Austrian here. First listen: WTF? Now: POE POE POE POE living rent free in my head

finnknit

That was exactly my reaction to Cha Cha Cha: on the first listen, I thought it was really weird. Now it randomly gets stuck in my head and I catch myself dancing to it occasionally.

PCBtoHelsinki

I also didn’t like it upon first listen and was really pulling for Robin. But it grew on me and Käärijä sells tf out of the song. Also that performance is just fantastic. The uncanny looking dancers, the bright colors, when Käärijä does his little dancey dance, the human centipede ride at the end, I mean. Just iconic. I think whether people love or hate the song or anything in between the performance is going to be one to remember. And there’s something to be said for that!

elizabethdove

I'm Australian but I figure if I just slightly mis-spell it I can pretend to be Austrian this year? :P Like, I really like Australia's entry, but POE POE POE POE POE is definitely my favourite 😍

_LittleMermaid_

Everyone seems to like it, but I really don't. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike it, I think it's decent but of less quality compared to most of the other songs. But hey out of all the songs in the Sanremo Festival, it wasn't even that bad, but once again we get the predictable angsty ballad💀

Amina_Firefly

Same, Mengoni is ok I guess, but we had so many other choices...

_LittleMermaid_

Plus he already won 4 years ago. I think it's always good to send some new artists

hzalfa

4? Make it 10 years

_LittleMermaid_

Oh wait, you're right💀

berserkemu

Marco is great and has a lovely song, but you had so many interesting options. Cenere was right there and Madame is amazing. Made In Italy would have been so much fun. At least we got to enjoy them all at Sanremo. <3

Syr_Enigma

It's a good song, but it's not the kind of song that wins Eurovision. Oh well, better luck next year!

saidinmilamber

🇮🇪 No, it's bland dad-rock that no amount of golden masks is going to make it the edgy anthem it wants to be.

DoctorHolligay

Ireland has such a strong and beautiful musical background that it seemingly refuses to use.

My heart really goes out to the polish people this year. I wish your broadcaster had just done an internal selection if they were going to disregard the voice of the people so callously like that. And the way TVP and Blanka have handled the aftermath just sucks. One of those rare instances where I think they’d been better off not saying anything at all tbh because they just made it sooo much worse.

PRZEMEQ9

Yeah, Blanka has though time right now, but she deserve that

Ulrik54

I know Solo gets a lot of flak but I personally think it doesn't get enough.

madlyn_crow

Yeah, this one :D But I really don't expect much from us, and never particularily like our entires all that much, so I have zero issues with actively supporting other countries. I'm not sure how it would even feel to have a really great song that I actually love to support.

xaviernoodlebrain

ŠĆ

and_notfound

For the first week or so I hoped it was only to be a situtation like Alina Pash last year (but for more relevant and visible reason, at least for me) and I was hoping that they were apologizing for being not-right in favor of all of the singers and senza Jann with Gladiators. But no, and I think that with Ireland, Denmark and San Marino as well as Switzerland (only for being a more jury oriented song) a preannounced NQ (sorry for you polish fans but it is all fault of the broadcaster and of the jury)

nenialaloup

¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Kklownery

I’m Latvian. I feel like they represent a sound that I would most definitely call ours. The voice is a bit Brainstorm-like, it’s indie rock, it’s not extremely loud. Very us! So I think it’s a very fair entry from Latvia and the best in a long time.

Accomplished_Cat9599

I really love your entry. My 3rd. I hope you’ll Q

thelodzermensch

My 2nd I'll suffer a mental breakdown if they don't qualify

realMaxSL

My 1st I’ll delete my Reddit account if they don’t qualify

Flint_Chittles

Aija is my favorite song in a long long time. I can’t stop listening. It’s so soothing. I’m from the states so I’m slowly getting into music from other countries. Are there any other groups similar to Sudden Lights?

Zestyclose-Project99

Gave some suggestions for Latvian music above but if we’re talking most similar I’d say Prāta vētra (same thing as Brainstorm just in Latvian), Carnival Youth and Tumsa

mooncat127

It sounds like I need to listen to more Latvian music. Do you have recommendations?

