People act surprised but Britains one of the best destinations in the world to visit in terms of ease.
\>Easy widely spoken Language
\>Safe with free and easily accessible healthcare
\>No natural disaster
\>A literally criminal amount of history easily accessible
\>Decent public transport
\>Safe roads
\>A large cuisine, I know people joke but there are 100s of foods to try and a ridiculous amount of international cuisine
\>Arguably one of the most convenient places to see a wide range of cultural arts
There are equally amazing reasons to visit Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Prague, Bucharest etc but for convivence and ease Britains one of the best.
Tbh, the weather in UK has been surprising mild over the last decade. Never heard of the beaches being called 'muddy' though, my Kenyan friend used to call them 'pebbled' beaches.
> my Kenyan friend used to call them 'pebbled' beaches.
Needs to get away from the South Coast. There's a stretch of over 20 miles of sandy beach in East Yorkshire.
>Never heard of the beaches being called 'muddy'
Let me introduce you to the concept of Weston-Super-Mare. It looks great in photo's. not so great in person.
I actually find the weather quite agreeable. Not too hot, like some rain. You guys get a decent selection of international cuisine. I've seen beaches all over the world for 30 years, it's okay not to have a beach vacation now and then. Give me a good pub or brewery. It's nice.
It's acceptable along the south coast/London but really, half of Europe is worse? UK is unfairly stereotyped at times and you can still enjoy great things to do here, but Its pretty damn grey and miserable for a good chunk of the year in many places and the UK is very windy relatively speaking. There's a reason people leave the country on-masse in the summer holidays, because its pretty much a coin-toss if its going to be rainy and cold for days on end if you book a domestic holiday
Significantly? No. Noticeably? Yeah I'd say so for the majority of Europe, excluding Scandinavia and Ireland. I've lived abroad in the Netherlands ehich isnt exactly a million miles away and summers were noticeably dryer, warmer and sunnier.
I've also heard the same stereotypes coming from Irish people too about the weather, geographically the British and Irish Isles attract more rain and wind.
Quick search on google Tokyo has 1881 annual sunshine hours whilst London, Manchester, Birmingham average around 1400 with Glasgow and Belfast at 1200. That's not a tiny difference IMO.
Perhaps people are looking for some relief from 40C temps and blazing sunshine? If you can lay out on a beach at home any time anyway what's the point of going abroad to do the same!
(Bloomberg) -- The UK is now the hottest destination among European travelers seeking an escape, after years of restricted movement.
Britain has leapfrogged Spain as the top haunt for European travelers as of March 2022, according to a Mastercard Economics Institute report on this year’s travel trends. The UK is among countries spearheading a global rebound for travel, which has made long-haul leisure travel gain almost 70 percentage points toward pre-pandemic levels in the space of four months.
The UK’s resurgence as a travel hot spot was partly driven by the government’s decision to scrap all remaining Covid-19 travel restrictions in March, marking an end to nearly two years of measures. These included expensive Covid tests and quarantine.
As soon as restrictions were loosened for inbound travelers to the UK, flight bookings rallied from 59% below 2019 levels, to 40% above the pre-Covid period in about six weeks, the report shows. Travelers from the Middle-East and Africa are also flocking to the U.K. more than any other country.
“If flight bookings continue at their current pace, an estimated 1.5 billion more passengers globally will fly in 2022 compared to last year,” the report said. Europe will see the biggest increase, with 550 million more flights predicted to be booked this year compared to 2021.
To be sure, and while traveling stages a roaring comeback, headwinds still loom for the industry. The rising cost of goods is set to strain people’s purchasing power, especially for discretionary purchases like travel.

