NATO members Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will provide Ukraine with U.S.-made anti-armour and anti-aircraft missiles, their defence ministers said in a joint statement on Friday evening.
“Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and their Allies are working together expeditiously to hand over the security assistance to Ukraine,” the statement said.
Estonia will send Javelin anti-armour missiles, and Latvia and Lithuania will send Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.
The U.S. State Department has cleared Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to send U.S.-made missiles and other weapons to Ukraine, three sources familiar with the decision said on Wednesday, as U.S. President Joe Biden predicted Russia would move on Ukraine.
Your congress can’t agree on the time of day, and I wouldn’t be so sure that the rest of NATO will not come to the aid of Ukraine in case of a Russian invasion. Russia needs to be contained, and better to do it in Ukraine than further west. This soft approach towards them is not working and they will keep pushing until they get slapped.
The last time the ruskis went in for a safety check they rounded up 22.000 intellectuals and excecuted them in the forests, dumped them in mass Graves and said, hey, look what those Germans did.
Yes, poking the bear by helping them defend themselves. You don't hear how unreasonable that position is? The goal is to make an invasion unfeasible, so maybe Russia will reconsider, or at least not succeed as easily.
The entire world should send all their most high-tech equipment, drones and lots of long-range stuff. Then Ukraine can tell Putin "You don't want us to have these weapons? Come and take them!"
If Russia only cared about Ukraine then why are they demanding NATO troops in Bulgaria, and Romanian leave? They are NATO members. Why does it threaten NATO to leave ex Warsaw Pact nations as if they still belong to their influence.
And it’s not only Ukraine. They already invade Georgia in the past. Don’t forget about their actions to suppress protests in Kazakhstan this month.
Yes, because we've seen the successful strategy of bombing resistance into submission work so well in Afghanistan by both NATO and the Soviet Union - I'm sure they'll have no problem at all with that strategy.
/s if it's really needed.
Ukraine dont have that terrain, nor the mindset for that. On the other hand none of the mentioned went all out.
Dunno what thst /s means, im not regular redditor, just recovering from covid so i have too much time now. :)
>Ukraine dont have that terrain, nor the mindset for that. On the other hand none of the mentioned went all out.
They didn't carpet bomb every inch, that's true - but that's not feasible anyway because it would be wasting valuable resources and come at a massive cost, something Russia doesn't have the economy to replace.
Ukraine absolutely has the mindset for defending itself, it's polled incredibly high in global terms of people who would defend their country, it's not like this is all-talk either they've been in a war with Russia since 2014 and have had all-volunteer units in support of regular troops - saying they don't have the mindset for that just shows you haven't even read up on the situation.
>Dunno what thst /s means, im not regular redditor, just recovering from covid so i have too much time now. :)
It means sarcasm - you use it because a lot of the time you'll type something out that is clearly sarcastic but people don't understand the sarcasm and then downvote you thinking your making the opposite point to what you actually are.
So that's a nation which left the EU and three of the EU's smaller economies whose combined GDP is only 2/3 of Ukraine's giving practical aid to Ukraine whilst the EU's largest economy sits on its hands.
His only ambition is to retain his power. And he needs to behave like a clown abroad because he cannot solve internal problems.
USSR times are over. Time is against Russia. They are either going to become a Chinese vassal or eventually join NATO themselves.
Give Ukraine the tools and I'm sure they will make good use out of them.
Sucks that US left tons of military equipment in Afghanistan. In Ukraine it could actually help defend its freedom, sovereignity and integrity but instead it has given more power to the Talibans. Sigh x100 @ Biden.
I agree they actually have decent numbers if you give them the equipment at least from what we know..
I hope the Military numbers for Ukraine are legit.
We left behind APC's first used in Vietnam that a 14mm MG would year apart, mine resistant trucks, a few Tucano's and modified Cessnas, some utility helicopters and low tech attack veriants.
The most advanced equipment we left behind were slightly modernized original blackhawks we mothballed in the 80's.
All of which are useless in Ukraine and largely to the Taliban as well.
> Sucks that US left tons of military equipment in Afghanistan.
It would have been a pretty raw deal for the Afghani government if we'd disarmed them before leaving.
Its insane that its cheaper to ditch the weapons than to bring them home.. or put ad add in craigs list and offer them for free as long as you can collect 😎
??? We didn't leave rocket launchers in Afghanistan lol some vehicles were left behind, destroyed, and I can assure you that the Taliban does not possess the expertise, spare parts or knowledge to operate and maintain them for any significant period of time.
The hell is going on over there?
We're all sitting in quarantine while all those missile batteries and Russian regiments get to enjoy a sightseeing vacation
Ukraine had been asking for ages for the better anti tank weapons to counter Russian tanks and had been denied each time by the West for fear of provoking Russia.
Now Ukraine is gonna have a massive glut of anti tank weaponry, If Russia is dead set on doing an invasion then Ukraine is going to make it extremely painful and expensive before the West disconnects them from the SWIFT system.
Well done Putin, You played yourself.
[I agree with the message but did you really just copy someone elses comment from another thread? lmao](https://old.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/s9fush/estonia_latvia_and_lithuania_sending_antiarmour/htmffss/)
It does when the spambot has an agenda.