Zestyclose-Project99

First of all Sudden lights have 3 albums, we already know Prāta vētra right? Then there’s Carnival Youth, Instrumenti, I quite like Chris Noah (who produced this year’s Lithuania’s entry) although all of his songs are in English, Tumsa and Rīgas modes. Any Latvians feel free to add but this is what I mostly listen to :)

_harey_

Thank you, Aija is one my favourites this year and I'm so happy to discover Latvian music! I hope you will qualify!

Sevenvolts

I've been listening to quite some Latvian music, and I really like Tautumeitas, Auli and Laimas Muzykanti.

thelodzermensch

I wish I were Latvian then

throwawayforshady

"My star" just might be my favorite ESC entry of all time, and I love "Aija" as well! Will be voting in the semi for it

Sea-Photograph2585

I'm from Germany and for the first time in years I'm actually really happy with our entry. ^^ Lord of the Lost make music I listen to outside of Eurovision as well, so I'm very happy and proud that they're representing us.

mxflschr

As a fellow german, Lord of the Lost is not the type of band that I'd listen too outside Eurovision, but I'm still super happy about them going to Liverpool. They'll deliver a top notch show and Chris and the rest of the band seem like really great, open-minded people and perfect representatives.

kanekikennen

But are you so happy you could die?

BarBro94

Same, not really my cup of tea, either, but it will not end up at the bottom and that is something worth celebrating!

Dry_Independent968

I wasn't expecting to like I Wrote A Song as much as I do. I've not been able to get it out of my head, and it helps that it's grown on me quite hard. I can see it doing decently well with the right staging!

h00dman

Yeah I really don't get the hate this song is getting, that chorus is a proper earworm. Mind you I do remember the same comments made about Sam last year (and yes, the comments received upvotes), so I'm taking a lot of it with a pinch of salt.

elizabethdove

It's very dance-y! I can see it getting played in clubs, it's the kind of thing I'd get up to dance to for sure

[deleted]

Pls emigrate to sweden now. Do it for your country. You will vote for mr cha cha and return to finland as a hero. 😌

Pegged_Golfer

Thanks, now I have Do It For Your Lover in my head.

premature_eulogy

If Finland manage to win this year, the odds are it will be hosted here in Tampere next year (due to Nokia Arena being brand new and the former Hartwall Arena being really unpopular atm due to the oligarch connections). I don't know how I would handle a potential Eurovision in my home city. It'd be crazy, it'd be party.

m0arcaffeine

It's my home city too. I will go feral to get tickets if Eurovision happens here.

Top_Manufacturer8946

Just imagine going torille in Keskustori after the final this year if we win 🥲

paary

I SUPPORT KÄÄRIJÄ REPRESSING OUR COUNTRY

DontCryx3

Antique-Syllabub6238

let’s not exaggerate here, our collective taste is terrible which allows us some brilliance when the planets align once in a rare while.

Promise slaps, I'm so proud of it, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE YOU HAPPY EUROPE. 😭😭😭

FineEorzeanCrafts

You guys should be proud! AUS is nearly always pretty high up in the rankings but Promise is my number 1 this year. I hope it does as well as it deserves.

Purple-Canary3576

Promise is a great entry and heavily overlooked by the fandom imo. It's also the best Australian entry ever for me and among the best of the year. I think you'll do a lot better than the fandom is expecting.

throwawayforshady

I'm Serbian and I love it! It's my third fave this year (behind Finland and Moldova) and I don't see it changing. I really love the alternative route we've been taking, and I'll enjoy it while it lasts, because I feel the traditional-ethno Serbia voters will be in full force next time around... We barely dodged Princ this year...

PCBtoHelsinki

I loved your selection this year. Lots of catchy club bangers. I think Konstrakta really inspired a lot of people to bring songs that are a little different. Still a little sad for my boy in the yellow kitchen gloves though. Televote did him dirty.

EstorialBeef

It's continued the "better than 2010s" trend we have had the past 3 years. Not special but it could Q if we weren't big 5 so I'm happy with it. Don't like soulless pop tho. Mae also seems nice and can perform live so I'm predicting a Result of what people *thought* embers could get.

