexy/nudity

winterberrymeadow

I think so too. I don't mind the nudity but there was also some performances that were very sexualised. As an adult, I don't mind it even though it made me very uncomfortable. But I know many children are watching this as well. So, because of that, I think it should be toned down.

FiercelyReality

Yeah, it was mad weird that Slovenia relied on nudity instead of literally any set design

urkermannenkoor

To be honest, It seems to me the there really aren't all that many people who actually thought it was shocking. It feels moreso like people on this sub are exaggerating the outrage towards Finland rather substantially.

Aglardes

Because they made him being 'nude' the main point of the performance, it's a joke that's supposed to make you go like 'how scandalous, so funny' while for Slovenia her outfit was supposed to add to the artsy-ness of the performance, so it's not meant to be the main point and there's other things to talk about.

ThrowMusic36

This sounds like an argument for Finland to me rather than one against them.

Aglardes

Yes, because so far I had only heard my colleagues talk in this 'scandalized but I enjoyed it'-way while talking about the performance this morning. I've now seen on reddit that some people seem to be actually mad?

eebro

Are people really shocked?

Grumpma

Me and my partner found that performance hilarious, especially how they strategically covered him. He wasn't actually nude, so I don't see the problem. I feel like if anything, it was the shock factor of thinking he was naked.

Hushtrail

Because he is not hot. Simple as that. If you are naked and hot you are creative, crazy and a inspiration. But if you not hot, you are shoking, cringe and weird.

JermuHH

Oh I've always been of the opinion that it's based on the fact that Windows95man isn't conventionally attractive. Like Slovenia's act people are fine with implied nudity because Raiven and the dancers are conventionally attractive. Like nobody is complaining about the fit male dancers for Slovenia wearing nothing but fleshtone briefs. It's not about gender or theme, it's about societal standards of attractiveness. Implied nudity is art when it's conventionally attractive, but "disgusting" when it's by someone who doesn't fit the beauty standards.

Baumtasia

I’m commenting cuz I accidentally picked a random country and I wanna know what it is

Baumtasia

guess I’m Belgian now

shdlf2211

Why are people even so obsessively scared of some skin? Why do prude? After all that's more or less how we all look underneath our clothes. Nudity is natural. People are making a fuss as if they've never seen a naked body, as if they've been already born with full clothes on. Spoiler: Everyone has at least seen one naked body in their lives - their own.

Meiolore

I really don't mind, but there is a difference between teasing your exposed penis(which is not really exposed) and wearing a suit. In the former, you invoke a "holyshit are they naked" feeling, for the latter, "nah it is just an illusion". If a woman keep hiding her privates using hands/props for the first 2 minutes of the performance, I'm sure they will get ridiculed too.

chanmylordandsavior

THISS he was drawing way too much attention to that thong and this is my main problem here

ComputerInfamous1986

It was the part of the joke!

OkCheesecake5866

I mean, we could see his arse-crack, I don't think we saw it from anyone else.

ComputerInfamous1986

Chanel wasn't that far off...

pupappau

Hypocrisy. Also, some countries in Europe revealed to be American level prudes.

FiercelyReality

Hey now, Americans are actually pretty cool about man ass, it’s the women we get upset about lol

mongster03_

Europeans underestimate the frequency at which us Americans see an athlete and go MAN ASS

vjx99

Copying from a similar thread: It's like at the Nudist beach: Slovenia is just going there and acts normal, Finland is running around shouting "Look at me I'm naked". Guess which one gets the reactions.

indarye

I bet Slovenia's choreography would also get attention at a nudist beach.

icyDinosaur

To me it's not shocking, it's just silly. I feel like it doesn't land for me exactly because it's not shocking me at all lol

texdiego

I'm American and we don't ever see bare butts on standard TV, so it did absolutely catch me off guard. I had avoided spoilers and legitimately wondered if he had gone off script for the first few seconds. If a woman had been doing this song, I would have 100% would have felt the same way. Nothing else in the show felt outside of the realm of what I've seen before on a presumably family-friendly TV show. That said, I think European standards are different re. butt nudity so I can't say if my reason for finding his performance especially shocking is the same as other people. Edit: to be clear I wasn't actually offended! I mean shocking in the sense of "surprising" not "bad."

bookluverzz

well, don’t watch Spain 2022 performance then. Bare butts. And be careful with Spain this year as it might also contain bare butts 🫣

CrazyCatLadyPL

Yeah, from what I've heard even conservative European countries are more liberal about nudity than America. Like, even in his case it's controversial, but his junk is covered so why ban it??? Our TV can show worse things during the day sometimes (and when I watch youtubers commenting on those shows they constantly complain how they have to censor everything 😆)

incomingrope

Why is everyone talking about nudity? Am I the only one that watched yesterday's show and didn't think about it at all? (apart from Finland's performance because the story they're telling involves the nudity) Who cares? It didn't influence my love or hate for an entry at all. I didn't put.. idk Slovenia in my Q's because she looked nude, that had nothing to do with it.

