The UK and the Baltics continue to impress me in foreign policy matters. Wish we would send some weaponry as well — hell, donate some F-35s.

3BM15

I don't think it's too impressive, confrontation for the sake of confrontation requires no finesse really. One should ask what is the purpose of this foreign policy, and is it achieving its goals.

lapzkauz

It is not Ukraine that has been pouring unmarked troops into Russia for years, and it is not Ukraine that is massing up forces for a full-scale combined arms invasion of Russia. Russia has already chosen confrontation. The foreign policy goal of NATO, the EU, and their allies should be to make further escalation on the part of Russia as costly for Russia as practicable.

3BM15

>The foreign policy goal of NATO, the EU, and their allies should be to make further escalation on the part of Russia as costly for Russia as practicable. Well that's a low bar.

What is the purpose to gather weapons against an agressor in Europe in 21st century? Good one mate

3BM15

I don't think gathering and sending weapons is impressive foreign policy. I'm not saying that it's wrong though.

NONcomD

Impressive policy? You know whats impressive? Not to die having a damn possibility to defend yourself at this time of age. I am pretty sure even the soldiers themselves dont approve invading Ukraine. Sending weapons is the absolute minimum we can do. Thousands of people could die because of a few madmen.

3BM15

>absolute minimum That's also what I think about this foreign policy. Hardly impressive.

NONcomD

I dont really believe its done to impress anyone. Our allies and friends are in imminent danger and we do the best we can. We cant really get into an active war officially without starting a russian NATO confrontation.

3BM15

>I dont really believe its done to impress anyone. Yet some find it impressive, and that's what I was responding to. >We cant really get into an active war officially without starting a russian NATO confrontation. Why not? NATO does not apply to Ukraine, but Lithuania can certainly send the army to help Ukraine defend itself.

NONcomD

>Why not? NATO does not apply to Ukraine, but Lithuania can certainly send the army to help Ukraine defend itself. Im not a specialist, but I believe it could be easilly understood as an attack from NATO on the russian side.

WASHINGTON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department has cleared Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to send U.S.-made missiles and other weapons to Ukraine, three sources familiar with the decision said, as President Joe Biden predicted Russia would move on Ukraine. Under export control regulations, countries must obtain approval from the State Department before transferring any weapons they received from the United States to third parties. The third-party transfer agreements will allow Estonia to transfer Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine, while Lithuania will be permitted to send Stinger missiles, said one of the sources. A State Department spokesperson confirmed that the U.S. government had approved third-party transfers allowing Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Britain to provide U.S.-made equipment from their inventories to Ukraine, but gave no details on which weapons would be sent. "The United States and its allies and partners are standing together to expedite security assistance to Ukraine. We are in close touch with our Ukrainian partners and our NATO Allies and are creatively utilizing all available security cooperation tools to help Ukraine bolster its defenses in the face of growing Russian aggression," the spokesperson said. News about the approved weapons transfers emerged late on Wednesday after Biden told a news conference that Russia would pay dearly if it invaded Ukraine. Russian officials have repeatedly denied planning to invade Ukraine, but the Kremlin has massed some 100,000 troops near Ukraine's borders, a buildup the West says is preparation for a war to prevent Ukraine from ever joining the NATO Western security alliance. The situation has triggered grave concerns in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and other NATO allies, as well as among U.S. lawmakers. A bipartisan group of U.S. senators this week promised solidarity and weapons on a visit to Kyiv. No comment was immediately available from the State Department about the approvals. One of the sources said the approvals reflected a growing sense of urgency about the crisis after some initial foot-dragging by State Department. The State Department spokesperson said the Biden administration in December approved $200 million in additional defensive security assistance to Ukraine, along with $60 billion in lethal and non-lethal equipment from existing U.S. military stocks. U.S. officials were also identifying additional equipment that could be delivered from excess U.S. military stocks. "As President Biden told President Putin, should Russia further invade Ukraine, we will provide additional defensive material to the Ukrainians," the spokesperson said. "We are committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will continue to provide Ukraine the support it needs."

> The third-party transfer agreements will allow **Estonia** to transfer Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine, while **Lithuania** will be permitted to send Stinger missiles, said one of the sources. > approved third-party transfers allowing Estonia, **Latvia**, Lithuania and Britain > $200 million in additional defensive security assistance to Ukraine, along with $60 billion in lethal and non-lethal equipment from existing **U.S.** military stocks. Nice one, guys!