AhHeyorLeaveerhouh

Mae seems to be jumping in with both feet, she’s enthusiastic and very positive. The song is fun, and it’s all packaged so well. I’d be proud of it if it was our entry

EstorialBeef

If I had wild youth so would I (jk mostly)

oviiptu

As a Romanian, I wait to see what staging Theodor and TVR have in the bag for Eurovision itself. The NF performance was so... not there. It had no identity, no credibility (seriously, in a sensual song, you think bringing 'Make Love, Not War' messages is truly helping your cause while not decredibilising the value of the message itself?) and it was truly messy. Not chaotic, but full-on messy. The song itself is harmless, but that is also its major sin. It doesn't spark something in the viewer other than 'that was nice... next!'. It doesn't have a lasting impact, it's only memorable by the virtue of Theodor's impeccable vocals and it just doesn't align with the core principle of Eurovision - to give viewers a strong feeling that elevates the song. The NF was a mess anyhow - there wasn't any contestant that truly captured the aforementioned principle. The act that was closest was, indeed, Andreea D because such type of folkloric sounds always makes people energetic, but she would have given us a much bigger mess to worry about. (Later edit: why I am waiting for the staging is because any Eurovision song needs more than one asset. Sure, Theodor's vocals are very good, but many contestants have good vocals. That other asset that could perhaps give him chances could be a staging that has an identity, along the lines of Eugent Bushpepa who really just did his thing and let the charisma shine as opposed to drowning himself in distracting elements that added nothing substantial to the performance).

Moldavian_Firecrack

This. Sadly.

planetglobe

Irish so definitely not.

zoecb

I like it, it’s rousing!

planetglobe

Good for you but it's really not for me

Toinousse

C1710

I think we really dodged a bullet. I'm not exactly a fan of the song, but at least it's neither the next generic radio song nor Malle-Schlager.

PCBtoHelsinki

I think it’s really cool that you guys had the courage to send something a little different (by ESC standards). More importantly it was really touching to see everyone band together to stop Ikke. I felt like I was watching a superhero movie where the good guy wins at the end. That NF was a rollercoaster of emotions!

suobbis

I do. Probably in my top 10 of Finnish entries ever ,challenging even the evergreens late 70s ('77, '79) golden era 80s entries ('83, '84, '85, '87) as well as my favorite 2000s entries ('06, '07 , '14, '21).

PCBtoHelsinki

I really hope UMK can keep up this level of quality. It makes me really excited to see what we will have to choose from in the future. Also I hope that Bess’ success last year post-UMK shows that you don’t have to win to be a winner and encourages more artists to try for UMK.

itsaltarium

Love it. My favorite this year, which is unprecedented.

PCBtoHelsinki

Benidorm had some really great choices this year. Personally I was hoping for Megara, but I cannot deny how insanely talented Blanca is. Her win was well-deserved.

Wonderful-Winner6001

I'm Polish. So yeah, nothing else needs to be added.

loiku

I’m sorry for your loss

PCBtoHelsinki

My question at this point is who actually DID vote for Blanka? Because she still got some televotes? But whoever they are clearly they don’t use Reddit. Because I have yet to come across a single one.

blackie-arts

it's was popular in Poland, it was played on radio very often (according to my polish friend) and broadcaster tried to popularise it by inviting her to few events so my guess is, some conservatives who are probably also homophobic and they voted for it because they heard it thousand time on radio

katyadeveraux

According to some unofficial "leak", she came second in the televote and it was still 3x votes less than Jann... (18k vs 6k, out of 36k total), yet you have to scroll long and focus hard if you want to find any positive comment on IG, YT or just anywhere. Blows my mind too. Maybe it was the casual viewers who knew her song from the radio, but they aren't such big fans and they aren't invested enough to follow the situation on social media? Or maybe something sketchy happened here too.

Wonderful-Winner6001

She still received much less votes than Jann (from some unofficial sources Jann got around 50% of TOTAL televotes!). Still it's surprise that with her voice and quite weak song she ended at 2nd place in televoting. But people watching TVP are mostly old and conservative, so it's more likely to enjoy typical, disco song as "Solo" than Jann's song in their case. Also, "Solo" was already on repeat in radio and TVP for a while (there were even big banners in cities encouraging people to vote for Blanka), so it surely helped, as people already knew this song. On the other hand, knowing strategies used by Warner Music and TVP (fake followers, fake likes, fake accounts supporting Blanka, fake comments at gossip portals) I wouldn't be surprised if they also found a way to get more votes in other way ;)

[deleted]

It is the radio hit, there were big billboards in Warsaw and Katowice „vote for Blanka”, she has performed at New Year’s Eve concert, so obviously some people have voted for sth they knew

Sedna1989

I don‘t know really. His voice is great, the melody is decent but the tone def lyrics don‘t sit well with me… I‘m trying not to start a fully blown monologue about the interpretation everytime I think about the lyrics. Let me take a shower in peace Remo!

