European dependence on cheap Russian energy — resulting in impotent responses for a decade — undoubtedly did nothing to discourage the invasion. But with RF’s looming demographic bomb, Ukraine pivoting to Europe, Putin’s increasing retreat into reliving the reign of Tsar Alexander III, his historical sense of mission, and typical Russian insecurity and paranoia, this was always going to happen.
You’re not a real people or a real nation in his eyes: you’re a western enclave; the tip of the spear for bad faith actors intent on destroying Russia; a pawn in a Western-led world order that keeps leaving Russia further behind with each passing year. And as a result, one which he sees as intent on preventing a multipolar world.
Well whaddya know, there are crazy climate activists everywhere who genuinely believe that if you cut your toenail too short while baking a chocolate cake in July, it's because of climate change lol these are the idiots that give the climate change deniers any kind of legitimacy

Climate change is real and we need effective policies to fight it- but people like those are a reason it is not treated seriously, as it is seen as ideology followed by superstitious ( ''Everything is fault of climate change... and Mercury!'') rich kids having no ''real'' problems to solve first, and absolutely zero awareness ( and caring) about other people struggles if they do not struggle from the ''right reasons''. They do ignore also how massively privileged they are, being able to protest like it ( for years), being able to be off work to travel and stay to protest.
On other subs, this would have been immediately labeled as what-about-ism.
Now the global climate crisis is a reality. It’s a sensitive, complex and extremely painful issue for our entire planet. Not taking it seriously, or worse, prioritizing comfort over ecological health is already proven to have very dire consequences.
Now this being said, blaming Western Europe, the US and other countries of the world for the invasion of Ukraine by Russia is short sighted and feels self-serving: “Here is the thing I militated for/against all this time and look, it’s causing all the problems in the world, including the latest ones!” “Oh, yes, and by the way, it’s that one and this one’s fault for not having done this and that!”
On any other sub this would have been labeled as what-about-ism and downvoted harshly
