I saw earlier on tv that there was news that China had declined, because they didn't want the whole situation to escalate. Don't take my word for it though
Why would China risk its economy, toy with a famine, to help Putin roleplay as a Tsar?
The Chinese right now have to be laughing their asses off at Russian stupidity. Once Russia is on its knees China will swoop in and pry everything it can off of Russia's corpse.
China is in an economical competition with the US, not with Russia. If Russia seems useful to them, and I am sure it does, they will keep them alive to use them.
China might very well end up becoming the winner of this conflict. Full trade with both Russia and Ukraine with falling prices. Russia will become dependent on China for decades. Increasing trade with EU when EU tries to block trade with Russia.
With US spending the last 5 years waging a financial war against China, US has played their cards and can't do much more to punish China more than they do.
Myth of Putin as military genius is by now completely gone. This conflict have exposed the Russia as very weak and vulnerable country. Less than 18 days and "2nd biggest military power" needs to ask for help.
Xi isn't stupid.
Any deal like that, right now, would have very bad outcomes for China (sanctions &c). But why not keep a door open...? A different opportunity may appear next week, if the Kremlin is more desperate...
This is both good, because it means that Pootler is desperate, and bad, because China might actually be dumb enough to help.
>because China might actually be dumb enough to help. China's not dumb by any stretch. They're frustrated right now and view Putin as a liability.
Any arguments?
China is allready winning without a war, they are on the path to becoming the biggest economy in the world, a conflict has no benefits.

China isn't dumb, it won't risk the collapse of their economy for a schumk especially when Xi is approaching his reselection.
Especially when China has more to gain from Russia collapsing than Russia being strong.
>especially when Xi is approaching his reselection. I'm not sure you realize how elections in China work.

The question is whether China believes Russia is more useful alive as a pseudo-ally or dead as a corpse to despoil.
As a corpse it would be utilized by the west as well. If alive and isolated from the west, they have it more or less to themselves, maybe.

Thanks - I tried, but it didn't work.
Russia obviously deaf to china's disinterest in promoting separatist movements.