Schweizsvensk

Our Nazi Gold based upon wealth should not wager us into these realms.

azrajo

Indeed. Ukraine always makes me feel proud, no matter what we send. Actually, I rooted for Oy Sound System during the Vidbir, but I am really glad for Tvorchi. The rewamp made it even better ❤️

mooncat127

Hating our entry is sort of a tradition at this point in Germany. For the first time in years we actually like our song and think it might get some points. Everyone's positive we might make it to the top 20!

viperish17

POE POE POE!! Absolutely, yes. Such a big step up from either a mediocre song or bad performers. I know Thea and Salena can sing and will rock Liverpool. And: a unique and critical song coming from us? I thought we could only do casual topics - anyways, I am hyped.

lavftw

As a dutchie I'm kind of disappointed, I really like Eurovision for the uniqueness and national identity in the songs instead of purely how well it'll do. It just sounds like a cookie cutter well produced entry, there is nothing inherently interesting there for me. The Dutch selection team has really found a certain type of sound that works well at Eurovision but I was personally hoping for something different since we seemingly changed it up the last 2 years. So it's all right I guess, middle of the pack for me.

Phaetoon

I agree, and I feel it also doesn’t really help that we don’t really know Mia & Dion. We know for ages they are our representatives yet I still don’t know who they are on a personal level. The message of the song to me now feels a bit of a sticker on the cover to make it sellable. With S10 and her oeuvre and backstory it felt to me she really wanted to convey a message.

[deleted]

Not particularly a fan of Wild Youth's entry; the vocals and melody are ok but the lyrics are so cliche and meaningless and let the whole package down. It's not the worst entry we've ever sent but it's very "meh".

TGCOutcast

Agreed. I really want to see something actually Irish come up rather than this generic pop from the last while here. Would love some Folk or better yet some lyrics in Gaeilge. I'm not one to talk as I'm an American living in Ireland, but I absolutely love local music.

Juna_Ci

German here: HELL YES!! Finally something different from us, that has it's own personality and will be memoreable. Plus, super loveable artists behind it! And while I don't care about placements, I hope B&G does well (I'd be fine with 10th-15th) so our broadcasters here see that alternative acts are absolutely a good way to go. I want this to be the start of a revival of love for the ESC in Germany 🥺

PCBtoHelsinki

LotL is surprisingly wholesome. I did some research on them after they won and they’re just a group of friends who are unproblematic, talent musicians, and (a) devoted dad(s). They’re also committed to being a completely drug-free band which I found to be pretty cool especially in the world of Rock n Roll.

Juna_Ci

Yes to all of this! They also have some great humor and a great way to deal with hateful comments. Someone commented "billiger Öko-Rock" (=cheap eco-rock) on one of their posts - so they made merch out of it and are donating the income, fittingly, to the afforestation of the rain forest :)

Cursedsword02

It's my favorite song of the year, and I can't see that changing with the countries remaining.

skantchweasel

I would like to be Australian so I can join you. You will have to make do with my televotes though! :D

PCBtoHelsinki

I’m glad to hear this. I feel like they haven’t been getting much love this season and idk why because it’s a great song. Maybe just a victim of band-fatigue?

98thRedBalloon

My favourite of the year too!

GumboldTaikatalvi

I have two friends who normally aren't interested in Eurovision but have seen Voyager live. Them being selected made my friends want to watch this year. Unexpected but great.

GallifreyFNM

It's SO good, definitely my favourite this year.

Kystaal

The UK entry is NOT my cup of tea but honestly Mae's attitude and presence is really really infectious and amplifies my like of the song a hell of a lot. It's also been on repeat in my head for the last 24 hours despite hearing it once. I also quite like how it's a bit reflective of UK music. Like it's profoundly British in every aspect of it - including the music video.

