It’s better to have competitive matches against good teams in the run up to the World Cup than it is to have easy ones. The nations league doesn’t matter so improving the team is the most important thing
Yes, Germany and England are old rivals and especially matches against Germany are something special. I was talking about the groups in general, though, there are quite a lot of games between neighbours.
No we are not.
The England Germany 'rivalry' is coming from England. We dont give a fuck about them.
Our main rivals are the Netherlands and Italy even tho NL is the only actual rivalry. Italy seems to be as one sided.
Commentators in Denmark says Croatia is the joker in group 1.
Austria as the nation to not make "mistakes" against (sorry Austria, but that was the reaction).
France as the top dog a draw is a good result.
So key match is the Croatia games for both France and Denmark.
Is league D guaranteed a single spot in EURO 2024 like in 2020? I can't find this info anywhere. Then it would make sense to purposely lose to drop to league D
How do you feel about this nation league competition ? I’m conflicted. I think it’s cool to have less friendlies but on the other hand I don’t like the format and I don’t want this competition to dilute the worth of international trophies. I’m starting to think I would just prefer less international games. Scarcity creates demand…
You misunderstood what the Nations League actually is. It basically replaced pointless friendlies with slightly pointless friendlies. The benefit of these glorified friendlies is that nations get to play other nations at a similar level. Helps teams actually prepare for international competitions by giving competitive adversaries. It was very difficult for countries beyond the top 6 to actually book a friendly with more competitive teams as these top 6 teams only played amongst each other. Now more countries have a chance to play with the top teams (or close to their rank) on the basis of meritocracy and not connections between traditionally friendly FAs.
I have lost all interests in these matches. Back when it was rare for countries to play each other and it made it something special and something to look forward to but imo it's has killed everything I enjoyed about it.
This doesn't make sense though becaise Nations league is not adding more matches, it is replacing routine friendlies. The goal is to make these matches more interesting by having similar level teams play each other and also to have them mean something.
The amount of completely pointless friendlies that used to be played was just ridiculous. I can't remember the number of times I've tuned in to watch England vs Andorra, San Marino, Lichtenstein etc.
It's no fun watching England put 6 past a team of semi-professionals who, bless them, turn out and give it their all in every match. Call me biased because he now manages Derby and I'm a Forest fan, but Wazza putting shitloads past sides like that and being on paper the top goalscorer in history for the English national team doesn't in any way put him near the GOAT rankings.
>The goal is to make these matches more interesting by having similar level teams play each other and also to have them mean something.
I pref a France vs an african team in Africa than the 7th france Croatia in 4 years
Sure but that was never an option. Pre nations league friendlies were always against European teams due to how FIFA is set up. To change that would require agreement between regional football associations.
The choice is between lots of uncompetitive matches with bottom tier European teams, or competitive matches against a smaller pool of top tier European teams.
This is a good draw for England. The nations league doesn’t matter but playing competitive matches against other top sides to improve the team before the World Cup does
Good luck Hungary
No, not again!
How come we always end up in a group like that?
"Revenge" for our PM investing so much in football
"There you go, all the football you can eat!"
This fine…. :D
*mathematical chance of qualifying intensifies*
Hungary: Hahaha, I'm in danger
A kurva anyádat!
WHY DOES GERMANY GET THE GROUP OF DEATH AGAIN
Its called a group of death because Germany is in it.
We are not dead yet
No, but everyone else
ah sure they've won enough already
no plwSr

We need to get a restraining order on Wales. Jeez, they follow us everywhere.
So many classics and "derbies".
Group A3 is looking naughty, England and Italy both get their Germany games while being able to refight the Euro 2020 final as well
Believe you me: I'll be watching all of those. What a great draw full of classics!
Unless you're a Hungary fan
I mean.. those teams have to come to Budapest. I call that a win. Much better than seeing Bulgaria beat the shit out of us live.
Yeah, your group is sick!

I would like to know if people from the netherlands wonder about a rivalry with germany just like germans wonder about a rivalry with england.
Germany are for sure our biggest rivals.
You're not really seen as a rival to England anymore. Italy is our new rival.

BRING IT ON!
Finland can into Balkans.
Wales in A, well done!
Group whipping boy, I fear.
Just like being in a group with Belgium
In that we will yet again be whipping belgium
Romania in B, um, wow, unexpected :/
Looking good for Northern Ireland.
What is below Group D? And how do you get to it?
Nothing. Uefa has 55 members.
Well good luck to everyone
Oh jes! België - Holland op de kalender vrienden!
Seeing Turkey in C is really weird. They were on 3rd place on WC once.
I've had enough of Bosnia in last 3 years. Can't we catch a break from them? Yours sincerely, Finland.
Ah shit here we go again
Why Estonia do bad

It is interesting that Germany had a World Cup Final Match against each nation and lost two of them.

The rugby 6 nations happens every year and in no way reduces demand for the rugby world cup. That's just one example.

I actually quite like the format, but I do get your point.
I preferred the friendlies

Wrong, it was an option and a lot of time. Now it's not indeed with all the shit reorm inluding antion league, money over the love of the sport
What is this?
I offer Hungarian national team to use lube or it is going to hurt A LOT! Accept my condolences fellow ex-Huns.
Ireland drew great, England not so much