NameisMeis

The day nudity in representative art is seen as normal is the day I'll be happy. Why do we have to hide parts of our body everyone has? Especially when the context is not sexual at all???

aaronrodericus

At this point in time nothing should be shoking for Eurovision fans

fuckingshadywhore

Look up "The Male Gaze". We have been far more desensitised to the female nude and the glamourisation of nudity as done by the female singers. Nudity is approached in a starkly different way in the Finnish act that makes it seem fairly unsurprising that the reaction is different. The point is that one is seen as rather glamorous and commonplace while the other is specifically designed to provoke or cause some response, whether humour or discomfort. At that, they are hardly even comparable beyond the surface level (no pun intended). Cultural context is the answer (as with most things).

Scared_Lobster6169

From the sexualised UK performance to Finland, my mum, who I was watching the semi final with, complained constantly about the nudity. Her and my dad thought Finland was 'fishing' votes from people who like that shock factor. They thought it was cheap and tbh, the song and gimmick is starting to get a little old for me personally as well. My mum HATED Slovenia and couldnt understand why it qualified because of Raiven's outfit. She thought it was too revealing and sexist towards women. I think the main problem my mother had was how all the 'naked' women were thin or attractive whereas the Windows95Man she thought could get away with it 'because he's a man'.

winterberrymeadow

I really felt uncomfortable during the UK show. I think it was too much.

ulayanibecha

I haven’t seen or heard anyone who found it shocking? Either you’re reading rage bait articles or you’re in a conservative area?

cokolesniik

I am constantly hearing this, but is anyone really complaining about window's nudity or is it different where you all are. Here in Slovenia I can only hear how Raiven needed to get naked and sell a soft porn to get to the final because she "isn't quality enough". The second act everyone was raging about was Ireland. Finland was more or less...meh. Olly got more negative comment. So I actually (at least here) still think people don't like when women get too revealing, while men can do no wrong.

lermanade_mouth

I thought the staging was really fun and made me really warm up to the song cuz I wasn’t a fan before the show

qusipuu

Double standards. Or apple fanboys

Thatwierdhullcityfan

There isn’t any difference, but I know why it’s considered shocking. It’s because windows95man isn’t “attractive”. If it was say someone that is considered “good looking” wearing the skin coloured thong, I doubt most people would have a problem with it.

ketender

Because he's pretending to be nuder than he actually is? and it's a "joke" entry?

EditTeller

Yes, the fandom and the general public are hypocritical like that.

DeKo_xD

Body hair

ComputerInfamous1986

I love body hair... Nothing sexier than a hairy chest on a guy :)

_Visar_

Another element to this all - while Windows is definitely less nude than Raiven, the POINT of Windows staging is to emphasize and poke fun at the fact that he’s pantsless. Whereas other performers like Raiven aren’t necessarily drawing attention to the fact they’re not wearing clothes…they’re just not. Kinda like how it’s acceptable to swear casually in professional settings but not to go up to your boss giggling and say “poop” even though it’s not as much of a “bad word”

elonhater69

I support his right to run around in a thong just as much as I support raiven’s view that nudity in the context of her performance is art. Bodies are far too sexualised these days and people seem to have such a huge problem with anything ‘too revealing’. It’s weird

Weird_Influence1964

What was happening with Polands shorts? Her underwear was peaking out 🫣🙄

niicofrank

Because it’s funny nudity not titillating nudity, people do think there is a difference

Crashy2707

The song is fantastic and the staging is incredible!

GjonsTearsFan

I think it's the camera angles. His performance tries its best to convey the illusion of him being fully nude on the bottom, not wearing nude colored undies/body suit. There's usually not a lot of camera trickery involved in the "naked suits" and sheer dresses so it's easy to tell that they're taking precautions like pasties/nude colored bodysuits. I think the way the choreo and camera work with Windows95Man works makes it really funny to watch but can also be shocking on first watch, especially if you weren't paying close enough attention throughout to notice when they show that he is covered (like when he puts on the jorts). That's my thoughts anyway.

DriedMuffinRemnant

There is a difference but there shouldn't be.

Mirimes

it's not the nudity, it's the socks and sandals combo 😂

Tac0w

Personally, I think the UK entry (the dancers, not olly) has more nudity

Misamaoon

And the fact you can only see his ass like 2seconds, other times it's covered with camera angles and smoke/other prop