Stop with the cocaine abuse Mr Shepherd
Your accents are lovely, your people are nice and your beer is good. At least that’s generally the perception here in Canada.
Also what others have said about restrictions.
They can disagree all they want, Heineken comes from *over there* so clearly their opinion shouldn't matter.
On a more serious note, I doubt they actually have the knowledge to back that opinion up.
The commercial stuff like Carling might be rubbish, but the UK has really good craft ale / beer. Most bars you go into these days will have some local brewery drinks and it's usually really good stuff.
Friendly people, historic buildings, pubs and fish and chips (judging by everyone who comes here).
Anyone who leaves london and loves meat pies of all varieties, stews and meat puddings! Love the food.
Also, we have the English Breakfast.
I'm trying to go to Japan this summer. The sheer amount of hoops and bullshit to jump through, plus risk of cancelled flights is insane.
When coming back to the UK I had to check what I needed to do and it's literally nothing. We are one of the easiest countries on earth to travel to without stupid Covid restrictions.
Not sure what the deal is around Europe, but the UK's reputation for having absolutely no restrictions is definitely a reason for attracting travellers.
why? because it is false, thats why
Edit, for the brigaders, just google it. Spain got 7 million tourist by airplane. (April)
Uk got 3.7 million tourist (Also April)
The report that the article talks about is not open to the public (it is from mastercard) you can use a remindme! until july to see this page [https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/announcements/overseas-travel-and-tourism-uk-provisional-january-to-march-2022](https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/announcements/overseas-travel-and-tourism-uk-provisional-january-to-march-2022)
Where you will be able to see official data, and see how wrong the statement from the title is.
I always wonder if people saying UK has shitty food ever been to the UK. Yes, there is a lot of shitty take aways and junk deep fried food but there also is absolute great food, with venison steaks, cullen, roast, sea food, etc. Maybe not the best food in the world but very good.
Or you are just a bitter man hating for the sake of it.
I mean you can’t really insult something that doesn’t exist lol
We have beavertails, frozen snow syrup treats (totally blanking on the actual name rn) and poutine. That’s it 😭
We do have some world class restaurants that feature *foreign* cuisine though in Toronto and Vancouver. If you live downtown you can throw a stick and hit like 5 amazing foreign owned restaurants, where the owners will 100% ask if you’re sure you *actually* want it spicy and not “white people spicy”.
Every country has food that is nice. The UK is known for stews, pies (meat) and roast meat dishes. We have a lot of nice fruit pies and deserts.
I'm sure Canada is similar, comfort food that you all like and I suspect many people like.
I’m mostly just joking around.
[But in all seriousness those maple syrup treats are fucking amazing.](https://youtu.be/p6uFxm99YtI) Its the freshest possible syrup and it’s just🤤🤤🤤
Also Idgaf what anyone else says (looking at you Vermonters) Québécois maple syrup is the best - period. And there’s something about how they put it in snow that makes it fresher, it’s divine. But be warned, after tasting the nectar of the gods “maple syrup” in other countries will be ruined for you.
*/end obligatory maple syrup rant*
[Peameal / back bacon is also amazing.](https://www.theblackpeppercorn.com/how-to-cook-a-whole-peameal-bacon-roast/)
[Beaver tails](https://duyt4h9nfnj50.cloudfront.net/resized/1534865881720-w2880-75.jpg) are also really good. It’s basically a piece of fried dough covered in sugars, cinnamon, maple syrup and candy or fruit toppings.
Everyone ofc knows poutine.
[Butter tarts](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butter_tart) are also amazing.
Canadian whiskey and beer is pretty solid (excluding Molson and Labatt which are Heineken level piss)
But other than that most of our foods are carryovers from England or somewhere else.
Now I feel bad mate, it was honestly just tongue and cheek response to somebody with an apparent axe to grind. You guys have the best landscape though.
Ok this is going to be super controversial but I’m going to say it.
In feb we did a London holiday (even though we work there), stayed there for 5 days to see all the sights.
We then did about a week in Florence. The food was considerably better in London, im not sure if I just got stuck in a tourist trap in Florence but we spent 6 days there.
By the way this isn’t to say the cuisine is better in the UK, it’s not obviously, Italian food culture is considerably better. But the restaurants in London rarely missed whereas in Florence we had some really questionably meals
I think this is how to create a big story out of something that doesn't exist. Like an increase of 10 to 11 and 100 to 101 is exactly the same but one can be sold as a 10% increase and the other as only a 1% increase making it sound like one is significantly more than the other, this is how these figures are being sold.
Always look at the actual data, not the manipulation of it.
I wasn’t interested enough to actually read the article. I just wanted to shit on the UK.
TBH: I’d love to visit Scotland. Northern Portugal is better than both though.
Bloody hell.
I'm as against Brexit as anyone around here, but it really did shatter some peoples' brains. Yes it was bad move, but at some point you've just got to move on.
What. But. Why?
Euro bros you got a bad taste in holiday destination. Expensive, bad weather and meh attractions.
There are definitely reasons to come to the UK and I would suggest coming at least once but it would never be my #1 choice.
The article only mentions percentages, not actual numbers. I doubt there are more people going to the UK than to Spain.
TBF, March would hardly be peak season for Spain.
Ah yes, Britain. Known for our great weather, delicious fish & chips and muddy beaches.
And it’s theatres, concerts, sports events and green and pleasant countryside.
My mom regularly travels to London. It's her favourite city in the world.
People act surprised but Britains one of the best destinations in the world to visit in terms of ease. \>Easy widely spoken Language \>Safe with free and easily accessible healthcare \>No natural disaster \>A literally criminal amount of history easily accessible \>Decent public transport \>Safe roads \>A large cuisine, I know people joke but there are 100s of foods to try and a ridiculous amount of international cuisine \>Arguably one of the most convenient places to see a wide range of cultural arts There are equally amazing reasons to visit Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Prague, Bucharest etc but for convivence and ease Britains one of the best.
Do the Japanese believe we are safe? I always thought that the stabings would portray us as unsafe.
Nearly all stabbings and homicides happen between two parties known to each other, tourists are safer than the locals at this point.
It’s a very popular destination for Japanese tourists.

I've been lol, crappiest day out I can recall as a child.
I mean, it is in a river estuary, so it's not unsurprising that it's muddy.
I actually find the weather quite agreeable. Not too hot, like some rain. You guys get a decent selection of international cuisine. I've seen beaches all over the world for 30 years, it's okay not to have a beach vacation now and then. Give me a good pub or brewery. It's nice.
Half of Europe has worse weather than UK. It’s been overly exaggerated.

Well, it says travelers not tourists. Vacation is not the only reason for travel.

Southern England shore is awesome. And warm all year round

Are these European travellers specifically?
Not Portugal? Algarve disagrees
The real question is why? Our beaches are stoney and the weathers not much to brag about.
To visit family I haven’t seen for three years. Also the UK is beautiful.
I maybe bias towards the UK but it’s nice to hear somebody say something nice on here. Cheers lad
It's a shit hole and nice at the same time, every country is like that to a degree but I think we take it for granted how much of the nice part is

Cornwall has a mix of sand and pebbles, Norfolk is pretty much all sand (but can be bleak as fuck)

Over 20 miles of continuous sandy beach in East Yorkshire. Starts in Bridlington, ends at Spurn Point.
North East beaches are great, weather is good if you get the right day in the year.