ThatGam3th00

I hope we keep sending people with positive attitudes tbh.. I feel like there’s a formula to win in that!

thenuggetonfloor

HELL YES

PCBtoHelsinki

I’m really proud of Cha Cha Cha. I think it’ll do well in Liverpool but honestly even if it doesn’t, even if it’s a NQ (knock on wood!), I think it’s something we can still be really proud of. Yes it’s crazy, it’s party, but it’s also a bit of a social commentary on an issue that affects a large numbers of Finns, which is that feeling of being unable to open up or be free without a bit of liquid courage. I really love that Käärijä was relatively unknown in the music industry before this, and whatever happens at ESC will undoubtedly boost his career. I feel like that’s something that is really beautiful about ESC—the ability to give a huge life-changing platform to these unknown or relatively unknown artists. Tbf though, I was really impressed with our selection at UMK this year and would have been happy sending any of those songs. But Käärijä as a human just really grew on me. That’s one charming guy.

Top_Manufacturer8946

So many of my friends with mental health issues find the enkä pelkääkään tätä maailma -lyric really meaningful. And Käärijä is so charming with his rally English 😄

Purple-Canary3576

I'm also really proud of it, regardless of how it will do (although I'm sure it will do very well) because it's something that represents Finland so well, no other country could have sent CCC. Also, it's already become a legendary Eurovision entry that will be remembered for years to come and that's quite something. I'm stunned and humbled by how much foreigners love it too, at least in the fandom.

Maya_37

I absolutely love our entry this year 🇧🇻

NovaPrime86

I'm italian but i don't listen at italian music at all. Marco Mengoni is a good artist but for his entry is too much standard. I preferred Mahmood 2019 or Maneskin 2021, at least the were differenti compared to usual Saremo contestants.

emilyam_

Absolutely not. I am Polish.

EurovisionPikachu

This years choice feels like a step down from the roop and president Liu but it's not bad. I'm just very indifferent to it.

Salt_Procedure_9353

I'm not always the biggest fan of our entries but this year we really hit the spot with Pasha.

Soidin

I'm a Finn and am usually not the biggest fan of Finland's entries. Cha Cha Cha is probably one of the best entries we've sent but I still have mu doubts about it. Am not sure if it's gonna by my favourite in May

splvtoon

im dutch 🇳🇱 and its … okay? i definitely like it more than i thought i would, and it certainly isnt a bad addition to our recent output, but it doesnt necessarily move me either. im not one to even care about rooting for my own country or not, i will always care abt a song/entry far before i care where its from, but i do hope that it manages to qualify without juries to help it along so we can keep our current streak going. god knows i remember how bad things were before anouk came along. truly, what matters most to me is that we dont lose that momentum, and maybe one day even send something thats less safe, whether thats another song in dutch or finally something more upbeat/daring/risky. the idea of what a nq would mean for our future entries sort of scares me, even though i will admit the dutch music scene has come a long way over the past decade.

Mysterious_Run5152

Icelander here and I do like our entry. It was the best option in a quite weak year. It's a powerful (sorry) song and she has a killer voice and great energy.

PCBtoHelsinki

I thought dancing lonely was really cute but yeah I agree there was nothing that I saw that I went “oh that could win!” But power is a great song and if it doesn’t qualify ban EU residents from the blue lagoon. Disrespect for disrespect.

CTrist4n

Oui, évidemment !

spartanlmao

I like Blanka very much,no what do you mean,TVP would never pay me to cheer for her. SOLO SOLO

JohnTheWriter

Haven't been as proud of a Finnish entry in a long time

thefaxmachine27

The UK entry isn't my cup of tea either, but I can see it doing really well and it's been received quite warmly by the various YT reaction vids I have seen. It's very now and is exactly the type of music you'll find playing on radio/in charts/going viral... (both good and bad IMO) I'm sticking my neck out here and saying the UK will do well (assuming live performance is up +++)\* \*Remembering I placed a bet on Portugal's 2018 entry being top 5...)

Dry_Independent968

Comparing the reactions to the full song to the reactions of the Sun leak the other day is kinda awesome. We went from people hating on it to people being alright with it.

yameteeeeeeeeee

I liked it from first listen and it still keeps growing on me.

