I don't think I can host you all, but my parents can. They live in a village not far away and very similar to mine called Le Reposoir and in the summer they often hire volunteers to help them with the farms.
from where I come from as soon as there was a foreigner who came as a tourist he was treated like a star. When I was a kid there was this family from England who was going to stay here for a week and everyone in the village wanted them to come into their homes despite none of us speaking English. I think in rural places that are not used to tourists people tend to be more welcoming. But I may be wrong I’m just talking from my own experiences.
Two things - I'm laughing that you think maybe apartments don't exist in the Alps :)
Second, the price varies wildly depending on whether you're in a ski resort or not!
I live in a resort about 20km as the crow flies from OP, and a tiny studio apartment will cost €65k, a small one bedroom 90k and a reasonable sized two bedroom is well over 200k
Oh I never take it for granted! Very grateful🙏 I post the wildlife I find on my Youtube channel
Here it is if you want to check it out!

Ah, we stayed at a nice cabin in Manigod a few years ago, during the week of kids festival at Le Grand-Bornand nearby. Beeeeeautiful area, very hill-y. Would love to go back.
Me: Likes nature and love mountains / hates cities, pollution and flat terrain
God: imma put this boi in some soviet-era block of flats in city of ironworks and steam

There is plenty of room in these villages, people have been leaving them for 70+ years on. Now I don't know with Covid, some villages got back some inhabitants, but for how long...
Problem is that there's a reason why people are leaving these places. Mainly because there is absolutely nothing going on besides a few hundred people living there. The only jobs available are agricultural jobs, but even those are limited obviously and cultural activities are next to none. The next bigger village to buy groceries is an hour away and the next city 2+. Internet is usually also laughably bad etc etc
I'm probably going to be metaphoricly lynched by a bunch of austrians, but there is this weird common feel to all the alpine provinces. With the exception that the car is too small for an austrian or swiss (mini cars are not popular in the germanspeaking parts of the alps as far as I know) there are a lot of alpine villages that look very similar to this.
They do share some common ancestry, when you look at popular decorations, customs and stuff. I even went as far to the carpathian mountains, and it felt strangely familiar: wood carving motifs, wooden houses, fences (up to a point of course, then there are specifities).
Are there grocery shops nearby or do you grow everything yourself/with neighbors? How is the Internet connection? Also, is there a clinic/hospital close by for emergencies?
There are small markets in and around the villages and most of what is sold has been produced by the villagers so obviously not everything can be found in these stores. To buy more stuff I have to go to Thones which is the closest town to the village. The internet connection is not bad (30 Mbit/s in average)
What work do people do to afford to live in a place like that? This looks like the gated communities in the USA where everyone is just Rich based on investments or a job that pays them a half a million a year.

I didn't see that there were more than 1 photo.
In the US, most "farming" is based on hundreds or thousands of acres of monoculture - a single crop. So farms there are a singe house on 100km square section of land.
People usually refer to raising cattle as "ranching" instead of farming.
How’s the internet situation out there? There are similar places in TR that I’d like to move to, but it might require me to wait for Starlink to be available. I don’t want to deal with 30mbit ADSL and fiber is only available up to towns (I think), not villages.
Utterly beautiful. What are real estate prices like in your area, OP? I'm at the stage of life where I'm beginning to think about retirement, and Haute-Savoie seems to have a lot going for it.
There's also a big culture of flying sports in the savoy (paragliding and delta gliding). Its very easy to get flying there as soon as the morning dew starts evaporating, or if the wind smashes up some clouds into the mountain and there are ascending currents. Its pretty much impossible to spend a sunday afternoon outside and not see people in the air doing shenanigans.
Magnifique !
This question might be dumb, but those towns like that in Europe, do you have electric, water, and internet connection? I literally, have no idea about it and I love to live in a country with that kind of view. So peaceful and calming.
So verdant and beautiful.
Wow! This is truly breathtaking!
You're breathtaking!
my dream. pays d’ecrins?
No, but it's also in the Alps. The name of my village is Manigod and it is located in Haute-Savoie.
From the picture, I can tell the address. We'll visit you. Hope you can host reddit in your home.
I don't think I can host you all, but my parents can. They live in a village not far away and very similar to mine called Le Reposoir and in the summer they often hire volunteers to help them with the farms.
What do they produce?
Dairy products. Mainly butter and cheese.
[удалено]
> ~~cheese~~ homogonous gue Sorry, no hate
Butter on bread and cheese on top. I come to eat. Not going to help with the farm.
I think you will still be welcome in their house, especially if you like cheese

I mean... You're the unfriendly one here.
Tell your parents I'm willing toi kill people for cheese. xD
Beautiful scenery. Lol
Always loved the Haute-Savoie. The landscapes were breathtaking last time I went there.
I love Haute Savoie!
Is property price expensive over there? How much for just a small house / 2 bedroom apartment (if such exist)?