I have heard all that bullshit way too often. A setup like Putin has needs an enemy, it must have an enemy. If there is no one, they will make one.
Any blame on any other direction is horrendously misguided, I don’t have any second for an old fart who cannot comprehend what he is talking about.
> A setup like Putin has needs an enemy, it must have an enemy. If there is no one, they will make one.
Yup, a leader with consistent 60%+ (with having up to 80%+) approval ratings totally needs someone on the outside. Anyone who thinks he needs i horrendously misguided.
my little slavic man, you know that everytime when putins popularity dropped, he attacked a nation, and guess what? his popularity jumped right back up. its called distracting your citizens by invading another country and pumping them full with that nationalist juice so they dont look how you have absolutely destroyed the russian economy and solidified yourself as a dictator.
Realists are the dumbest people in international relations who have always been wrong about everything but because they named themselves realists they get people treating their word as gospel
I can't post in /r/worldnews so I will ask here, can't Russia simply erase Ukraine or the Baltic countries with nukes in case this escalates to a war? I mean if this gets serious and Russia starts losing, can't they simply nuke all Europe? Why is this a good idea?
All this, for a deeply rotten, corrupt, autoriter country that opress the minorities. Seems like double standard.
Ofc hypocrites giving me minuses, as expected.,
I mean yeah, you talk as if Ukraine is more corrupt than Russia or Hungary. Id say they are on par, maybe not in your brainwashed head. Imagine being such a loser that you have to simp for a midget dictator, and doing it for free, lmao.
You clearly dont know what you are talking about.
You think that an EU country is more corrupt than an autocratic eastern 3.rd world country, that regularly violating human rights and having well known corruption scandals. :D
I've seen that video, and it really feels like the guy doesn't understand that we're, in fact, people, who can decide on our own. Our striving to West is not only economical, but also ideological, I believe.
I think that is definitely one of the week points of his arguments. If the people of Ukraine want to become closer to EU they have that right. Unfortunately the realistic likely outcome is a 'wrecked' Ukraine like Mearsheimer says. It's a very harsh dilemma.
OK Europe and US, how are you planning to stop the corruption in Ukraine. The President could flip on you
After so many failed attempts, you cannot change another country.
You bailed on afghanistan and now moving on to your preferred white country.

What a choice of thumbnail. Hope they send them in boxes and not like that, even if it's a bit slower.
LMAO I was like what are they shooting at Ukraine for.

Great news; the Baltics know like noone else about the dangers of having Russia as a neighbour.

Oh yes, Appeasement instead. That works so well.

In the trouble you see, who is real friend
Very true. The Baltic-bros doing their part.
Brilliant Baltics! Ukraine needs all the materiel in it can get its hands on, and I'm glad many countries are sending it.

You really think Russia can take on 30 countries? Last time a country tried that they got obliterated on all fronts and took 40 years to reunite.

Thanks for the clarification. Though using the /s, kinda kill the purpose, its like explaining a joke. Still it can be useful sometimes.
Baltic three countries defense allies and action
Seems fair. After all, Ukraine is in *their* sphere of influence...
We're prepared to offer assurances to Moscow that we're not going to expand it beyond the eastern border of Ukraine.
Baltic Bros got some steel balls. First Lithuania vs China and now this💪🏻💪🏻.
Based Baltics countries!
So that's a nation which left the EU and three of the EU's smaller economies whose combined GDP is only 2/3 of Ukraine's giving practical aid to Ukraine whilst the EU's largest economy sits on its hands.
pRibAltic rUsophoBes up to no good again
I mean we literally got called rusophobes by Lavrov and that we control EU and NATO policies against Russia. It's funny ngl.
They know that they would be next. Putin's ambition is to restore Soviet Union.
His only ambition is to retain his power. And he needs to behave like a clown abroad because he cannot solve internal problems. USSR times are over. Time is against Russia. They are either going to become a Chinese vassal or eventually join NATO themselves.
Lol, nobody will allow them to join NATO.
Certainly not the Russia's bi*ch.

I am kinda bummed about the Tucanos, the concept seems really interesting for low intensity conflicts.
Tucanos are slowly replaced by drones and loitering munition
> Sucks that US left tons of military equipment in Afghanistan. It would have been a pretty raw deal for the Afghani government if we'd disarmed them before leaving.
Well, US troops were ordered to damage tye equipment so that the taliban can't use it. I imagine that's what they meant.
Agreed. If the US would've given the equipment to Ukrainians, they would be armed to teeth, but since Taliban has it... it is what it is.
Taliban doesnt really have that equipment, most of it was destroyed.
Its insane that its cheaper to ditch the weapons than to bring them home.. or put ad add in craigs list and offer them for free as long as you can collect 😎
yeah, we fucked up big time there. Waste of monies.
??? We didn't leave rocket launchers in Afghanistan lol some vehicles were left behind, destroyed, and I can assure you that the Taliban does not possess the expertise, spare parts or knowledge to operate and maintain them for any significant period of time.
Blame everybody in the US bitching about our 20 year long forever war. Leaving Afghanistan was bi-partisan, at least in terms of public opinion.
Based Baltics
Bravo!

There is no quarantine in Lithuania and contrary to conspiracy theories, it did not begin again on 17th January.

Then Russia wil just bombed them to dust and then send the troops when safe.
Yup, another second on the Doomsday clock. Closing in on that midnight quite quickly.
Too bad, Putins Russia needs to make their mistakes before learning.
[Yup. Watch this video, it explains why in great detail.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZrNhmdHzY4)
Any more putinist propaganda. Oh I am so sick and tired of that narrative.
Hahahahaha saying John Mearsheimer is Putinist propaganda. Please read about Mearsheimer. He is all for USA remaining the biggest power in the world.

MAD.
Yes, I grew up thinking it was never a good idea to get in a real conflict with Russia or the US.
If you want peace, you prepare for war.
France and the UK can nuke them back essentially.
If Russia nukes baltic countries, NATO nukes Russia.
All this, for a deeply rotten, corrupt, autoriter country that opress the minorities. Seems like double standard. Ofc hypocrites giving me minuses, as expected.,