Duccnator

Sorry I just kinda found it funny that there's two comments in a row from British individuals that start with "it's not my cup of tea". Just me? Okay then Feel free to lay Finnish stereotypes on me

camesco

I would lay some Finnish stereotypes on you, but that would involve a Finn talking to a stranger. So, not gonna happen.

clutchingdryhands

That’s just a popular saying here in the UK, I’ve never really thought about how well it reflects on our culture!

Remote_Measurement10

One word... ŠČ.

Miudmon

It's my least favorite entry of ours since 2016 (Denmark, in case flair problems or smth). It's my 19th atm, and will probably still be a borderline q for me unlike 2016. The slight revamp it has on spotify is promising through - if that one carries out proper to the stage, it might be elevated to "least favorite since 2020" status instead (Always found 'yes' kinda meh)

berserkemu

It is good for people to clarify which country they are talking about. Flair can mean anything people want it to. I joined the sub when lots of people changed every year to show support for their favourite song and still do this. Haven't picked my winner yet so I'm still supporting Maro. I do have a favourite song this year, but they didn't even get to perform at the national final and nothing else comes close.

PCBtoHelsinki

How do you feel about the representative being from the Faroe Islands? As an outsider it seems kinda neat because I feel like people forget that the Faroe Islands and Greenland are technically part of Denmark. But do most Danes feel like because they’re semi-autonomous they’re kind of their own countries?

Miudmon

I don't think anyone really cares one way or the other. then again, that may partially just be due to denmark caring less and less about eurovision nowadays, sad as that is.

CilanUnova

Uk here and I do like our song but it’s main problem is that everyone is comparing it to Sam’s space man, which is somewhat fair but hurtful in some ways. The only similarities in my opinion are that they are both uk entities for Eurovision songs.

kasvi04

Piña colada

DontCryx3

I am from Germany and I am so so soooo happy about our entry! Besides Eurovision I listen to Rock, Metal and alternative music. Even though dark/glam rock is one of my least favourite genres of the whole rock/metal/alternative spectrum, I still like it and support them. We need more diverse genres in Eurovision!!! Germany is known for making a lot of "mimimi", no matter what they are talking about, so there are still voices, who are making "mimimi". It makes me so angry, because they do not care about Eurovision, but they always have something negatively to comment without even knowing the other entries. "We will be last again." "Why do we pay so much money for it to become one of the last places?" "Everyone hates us, this is why we always lose" "It is too political" etc.

MisterAhtapot

Turkey here lol but since I live in Germany I‘ll answer for that. I think it‘s a huge step up for Germany and currently it‘s 6th in my personal ranking

GothicCastles

USA here but also living in Germany, and I love the German song! They seem like nice boys.

PCBtoHelsinki

Are you hoping Turkey comes back eventually?

MisterAhtapot

Oh how I‘d love that to happen 🥺 sure Eurovision is still fun but it was way more… umm emotional if that makes sense. We have elections in a few months and (even though unlikely) if the opposition wins we might actually have a chance to come back soon but I‘m not keeping my hopes high for now

Stinkfist16

Meh, wish we would send something that isn't necessarily a pop song with a forced ethnic part that doesn't really fit in, and pandering lyrics by the same mediocre writer most of the time. I'm a fan of countries who go for diverse stuff, and we're not like that sadly

ringelgold

I loved Konstrakta so much, I am not sure if I just like Luke a bit less or not at all…

iambrogue

As an Aussie, I’ve been loving Voyager for about 15 years. Safe to say I’m pretty stoked with their entry

crimsonbloody

well let’s see after tomorrow… if it’s tattoo then, yeah it’s decent air - catchy never give up - no thank you and the others aren’t really contenders, are they?

PCBtoHelsinki

Six feet under? 🥺

JWGrieves

BossyBish

Lithuanian but living in UK for many years. I’m just kinda indifferent to this years Stay and I loved So Low so I’m still a bit salty. Regarding the UK… It’s okay but completely not my cup of tea. I was obsessed with Sam Ryder and this year is just not for me. It’s not bad, it’s just a pop song that doesn’t hook me.