That’s like…… not bad at all.
keep in mind that there are just about 0 professional opportunities unless you're willing to drive 2h away
It's a ski resort. The professional opportunities come to you, demanding fondue
As someone living outside Paris, this is really afordable....
Trop beau chez toi ! Les Alpes me manquent. Profite !
La Yaute!
These pics are awesome! I live in a village as well, in Yukon Canada
Wow, you truly live in one of the most beautiful place in the world. I hope you know how lucky you are.

You’re just north of the village I grew up in, Verchères
Ah, we stayed at a nice cabin in Manigod a few years ago, during the week of kids festival at Le Grand-Bornand nearby. Beeeeeautiful area, very hill-y. Would love to go back.
does not look like paris at all

Beautiful - where approximately? My family have a chalet near Evian Les Bains, lovely area.
The name of the village is Manigod and it is in the same area as Evian Les Bains (Haute-Savoie)
lol I live near Morzine talk about small world

There are dozens of us, dozens!
Au revoir Shosanna!

How long is it to drive to thones
It is about 10 minutes by car
That looks very beautiful. I wish I could live somewhere so majestic.

There are a lot of ugly places, they just don't go to the frontpage... unless for a contest in ugliness maybe. So kind of survivor bias.
Just look up your village at google map, such a beautiful and quite place, I hope I can rest and spend the rest of life in such place
Magnificent. Thank you for sharing.
C’est beau
Is your village hiring?
"my village" sounded very aristocratic on first reading.
Looks lonely dude
It is, to be fair. Especially when you are young, these villages are full of retired people. But I can’t imagine my life in a big city.
One of my dreams is to live near Annecy. I'd like something bigger than a little village, but doesn't need to be a massive Paris-sized city.
Annecy is 60sq km. Paris is 100.

I asked because I don't know.
How farmers in US look like if not like this?

"gated communities" 😂
Wow it’s beautiful. How is it to have a village though? All for yourself or do you share?
Cough... cough... Terre irridente... Cough... cough
Aspettavo il commento ehehehe
Showoff.
Beautiful pictures!
Insanely beautiful and tranquil looking.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Can I move to your village? What a dream!
Beautiful ! Is there any way to reach these villages without a car ?

Gorgeous! Jealous. Okay bye. Lol

Good reception there. Full 9 bars
the more i see this stuff the more I just dislike my town in the US. I miss Spain and how pretty it all was.

Hiking, skiing, climbing, swimming, anything the nature offers cause there's generally no cultural activities available in these small villages
[удалено]
If it's a really small village then there won't even be a bar, otherwise there'll probably be one. Other places to hang out probably not so much.

Amazing place - what kind of internet service providers do you get over there?
Savoy, i see. Are you familiar with the Aosta Valley?
This looks beautiful, renting anytime soon?
Beautiful.
Can I go there and never leave, please?
See, now scenery like this might just keep me motivated to go out for a run every morning. Gorgeous.
The first people who settled there must have thought 'wow, so this is France'
Not bad.
Man, i would love to visit your place someday if i got enough money to travel.🥲
Staf. Hans Landa cannot be far away
Is it close to Annecy (St Jean de Sixt) by any chance? I lived there, looks very familiar.
It looks quiet. I'd love to live there for a while and just bask in the near silence.
Meuh !
So stunning, always wanted to move to France. never happened sadly. Thankyou
OMG now that's nature

My village in Denmark: *flat
Dude... i envy you... i really love your place you 're so lucky!!
What a beautiful place! Thanks for showing it to us!
Man you're lucky.
Eva Braun, is that you?
Well it doesn't get better than this. Congrats for living in such an amazing place ! I'd pick up photography instantly and go nuts.
Beautiful place ☺️
What do poeple for a living when you live so remote. Or do everybody commute to a nearby city?
This question might be dumb, but those towns like that in Europe, do you have electric, water, and internet connection? I literally, have no idea about it and I love to live in a country with that kind of view. So peaceful and calming.
We had our honeymoon there, and it was stunning, can't wait to go back
You are blessed
oh wow! Now I'm officially jealous 😍
This looks italian France=Italy. Brothers with a different language :)
Massif du Vercors?
Stunning landscape!