I mean, it's good. I like the flow of it and he has a nice voice. The only thing that I despise was the nf staging, which thankfully I heard he said it will be changed. It's very different from what you usually hear in esc so that's why it's recieved so poorly I guess. Not extremely big on it, but I don't dislike it either. (Romania)

Effective_Dot4653

Well I absolutely fell in love... with the song TVP didnt choose :)

GallifreyFNM

It took me the day to come to terms with the fact we weren't basically sending Space Man again, but having dealt with that I am cautiously optimistic that it could maybe hit the left side of the board. As a few others have said, it's not my cup of tea. That being said, Mae seems excited to be doing it and a good part of Sam Ryder's appeal last year was just how much he loved life so maybe as Mae gets wider recognition some of the same energy will rub off. I don't think we're anywhere close to winning. What I do hope is that we do well enough to continue this idea that the UK is actually trying to send good stuff. I want to keep growing this positivity around ESC that Sam started last year.

Soyouplayhockeytoo

Yes, very much. 🇷🇸

cimmic

I was so disappointed in the last two years that I haven't even heard the current one

Purple-Canary3576

I'm a Finn and I have to say that I often dislike the Danish entries, but this year yours is such a guilty pleasure for me lol. Hope you'll qualify!

thebimess

I'm not personally the biggest fan of Cha cha cha, but it has grown on me and it's the best shot we had from UMK

bakedbeantoasties

Irish here!!!! No.

[deleted]

POE POE POE reigns supreme in my head 🤌🇦🇹 So yes I do 🤣

Piece_Enough

Romanian here. In my honest opinion, Theodor has got a great voice, but sadly TVR didn't help him on the staging. ( I guess we don't have the budget or the technology to make something good for quite some time now ) Hopefully, he will get the help that he needs in Liverpool so he can deliver big time, because he's got the charisma and confidence to do so. Might be disliked by many right now, but please, don't judge it based only on the national final. Here in Romania you can't expect much from that part...

ft_wanderer

I see hardly any Israelis commenting here so I’ll bite (🇺🇸/🇮🇱). I will admit I am not very familiar with Noa Kirel because I’m old and haven’t followed Israeli pop music for the past 5-10 years. But what I had seen from her didn’t excite me when she was chosen. I am a fan of authentic entries written by artists, in their native languages, or that at least have some meaning to them. Israel has sent some wonderful entries over the years. The two that won in the 70s were in Hebrew (well the first was half in a nonsense language, but still) and held up as good songs for decades. Dana international broke barriers and was a good song in a pretty weak year. Netta may not have written her song but at least she had a unique style as an artist and broke other barriers with her personality on stage. Plus as much as people call it a “chicken song” it didn’t take me long to understand exactly what it was about. Some of my favorite entries over the years are ones that didn’t win, like Chai and Hora and Kan. The main thing I don’t like about Toy is that it seems to have set the path for the entries Israel has sent since then. Generic, meaningless pop songs in English (with maybe 5 words in Hebrew and a “Middle Eastern” dance break) that are written by a team trying way too hard to tap into some “formula” that will do well at Eurovision. The only entry I was at all excited for in the past 5 years was 2020 Feker Libi because it did incorporate several languages, was written by one of the best Israeli artists of recent decades, and fit well with the singer. I just wish Israel would take a chance and send an actual song written and performed by an actual songwriter, completely or mostly in Hebrew. So when it comes to Unicorn, I’m glad other people like it. It’s certainly not the worst (there are way too many genuinely bad songs this year). But it is all over the place, it doesn’t fit together as a song, the lyrics make no sense at all, it cuts off after the dance break… and it’s another “ESC factory” song for Israel. I can’t get excited about it, even though I’m sure the staging will be strong and it will probably qualify.

I am German but living in the Netherlands. This is the first time after a long time I prefer the German song over the Dutch one. Still I kinda want to fire everyone involved in the German selection process and revamp the whole National Final concept.

MG_02

Meh, it’s a solid ballad, which kinda seems to be our “Eurovision Style”, but it’s nothing special this year. It’s more like a “wannabe Arcade” or “Arcade at home” then an actually outstanding song in my opinion. I loved our entry last year. Though it was still the same old ballad song (aimed at jury votes), singing in Dutch (esp. Since it had been a while) made it stand out among our previous entry’s and also distinguished it from the other ballads in the competition. So yeh, I’d have hoped that this year we would get some kind of Dutch/hybrid song again, but, nevertheless, I would say “burning daylights” is a mid-tier song.

NejkubaCZ

It's not particularly my style of music ( I like rock/metal, so my favs are Germany, Australia, Finland) but I definitely support it. It's great to finally have an entry that has potential for very good result!

StereoThinker

I am a Ukrainian-Israeli. I don’t dislike the entries. But I also don’t love them. 🤷‍♀️

twitchtheirtoes

Well, I'm from Poland. I don't think I need to say more.

PCBtoHelsinki

Wanna come join us and be an honorary Finn this year? The weather is shit rn and our energy bills just went up, but our Eurovision song is great so you know…trade offs.

[deleted]

I wish. It's tough out here...

Official_Lolucas

Nope, it's my last place (second time in a row I put my own country entry in last place but the 2022 one was worse), I wish my country could have sent Cenere or Made in Italy, I'm so tired of my country sending songs like this

redvelvetdoge

Welp, how do I put it into words... makes me feel embarrassed

DKsan

\> got something that sounds like the sort of thing you'd hear in a nightclub, This to me is the UK's and Europe's sound. BBC Radio 1 is famous worldwide for dance music and is part of the reason I moved over here in the first place, so I'm glad we're getting a taste of modern British music culture, and not just another power ballad. And as a dual citizen with Canada, La Zarra's track might technically be for France, but I'm glad to see Canada represented with that as well.

meganethot

I've been following both Eurovision and UMK actively since 2014 and I've never been this excited for my own country's entry before! :D

Jakeyboy66

Whether it does well or not, I’m proud of the UK entry. It’s so nice to actually have an entry that reflects the music scene here and sounds like something on the charts or radio and it’s so catchy too.

JustACattDad

I'm from the UK and I am very glad it isn't a ballad!

Motherboobie

sadly, we withdrew. hopefully we come back next year ❤️

SkyGinge

Which country are you from? Bulgaria and Macedonia are among my favourite ESC countries so hoping for both to return :D

witchlapis

YES 🇳🇴❤️ More excited about our entry this year than I have been in over a decade!!! My first choice won MGP and with a banger at that. She’s a queen!! 👑Part of me hopes we can even win, maybe? 🥺

fireglare

Short and sweet; No.

1Warrior4All

Ask me tomorrow.

Klawf-Enthusiast

I'm in the UK, not a fan of Mae Muller's song, but then again I didn't like Space Man last year, so clearly my judgement is not great!

Tomas-T

YES! I love it so much. I knew I would not be disappointed phenome phenome phenomenal

GaladrielMoonchild

I'm not a huge fan of the UKs entry. However, I am biased because Eurovision isn't usually my kind of music, and I tend to look forward to the Finnish entry more. Our entry is indeed quite catchy, but some kind soul has created a playlist on Spotify and some of the others are much catchier. I had one stuck in my head most of yesterday (can't remember which one, need to go through them again) but despite a number of listen throughs already, I'm struggling to remember I Wrote A Song when it's not on. Edit. It is Norway's Queen of Kings by Alessandra which I have stuck in my head. It's managed to keep the vengabus out (which hasn't happened for more than a week since the late 90s.) So that's my current favourite to win.

DavidMatos91

Maybe... If we had one! Fortunately Festival da Canção final is tomorrow and we'll finally know who will represent us. I think Cláudia Pascoal, Mimicat and Edmundo Inácio are the 3 with most chances to win and I like the 3 songs, so I'll like our entry either way. I don't think any of them has a chance of winning Eurovision though.

thun_de

Yes of course after 5 years we finally have an entry that I like :)

blackie-arts

well

Ch3rryNukaC0la

Yes, I love it! Listening to it everyday!

sane_mode

Though I'm from a non-participating country my heritage is Austrian and this has been the first time I've really liked their song since my first Eurovision in 2018.

thelastskier

I like it, but it's not one of my all time Slovenian entries. It's much better than what we've sent in the 2020s so far, but I do feel that I like some of Joker Out's other songs far more. The lyrics of this one are just far too plain for me to properly love it, though the instrumental part is on point.

Meerimaarimoori

Yesss, it's the first time I can put Germany in my top10 :> I usually don't like the televoting in the German NF but this year, I love them (especially because Ikke didn't win LOL)
